"needing to work your way up from the bottom" is a good life lesson to teach a kid when they are young and inexperienced. For an adult child that already has a lucrative job someplace else, asking them to leave and start over as if they don't have any life experience is just an excuse to try and not pay them because "family should help each other out"
A job honestly doesn’t gives you the time, space and opportunity to chase your dreams and achieve your goals. From personal experience i can tell you working a serious job is modern day slavery. they pay you a small amount for doing a significant amount of work and promises you promotion. Best advice make investments and take calculated risks that would guarantee your success.
This is really not as difficult as many people presume it to be. It requires a certain level of diligence, no doubt, which is something ordinary investors lack, and so a financial advisor often comes in very handy. That is how people are able to make such huge profits in the market.
The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment

Sounds like he's working 12 hour days doing 3 seperate jobs, delivery driving, bookeeping, and mechanic! Minimum should be getting 70k for that if not more.
My dad hired my mom to be his small business secretary. She never wanted to work, wanted to stay home, do needlework and jigsaw puzzles. Mom messed up receivables (accepted deliveries without checking if all items were delivered, taking down wrong information on phone calls, etc). Dad finally sent mom back home, and hired an elderly woman who kicked butt and was his perfect secretary. Mom got good at finishing 5,000 piece puzzles until she became very sick and disabled.
Some people just can't process certain things, no matter how hard they try. Your mum just wasn't suited to the role. Working with family and or friends is a recipe for disaster...

he's getting taken advantage of. for parents to do that is disgusting. Dave doesn't get into it but doing mechanical work is seriously skilled labor and worth a lot more than this barely livable wage.
Exactly. Usually if you ask someone to quit their job and come and work at your company you start by matching their previous wage, if not increasing it. Just because it's your son should be no different.
Yes, that was pretty cold hearted of Dad and stupid of Son. If they offered me a 50% pay cut I'd decline and keep suffering at the current job while looking for something else.
The dad hired him to help do mid-level work and pays him less than those who are technically "at the bottom." He's simply being taken advantage of. Dad's getting cheap labor because its family. He doesnt even really know what's going on with the business; so God forbid, he continues working there and it goes under. He would have been severely underpaid AND have nothing to inherit. Lose, lose.
My dad is proud that I managed to get out of our family business. From his view, we worked so hard the past 2 generations and me/my job are moving us to the next "Tier" of society. For shame on the parents who use their children for their own benefit
I think it should be the goal that if kids get hired by their parents, that they become competent enough to be able to putgrow the business, consider they do want to step up! I've build my mothers clinic with her as in, she took the financial risks and put in the first administrative steps to get our clinic and infrastructure and I took us from there to where we are now if it comes to managing the clinic, so she can "just" focus on being a doctor without another boss to have to answer to. I love my jobs and plan to take over once she retires and paying her out, but if I wanted to, I could actually step up by becoming a clinic manager of a bigger clinic / hospital for sure by now (not one with about 7 employees. And she'd be more than happy and proud for me if that was what I truly wanted!
The dad is taking advantage. What is often said in these situations is "oh, but one day all this will be yours." Yeah, he is buying it in the meantime thru being underpaid, and just maybe the business will be profitable at the time that he inherits it.
I'm confused. What parent knowingly has their child leave a job for the "family business" knowing they're only going to pay them half of what they were making in their prior job. How is that being a parent? That's not any kind of parent I had in my life. Thank God.
@KrisFlix I don't either. I retired at 54 though. I still work fun jobs, boarding and daycare with dogs and help out on a small family farm. They pay me in eggs, fresh produce and a little cash. My savings strategy is a bit different. Still decent advice from Mr. Ramsey

And in that case, everyone needs to pitch in - mom included! But if you are able to pay other employees a decent wage, then you are no longer just a struggling start-up and family should get paid what they are worth. This is an easy conversation. I would just go to my mom or dad and say I don’t make enough money. I’m out of here because you’re willing to pay strangers more than your own son and I’m doing 3 jobs bye bye 👋
This is sad. I don't think the Dad thinks too highly about his son. In my opinion, this isn't about starting from the ground up. And I think if he discusses it with his parents they won't be understanding. I'm sorry John. They are taking advantage.
A Financial Planner told me Saving at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. How can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings overtime?
That is exactly the reason I stopped trusting the financial advice of RUclipsrs; in the long run, I only end up with a jumbled collection of stocks and bonds. Whereas all I needed to earn over $350k in less than two years was guidance from a true market expert.
Dave should've pulled out a calculator because if the caller makes $45k a year, that means he makes $21.63. So the other truck drivers AREN'T making more than him at all. He's making the same as some and actually more than others (because he said they all get paid between $19/hr and $21/hr). And then Dave went and made the whole rest of the call about how he should confront his parents about how he "shouldn't be getting paid less than the other drivers" 🙃
He's not getting any consideration in his paycheck family, so why should he stay away from a job that pays him double, to work a job in consideration of family? Mom is getting consideration sitting on her butt doing nothing. They are giving him no consideration, so why is HE the ONLY sacrificing anything? Sounds like he's being taken advantage of. Starting at the bottom does not apply to someone leaving a good paying job. No need to get personal, just tell them you want to take a job that pays at least what you earned before. If they value you, they will pay.
The guy sounds like he’s doing more than the truck drivers. He’s doing accounting, driving and mechanics. That’s 3 jobs and not getting full pay for one job. He’s 27 and had an 80,000 job that he left.

To achieve a secure retirement, aiming to save at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) is advisable. Online tools can assist in calculating the best savings strategy for you, considering factors like age and income. Consistently saving this percentage can help build your retirement fund effectively, thanks to the benefits of compound interest.
For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement.
It's true that many people underestimate the importance of advisers until their own feelings burn them out. A few summers ago, following an ongoing divorce, I needed a significant push to keep my company afloat. I looked for licensed advisors and found someone with outstanding qualifications. Incredible. I believe in investing and working because I love luxury . when a buddy of mine recommended me to a financial advisor. We spoke about investments and money. I began investing with $120,000, and after two months, the value of my portfolio was $314,800. You think this is crazy, but I choose to reinvest my profit and become more intriguing. We have been working together for more than 10 years, consistently turning a profit. a year ago, opened my first restaurant and bought myself a brand new car last week.
That's quite remarkable! I'm genuinely interested in benefiting from the guidance of such experienced advisors, especially considering the current state of my struggling portfolio. May I know the names of the advisors who has been assisting you in navigating these financial challenges?

Of course, he's also learning the business as Dad sees it, preparing to take over some day. Things have changed Dad, your little boy isn't mowing the lawn and taking the trash out for movie money any more. Give him a professional 'contract' and pay if he's actually doing the jobs but if he's still only worth carrying out the trash - have a come to Jesus talk.
Sounds to me as though these parents are taking advantage of their son. They want him to do just as much work as the dad and far more than the mom but they get all of the profit! With a family like that, who needs enemies?!?!
Don't use the word ridiculous. It's a buzz word that's going to make them angry. You want respect and strength to steer this conversation, not bitterness and sophomoric language.
Disgusted with this man's parents. I would never ask my child to do this unless it was to make them MORE successful. If they arent paying him $120k+ a year they shouldnt have asked him to do this.
Dave can’t do math. Drivers get $19-$21 per hour. $20x40x52=$41,600 per year. Caller makes $45k. He makes more than the drivers and he gets to sit around in the air conditioned office a big part of the day. He’s well paid for what he’s doing.
@@quiltkid2655 He does the driving job only part-time and then does a little invoicing and does some mechanic stuff as needed. He’s doing less work altogether than the drivers who do that all day and he’s getting paid more.
@@BusArch42 Wrong. He drives a few hours in the morning, then he hangs around in the office. He’s way overpaid for what he does because he’s the boss’ kid.
John is a fool to ever set foot in that company without a viable salary agreement based on his experience and actual work responsibilities, doing invoicing and self-supervised mechanical work is not "starting from the bottom" that is just being a fool doing $1 worth of work for 35 cents. And forget about an inheritance, when those skinflints are ready to retire they'll strip all the cash out of the business and write up a succession contract that has him paying 5X the actual market value of the business over the next 20 years so they have a retirement income. Leave their mess alone and go do real work for a real company and a real income. Yes you'll lose your inheritance which you'll never get anyway they aren't out for your best interests if they were they wouldn't have you on a starvation salary with a wife and kid.
Is this young man going to "inherit" this family business? It sounds like from the variety of his job responsibilities that maybe this is his learning apprenticeship as an "investment" in his future? Ask his parents for a raise and soon. Does his mother run the household, take care of the meals, chores, and all the rest? Maybe she has unseen medical issues as well.

In times like this it is better to seek help from a professional as such key decisions are better guided by experts with market experience.
That is exactly the reason I stopped trusting the financial advice of RUclipsrs; in the long run, I only end up with a jumbled collection of stocks and bonds. Whereas all I needed to earn over $350k in less than two years was guidance from a true market expert.
Thanks for replying, That's a very impressive return, You must have a good idea of stocks. How did you go about it?
I just ran a search with her name out of curiosity and came across her web page, I wrote her an email hope she replies soon.
So the drivers make 19 and hour. In a 40 hour week, that is 40k a year.
How much do I make at $28 an hour?
@@BREEZYM6015 $58,240 / year assuming no overtime and you work 40 hours per week.
@@BREEZYM6015 28 x 40 x 52
He's not getting any consideration in his paycheck family, so why should he stay away from a job that pays him double, to work a job in consideration of family?
Mom is getting consideration sitting on her butt doing nothing. They are giving him no consideration, so why is HE the ONLY sacrificing anything?
Sounds like he's being taken advantage of.
Starting at the bottom does not apply to someone leaving a good paying job. No need to get personal, just tell them you want to take a job that pays at least what you earned before. If they value you, they will pay.
I make 60k working full-time four days a week. No complaints here.
The guy sounds like he’s doing more than the truck drivers. He’s doing accounting, driving and mechanics. That’s 3 jobs and not getting full pay for one job. He’s 27 and had an 80,000 job that he left.
Rachel did not start at the bottom
Yeah generally shares of the business are considered a form of compensation. But dave hates math and loves semantics
He never said she started the bottom. He said they make equal pay structure as her peers.
@@lalomadrid5943 ANd he also said, family should start at the bottom.
@@lalomadrid5943 so they all have an ownership stake? Because that's compensation. So if they don't, which they don't, the compensation structure is not equal. Listen for reality rather than rhetoric
He needs to ask himself: if it wasn’t my dad, would I still have this job?
His dad is using him hard.
The question here is does he live at home for free?
She has contributed to my reserve increasing from $275k to $850k regardless of inflation.
@@LeslieWagenheim Cynthia Alexandra Jackson is her name. She is regarded as a genius in her area and works for Empower Financial Services. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
That’s the industry standard
He just needs to get on a path to take over ownership in the business.
Is he living at home, Mom's doing the cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc? He's getting an allowance every week, a pretty good 'allowance' but an allowance.
Hope his talk goes well with parents, but he's gonna get some push back! Mom's allowance needs to be trimmed.
how are they finding drivers at $21 an hour? even in Birmingham that is weak
Sounds to me as though these parents are taking advantage of their son. They want him to do just as much work as the dad and far more than the mom but they get all of the profit!
With a family like that, who needs enemies?!?!
"there's no silver spoon" but they get royalty just because of nepotism
Don't use the word ridiculous. It's a buzz word that's going to make them angry. You want respect and strength to steer this conversation, not bitterness and sophomoric language.
You can start at the bottom, but you don't stay there
Did your parents pay for your college education? Something is off with the father
Basically Rachel super rich 😂🤣
Did you pay for his college? did he get bigger profits then the other workers ? Silver spoon to me
Dad's taking advantage.
Pathetic.
The thing you are forgetting is that he also does invoicing & mechanics.
What is he getting paid for the extra work?
@@quiltkid2655 He does the driving job only part-time and then does a little invoicing and does some mechanic stuff as needed. He’s doing less work altogether than the drivers who do that all day and he’s getting paid more.
He’s driving 8 hours a day then he comes in and does the desk work. He’s working 12 hour days. Way over 40 hour weeks.
@@debbie7771yup he is a full time driver plus the other duties.
My mom did all the cooking and cleaning at home - she did not get to be on the payroll of my dad! The calllers mom should not be on payroll for doing nothing while they underpay their adult son!!
He has no profit sharing in the business. He has no ownership
Why in the world leave a job making $80k for one making half that..stupid decision..should’ve told Dad you expected $80k working Daddys little job before you ever took the position!
More likely the kid figured out how to leverage his access to Ramsey.
Ugh. Why did this guy put himself in this position?
longer hours, less pay, and in a multi role function.
for $45,000/yr?
lets see
For $80,000/yr
you work 8-5
one role of function
free after 5pm.

80k is NOT lucrative
What an incredibly privileged thing to say…
It not privilege its just facts of cost of living in certain parts of the USA @bdaly03
@@bdaly03Lucrative means VERY VERY profitable. $80k/year is above average & my family has done very well on that amount living frugally, but since many in the US middle class earn $100k, 150k, 200k, 300k or even😊 more, not lucrative is basically correct.
😊p
He is probably slacking! Parents tend to pay their kids more. He needs to go out on his own and earn a living.
That's an insane take!
He's preparing invoices, driving, dealing with customers...
The whole business setup sounds like a joke.
Mom is 'around'. Pathetic.
This kid already proved he's worth over $80k a year to somebody else... I'd advise he go do it.
I'd bet anything his dad is turning over $3m... and spending about $3m. That'll be the problem.
@@saelaird No! He didn't prove anything. Would you quit an $80k job to go make $40k?
@@saelaird Mom is part owner!! It's not the "helps" place to decide what she does or doesn't do. That's how you know he is a slacker.
I own rental homes. My son has a job making great money. It would be crazy for him to quit his job to make half of that to help me manage real estate. It would also be crazy for him to decide what I do for my business and what I chose to pay others to do.
@@saelaird Dad drives occasionally when someone calls out. Dad does invoices!!!! Dad also has Manager overseeing the financials of the business. So, why does he stop at 330 to do a job that 2 others are already doing? That's when I knew he was slacking. He is going to the office to shoot the chit instead of making deliveries. His parents see this and don't pay him as much as the guy out there busting azz.
@@saelaird The son wants more money to be the slacker. He has already mentioned pay to his parents. It's time for him to get a job on his own. You know the one where he was unhappy because he was expected to do what the other employees do. Invoices aren't a full time job. Dad is just keeping a check on the business and his paid manager. Dad is trying to hire more drivers to relieve himself from driving. So he and Mom can enjoy life. They are business owners....not employees. They need to make things clear to their son.
