Gonta I'm legitimately surprised about but Kiibo makes sense. He doesn't have a standard, consistent spelling. K1B0,KIIBO,KEEBO are all pretty different so it'd be rather difficult to track honestly. If I had to guess I'd assume between Himiko and Tenko.
considering how much of kokichis development was shown with gontas sacrifice, im honestly surprised too. same with kiibo,,,like he was right in every trial and his character as a whole made the game a bit more interesting, especially after tsumugi told him he was basically the audiences poll results

if i’m being honest, the main reason why i like him so much is because he’s pretty 💀. and that’s how i think it is for a lot of people. i think his popularity stems from being attractive, getting shipped with loads of characters, and the mystery behind him.
Design? I think it might be because of the design. Ryoma is a very good character, he deserves better.

I'm not surprised about Gonta, actually. I've noticed him beeing unpolular quite a while ago. Most people like him when they play the game, (tho he gets a surprising amount of hate too) but forget about him later. Almost no fanart and cosplay of him.
The ao3 list (how many characters have fanfiction written about them) is similarish to this as well. Gonta is only slightly above Ryoma, and below Angie, Korekiyo and everyone else.
Kiibo is above Himiko btw, so yeah, it's the spelling!
Tl;dr: Gonta is less popular then you would think.
Atleast Ryoma has a few die-hard fans, I almost never see any for Gonta.

Monokuma’s at the top because he’s in all the games so people who only completed THH would have also looked him up as well with people who’ve completed V3.
I imagine the point of having Monokuma in here was to show how popular the v3 characters are in comparison, and it's pretty crazy how close Kokichi gets to him.
If you watch another video from this channel that compares all danganronpa characters, Shuichi and Monokuma are the only ones that made it on that list. But here, Kokichi is twice as popular as Shuichi. There's something fishy about these rankings.

I can't speak for Kiyo lovers but personally, because of his personality and background, I found him very, very interesting. He just had such potential! But then the 3rd class trial came and like.... stripped off his chances in a way that made people..... dislike him. Even after so, I still loved him, and I'm not saying that those who don't *SHOULD* because of his effed up background, but I just feel like.... a lot overlook what is likeable in his character because of *THAT* certain part.

I'm glad Kokichi is so high up cause he was easily the best written and most interesting character for me
It’s weird how the survivors and the MASTERMIND are so low down.
Having Kirumi being the killer was a mistake imo. Although the second trial revealed a whole lot about the dark aspects of her personality, it would've been good if she stayed. One of her biggest flaws imo is that she is actively suppressing all aspects of her personality that don't involve her serving others. Shuichi even tries to encourage her to be more independent in her FTE and it shows that she doesn't want that. It would've been great to see her develop more.
Honestly, Kirumi learning to show more her emotions would have been a great things. On the other hand, her execution is amazing, but she still died too early
She's a very boring character so it's only fair. You know, literally every character would have been better if only they got more character development.
