The EPIC closing theme of the NBA Finals on ABC, used every year since 2005 except 2014. It's a little weird hearing Al Michaels talk over that theme compared to Mike Breen...
I couldn't find a proper broadcast close for 2004, but it's in HD so that's okay, and I also included 2003 as the first year of ABC coverage.
RIP: Kobe Bryant (1978-2020).

Marv's 2005 departure from MSG was a blessing in disguise. Mike became a fixture by becoming MSG's primary play-by-play. He then became ESPN and ABC main play-by-play as well.

ABC’s producer said that in 2014, he didn’t play the regular upbeat closing theme, and instead played a more negative sounding cut for the outro during the entire series (Edit: you can hear it at 8:12) because it felt like a funeral for the Heat and it ended their chances of becoming a dynasty. Even though it’s a neutral broadcast which is funny.
TheLocalLt its a shame ABC Sports died & ESPN on ABC emerged to cover the NBA Finals. Something about it feels off & confusing having 2 networks collide. Obviously they are sisters under Disney. But watching it feels rough. I remember in 2007 thinking WTF ESPN on ABC? Despite that I’m exited to see the rest of the ESPN/ABC contract for the coverage of the NBA Finals through the 24-25 season. Then who knows...NBC Sports with their amazing theme will make a comeback in 25-26 🏆
I love that dark theme. They usually play it now when the champions are celebrating in slow-mo

The darker theme fit perfect in 2014. I was stunned how the Spurs blew out the Heat the way they did.

@@tigernike23 I can deal with that but I find him special. I'm a big Mike Breen fan since his NBC days. He was the play-by-play guy on some notable NBC games like 2001 Sixers-Raptors, 2002 Nets-Celtics, and more.

Bring back the old Finals logo please. The new one is so boring. It just says NBA FINALS (YEAR) in all caps. I prefer the Cursive script with a red line over the F and the star over the i with the Championship trophy pic in the background

Old guys like me remember when ABC carried the NBA game of the week from 1965-73. The first year, the broadcasts were still in black and white. Games would start promptly at 2 and end at 4. No pre game show or post game show either! When tv audience began viewing the game at 2, action was already in progress because they wanted to make sure game was over by 4 so they could quickly cut to “The American Sportsman” with Curt Gowdy. Just about every week, it was Russell vs. Chamberlain, “The Big O” at Cincinnati Gardens, or the ST. Louis Hawks from Kiel Auditorium. The NBA only had 9 teams in the entire league. NBA Finals would only be televised when the game fell on a Sunday; otherwise you had to find the game on the radio, or hear about the result on the late nite news tv, or the morning paper the next day. Different times!
I have not heard a single time this theme song in this 2020 playoffs.. Was I the only one?

I can still vividly remember that Game 1 of 2005 Finals. Pistons went on like 20-4 run to start the game and yet ended up losing.
I really enjoy the 2011-13 ones, especially 2011 with the Mavs being huge underdogs.

3:01 so weird seeing "ABC SPORTS" in the video courtesies, since this was less than two years after ABC's sports division was merged into ESPN and all sports telecasts on ABC were under the "ESPN on ABC" banner... does that mean that some of the footage they used during the broadcast (I'm not talking about the footage used in the outro) was filmed prior to 2006?

The scored were mixed up. Pistons won that game 88-68, not Lakers. İt was game 3 of 2004 Finals.
