I find mono is suceptible to abrasion. I was very surprised recently after little use how abrasive the leader had got. Will be moving to fluro after seeing this vid. Thanks Senan
If find fluorocarbon great been using it 3 years never had it snap and by tying it yourself ye know quality terminal tackle. I use the canoe man's loop knot it's a beast and alot easier in cold weather but every to there own confidence is key. Great vid good to see lads looking after our pike stock.
Thanks David! Cool to see positive comments on the video, I was worried the “wire only” police would be out in full swing 😂 Videos like this are handy to do when the weathers foul outside, looking forward to the fishing this year though, can’t wait for spring 🙌
Crazy, they always have crap snaps and crimps also, I went through a lot of a certain companys brand leaders before doing this. Won’t name them but my god, there was a stage there when trolling I had to change leaders after nearly every big pike due to the force of the hit opening their poor quality clip ! Always use these clips now 🙌
@@senanstanleyfishing I do 90 percent of my fishing on the royal canal with big baits so never really had a problem with abu leaders but I can see why you need a decent leader when trolling. I just need a boat 🤔
Great vid lad and I think your right with the wire with lures breaking of when casting it's happend to me with good lures so now I make my own just like your doing thanks for the input God bless🎣👍
Thanks bud, I feel like a lot of the people who are against heavy fleuro are the guys who have never tried it 🙌 hopefully the info in this video might open up a few eyes to try new things 👌
i bought myself some savage gear 1.10mm monofilament there and ill see how it performs before i buy myself some flourocarbon since im a cub and its expensive
Senan great video as always. I ordered fluorocarbon and it seems to be gunsmoke blue colour I have ordered by mistake 🤦♂️. Should I send it back or will it do? Thanks
Good wee video Senan, I’m quite interested in using flouro this season. Some of the lads are using a Centauri knot these days so check that out , Eric 👍
Thank you for your be videos and in general I agree with fluro trace however I have noticed that the diameter of the fluro tends to reduce the action of the lure thus the catch rate as a result I have reverted to wire. Regards Leslie (Mayo)
Hi Leslie. Everyone’s opinion is more than welcome. ☺️👍 however for me, Fleuro is used by all top competitors across Europe in the biggest competition and tournaments for a big reason, it’s effective, wire is really a thing of the past with lure fishing, it does damage to pike when in the net when they spin it really tears into them and you can’t notice any nicks in the wire before it breaks, whereas with fleuro you can see wear and tear and change it long before it becomes a problem, that’s the main downside in my eyes. No right or wrongs though, definitely use what works best for you.
Thanks Pauric 🙏☺️ I hear ya 👌 i feel like the “wire only” anglers are the ones who have never actually tired fleuro, typically the old school deadbaiters 😂👌 keeping an open mind is key with fishing, and not knocking something until they try it 🙌
Great video Senan 👍🏼 I’ve always used wires traces but I keep saying I’d like to change over to fluro and I’m seeing a lot of people doing it lately, I’ll be giving it a go this season, so it was good to see this 🎣🐊
Thanks man 👌 it’s always cool to try new things, personally I don’t think Youl ever switch back once you try it, wire never shows it’s weaknesses before it breaks, whereas with fleuro, you can monitor the frayed like and get to it before it becomes a problem 👌🙏
Thanks Aaron 👌 im not sure about deadbaiting as the pike would have the deadbait inside it’s mouth for longer before the strike, I know some lads that have done it with no problem, but I haven’t done it myself ☺️👍 maybe with the 1.2mm fleuro, I’m sure it would be okay, but I don’t know yet if I’d use it for that 😎
Hi Senan, can i just ask what transducer pole you use for the fishfinder? Also is the transducer you have big/long? I'm looking at the hook reveal fishfinder and transducer is about 9" so don't know would it be ok on a pole or attach to boat instead?
Hey bud, I haven’t a clue what the brand is as I bought it ready made off a friend, the transducer on mine is compact it’s not the larger size, I’m not so sure really man. I’ve always wanted to mount mine on the back of my boat but i absolutely hate the idea of putting holes into my fibreglass, I’ve bad OCD I like things left the way they are 😂😂😂
@@senanstanleyfishing lol no bother Senan,i know the feeling,I'm finally going to invest on a fishfinder but the transducer is 9",so the thoughts of that on back of boat will give me sleeless nights lol, easy to damage I'd say..i will have a word with Michael Conway and see what he thinks..thanks Senan.
The size wouldn’t be a problem , I know loads of lads that use that fishfinder 👍 let me know what Mike says, if he wants to come down for a day to mount both of ours properly it would be even better 😂😂 there very easy to make a mess of if not done right, my brother drilled too much in his and now theres a few filled holes 😂

diameter is not going to change anything. a sharp object made out of a hard material (pike teeth) will cut throught a object made of a soft material (fluro leader) that reality wont be magically changed by changing the diameter
@@Pheasantflies still wont offer any additional protection unfortunatly. all fluros more or less have the same material properties, and thus the same lack of resistance to pike teeth. Yes there is some difference but it is minimal.
Hey bud ☺️ Have you fished with fleurocarbon or just assuming this? Because I’ve been using it for years, lots of time in use, and never an issue. Give it a go first, you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks Senan..will give this a try for sure.
Thanks Kieran , always nice to try new things 😎👍
Thanks mate, I really needed this!
Thanks Senan for the tip will come in handy in the future 👍
Thanks for watching Daniel I’m glad you enjoyed 👌
Great job Senan, this video answers my question in a former video .

Thanks for the video Senan, going to pick up the few bits soon and start making my own, hopefully the weather picks up soon 😆
Sound James , making up leaders and organising is the only thing to do when the weathers this poor 😢😂👌
I bought a trace Saturday, 2nd cast on Sunday it opened on me and dropped a lure. Crimp wasn't tight. Lesson learned.
The shop bought traces are disasters waiting to happen 🙏🎣
Great video Senan!
Im from Sweden and i will make sure to tie my own leaders from now on, it will save me loads of money.
Thanks!
Glad to hear it 😎👍

Hi William, I would send it back and get the clear fleurocarbon. ☺️👍 savage gear do one called “soft fleurocarbon” 105lb is good.
@@senanstanleyfishing thank you gonna give fluorocarbon a go so best to have the right stuff. Keep the beast videos coming!

Does it matter if you use soft or hard fluorocarbon for the leaders
I’d imagine soft would be easier to knot, I’ve never noticed a huge difference in either 😅

it's a clinch knot, am I right?
Yep basically a simple 2 turn clinch knot, pulled nice and tight with the 1mm line, really easy to do
