    I just cannot believe how 99% of the signature sound of each engine is all in the firing order. It doesn't matter what sound each "pop" makes, when they are revved up it always sounds just like the engines we know. So amazing.

    • @robertmorrow4875

      Because engine sound relies on the crank

    • @agtronic
      @agtronic 3 года назад +11

      @@robertmorrow4875 I'd say it's the cam(s), the crank can be exactly the same but the firing order different. The cam and ignition determine the firing order. (Of course the crank has to put the piston at the right place.)

      It does matter what sound each pop makes though. each cylinder in these videos has a different "pop" tone based on the length of the exhaust headers of he real engine. That's the biggest factor to why these firing order videos have the signature sound of the real engine.

    Best sounding V8

    • @turboman2668
      @turboman2668 5 лет назад +17

      Thats near what almost any cross or flat plane crank v8 would sound like, if it had equal length runners going into an 8 to 1 collector. Regular exhaust systems tend to have exhaust pulse overlap, and gaps between exhaust stroke events, because of longer and shorter runners. Cross plane cranks have 1 then 2 full cycles per left and right banks at a time. So even if your headers were equal length going into an x pipe, the pipes between the collectors and the x would have a (1), (1,2), (1), (1,2) pulse of exhaust gass. A flat plane v8, like a Ferrari. Has a (1), (1), (1), (1) left to right exhaust pulse. The reason its the best sounding is because the exhaust sound in the video is even and in a row, just like a 8 into 1. Here is a link to a car that has almost perfect exhaust pulses. He did it a different way but with very similar results. ruclips.net/video/pG2TvSl8dRY/видео.html fast forward to 3:55 to hear it. And check out his other videos they are pretty cool!

      @@turboman2668 I found this out when I had a custom single exhaust made for my Australian Ford Fairlane with the 5.4 3V. The pipes of the two banks were equal length before they merged, giving even pulses like an 8 to 1 collector. I took it back and had one side lengthened and that gave the sound pulses from the two banks some timing separation and I now have the V8 (cross plane) sound. :)

      I don't know how I missed all these comments, the crossplane V8s I've heard with 8-1 or crossover headers haven't sounded like flatplane engines, not sure how much power difference they make. For a front engines car I would just go long primary 4-1s with a H pipe maybe.

    • @WilliamMoser
      @WilliamMoser  3 года назад +1

      Differences between my videos are down to setup differences, all crossplane V8s are LRLLRLRR.
      I don't think firing order changes make any difference to the sound of a real (crossplane V8) engine, an LS1 sounds very different to a late model Windsor for example and they have the same firing order once you transpose the cylinder numbers.

    this "ford HO" firing order is actually the same firing order as the cadillac, with the cylinders re-numbered haha

    • @SternLX
      @SternLX 3 года назад

      @@jimgoff1170 This is one of the reasons. More support on the rear main. Although it was a more of a "hey that benefits as well" reason. Back in the late 80's I asked a Regional Ford Tech Instructor why the 302HO switched to the first 351W firing order. Said the reason involved Cam shafts and availability from Cam grinders to Ford. Number a GM V8's cylinders the same as Ford does and watch the firing order match up. This order was originally engineered this way to lessen the amount of adjacent cylinders on the same bank from firing one after the other. Starting with the early model 351W with the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 they(Ford) noted they had fewer head gasket failures. Something GM had already figured out.
      So basically it all came down to the Cam shaft and head gaskets.
