I loved the extravaganza! Very helpful to know the differences between different products. And I know you need a break, lol, but one headset I just thought about that might be a nice comparison would be the SteelSeries against the Corsair HS80's (and no, I didn't read the comment above mine, lol!). Different price bracket, I know, but it would be nice to know anyway. Thank you for what you do and the time you put into this!
Thanks so much for your hard work. I just picked up the nova pro wireless and returned it but got the wired. I have the virtuoso xt and man the sound on the wired compared to the corsair is phenomenal. The details I hear with the nova pro wired is crazy. I guess I never knew what I was missing.
I had buyer's remorse and returned my wired Arctis Nova Pro's w/GameDAC. I have the OG Arctis Pro w/GameDAC and I swear, unless I'm an OCD Audiophile, I could NOT tell the difference between the 2 headsets using my personal custom EQ settings (in terms of sound and immersion). Plus $250 is quite a price tag for an upgrade. I say if you already own a pair of Arctis Pros w/GameDAC, it's not worth the extra $250. But that's just me. Thanks for the awesome review, Techne!!
This has been fun to watch Techne. I’ve never been able to stick with a Arctis because of the lack of height adjustment. These new ones fit much better. I think the wired version has a lot of advantages for me personally. Ability to change pads, no ANC nubs…no ANC nubs, better sound, $100 cheaper, no ANC nubs, better microphone, oh and no ANC nubs.
On the Wireless Pro, I upgraded to the Nova’s Wireless and had to return it because they took out the MixChat feature for PlayStation and that’s a huge flaw for me. the other 2 disappointments where the feeling of the new controls and the feel of the base, they both felt less premium than the OG. everything else I was very excited about, but unfortunately I went back to the OG and probably will wait for something else. Thanks for the review brother.
What a fun week. Thanks for putting all of this together, great-honest stuff. I've watched those videos so much, that I'm feeling annoyed by that metal noise-canceling thing, even without having the headset :D
I got the Nova Pro wireless yesterday coming from the Arctis Pro wireless and I think the sound quality has been far improved. The clarity coming out of the Nova Pro wireless is like something I've never heard before. they sound better than my Airpods Max imo. Really happy I upgraded.
Thanks so much for this video. I bought my original Arctis Pro wireless a couple years back because of your recommendation. Mine are still in great condition and i think ill hold off on upgrading. Thanks again for all the info.
The Nova Pro Saga comes to an end, great work! I still believe you can't go wrong with Steelseries Arctis headsets, old or new, they are well rounded and you can wear the heck out of them all day long.
With the base station for the new wireless it's nice that they gave it a slant for the screen to make it easier to read in most cases. Now if only the dial was at an angle too. Whenever you press the dial you have to hold the station to not push it back. Kind of a major oversight for something that is $350.
How about I can’t change Bluetooth volume on the wireless like I used to. Also can’t have the oled screen turn off after X time in settings. Can only dim
I loved my Arctis Pros. It was everything I wanted in a headset. Decent sound, great range and great versatility. But after 6 months of having them, both ear cups fractured where the headband connects. I tried everything I could to save them but I couldn't. Until Arctis resolves this issue, I will never own another.
After trying the Nova Pro Wireless and the original Pro Wireless, I prefer the original. The ANC nub was really annoying and they didn't feel as comfortable. I even tried the Hyper X Alpha wireless, Even though that one was more comfortable than the nova Pro's, It had an issue on PS5, where every few hours it would just disconnect, The sound was also really muddy on the Alpha's. I decided to just stick with the Pro Wireless that I already own and got the VZR headset to use in the meantime. Hopefully we get more comfortable options next year for wireless headsets.
Damn, The Penrose.. Fine audio quality. I suppose. Not really a difference from the Arctis Pro Wireless.. But what a incredibly bad connectivity, I needed to unplu and plug in my USB again and again, and again... Charge system is worse, And not for long gaming sessions. I have brought these headset back in a week and bought my Arctis pro's. Best decision I made!
And boom! The comparison ive been waiting for. I actually just asked for this comparison yesterday and expected an answer but you delivered a full comparison video instead. Dude you are a god send. Ill be staying with my original Wired pros for now until it either breaks or Steel series delivers something new thats mind blowing. Thankyou and god bless man! 🙌
They are a bit secretive about the DAC and how they prove the audio difference. It’s very hard to find any info about the chips and the differences. They don’t advertise it. They both play HiRes audio at the same sample rate so theoretically unless the sound difference is in the chip it’s being done via the software. Thank you for the honest video very few reviewers have done compared the old and new, much appreciated.
Thanks for the great video but there are some explanations that i want to do for you and others watching this video, you should’ve tested mic of the wired versions headsets because they’re much better then the wireless version, less noise + less compression + much more clear voice. you can notice it in the other videos like that you made like the the “steelseries arctis pro vs wireless” 11:00 & “WHAT VERSIONS SHOULD YOU BUY? Steelseries arctis nova wired VS Wirless” 3:11
I think the biggest point of interest is that my understanding is Arctis Pro Wireless needs an extractor for the Optical audio, whereas the Nova Pro Wireless uses usb. Or am I wrong?
Exactly the video I was waiting for. Love my current AWP especially with WC earpads. I’m a big tech nerd and was debating “upgrading “ but decided to wait for your videos Techne and you did not disappoint. I will be riding with the OG AWP until the hinges break, then I’ll update to the new ones. Thanks again and great vid as always
I have neither, but from wearing display models at my local PC stores, the old models are extremely comfortable. However, it seems they're more expensive than the newer models when I search for them. Any advice for this situation? Is it worth paying more for the older models?
I own both the wireless versions. I’m taking the new nova headset back to Best Buy. The nova version does have more bass like he says but not by a lot. I like using the sidetone function on my original headset, but for some reason I can not get it to work on the new nova headset. No matter what setting I put the sidetone at it all sounds like it’s off. I’m just happy with my original head set. One more thing with the new nova headset when you power off the headset the Bluetooth function stays on. You basically have to turn off the headset twice in order to fully power off the headset.
For me it’s the missing features from Arctis Pro to Nova Pro. I no longer can change Bluetooth volume. Chatmix sometimes work sometimes it doesn’t. I have to restart my dac. You can’t have the OLED turn off the screen anymore only able to dim it. Idk hoping just a firmware update will fix it
Glad I found a supper honest reviewer!!!! Thanks for the info. I have a brand new set of artic pro wireless and I was wanting to upgrade. But I will wear these out a Lil more before getting the nova wireless. Thanks
Main thing I’m gonna fine out is comfort. I don’t think most headphones are comfortable but the OG pro wired were so comfy and just broke on me after 4 years
I havent tried the new one yet, but I have had two pairs of the old pro wireless. I LOVE the headset so much, but with one major flaw for me and my big head. The spot you pointed out where the old pro looks like it want to break (where the metal hook meets the ear piece) has broken twice on me over time. My second pair hasn't completely broke yet technically, but there's a crack that has formed in the plastic right by where the metal meets the plastic and I know over time it'll snap. Probably not the case with people who have smaler heads than I do, but if you got a pretty big head, its something to keep in mind. Hopefully with the new ones having all plastic right there, there wont be as much presure on the plastic ear cups
This is something I was very curious about! I bought my old arctic wireless pros over a year ago and they're incredible! I appreciate you touching on this topic
Cheers Techne, such an awesome comparison of these new Nova’s, so much detail and hard work gone in to this mate really appreciate these reviews. Great refresher seeing our classics against a 2022 model. Can’t wait to see what the likes of Crosair, Audeze etc. do next. Well deserved break indeed 👍
Hey Techne. Love the channel man. LOVE IT. Exactly the kind of reviews I was looking for. I do have a question about the arms on the nova pro wireless. I have a set of the original Arctis Pro Wireless all of a sudden the mic is messed up. so I watched your video and then I bought a set of the Nova Pro Wireless. But I am seeing a lot of reviews where people say that the arm breaks. Do you think the build quality seems flimsy in that area. Is it something to worry about over time? Just wondering if you would comment on that.
Hi, I wanted to say that this was one of the videos I was looking for; it was great. Right now, I'm using my old, reliable Arctis Pro 7 wireless headset-they hold up great. However, I'm considering upgrading to a new version. I'm wondering, will the little mic inside the earpads of the Arctis Nova Pro wireless disturb me? I've heard from some other videos that not only does it cause discomfort, but in the long run, it can also apply hard and sometimes painfull pressure to the ear, causing discomfort with the mic on the inside of the earpad. Do you or anyone who alreday has the Arctis Nova Pro an opinion about this tiny detail?
Let me say Techne is my favorite reviewer on U Tube .After trying every headset known to man including the Astro a50's I settled on the A20 wireless from Astro. I have a big head and found these to be the most comfortable. The sound is plenty good for me. I had been using the Arctis 7 but got tired of the clumsy power button. Was able to buy a 2nd usb dongle so I can use these on my PS5 and PC with just one headset. Bought them refurbed at Amazon for 65 bucks.
hello, nice review, very complete and interesting. i have a question, actually i've got arctis5 and thinking upgrade to artis pro without gamedac, it is a worth upgrade to do it ? I'm think about in this serie because I really like the buttom options, mute buttom, and control volumen on heatset and the output line from headset that in my case i used to a in ear handset. i saw it for a sale to 150 usd. theres a better option in that price range ? my apologyce for my poor english :c
Re: the build - My point of break is exactly what you said - the plastic busted on my Arctis Pro wired right where the metal joint connects to the earpiece! But I loved these headphones for everything else so thank you for this video as I decide what to replace them with!
Great review I love watching them as I am a content creator and love having the edge over my opponents. Thank you for another banger of a review and helping me make a better choice in headsets
i have the old wireless pro the only thing that bothering me is the position of wheel of sound control in the back of headset ! when i lay my back while playing suddenly the volume goes up because it touches the pillow behind me ! this is reaaally bothering
Don’t let the negative comments get to you man after all my research and tech reviewers your the best one out of all of them I mean that don’t stop doing what you do
Thank you very much for this review it really helped me decide if I am going to buy the new arctis nova pro. As always! you did excellent on this review!
Questions that I still need answered that you never covered.. 1. Do you need to do a firmware update with the wired Nova Pro headset to use for Ps5 . ( I know there is one for PC.) 2. How does ChatMix work on the wired Nova Pro headset for PS5? I play FPS and I need to adjust chat volume on the fly so this is important. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! Thanks.
I did no firmware update to use my nova wired on PS5. There is no chat mix for PS5 on any headset unless you use a Sony headset. You can adjust it in the PlayStation settings if you are in a party. That’s your only option.
@@Juice_VI so when you plugged it into ur ps5 the DAC didn't say update firmware? Maybe the firmware update really is only for PC. Thanks for the help though.
I have money laying around and I’m upgrading. The new ones looks so much more cozy and more adjustable. The only Gripe I have about the old ones is the fit. New ones look much more cozy. Thanks Techne!
Be careful. Wireless has the microphone in ear cushion not flush. It might hit your ear. For me they’re uncomfortable but got them As a warranty replacement (they upgraded me). I really hope ear cushion replacements come out. Wired ones can be changed. Wireless at the moment none exist.
I had the old wired one it was good with one major flaw which is the plastic thing that hold the speakers broke off after few months of use 🤷🏻 I am tempted to get the new wireless one but I fear the same going to happen with it
So I had the Arctic Pro wired, and the housing of one of the cups broke on me, so as I was looking around, I found the Nova Pro Wireless at $250 on Best Buy. I think for the price point, they were worth it! I wish I had watched your reviews prior tho, but they still don't disappoint. I have loved them since and been more careful because of my last pair.
The only complaint I have with my Arctis Pro Wireless (old) is that it fades away the sound during a movie or game if there’s no speech (no person talking) and there’s only background music. Does anyone face this? i was thinking of upgrading to the Nova JUST BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE :/
What headsets are your everyday when you play Xbox series x?? I appreciate you and you have gave me so much knowledge about headsets! I never used them until I discovered you on RUclips and now I have 8 pair just in 2 months time! Ty very much
The Arctis Pros (wireless or wired, doesn't matter) are prone to breaking on the right cup, specifically at the connection point. You see it on the forums all the time and on Reddit; I've also had three pairs, treated them like gold and within six months, each pair developed a hairline crack (that started with a loud SNAP) from the connection point to the pad. The current pair is being held together with contact cement, and even THAT is failing under the pressure and turning white. SS needs to offer a version with at LEAST partially metal cups, but they never would, because their headsets would last too long. I never had this problem with the Siberia 650s, but those things were built to last. Only issue I ever had with those was the headset wiring disconnecting internally.
First thing I noticed with wireless one and transmitter you can’t charge the batteries all the time. It’s not powered by the wall, only the type c port in the desktop for me.
i have returned the actis pro last week because they're too small for my head and i ordered the nova pro wired the same day you reviewed them . and i m glad i did .
Black friday sale in Denmark. 200 euro for Arctis Pro and 225 for Arictics Nova Pro. Which ones? My only concern is that the leather on the Nova Pro will get too hot for the ears over time?
I was literally about to press buy on the new ones after two years of the Arctis Pro GameDAC (which are still as excellent as day one) & really - I'm glad I watched this. I used to be a sucker to upgrade everything to the latest & greatest, but losing my main business to Covid has made me re-think significant purchases - I don't think the jump warrants the big spend. In the same way my RTX 2080 4000 USD laptop doesn't need upgraded to or looking at specs my oneplus8 Pro isn't enormously different to a Samsung S22 Ultra. My rule now is any upgrade I make needs to be PS4-PS5 level of upgrade.
I currently have the Astros A50's and have been using it for many years. I just got a ps5 and I am heavily leaning towards getting the Arctis Nova Pro Wired headset. Although I will say I think the mic sounds better on the Astros. I will also miss the voice to chat mix I can adjust right from my headset in the middle of a game. Which leads me to 2 questions I have: 1. I hear about being able to adjust the chat voice to game sound mix using the base station on the Arctis "while" on PC. Can I do the same while playing on a console (ps5)? 2. Any eq and mic sound changes I do to the Arctis using the sonar software ....will those changes carry over when I use it on console?
You have completely wrecked the landscape of nova reveiws for other content creators. You were the first to exhaustively reveiw and compare this product with any talent. Even the slubbs that were sent the seel case for promo havent done the opportunity justice. Steelseries surely missed the mark not sending you the steel case. Il be purchasing mine this payday so I've been waiting for every reveiw to drop and havent seen near the likes of your videos. YOU GOT GG. I do wish we could see nova vs beoplay portal being that designers for bang and olufsen worked on the nova.
Got the upgrade because my bunny ate through my cord on my Arctis pro wired, I went with the Arctis Nova Pro Wired since the mic sounded better and you have a better frequency range almost 20,000 more on the wired vs the wireless, plus I don’t use the Bluetooth feature and my Xbox and PC both sit at my computer desk
Thanks for all the help with these videos, even though the decision is still tough when for instance the viruoso xt and the penrose have better audio sound. I had a broken pair of the wireless Astro A50 Gen 3’s. Bought the wireless Nova Pro, really wish I could handle a wired headset with my setup or I’d have bought the better set to save $100. Still pleased with my purchase and hopefully updates help make them even better. Do you think these are the second best WIRELESS headset AFTER the Penrose though, or does another set take that spot? Prefer the better/extra features, better wireless range, etc. the wireless Nova Pro has over the Penrose.
I'm worried that the new Arctis Nova Pro wireless won't sound as good in wireless mode vs the old Arctis Pro Wireless due to the ability to plug in Optical sound and still use them wireless. I'm wondering if you are able to obtain the same sound experience as optical with the new USB option? I have been running the optical port on PC as I feel it's a better experience than USB on the older Arctis Pro Wireless.. Would really appreciate some help if it's possible to obtain that nice optical sound experience on the new Arctis Nova Pro wireless with the Sonar software...
Thanks for the coverage and this video in particular! I've been trying to decide on whether to upgrade my broken and held together by gorilla glue wireless pros to the novas or not. While I've still not decided these videos have been a great help.
ive the arctis 7P for the PS5 rn and i need a seperate one for my pc so this release is perfect i guess.. but idk if i should go for the wireless or wired. i see a 150 price difference here tho
Honestly I think the best mic I have heard is Razer Blacksbark v2 Pro but the Steel Series doesn’t sound bad to me…🤷 The main appeal for me is customizing the sound on the GameDAC on the fly than anything else.
I have the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless and to be honest, the biggest update i was looking for was some sort of material lineing instead the battery change earcup compartment. As I would say 99% of people change the battery when they hear the beep with the headset on and just to hear that clacking and thumping when you changing the battery is annoying. I do enjoy the headset but the very minor differences isnt enough to upgrade, Im happy with the Wireless Pro.
Should i upgrade from the old wired arctis pro+dac to the new wireless? Does it worth it? From your review seems like the wired is a better version than the wireless. But I do wish to have a wireless headset. Should i buy back the old wireless version?
Thank you all that have came by for this extravaganza, is was so much fun, but I’m ready for a break 😂
I hope it was helpful, thanks again!!
You forgot to test the Corsair HS80’s vs the nova pro wireless 👀

I have a set of the original Arctis Pro Wireless all of a sudden the mic is messed up. so I watched your video and then I bought a set of the Nova Pro Wireless. But I am seeing a lot of reviews where people say that the arm breaks. Do you think the build quality seems flimsy in that area. Is it something to worry about over time? Just wondering if you would comment on that.
Just discovered your channel. You give great reviews. Just wish I saw this before I bought a game dac and headset.
I enjoyed every bit of this series. We appreciate the content.
I dont want this extravaganza to end! You should this more, its awesome!!
I’m still rocking Siberia 800s. Had them for 6 years and still sound amazing. How much better would these be ?
Literally the video I’ve been waiting on!
i have the old wireless pro the only thing that bothering me is the position of wheel of sound control in the back of headset ! when i lay my back while playing suddenly the volume goes up because it touches the pillow behind me ! this is reaaally bothering
Don’t let the negative comments get to you man after all my research and tech reviewers your the best one out of all of them I mean that don’t stop doing what you do
there couldnt possibly have been a better coverage for those headsets. thanks techne
We love you man!
I hope the channel grows and grows 👍
Nice Video man, my only complain is about the Battery on the OG Headset, its my daily driver since over two years now and it lasts about 16-20 hours.
Thank you very much for this review it really helped me decide if I am going to buy the new arctis nova pro. As always! you did excellent on this review!
Did you make a video of the 9x vs nova 7x? Also nice chair been shopping around for one and that's looking pretty good.
Questions that I still need answered that you never covered..
1. Do you need to do a firmware update with the wired Nova Pro headset to use for Ps5 . ( I know there is one for PC.)
2. How does ChatMix work on the wired Nova Pro headset for PS5? I play FPS and I need to adjust chat volume on the fly so this is important.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! Thanks.
@@Flymike_5 thanks. I appreciate that.
@@Juice_VI and at least you can manually adjust party chat volume, better than nothing.
@@Drake23x23 sure, no problem. No it didn’t say anything about updating the firmware. Works perfectly fine.
I have a huge head so I'm glad to see we get the swivel now. I loved the arctis bit it was simply too small. Gonna give the nova's a try 😊
For me they’re uncomfortable but got them
As a warranty replacement (they upgraded me). I really hope ear cushion replacements come out. Wired ones can be changed. Wireless at the moment none exist.
@@mannyfresh7065 I’m looking at the wired model
Does this mean that the OG Arctic Pros are definitely better than the Nova 7x?
Great job with all of these vids! Now on to everything in the Razer line, right??? ;)
I had the old wired one it was good with one major flaw which is the plastic thing that hold the speakers broke off after few months of use 🤷🏻 I am tempted to get the new wireless one but I fear the same going to happen with it
Use a T8 security torx to tighten the screws. Every one of my screws were loose. 1 missing
(9x)
So I had the Arctic Pro wired, and the housing of one of the cups broke on me, so as I was looking around, I found the Nova Pro Wireless at $250 on Best Buy. I think for the price point, they were worth it! I wish I had watched your reviews prior tho, but they still don't disappoint. I have loved them since and been more careful because of my last pair.
Same my artic pro right side just broke off, they really have bad build quality on de ogs,
Can I use the 3.5 in to hook up a Nintendo switch while the Xbox and the ps5 occupied the usb inputs???
The only complaint I have with my Arctis Pro Wireless (old) is that it fades away the sound during a movie or game if there’s no speech (no person talking) and there’s only background music. Does anyone face this? i was thinking of upgrading to the Nova JUST BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE :/
The nova pro mic definitely does sound a lot better on ps5 party chat idk about anything else tho on party chat is sounds great
What headsets are your everyday when you play Xbox series x??
I love my 7P+’s and got Wicked Cushions ear cuffs on the way tomorrow
First thing I noticed with wireless one and transmitter you can’t charge the batteries all the time. It’s not powered by the wall, only the type c port in the desktop for me.
thank you soooo much i was waiting for this since they released .
thanks man ❤
i have returned the actis pro last week because they're too small for my head and i ordered the nova pro wired the same day you reviewed them .
and i m glad i did .
Love the content... I would love to hear your thoughts on the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal headset as I still can't make my mind up yet... 😭
Depending on what your cpu is, ur laptop is probably faster than a ps5 already. A ps5 gpu is equivalent to a 2070 super. Apparently.
this was the actual video that I wanted more than anything else.
back here again sincei found out theres new headset from steelseries. thanks for the review!
Which leads me to 2 questions I have:
Hey tech would I notice a difference on running the pro wired (no Dac via 3.5) vs the nova wired?
I swear its like they knew alot of us arctis owners headsets are dying all around the same time 😂
You have completely wrecked the landscape of nova reveiws for other content creators.
That video helped out a bunch, thanks dude!
But does SteelSeries Arctis Pro will have ear pads replacement like those on Arctis 5 soon?
The Virtuoso XT's sound nowhere near as good as the Nova Pro's.
@@garethg8226 Yeah I agree, it’s not even close.
You absolute crazy person....go take a nap. You've earned it.
Last day of summer vacation vibes for this video.
Honestly I think the best mic I have heard is Razer Blacksbark v2 Pro but the Steel Series doesn’t sound bad to me…🤷
The main appeal for me is customizing the sound on the GameDAC on the fly than anything else.
Sei un Maestro, Grazie. Confronto eccellente 🔥👏
Penrose are great only problem I have is I can't pin point where sounds are coming from like the foot and shots it sounds the same all around me
I have the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless and to be honest, the biggest update i was looking for was some sort of material lineing instead the battery change earcup compartment.
