You’ve pulled another one out of the hat Dawn, awesome content. Fumio Susaki’s book is one I keep rereading and would find hard to part with. Enjoy Today! Thank you.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and I’ve been so thankful that I already had a highly simplified home as I’ve faced my various treatments. If anything, it has encouraged me to go one step further, because it’s such a relief to have everyday life under control when you are thrown a curveball. Having a calm and relaxing home has meant a lot to me these last few months, as it has allowed me to focus on rest and healing.
I'm going through that right now. I'm so thankful that I had already started decluttering before I got diagnosed, but I am determined to go even further before my surgeries. I want my house to be easy and peaceful.
I love this. There is a verse in Luke that stuck with me in the beginning of my journey toward a minimal, simple life. “And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”” Luke 12:15
I do believe that owning less is freeing. I also believe that sometimes we obsess about getting rid of stuff to the point that it causes a lot of anxiety. There has to be a happy medium in there somewhere.🙂
I am at the beginning of my decluttering journey. I’ve completed one round of my entire house and I have started round 2. I can not believe how much my spending has been curbed. I actually had enough money leftover last payday that I was able to pay off two small credit cards. Thank you so much for making these videos you have changed my life. ❤❤❤
That's fantastic, congratulations. It really is like an onion, I do 'little layers' often and it keeps up the momentum, and helps me stay strong when people try to bring things I don't need into my house!
I had the same aha moment. Someone asked me how I have been so disciplined to not want to shop at target anymore and buy all the things. De-junking thousands of dollars in "stuff" magically did that for me😅
At 72 I’m pretty minimalist but I do enjoy a decorated home that i can maintain easily and I love variety of clothes so being content is my goal and having God in my life is enough. Love you and your sister bunches❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s not like I know Fumio personally, but I’m Japanese and I actually got to “talk” with him on SNS awhile ago. When I told him that he’s known especially for “the silent to-do list” abroad, he was pleasantly surprised! He didn’t know how some ideas resonate with people from other cultures😊 Goodbye Things had so many great practical decluttering tips as well as very important mindset for minimalism. I personally love the phrase “you remember more because you let go”. And the story of a letter from his mom. It helped me to hold onto memories instead of things. And the way he explained how we get used to stuff was so good. By owning less, we see little changes in life and can feel so much contentment, gratitude, joy and happiness❤
When my dad passed his brother wanted to make wristbands with a statement about my dad for their annual high school reunion. After thinking about all the awesome things my dad accomplished he finally said, "You what, Jae really just enjoyed every day." The bands say just that, "Enjoy Today!"💜💜💜💜💜
That's ok . It's just a small gesture to remember him by. Some will cherish it and it will brighten their day. Others may enjoy it for a time and then let go of it. The thought is so sweet .
This is the perfect message I needed for today Dawn. I had a baby early Jan and have been struggling living in mess of a hoarding mentality for years. My autism makes it hard for me to let go of things. But a few weeks ago I house sat for friends for a week. I packed a big bag for me and lots of bags for my baby and my older son, but realised during my time away that I only really wore the same rotation of tops during the week and the same 2 pairs of jeans rotating between days. I came home realising it is time to get rid of all the mess I have lived in for years and my sister put me onto your videos. I have since been binge watching your channel, bagging up things to go to the op shop and have never felt as light weight emotionally and spiritually than I do now. Thank you so much! ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺
When I moved to where I am right now almost 8 years ago, I had 3, yes (3) 10X20 storage units and (1) 10x15 storage units full. I am now moving again and all my possession that I own now will fit in a 6X12 u haul trailer. I've come a long way and it feels so freeing!!!
Dawn, I've been a silent viewer for a long time, but I just wanted to say that this video really gave a new meaning to your title of "The Minimal Mom." I felt very cared for and seen in this video in a way that I wish I had a long time ago. Thank you for continuing to encourage and push us toward less and simplicity. It really is what we were made for.
Dawn this is so great. You are so right. How arrogant do we have to be to assume we have more than today? I’m a fellow believer in Christ and what you said about not worrying about the future and holding on to things in case we need it later on and that we let go of it hoping that when we need it again the things we need will find it’s way back to us. What an eye opener. Our Lord provides for our every need and letting go of my “just in case” stuff can help build my faith and trust in the Lord’s provision.
Amen! Worrying about the future and things that could happen doesn’t show any faith in what God can do. He loves His children and He provides just what we need. We should let it go and trust that He will take care of our needs.
“Give us this day our daily bread…”, the words go. It truly means to live with, and be grateful for, exactly what you have today. I live by these words every day, and it has brought more peace and happiness than ‘stuff’ ever could. Thanks for your passion for this message!
I went through my closet and my kids closet. We tossed everything that didn’t make us feel good. We’re donating it tomorrow. We’re going through our clutter and everything that we no longer enjoy we’re donating too. It made me realize how much money I wasted over the years. I’m becoming a minimalist thanks to your channel and others like it. The house feels cleaner and my stress levels are better
When the storm hits , mental, emotional, physical, none of our items will give us the freedom, peace, time or energy. Dawn , you are teaching us all these things and so much more from your grounded real experience which we are grateful for. Thank you .♥️
What an amazing sunrise. Would love a view like that. Thanks for showing us what you wake up to. I stopped saving the good stuff 18 years ago when my husband died at 48 years old. I use the good stuff daily. The silver utensils, the good China.
The last 2-3 years I've been embracing minimalism - which can mean different things to different people. We all have our own journey so long as you are following your own path and being true to yourself.❤ My minimalism is a process, my home is still welcoming, functional and comforting. If at any time those 3 things are missing then I know I've gone too far. Not once have I regretted letting go of any objects which has given me so much freedom. My motto is 'if I had to move next week, would I take it' if the answer is no it pretty much goes out the door!
I ask myself," Will our grown son want this when we are gone?" The answer is nearly always no. If I'm not sure, I ask him and stress I want an honest answer. If the answer is yes, he can go ahead and take it!
I love this! I love and can feel your passion Dawn! We recently had a person stay in our home to watch our dogs when we went out of town. She told me after how lovely it was to stay in our home where we seemingly only had what we used and nothing more. It impacted her enough that she went back to her own home and started to declutter prompting her husband to notice and ask her what was going on. What a compliment that was to me - and should be to YOU TOO Dawn since you have helped me so much. I also want to keep making passes around; peel more layers off; go even further towards having just only what we need, which seems to be less and less than what I actually think.
I loved that book by Fumio Sasaki. He explains how much of what we acquire is us trying to tell a story about what things we like. I like to garden so I collected lots of gardening books. But people don't come in my house and marvel over my collection of gardening books! I don't need a shelf full of books to know that I love flowers and plants. It feels good to understand that and I just decluttered about 15 gardening books!
@@margareteraab7725 I already have a simple wardrobe of just llbean or landsend shirts, but find that I like the darker colors. I never reach for the pastels, so I need to get rid of those. We know what we actually use and what we don't. Stuff is such a burden. Ugh. Very good, keep going!!
That is so right & another biggie is people having too many cook books. We all cook the same favourites don't we ! A good idea is a folder of new recipes [ from friends etc ] as you never make everything in a cook book.
My life is so much simpler since I have been following the Minimal Mom! Thanks so much for all you have done to serve my family! Your videos are my favorite!
This resonates Dawn, it’s been so freeing to get rid of clothes that don’t fit, don’t look great etc, I’m down to 4 and a bit draws (no wardrobe/closet). I don’t think I’ve done enough as there are clothes I don’t seem to be wearing, so more will be going. The silent to do list is so true, I had so much hobby stuff that was in my She Shed for 5 years, and before that, in boxes, I wasn’t using it, I had got to the point that every time I went in the shed I felt guilty because it wasn’t all neat, I wasn’t using it, it had cost so much money blah, blah. I have been getting rid of it, not quite finished yet as our charity shop will only take so much each delivery but it is going! And the relief is enormous, I’m keep very little of it because it appears I don’t have the bandwidth for it at the moment. I was full of fantasy self ideas of making a business out of it but reality is, I don’t like the pressure of having to make a certain thing, I prefer the freedom of doing what I want creatively 😂 I’m 64 and I’m getting to the season where I just want to enjoy stuff, to relax, to meet friends and be free to have coffee/lunch, not have to produce something to sell or do. It’s so great that you are sharing this wisdom, you have managed to find your peace and it’s definitely something others could enjoy. I’ve been done with trying to compete with others for a while but still felt I was missing something, I was looking for something simpler in my life, less overwhelm, more calmness and I believe you have helped me find how to gain that. ❤
I love this video so much! Beginning a minimalist lifestyle 10 years ago helped me to manage my anxiety, insecurities and truly brought me a peace I hadn’t known was possible. I have never looked back and never regretted the change. My husband was reluctant but came around throughout the years. He will never be as minimal as I choose to be, but we have found a comfortable balance. It just took time and practice, love and patience. It is possible to be a minimalist in a home where others aren’t. Just make the choice for yourself with your own items and it will slowly spread through the space and family. I have one child who is a minimalist by nature and one who isn’t. It’s ok. Just take control of the space you maintain and manage and your own items. That alone will bring you immense peace. Minimalism is different for everyone and every family because there are stages and cycles and seasons. And that is ok 😊 Love you Dawn and I cherish your videos and sweet self.
I think you have come into your own! So happy that you have reached this sweet spot. You’re genuinely loving your life and that is what is about. We all know this is why you do what you do! Thank you!
It’s not too far. People for all the centuries before us never had manage the vast inventory of stuff that plagues our current civilization. I love the freedom to live today with simplicity. You are one of our best philosophers and guidance mentors Dawn ❤
@susan5661 I agree and I never thought about it like that but you’re right! It’s so much easier to accumulate things than it was for our great grandparents and grandparents and maybe even our parents! You really have a great point there!
When I see extreme cleanouts -- it hurts my heart to see the stuff that people bought, along with the packaging, ends up in landfills 😢. Our society needs to be more spiritual and less materialistic
My favorite part of goodbye, things is “More than anything, though, the biggest change in my behavior since I said goodbye to my things has been the rise of a new sense of everyday gratitude. I am truly moved by my experiences in the present moment, and I find myself walking through life grateful for the friends I have and for those few things I’ve kept. Minimalism isn’t an objective. It’s a method. There are many important lessons that I’ve learned through minimalism. But if you’ve already learned these lessons and more, you don’t need to become a minimalist.” I love that he reminds us that it isn’t about making our homes look like his, it’s about learning gratitude and that it’s not about the stuff it’s about people and living life today. And we aren’t our stuff.
Dawn I totally agree with you about how having less makes us freer and happier. Living day by day is the best feeling and the simpler our lives are the easier living for today is. I have personally found that living with less means really benefitting from less too (i.e: less to clean, to organise, to maintain, to store, to stress about, to burden our families with, to replace when broken, to constantly have to spend money on) whilst all the while gaining more (i.e: more freedom, free time, space, money, appreciation for what we have; and for the people we have in our lives). Dawn I think it is fantastic that you encourage everyone to at least try living with less and to do it boldly and with passion.
Dawn, I hope you see this message. I am a young mom who found your channel as I was coming out of serious depression and we were beginning our journey. I relate to your story in so many ways. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that God placed you in my life at the time I needed. Simplifying has improved my home and our family's lives tremendously, including my mental health. It has freed up energy for deeper healing in many areas of life like it did for your family. Thank you for your genuine love and empathy. It's powerful to feel we're not alone in our struggles or successes. You have an incredible and practical way of connecting with people. Thank you for allowing God to work through you to bless our lives. ❤️
This is all so true!!!! We became full time RVers five years ago. This forced me to have only what I really need. I will never go back to a big house because the minimalist lifestyle is so peaceful and freeing!
I’d love to give 1000 thumbs up to this message. Thank you Dawn for sharing the truth of what you have learned. There is life and freedom waiting for all of us!
I have struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my life. The first time I went to therapy my therapist said that depression comes from looking back and anxiety comes from looking ahead. Staying present has been one of my best and most frequently used tools for standing against my mental problems. I tattooed Be Here Now on my arm as a reminder. I found you and Joshua Becker and other minimalists during the pandemic and it has changed my life. Thank you.
Believing that the stuff you need will find its way to you when you need it is really powerful. I hate to look for things so I felt like I had to keep everything just in case. Letting that fear go is really powerful.
THIS. It’s a beautiful way to live. I have been near destitute before and I guess in my case life taught me that (even as a rather unwilling participant. And yes poverty does suck but there are still lessons to be learned regardless). What I truly needed somehow found its way to me and I didn’t die. Huge life lesson. And it’s also why I don’t buy the whole “people hold onto things Bcuz they’ve experienced extreme lack.” I found that the opposite was true for me. Going the other way with it (hoarding etc) isn’t ever about poverty and hard times as much as it is about a certain mindset and both the haves and have nots are affected by it. I guess my go to for that would def be “His eye is on the sparrow” concept. To stop fretting about tmrows Bcuz if even the random little sparrows can keep finding the crumbs for food then how much more will we? Bcuz who looks after them? They seem to not have anyone and they aren’t big and mighty and high up on the food chain etc. and yet they continue to find what they need when they need it.
@@goodenoughgirl8102 I often look at the birds out of my window and think, they don't have never ending to do lists, piles of clothes or junk etc. How did we ever make our lives so complicated?
@@softsophisticate Ikr. Maybe if we could shut our brains off for a bit and not be all up in our heads and get more in tune with things like instinct and intuition and spiritual things and nature etc. I’m pretty sure the deep answers we all seek are not found in only the space between our ears. I feed some stray cats a bit of kibble and I would sit on my porch sipping my coffee and see these beautiful birds just come grab a bite and take off. (Of course I wondered if it was ok for them to eat-lol-but it is mostly just a lot of corn meal tho). It was cool tho. Cardinals. Blue birds. Sparrows. Etc. That also made me think as well and I was glad to be able to witness that so up close and personal. (Of course I did find it funny also Bcuz the entire animal kingdom seems to love that kibble-ants, bugs, birds, raccoons, possums, dogs, cats, etc lol). 😅😅 I was also thinking that it is more of a “hippy” or bohemian or beatnik mindset and in this world that is sadly so often frowned upon. But I’ve just started to embrace my “inner hippy” regardless. Lol. Bcuz who said that XYZ is “being responsible and mature?” Maybe they’re actually wrong about that. Or at least have it way out of balance.
Perfect timing Dawn! Between both our boys the Provincial govt has taken half of the funding for their Autism therapy. I’ve decided to have a garage sale - our boys therapy is most important. Material things mean nothing. As I’m watching/listening to your video I’ve labelled boxes and looking around our place to clear our more things.
I love you, Dawn. You have helped me so much in taking back control of my house & life. However, I really dont want to be minimal. I like that my closet is mamageable now, and just has things I like, but it is full. I have tons of options, and I like that. Same with our dishes. 10 place settings in our house of 6, and a set of fine china for holidays & special occasions. Is it more than we need? Maybe, but its not more than I can hamdle, and I like it. But I'll do me, you do you & keep giving us your great tips!
As always, every video you do is an “!” For my life. I’ve followed you over a year and have pushed the limits towards my minimalism. My mom has dementia and Alzheimer’s and has saved everything for the last 30 years. She has resisted me touching her stuff for fear I will Declutter it. She has since moved to assisted care and we pared down all her possessions to a minimal amount. She is SO HAPPY and keeps saying how she doesn’t need a single thing. She is happier, clearer in mind, and she can manage the amount of things she has. Minimalism is healthy in body mind and soul. I love seeing my mom’s mind is clearer now, maybe because she has less to unconsciously think about. God bless you and your family. Keep these videos coming!
Currently doing this with my grandma. I tried to pack my patience for the first visit, which went quite well. By the time we finished she asked when I will be returning. Today, I visit again!
Oh, Dawn, by far your best video, yet. (And I regularly declutter stuff out of my minimal home.) We do only have this moment or today in time. There's no guarantee for the future. And by the way, your self-haircut looks adorable.❤❤❤❤❤
Embracing minimalism has really allowed me more to live in the present. I no longer have regret or thought of the past and no need to worry if I have enough for the future. What a gift this is.
You motivated me to just clean out and reorganize my drawer of plastic containers and got rid of the extra lids. It took two minutes and added to my joy today!
Thank you, Dawn. You are absolutely right. I've been purging like crazy and it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted from my heart and mind. The future gets here so very quickly. Get rid of your stuff now and live Today 😊❤.
I've been thinking of similar things for the last couple of days. My husband and I are planning/saving for our retirement in less than ten years. And there's so much less to worry about having less in the house. This season of my life, I'm becoming even more minimalistic with possessions and learning to relax more with my life. I wish I could go back and tell younger me to dump all the unnecessary nonsense years ago.
Pardon me as I try to find the right words here, but when you talk about worrying that people think y'all are weird because your house looks too empty or whatever, I've never thought about that at all. Even with people whos minimalistic homes I've actually visited, I've always just thought that they were really good at keeping their house clean (obviously less stuff makes it easier lol). Even when you've done clean with me videos, it just always amazes me how "clean" it is before you start. This is my goal. And although I've decluttered a huge amount of my possessions, I always want to do more. I'm always challenged to go farther. I want to live within my means, not just financially but also within the capabilities that God has given me. All that to say; you're not weird. You're enviable. But you also make minimalism attainable. Thank you. Thank you for what you do and what you have taught us ❤️
Dawn, You have helped me rid my life of so many unnecessary "things." I'm still working on it and have a long ways to go but gosh it feels good when I fill a bag or box with items to donate. Been watching you for a long time and have so much respect for the choices your family is making. Love that you homeschool your children. I homeschooled my daughter when it was not a popular choice and it was perfect for us. She never chose to go to college when she graduated and went on to open her own business which is very successful. Also, loving Rusty Judgement! Proud to be your neighbor; well sort of, I'm in Wisconsin. God Bless! 😉😀🥰
Thank you for wanting everyone to experience your happiness! My life and my living space are out of control, after living through very traumatic experiences. Also grew up with lack, hence the tendency to accumulate. I'm constantly struggling to bring things under control again. Your videos are helpful to at least start imagining that. Thank you for being there with your encouragement and advice! 🥰
Dawn, I just adore you! I can feel how much you care about us! I'm not a Mom, I'm probably 20 years older than you, but I SO relate to you. I'm wanting to go a bit further, too. Love your videos and your soulful approach to life. Much love to you and your family. ❤
Dawn, you are right, we are not guaranteed any more than today. I am 37 and have been battling breast cancer for about5 years now and will have to forever. I do not live minimalist however I have everything out (no storage by choice) and I love my fashion but it makes me happy. When we moved into our new house 3 years ago i watched your videos while i got rid of a single garage size worth of stuff. We do get rid of stuff monthly too and only buy second hand so it doesn't bank up. I have been looking into Swedish death cleaning too but for now I'm still here and I will enjoy the special possessions I am now curating with your help. 😊
I really appreciate the sentiment of this video. You're right... we aren't guaranteed another day - and... we can't take anything with us! Living in the moment and being truly grateful with our blessings is SO important!
Dawn, this video is extremely thought provoking. Such an impactful way of looking at the "why" for minimalism. As you mentioned, you can't take any possessions with you. Being more on the downhill slide of life and seeing my husband face health struggles, taking nothing with you is more real than ever. Your videos have long impressed me, and have made me declutter without any regret. This one, however, is probably the most significant light bulb moment any of your videos have ever made on me. Thanks for your insight, Dawn. ❤
02:40 thanks for caring - I feel it all the way here in London! I was just 'going further' with my decluttering, sat down for a break, and you popped up giving me permission to do so :) I love going over things again and feeling more ready than the last time to let it go!
I first found Dawn back in January 2023, and my aha moment came when she said all your belongings are inventory you have to manage. How much time and energy do you have to spend on it? That hit home with me. I was overwhelmed and unable to focus because I was managing too much inventory. I let go of a lot and then just lived with the results for a couple of months and then found more to declutter. I'm still a work in progress, but feeling better now.
I adore and deeply appreciate your kind and gentle mentorship. It’s quite, calm and not preachy. Each video is a different take, an encouragement to see things slightly differently. Thank you 🙏 from Australia 🇦🇺
So this week we decided to hire a dumpster to clean up the garden and garden house. I decided to get rid of some stuff, in the house. And my husband noticed the difference! And so we decided together, we are going to let go of more. And 3 days ago that dumpster was full. We've been more calm, happier and the house is so easy to clean! Best decision ever.
Thank you for this video! I needed to hear this. I emptied my office closet onto my pool table to make room to move my mom into my home. I had too much craft stuff that I don't use, but have holding onto for someday when I have time. It's been stressing me out. It needs to be donated to someone who will use & enjoy it. Thank you!!!
Keep being bold Dawn! Such great truth in this video! I , like so many who follow, have found the freedom minimalism brings! Your RUclips videos have radically changed my life. As a mom of three and wife of 16 years I could NEVER stay on top of all our stuff! Our house was constantly messy and out of control. I wondered over and over what was wrong with me. Until the day I stumbled upon your videos! I was looking for a new laundry system in 2021 and GOT SO MUCH MORE! THANK YOU for all that you do… for putting these truths out there so we can know that it’s not us, we are just trying to manage too much inventory! I read all of these comments about all the trials and tough journey’s people are walking. My eyes are open to the important things in life! Thank you!!
Dawn, what a beautiful message! You are so right about how the just in case stuff gets in the way of today life. And too often we assume a tomorrow that we will not actually have to do that fun thing or kind thing or creative thing we plan to do, or a tomorrow in which we will sort and clean up our home and not leave a big mess for someone else.
THANK YOU! This was exactly what I needed to hear today. My sister and I are going through all of stuff…..it’s amazing when you realize just how much of a burden it all has become, just suffocating. Envisioning the possibility of minimal belongings gave me such a sense of relief and peace. I believe you are right…..we miss so much because of all the stuff that we think needs tending. Amen to freedom, God bless you ❤️
I love these videos where you talk about all the benefits of decluttering and becoming minimalist. I also love the ones where you go beyond talking about things and explain minimizing life, ie gifting experiences instead of stuff, becoming unbusy, minimizing stress. You have changed my life with your videos and message. ❤
Dawn, I have watched probably most of your videos in the last few weeks. Thank you so much for the content you’ve created! I’m also a native Minnesotan :) we started decluttering about 4 years ago when we moved to Bulgaria as missionaries. We had been here 6 months and already our 1100 square foot apartment felt overrun with stuff! And as a new mom living in a new country I felt overwhelmed. We’ve made slow progress over the last few years, but with watching your videos I feel like I finally took things farther and reached the sweet spot where we truly have just what we need. We now have a 2 year old and 4 year old, and I’m shocked at how much easier it is for them to tidy up their toys after we minimized. There is always housework, but when drawers aren’t packed or even mostly full, putting things away is so much easier! We host people or have Bible studies in our home several times a week, and I’ve noticed a change of not having to spend an hour rushing around preparing. We can just focus on being with people! I so appreciate you sharing the wisdom you’ve gained and also your videos with Diana sharing your faith and truths from scripture. We’ve seen how minimalism goes so hand in hand with our values of focusing our hearts on eternal things and trying to resist materialism, consumerism and love of money. God bless you guys!
This is one of my favorite videos from you! Thank you. Going against the popular consumerist norm is unconventional, yet so refreshing! Less is best, and things will never fill our void 💕💕💕
Fairly new subscriber here. Dawn, I found you through Cas from Clutterbug, saw some of the videos/podcasts you've done together, and I've learned a lot from both of you. :) I live in a small apartment but had managed to completely clutter all my closets, cupboards, and ahem...the mud room. Some people have a junk "drawer", while I had a junk room...yikes! Lol. I began decluttering last month a little at a time and am now approaching nearly 1,100 items that I threw out or donated. I'm still going! It's addictive. :) I do love to decorate, so probably my biggest struggle now is wall decor, seasonal decor, and craft supplies. But, my living spaces are coming along slow but sure, and I really do feel so much freer, and it's certainly far easier to declutter now. Dawn, thanks for your tips! I enjoy your content. I don't know yet if I can get to the point that I'm a minimalist, but borrowing some of your lingo, I definitely have far less inventory now, and it's great! I am already finding I have more time each day to YES, actually enjoy it!!
This video and your advice align with Scripture. Matthew 6:34 is “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Yes! My favorite way to explain it is minimalism is a tool not a religion, just like frugality. It’s flexible. It’s a tool that can benefit anyone in their life, right where they’re at.
I am not a minimalist, but do like order. I am retired and our children are all grown with grandchildren of their own. However, I am a homesteader, which means I cook all our meals from scratch, make quilts and other things from scraps, grow my own vegetables and also have a small nursery where I grow things from essentially sticks. I have a LOT of hobbies and enjoy them very much. I don't have a lot going on that I can't control, and minimal stress. Now my "things" don't give me stress. I have a lot of things to manage but that's part of my hobby. I love to cook and bake and so have a lot of different tools and supplies. I can imagine though a time when I had young children with their activities, a full time job and had to manage the home as well. THEN I could see going minimal. Thanks for supporting those people that need this type of downsizing and freeing their minds because with all so many people have going on, something has to go. I appreciate your channel even though I do not have the same needs as others that may be following you.
Good morning 🌞 I really enjoy your videos this one today so great thanks dear Dawn you are really amazing and you help me when I get overwelmed it makes sense have a lovely day thank you thank you ❤ Karen
Same! And I think it feeds others' souls too. : - ) A friend once told me my house *feels* good and has good feng shui (even though I had and have a LOT of stuff! ; - ), and I think that's partly because there are vignettes of beauty and joy visible from every area balanced with open spaces. Nature is visually abundant, and living with textiles, art, and color that evoke the soothing and inspiring beauty of the world feels wonderful to me. 🌿😻💐
I feel the same, I don’t never go over board on buying anything. I can’t go completely minimalist, not that I can’t, I don’t want to. I have very little furniture, very little on my walls and yes it’s so easy to keep clean. But when all my kids and grandchildren or siblings come over I want enough dishes, towels, wash cloths and so for everyone. But to each their own is what I say. I do fine with what I have, and good with it. ❤
@lsteinke3987 surprisingly it frees your mind sometimes...no clutter...no distraction...and you awaken your senses to other things. But that's just me! ...and I do love art and colour...so I get it!
Love you Dawn ❤ and all your videos ! Life is definitely much better with less! Minimalism is the way to go ….I took our kitchen table out of the kitchen now we eat in dining room for all our meals ( we never used that room) so it made our kitchen look more open…..and bigger! It does take time to downsize but it’s worth it. Also it’s great to know exactly what your going to wear everyday and love what you wear😊 and feel great in it. Thank you! ❤
I was definitely messy with my stuff when I was younger and I had alot of stuff!! With each move we made I had to pack all of my stuff which was exhausting not to mention time consuming. Now that I am getting older, I looked through my papers, I shredded 14 bags of papers!! For two years I was donating 12 to 15 pieces of clothing each week!! I now have less papers and clothes. I'm so happy!! My minimal clothes fit in a small closet. My husband is a hoarder which for me I wish he would downsize with his stuff that he is not using. I feel good with less stuff!
Sing it from the rooftops sister! Love this message. I’m mid-house purge and was feeling like it wasn’t enough. I think this is why. Holding on the things for my future self is really just setting myself up for failure and more guilt.
THANK YOU!!!.... if it's even possible, I would consider this video as *your BEST video ever* , because it truly will become an *eye-opener* to many of those who might be caught stuck because they try to find an answer to their "WHY SHOULD I GO FURTHER WITH MINIMISING ?* YOU JUST ANSWERED THIS QUESTION IN THE MOST CARING & LOVING WAY ❣❣❣ Much Love from Germany xoxox Martina
What a great message!! I hit the like button within the first 45 seconds of this video when you thought you were going to be losing people for its macabre message. We are NOT guaranteed tomorrow. When you clear out stuff that you don’t need, don’t use, no longer want, it also gives you perspective on future purchases, and it saves you a boatload of money!!
The older I get, the more minimal I want to be. Life can be so exhausting when we have family issues, health issues, finances, etc. that it comes to a point where I just don’t want to worry about anything extra, especially when it’s a material possession. I’ve never been a jealous person but at this point in my life I realize that I would much prefer the lifestyle of a minimalist than that of one with numerous, bigger, better and luxurious possessions.
Thank you for this video!! i hv started to declutter alot of my stuff recently. The feeling of being finally able to let go of these things that i hv kept for years is amazing! i feel soooo gd and happy!
Thank you so much for watching! Here are a couple links mentioned! The Silent To-Do List Video: ruclips.net/video/BtpAbdv4d98/видео.html

Muchas gracias. Thank you for sharing. We appreciate you. Blessings. =)
Thank you for caring so much! I started living a minimal lifestyle after discovering your channel… and my life has never been better ❤
You’ve pulled another one out of the hat Dawn, awesome content. Fumio Susaki’s book is one I keep rereading and would find hard to part with.
Enjoy Today! Thank you.
thanks Dawn I will check out his book!
I needed to see this video, thank you for sharing this
I was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and I’ve been so thankful that I already had a highly simplified home as I’ve faced my various treatments. If anything, it has encouraged me to go one step further, because it’s such a relief to have everyday life under control when you are thrown a curveball. Having a calm and relaxing home has meant a lot to me these last few months, as it has allowed me to focus on rest and healing.
Prayers for complete healing.
God Bless.
I walked that road 6 years ago. I'm praying for you right now. Rest in God...He's got you.❤🙏 Jane
oh i can not agree more! stage 4 lung cancer survivor here! have ing my home simplified made treatments easier to handle
Help this woman oh Lord. Heal her completely. ❤
“And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.””
Luke 12:15
thank you - reading this gave me a lightbulb moment; abundance isn’t about the things, it’s about inner abundance :) thank you!
I love that! Amen!
Thanks for sharing !
Amen

I do believe that owning less is freeing. I also believe that sometimes we obsess about getting rid of stuff to the point that it causes a lot of anxiety. There has to be a happy medium in there somewhere.🙂
I am at the beginning of my decluttering journey. I’ve completed one round of my entire house and I have started round 2. I can not believe how much my spending has been curbed. I actually had enough money leftover last payday that I was able to pay off two small credit cards. Thank you so much for making these videos you have changed my life. ❤❤❤
This is amazing, keep going!!
That's fantastic, congratulations. It really is like an onion, I do 'little layers' often and it keeps up the momentum, and helps me stay strong when people try to bring things I don't need into my house!
@@bleakaf Yes. It is like an onion!!! I have to stay strong and keep peeling.
Wow! Great job! The snowball effect will continue!! I’m on year 3 oh working at my house and just recently the difference in my life has been HUGE!
He didn’t know how some ideas resonate with people from other cultures😊
Goodbye Things had so many great practical decluttering tips as well as very important mindset for minimalism.
I love this so much!!!
You can do it! And you will love the difference later on with less visual clutter. My mental space is so much better now ❤
Hi! Another Aussie here. I hope you are progressing well and that all is going well with you, your baby and your older son.
WOW!!! This is incredible! Way to go!!!
@@TheMinimalMom thank you 😊
Dawn, I've been a silent viewer for a long time, but I just wanted to say that this video really gave a new meaning to your title of "The Minimal Mom." I felt very cared for and seen in this video in a way that I wish I had a long time ago.
@kristencarter1556 Amen 🙏 😊
@kristencarter1556 Well said! I was thinking exactly what you wrote in your last sentence. :) Amen.
Thank you for this! So encouraging!
Amen! Worrying about the future and things that could happen doesn’t show any faith in what God can do. He loves His children and He provides just what we need. We should let it go and trust that He will take care of our needs.
❤
@Monica-Brown I definitely agree on realizing how much $$ I’ve wasted. That was hard to get over.
I'm the same way. Just dropped off 10 cook books and 5 gardening books plus two bags of clothes I never wear. I feel lighter 😅
A good idea is a folder of new recipes [ from friends etc ] as
you never make everything in a cook book.
@@JustOneDress your style is RUDE
Love LLbean and Land’s End. I’m sure you look amazing!!
I was full of fantasy self ideas of making a business out of it but reality is, I don’t like the pressure of having to make a certain thing, I prefer the freedom of doing what I want creatively 😂
I’m 64 and I’m getting to the season where I just want to enjoy stuff, to relax, to meet friends and be free to have coffee/lunch, not have to produce something to sell or do.
when you say you really care about us I know you mean it! Your passion really shines that you are all about helping others.
I'm experiencing this right now! I've been pairing down the last 3.5 years. My husband is slowly joining.
So true!.Folks sometimes act like.minimalism is some extreme cult, yet most of our grandparents or great grandparents lived like that every day.
Such a good sentiment - “living with less means benefiting from less”! I will keep this in mind while I declutter today. Thank you, RUclips stranger!
Amen 🙏🥰
Agree 100%! : - )
@@goodenoughgirl8102 A beautiful story. Thanks for sharing.
I was also thinking that it is more of a “hippy” or bohemian or beatnik mindset and in this world that is sadly so often frowned upon.
Are you in Ontario?
@@JaneDoeDoeDeeOhDoe yes we are
You mentioned visual simplicity and that really resonates with me. I like a calming atmosphere - physically and mentally
THE LESS I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF, CLEAN OR MAINTAIN THE HAPPIER I AM!! Thank U Dawn!! U R one in a million and I’m glad I listened to U!!! ❤
I also envy your basement ❤ That would make me so happy!!!
Lol, THANK YOU!!!!!!
Got rid of the extra lids. Maybe I could start there. 😂
There's Dawn's comforting words ... and then there's Little Gage. Don't know which brings more joy!
I’m crafter/maker. I have lot of fabric, yarn etc, but other parts of my life and home are turning more and more minimalist.
Thank you, Dawn. You are absolutely right. I've been purging like crazy and it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted from my heart and mind. The future gets here so very quickly. Get rid of your stuff now and live Today 😊❤.
You are simply lovely! Thank you for all that you do to help folks. You truly inspire me and help me focus on what's important.
I know. When I think of the money I spent on STUFF and THINGS in which to store the STUFF....
When we lived in VA, deliberately living in the moment and appreciating today was the closest I ever felt to God. It was wonderful!
I'm praying for you and your husband, in the Name of Jesus
We started decluttering little by little and use stuff up. And not replacing stuff
Being a minimalist changed my life. The benefits are amazing and I wish this feeling on everyone!
This is so impactful. "What if we just have today?" I've never thought about that before. I LOVE this thought. It helps a TON!
You are onto something! With everything I get rid of that I don’t need it just brings more peace !❤
Amen to freedom, God bless you ❤️
Thank you! I feel like you’re a best friend ❤
Wow Dawn. Your thoughts in the beginning just hit a spot (as they often do).
I'm grateful for you and your advise ❤
I appreciate you pushing the envelope. Minimalism is what’s best for us and the environment.
I love these videos where you talk about all the benefits of decluttering and becoming minimalist. I also love the ones where you go beyond talking about things and explain minimizing life, ie gifting experiences instead of stuff, becoming unbusy, minimizing stress. You have changed my life with your videos and message. ❤
Yes, Yes, Yes, I agere Down 100%.
Love you Dawn, thank you for evetything!
Your videos have changed my life and the life of our family. Your pure-hearted work has been received, gratefully.
Impermanence is the nature of life. Thank you for your kind and caring words to reminds us.
Wonderful!! Thank you for inspiration. Your babies are so precious--those faces are so sweet! Glad you are enjoying right now.
I’m decluttering my home now. And starting to feel so much better.
Thanks. You have helped SO many people, Dawn. And still will over the coming years. Bless you all! ❤
Thanks for the beautiful encouragement!✨
This video and your advice align with Scripture.
Matthew 6:34 is “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Awesome sunrise!
So much truth in this. We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Thank you for validating what I've been thinking!
You always seem to know what I’m needing to hear so that I may have the courage to soldier on. Thank you 🙏
Good morning 🌞 I really enjoy your videos this one today so great thanks dear Dawn you are really amazing and you help me when I get overwelmed it makes sense have a lovely day thank you thank you ❤ Karen
I don't go overboard but I could never go to that degree of minamalism. Having beautiful art and color throughout my home feeds my soul.
I can’t
go completely minimalist, not that I can’t, I don’t want to. I have very little furniture,
very little on my walls and yes it’s so easy to keep clean. But when all my kids and
grandchildren or siblings come over I want enough dishes, towels, wash cloths and so for
everyone. But to each their own is what I say. I do fine with what I have, and good with it. ❤
There is a point where it starts to feel like sensory deprivation.
@lsteinke3987 surprisingly it frees your mind sometimes...no clutter...no distraction...and you awaken your senses to other things. But that's just me! ...and I do love art and colour...so I get it!
@@lsteinke3987 YES to sensory deprivation! It also evokes prison or poverty to me, but I get that some people like it.
This was so profound today. It struck a chord with me.
Thank you! ❤
The more I get rid of, the easier it is to breathe. I'm working on reducing more. Thanks for this!❤🙏Jane in SC
I just think you’re the best, Dawn! The sincerity of message is so pure and sweet! Thank you for all you do. You really are a light in this world! ❤
Dawn, you are so right. That's what I want. It's hard to do!
I love the simplified life! Thank you Dawn
Sing it from the rooftops sister! Love this message. I’m mid-house purge and was feeling like it wasn’t enough. I think this is why. Holding on the things for my future self is really just setting myself up for failure and more guilt.
Dont change please..everybody will want to convince you to different ideas..dont..always remember youre style is the best and has change our lives..
THANK YOU!!!.... if it's even possible, I would consider this video as *your BEST video ever* , because it truly will become an *eye-opener* to many of those who might be caught stuck because they try to find an answer to their "WHY SHOULD I GO FURTHER WITH MINIMISING ?*
YOU JUST ANSWERED THIS QUESTION IN THE MOST CARING & LOVING WAY ❣❣❣
Much Love from Germany xoxox
