Finally!...A guy that can speak understandable English that REALLY knows his stuff!! Keep the Solidworks videos coming!

I am good at faking it!

It's not so much the language issue for me with the, ahem, other tutors. It's the fact that he explains what is being done and why it is being done rather than just going through a series of unexplained steps one at a time.
As far as Richard's English goes, I'll toast it with a Cordial, while gleefully shouting " CO-radial!" :)

Though I've muddled my way through Solidworks for some time now, I'm finding going back to the beginnng with these videos really helpful. I feel like I'm doing things the "right" way now. Your emphasis on defining elements relative to one another has been very helpful.

I appreciate the inside tips for after designing work as far as the limitations in actual manufacturing. Other Solidworks tutorials don't have any knowledge what goes on in the machining world. Thanks!

I noticed that language issue as well. In addition, their complex bicycle and other designs don’t exactly teach you what you really need or want to know.

Thanks for all the tips. You can also easily move the part by holding the mouse wheel down and moving the mouse.

I find using the mouse to control the object to be very slow compared to a 3D mouse.

Brilliant - I bought a (second hand) 3DConnection SpacePilot only the other day - Glad to know you approve of them Rich!!

I don't know how people use CAD software without a 3D mouse.

@@InventionTherapy I'd happily used AutoCAD for +15 years with a standard mouse, but that was mainly for 2D. However one of the things I was finding akward with learning solidworks was manipulating the views, so I googled it, and the SpaceMouse was mentioned in a few threads. I guess a 3D mouse, makes sense for 3D works!! I've also a (cheap/second hand) Wacom drawing pad on order too.... I'll let you know know how I get on with them both.

I find the regular mouse more useful than a Wacom. Most of my designs are done while traveling so a second screen comes more in handy along with the 3D mouse. The second screen lets me open up drawings and use Google while desiging. I sort of have it down to a nice compact setup so I can use it anywhere I go.

Great tutorial!! Did you notice when you did the first "mirror" and selected Boss 2, Fillets_2 and Tapped_Hole1 (12:20), it executed the mirroring ok except for one fillet? Why?...may be thats the reason why then it didn't let you apply the second mirror...¿?.

Sorry, I don’t teach 3DS Max or Rhino.

But i find it really usefull cause now i’m focused on Inventor that uses basically same exact tools!!

@@MarcoLucifora Except, everyone uses Fusion 360 now. Inventor is similar but even I now need to learn and teach Fusion. It is very popular because it is free and also creates very complex and fast cutting CNC paths.

Why not use the Shell comand to make that cut (3:52)?

    • @InventionTherapy
      @InventionTherapy  5 лет назад +3

Because we haven’t gotten to that lesson. In addition, I tend to use shell on more complex shapes. A simple cut is easier to control when there are some other features that may cause the shell to keep the same wall thickness where you may not want it.
There are a million ways to accomplish the same things in Solidworks so it doesn’t really matter how we do it as long as it works!
