It's interesting. Stuff like this, quiet little moments of everyday life that no one ever considers to be important enough to film, are the real backbone of realism. I did similar things with people for a while, but then they told me I was "invading their privacy." By taking this field, and putting it up on the screen, people will really look at it in a way they wouldn't in real life. By making it a video rather than a still, they will contemplate the image for the full fifty-six seconds.

The mailboxes know better than to try to trick you with a jump scare. Their master plan is far too ingenious for such simple trifles. The mailboxes are better at psychological warfare than you could ever know.
*"Closer?"* The warm afternoon air rushes past your face as you follow the small, two-lane road. Your breath comes in gasps, short, ragged and desperate. For the moment, all you can hear is the chirp of cicadas and the sharp pop of gravel underfoot. You pause at the side of the road, taking a moment to allow your heart to slow, to process the past ten minutes. The roadside field before you stretches out towards a short stand of trees, and looking at the summer horizon in front of you it's hard to tell that anything is wrong at all. You don't want to look back, back at the horizon in the direction you came from. You know exactly what you'll see-a distant plume of smoke wafting lazily into the sky, painting a haze of grey across the vista of blue and white. You escaped their presence, you're avoiding looking back, but you can't escape their sound. Even the cicadas can't drown it out, not totally. A faint, ominous hum. Still, you face forward, not looking at that streak of smoke back the way you came, and try to ignore the audible reminder of your narrow escape. Is it just you, or is the sound getting... closer?
I can hear the sounds of what seems to be a large anti-ballistic missile flying over head. I couldn't tell the make because it's been a long time since I worked in the missile factory in Siberia.
