    Big News: Since the making of this video, Kings Dominion has announced year round operations! they’ll now be operating every month of the year.

    My first visit here in 2008 wasn't the best as we went on a summer saturday in July and they were incredibly packed with long lines everywhere including the waterpark and everything broke down near the end of the day which was a shame. Then I went back in 2013 and it was a complete 180 as the operations were perfect, everything was open with short lines and was able to do everything easily before the day was over. It's now my third favorite Cedar Fair park behind Kings Island and Cedar Point and I can't wait to return one year.

    KD has a great one two punch. I think KD needs something like a raptor or floater airtime coaster to have a stand out park

      Honestly they need more of a GP pleaser because I305 and Twisted Timbers are great rides but are definitely geared more towards the enthusiasts.

    Intimidator 305 with a fully loaded train is absolutely insane, and it feels like Skyrush but better in every way. Twisted Timbers is a fantastic airtime machine with the strongest airtime I have ever experienced. Kings Dominion is a really pretty park, and it has the potential to be better than Hersheypark, but beyond the top 3-4 coasters, all the other coasters are either boring or rough.

      @@jasonb5161 When it has a full train, those two hills deliver some great sustained ejector airtime, but when I got a zen ride in the morning, they did absolutely nothing.

    This park is really special to me. I rarely go on roller coasters because my family doesn't like them and I live in Idaho, so this was the first amusement park (other than disneyland and universal). I went in June this year and I think it was one of the best days I had in my life. It was perfect, the park was super empty because of predicted bad weather (however it only rained for an hour total) and everything was a station wait. I got to marathon TT twice and I305 and I truly don't remember feeling that happy before it. That day was also very memorable because of all of my firsts: first b&m, arrow looper, giga coaster, rmc, woodie, and so much more. I also really enjoyed Anaconda and Backlot, surprisingly. Since I hardly go to any amusement parks at all, I'm very lucky to have gone to this park because it was an amazing experience that I'll never forget.

    4:00 I know this may be hard to believe but I got some Ejector on Grizzly. Yes it is kind of painful, but I don't think its as bad most people make it. I personally enjoy all coasters I've gotten the chance to ride at Kings Dominion. Edit: 5:01 I also don't see the hate with Anaconda, my lost ride this year in fact, I got no, 0 head banging, and it was ehh in smoothness, but super fun!

    I’m in the NOVA area to KD is closest to me and we go at least once a month (HP would be an additional 30 minutes). Unfortunately I haven’t been to any of the other parks to compare it. However I love the amount of trees in the area and when you’re on the coasters and you get to see everything, it’s magical. Yeah the trees really sell this park for me, I would hate being on a coaster and seeing a city at the top.
    Also that mac & cheese bowl is gone it’s been replaced by a taco shop about a month ago. It’s just basic, but if you looking for something quick it gets the job done.

  • @zacg_
    @zacg_ Год назад +2

    I have mixed feelings about KD. It's currently one of my home parks but I had visited Kings Island prior to moving to Virginia or visiting KD and I just feel like this is an inadequate little sister park to KI. Don't get me wrong. The top two at KD is undeniably fantastic and the trees offer a nice atmosphere. And the water park is pretty good (though no where near as good as Water Country USA.)
    But I would take BGW any day over KD. Same is true for Hersheypark over KD. I personally rank Pantheon above I305 and TT but that's not really the reason. I just find that the overall package and experience at BGW is on a totally different level. The food, the shows, the theming, the atmosphere and the shops are all significantly better at BGW than at KD. And while KD has more coasters, I think the average quality of the coasters at BGW is superior. Also, as a dad with little kids I find KD to run their kiddie areas very poorly. That's especially true when compared to the kiddie areas at KI or the myriad kiddie areas at BGW.
    Don't get me wrong. KD is fun and has some great rides. And the atmosphere is generally very good in most areas compared to a midlevel Cedar Fair or most Six Flags parks. But I guess I'm just not on the hype train.

    I visited in Summer 2021 and I loved this park. I just loved the atmosphere and the way the park was run was great as well. I don’t remember any negative part of the day I went and so I had an absolute blast. Really awesome park and that was even before Jungle Expedition. Also Flight of Fear gets way too much hate.

    Great review! I just wanted to comment that The Mac Bowl has been replaced by the Taco Shack recently and Kings Dominion is starting year round operation this year. I personally prefer Grizzly to Dominator for it's more agressive ride experience, but I can respect the #3 placement for Dominator.

    • @CoasterDash
      @CoasterDash  Год назад +2

      Thanks for letting me know! The removal of the Mac Bowl is a bit unfortunate, especially given how new it is, but it doesn’t hurt the park’s food lineup in totality.

      @@CoasterDash I agree. I never got to try it. I think you may be able to get tacos at Border Burrito too, so I think I would've preferred it if they just kept The Mac Bowl. The tacos do look pretty good though. Grain and grill is awesome, and Outpost Cafe looks great too. Kings Dominion has really good food for an amusement park.

    • @ralphwaggoner208

      @@CoasterDash as stated, Mac bowl was replaced by a taco stand, I didn't go to the taco stand, so I can't speak to if it was good or not, as it wasn't replaced until during Haunt.
      But do not miss out on Outpost Cafe. I actually preferred it slightly to Grain & Grill, depending on what I was in the mood for.
      And since you mentioned Grizzly being rough, I guess I can mention the entire ride is being retracked. The crest of the lift hill was just gone, and the entire fan turn had no track on my last visit. I am curious if it's going to be done in-house or will CF have someone come in and do it like the Beast at KI.

    I love Kings Dominion. It was the place that honored my grandpa. Growing up, he loved NASCAR. And when he died in 2020, it didn't take me long to figure out what would be the perfect coaster in honor of his milestone of 1 year in heaven. I love Intimidator 305 to, like, 967,995,938 pieces and more so than Steel Vengeance, which that coaster isn't overrated at all. This is an awesome review, Marc. But I thought you'd think Zadra is better because in the vlog you rode Zadra, the thumbnail included "Is this the greatest coaster in the world?!" which make me think you'd like it more than Intimidator 305. Why do you like Intimidator 305 more than Zadra?
