+Arthur Serino George Lucas didn't make the props, the art department did. The first Star Wars movie also had a very limited budget and wasn't expected to do well, so they used what they could find. These are a lot more inspired than the sabers they cast for the prequels.
Dude, very nice build. I remember when I put together my first graflex lightsaber (I opted for the anh varient cuz that's my favorite lightsaber design) it was so much fun putting it together, and the end product was so rewarding that I'm thinking of making mine like my family heirloom or something when I have children and pass on. Anyway I'm rambling, love the video and love the lightsaber build its very impressive
Man.. I put on this video and just watch it recreationally... I'm buying a copy myself these days, can't wait! Only wish I could build it like you. Mine is already done ;P
+Pyro Films I'm looking for the same one but only detail is that I'm french.. so we can say that I will never find such thing or deal.. don't even know if there are actually graflex in france lol. But if you see another deal like that call me :D
I’m planning to get an 89 Sabres Graflex online from Korbanth and I plan to set it up in ESB configuration, it along with an LS Hero “Lukes lightsaber from ROTJ” will be the crown jewels of my 38 lightsaber collection
I know you already have a lot of comments about this but 28 dollars is a steal and funny thing is I remember seeing 2 or 3 of these in an old antique store near my school but didn't recognize them. Damn!
You should totally send that away to get a sound install done on it. You got that thing for next to no price, and its a thousand dollar piece. You can very easily afford to send that off and get a custom sound install on it. Even if you dont intend on putting a blade in it ever, that would be the ultimate shelf queen if it was able to light up and make sounds.
It's amazing to me that the most iconic weapon in science fiction...was cobbled together out of junk from the set. The grips were winshield wiper blades.
Pyro Films It's actually gone up to about $1000 USD average for just a Graflex. That's not even including shipping. The raised price is because not only is it an old piece of technology which is no longer produced (and with some handy work like what you showed in this video, an authentic movie replica from Star Wars), the recent Star Wars films have increased the demand for them.
I dont know if it was just me but it seemed the video skipped over the button and d ring attachment segment. I was curious about how the second button went on never having been able to find a graflex in my area
Unfortunately most of that footage was shot on a memory card that got corrupted, the second button was a replica that I got. Mine had no threads to screw on so I had to glue it.
Beautiful saber. Just fyi if you care, i have heard that the one used in the movie had the beer tab removed. There was just a hole there. Dont know why it was removed but apparently it was. Just letting you know if you want to look into it to possibly make it more screen accurate? Beautiful though ( :
Only thing you didn't do was take off the beer tab like they did on the actual esb prop. I'm pretty sure you would have to sand it off though to do that anyway though. Other than that this is a sick looking graflex and it's even better that you didn't damage anything to make it!
Two things, need to remove the "beer tab" on the top button that keeps it free swinging when the button is unscrewed. Not on the movie version. Second, where did you get the mylar tape from and what size is needed for the correct movie accuracy?
I know the beer tab is supposed to come off, but I didn't want to damage any part of the graflex in case I want to eventually convert it to ANH version. I believe the Mylar tape was from custom saber shop.
28 bucks damn you are lucky you could have used rivets because where they filmed it in finse norway the glue that was used to fasten the grips to the Graflex handle was snapping off
The grips had sticky material, I used a grip guide I found online to find out where they should go. Be careful at this stage, mine went on a bit crooked.
Hi there, nice job with it! Just wondering what grips and d rings you used? Did you buy a kit or find parts separately. I'm also looking to covert without damaging the flash.
Several different places actually... I got the grips from the "custom saber shop", d-ring and chip at "wannawanga" and the extra screw on button you should try and find one with threads. I unfortunately got one that had no threads so I had to glue it on instead of being able to screw it in like a real graflex.
I put some tape on the back (just to make it a bit thicker) and it just slides into the slot. It's in there firmly, but can easily be removed for cleaning
I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your training is compete
*your skills are complete)
But you are not a Jedi yet.
@@peterbenjaminparker8572 First you must face Darth Vader
$28?! You sir are very VERY lucky!!
He could have re-sold it for *so* so much more lol
they are like $600-$900 on ebay
For real lol
It must has been very moving to be able to build such legendary saber. I'd have cried
it looks so sick. you deserve it. 12 whole years of waiting man
Congrats on the find! This late in the game it is impossible to find a 3 cell Graflex ANYTHING reasonably priced.
Very awesome! Really enjoyed seeing the process. I dream of one day finding a Graflex Flash at an antique store too...
+Arthur Serino George Lucas didn't make the props, the art department did. The first Star Wars movie also had a very limited budget and wasn't expected to do well, so they used what they could find. These are a lot more inspired than the sabers they cast for the prequels.
+Arthur Serino what's sad is that you sit around all day complaining about people wanting to use an old camera flash for a lightsaber prop.
+Arthur Serino If I was six years old I wouldn't be typing. Think before you type something you old idiotic fool.
+Arthur Serino you even have a playlist on advice for women lmao.

twenty fucking eight dollars ! dammm you are so lucky
I know lol, took years of looking to find though

I got one too my photography teacher gave it to me as a gift in highschool it was awesome
5:38 there is the best replica ever behind the original!
That was awesome, congrats on a great find. I had no idea the lightsaber was built from a Graflex light. Cheers :)

One hell of a find! Great build and thanks for sharing! =)

$28?! What a steal!
I’d recommend sanding off the rust, because it’ll spread without you knowing.
the grips were drilled and the set screws applied to the esb saber because the grips kept falling off...
I can see why, they move even when laying on a flat surface. I usually rest it on the bottom to avoid this.
Any idea where I can find a $28 flash cell lol 😄 Maybe ask auction houses, consignment stores etc. to be on the lookout maybe?
I've built a ESB Graflex Lightsaber, too, but out of cardboard!
MY HUNT BEGINS
Same

It's amazing to me that the most iconic weapon in science fiction...was cobbled together out of junk from the set. The grips were winshield wiper blades.
Wrong. They’re T tracks. The idea that they’re windshield wipers is a myth.
Mom of the century. That is all.
Only $28?! Most people sell those on eBay for $750+! That is an INSANELY good deal!
Is it $750 now? My friend bought one a few years back for $250.

Your Mom is AWESOME! You should call her.
I must say I like the ROTS version better, as far as the Graflex clamp goes. But this is a awesome project! For 28$, that's a steal!
ROTJ design look like a candle holder....no for me
I dont know if it was just me but it seemed the video skipped over the button and d ring attachment segment. I was curious about how the second button went on never having been able to find a graflex in my area

need Led bubble of TI 99 texas instrument to make New hope lightsaber and 7 straps (in empire stik back it isnt scews un straps but rivet pop)
does any know where i can get that little tab on top of the button, right next to the emitter (the highest thing on the lightsaber)?
did you add the silver tape on the GRAFLEX logo on the side of the flash?
THE WEL CLUB he likely did, because that's how the prop was.
Beautiful saber. Just fyi if you care, i have heard that the one used in the movie had the beer tab removed. There was just a hole there. Dont know why it was removed but apparently it was. Yes, it isn't accurate but I didn't want to damage the graflex.
Pyro Films you can use a dremel and remove it from the inside, without needing to worry about damaging the surface of the saber
where did you get the grips?
WHERE IS THIS STORE!?!?!?! I need to talk some sense into them owners!!!
?

Because it was so cold
The glue froze
awesome great work
Explain what type of glue did you use, and how did you attach the d-ring and what did you do with the rivets that went onto the kobald clip?
How do you add the grips to the graflex flash cell?
+CarlOseS The grips have adhesive when you buy them. You peel off the plastic and apply like a sticker.
Excitement!
Im a camera collecter and some day Ill come across this im sure of it.
Did you ever come across one?
Impressive
Very beautiful reproduction ! But I have one question where did you find the Graflex ?
+Elrohir An antique store in ventura
How do you add a blade on it?
Not quite sure, it seems you would have to gut the flash gun first
28 bucks damn you are lucky you could have used rivets because where they filmed it in finse norway the glue that was used to fasten the grips to the Graflex handle was snapping off
You kinda skipped the D ring install
Where did you get the grips
+Jarron Cole You can get them on custom saber forge
Yes, I believe mine are from the custom saber shop
rivets would work for the grips
I thought it was rivets not screws?
The kit I got had screws for the grips and rivets for the dring
FaDelegendz101 I think it was screws in esb and rivets in tfa. Don't quote me on that.
It changes depending on the stage of filming in ESB, there were several versions of the prop. Most people go for rivets though.
How did you apply the grips??
The grips had sticky material, I used a grip guide I found online to find out where they should go. Be careful at this stage, mine went on a bit crooked.
+Pyro Films alright thanks man
+Son Goku Kakarot
+Son Goku I see you have an interest in building lightsabers

I bought parts from custom saber forge and wannawanga
Great! How did you attach the D-ring?
+Robert Chambers Just superglue, holds quite well.
what kind of graflex is that?
3 Cell Graflex Flash Gun. Dates back to early to mid 20th century.
very lucky find
May I ask how you added the rivets for the d-ring without damaging the graflex?
I sawed off most of the threads, just left enough to fit into the hole on the grips. I used superglue to make sure it was secure
Sorry just realized I misread your post about the d-ring, that too was sawed off and attached using superglue. Holds together quite well I might add
Ah, thanks for the info!
@@CinetriDigital who are you? You're not the uploader.
I WANT ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What were the grips made from?
I got them from custom saber shop, they are rubber I believe
Tire tracks
+James DeRuvo Rubber, got them at the custom saber forge.
I just got one yesterday
a graflex flash cell costs online lowest price $230
I want to know where you found that, because holy shit that's cheap for what it usually goes for.
Its funny. The antique store owner could have gotten like 1000 bucks for that flash if they knew what it was
Your mom is the goat
Nice
there is no need to destroy antique flash guns .Graflex sold me a complete modern alternative🤷🏻♀️🤭
$28?!?!?! THOSE THINGS CAN GO UP TO 5,000
Anakin not Luke
I WANT THAT SO BAD!
28$!!!???
That’s anakins duh
But was also Luke's. He's right either way so chill out dude from 3 years ago.
I know there’s the authentic aspect to it but who give a shit about a lightsaber, fucking flip it for rent
We care. Screw rent. Away with thee uncultured swine.
$28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
il buy it off you for 29 dollars
You copies this of William Jakespeare. SO DONT LIE,
Where did you get the pre cut t-rail grips?
Custom saber shop
How did you put on the replica button on the front?
I put some tape on the back (just to make it a bit thicker) and it just slides into the slot. It's in there firmly, but can easily be removed for cleaning
What kind of glue to attach the grips?
There was adhesive that was already on the grips when you buy them
Where did you got those grips?
