@bartosullivan8050 he never said it was a dam. He mentioned that the dam (man made) impressively withheld more water that what flows over Niagara Falls. Damn and Dam aren't the same
Why has this dam not been replaced with a more modern design with spillway gates in the bottom or middle of the dam or retrofitted with spillway gates in the middle or bottom of the dam for more effective flood control? News station why dont you ask tva excutives this question? They are at fault here. I wouldn't call this a dam at all. That one gate at the top does nothing to prevent the water from toppling over the dam like it did and causing catastrophic damage and loss of life downstream. Tva should be ashamed and sued for not replacing or retrofitting this dam a long time ago. This thing is basically a bathtub waiting to overflow like it did this weekend. It does nothing to protect downstream with effective controlled water release. If it did, this catastrophe wouldn't have happened and people wouldn't be dead. All of these types of dams with little or ineffective water control need to be replaced now. We can afford to send billions to everyone else, but our countries infrastructure remains old and ineffective. Inexcusable.
Over 100 years old and stood up to 1.3 million gallons per sec. Double the peak flow of Niagara Damn good engineering
Niagara is not a damn, it's a waterfall.

They know these dams failed ...
It is doing its job.
Don’t turn your back just because someone says it’s safe, that’s when bad things happen

sry, we spend all our money on foreign wars.
The dam is not there to protect people, but to make electricity. That is the job of the TVA.
Thats av failure
