I've been analyzing both NJ & Illit and while they both exist in a 2000s space they musically are different based on synth and production choices. NJ favor more atmospheric sounds like clapping or synths that are based on 'real world' sounds - think the musical 'stomp' - while Illit favors a more completely computer generated artificial sound more akin to chip-tune music. Likewise, both groups follow those concept in imagery too. NJ girls are more the girls living in the 2000s while Illit are more like a geocities website come to life.
Plenty of room for both.
Agree musically quite different and I love both But when you see their image and choreo it’s copy pasta period.
@@KingKikikoi image is close but still different. NJ is more Y2k but ILLIT is more dreamlike inspired too. its not copy pasta. Copy pasta means a block of text copied and pasted to the Internet and social media. so you copy and paste. even the reactors talk the similarities of music and differences. it just happen that both group is on one Umbrella.
ILLIT's concept revovle around MAGIC,dreamcorexbabydollcore as you can see in the visual the emphasis of magic & the bubblgum sweet undertone of the visual (they have unicorn for goodness sake)while nj is very y2k core international teen girlies vibe. How is MAGNETIC even close to Attention or ETA? 🤦 honestly ILLITS concept is more near to OH MY GIRL "closer".
This is only ILLIT’s debut so too soon to say. 1st comeback for groups are always more important than the debut, it’ll set the stage
@@KingKikikoi i think they are similar in these 3 aspects and it shows clear, the problem is they hare under the same company, thats speaks a lot obout hybe and belief creative teams.
This song has quite the addicting hook, think it'll be stuck with me for the whole day.
Side note: I really hope these guys get to check out Maestro by Seventeen in a future video. Think there'd be some good appreciation for it.

I hadn’t actually seen the music video before.. it reminds me a lot of New Jeans, Red Velvet, and TXT. But like.. in the best way. I love those groups already. The song’s so addictive and the key dance makes you want to learn the choreo as well!
I definitely getting like early Red Velvet...sound was giving Russian Roulette in the best way.

thing is they're under newjeans' label... it's like they're getting a newjeans 2.0 so that Min Heejin's group, the only hybe group that wasn't created with Bang Sihyuk's participation, can be put to the side. it's no wonder hybe invested so much in spotify playlisting and autoplay, after all their investment for illit's debut was 150 billion won, while newjeans only got 16 billion.

@@romi-ok4tsbut you also know the girls of NJ got paid 5M each after debut and Hybe additionally pays for their dorm in Gangnam. Also, they began to be brand ambassador in their first year of debut. You know that kind of projects cannot be obtained by a small company, that was all Hybe. We need to take in consideration de fact that NJ was promoted as "BTS little sisters" but now all of the sudden they are not Hybe, they are Ador. If Hybe gives MHJ the 80% shares they have of Ador, NJ will not have the same producers nor the budget for future albums.
MHJ says that NJ is all her ideas, then I guess making another group wouldn't be an issue for her since she is so good at making concepts .....but that's not gonna happened, is more than obvious.

Loona, some WJSN and some early red-side Red Velvet like Russian Roulette. The only thing that gives me New Jeans is the hairstyles, formations because 5 members and an editorial feel (which makes sense as Illit's creative director was a fashion editorial director for kpop artists).

It was nice to see an independent, unrelated review of this song, even with the slight comparison of the two groups. As someone who doesn't really pay attention to either group (or any girl group, actually), but who is really angry about the nastiness that MHJ's revolt (likely a paltry term for what she's doing, but...) is causing towards multiple innocent groups, this was helpful.
Realistically what are the words of 1 woman going to do compared to the mediaplay and manipulation of a multi trillion dollar entertainment company lmao. Funny how western fans hold completely different opinions about the HYBE vs ADOR situation, it’s as if you guys don’t understand cultural/social nuance. She’s paid the most of any HYBE executive, they created a label for her when Source wasn’t enough for her, and they gave into every contractual demand she made except the two designed (by her) to give her full control of a label she neither created nor funded. Bang PD even personally loaned her the money to buy the 18% stock holding that she has. If knetz think all of that is misogyny, then I don’t know what to tell them. Most people define misogyny as the exact opposite of all that. 🤷🏻♀️
@@bt_vkagksl It's also that NJNS aesthetic isn't anything new to western people bc not only do so many live in the heart of the Y2K resurgence, we were seeing Y2K themed artists BEFORE New Jeans and some lived in the heart of the fashion trends IN the 2000s. MHJ's claims that Illit is copying New Jeans are bullshit.
Illit's sound is a completely different style to New Jeans and the only thing they have in common is a Y2K inspiration and it's not surprising at all that a new group would debut with a concept that's popular even within the same company, which other companies do all the time with no issue.
And people need to pick a story. Is MHJ just one poor woman with no choice but to fight against the evil HYBE to protect her band or is she this creative genius that HYBE can't do anything against because she's majority shareholder of Ador and New Jeans wouldn't function without her?
I don't even LIKE HYBE but you can't pretend MHJ didn't make a mountain out of a molehill and then cry victim when things didn't go her way.

Personally I enjoy the song and I don’t find too much similarities on the music, but the creative direction/photo shoot etc. is really similar
It makes sense when you realize that New Jeans is more editorial and Illit's creative director was a fashion director for editorial shoots with kpop artists before being hired by Belift and working on some Enhypen concepts. She has an editorial style that existed pre New Jeans. With her portfolio, I think it'd be very weird for her to outright copy New Jeans with intent. I think she just dud her thing and it happens to look similar - probably not helped by being the same number of members.

i like magnetic in think the best creative aspects on the song where the chiptune add and some of the entris, the arpegio is really nice to begin (even if belief copy mhj in this)
my only problem whit the song and the ep is how similar is to nj, i get it very 2000's influece in both, but they are on the same company, its a little odd.
hope the next album belief do a better job making a personal sound for the group and a different sound, they need to keep the chiptune there!

There are...7 boy groups at Hybe? Do they have no overlap? Why can't there be similar groups under one label? Blackpink and Baby Monster are under the same label and they are way more similar in sound, concept and identity than New Jeans and Illit.

This synth sound has been around forever with the likes of Shawn Wasabi, Kero Kero Bonito, Moe Shop, and any kawaii/anime-core convention DJ or weeaboo with fruity loop mixer. Truth be told I’m not entirely sure where to pinpoint the origin of this sound, but it’s somewhere in that miasma born between 2009-2014 anime conventions lol. I’ve been celebrating this TREND in kpop bc it’s a sound I looooove and I’m glad it’s back and being innovated on. Please do not attribute this style of synth and song to NJ. Edit To Add, Newjeans (or more specifically a song engineer who also likes that genre of music) has created a trend of bringing this sound back. I will concede that, but they didn’t invent it pls
Styling of the girls? Sure, very new jeans, but that’s more a symptom of them being the IT Girls of the moment. Remember when Hwasa sold out beef tripe? There’s a twice-ification of jpop right now that is probably about to move to the new jeans trend. They’re trendsetters, and the industry demands artists and consumers follow the trends which is very whack, but it’s not something to tear down other GG for. It’s because the shareholders said it’s profitable.

this is such a complex yet catchy song with 3 sequences in the chorus and post chorus. somehow the song just worked with crazy beat tempo switch in between. the troubling part is this could be the next one hit wonder like cupid by fiftyfifty. arguably best debut song though.
