Saagar says: "If they had free and fair elections, I guarantee you Islamists would still win".
Yet both Iran and Afghanistan had secular governments before the current ones, which have been a result of Western interventionism.
Also, women covering up in burkas is more of a cultural custom than religious. And who says the governments of Qatar or Saudia Arabia are the 'models' of Islamic government? Anyone can see that the Arab states are ruthless dictatorships that only care about maintaining power and they use religion as a means to this end.
I tend to agree with Saagar, but that fact that he gets irritated seems to reveal an underlying bias at play.
And honestly, that's all good, we all have our biases. It's just that we should learn to separate fact from propaganda that is sprouted by our governments/media (Richard Dawkins being one of them) to create strife amongst us.

The prior secular regimes in Iran and Afghanistan were both forcefully installed by Western powers, and neither were functioning electoral democracies. In opposition to the West, the Islamic popular revolution of 1978 overthrew the Shah in Iran, and the Taliban (who the US kicked out in its 2001 invasion) retook Afghanistan in 2021 after American troops left.
When free elections have been held in certain Muslim countries, Islamist parties have indeed won. Just look at the FIS in Algeria and Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, for example. In both these cases, internal military forces allied with western powers intervened to eliminate the elected parties (who were fundamentalist Muslims supported by the people). The reality is, in many Muslim majority countries, Islamists are highly likely to come to power should free and fair elections be held.
I don’t think that Sagar is an expert on Islam or the Islamic world, but I think that that statement is justifiable and does not come from mere bias.
Also, with respect to burkas being more of a cultural phenomenon than a religious one, it is true that there is ample disagreement whether or not full body coverings for women is required in Islam. What the vast majority of Islamic scholars agree on is that the covering of the hair and bosom of women with a garment is fardh (a religious requirement) - this is supported by several verses from both the Quran and Ahadith and upheld by all four madhabs (schools of Islamic jurisprudence).

The only one that seems to actually get irrationally irritated here is Krystal, which cannot comprehend the idea that recognizing the regressive and patriarchal attitudes prevalent in Muslim countries (both culturally and religiously) doesn't necessitate you coming to racist conclusions about primitiveness or barbarity.
Also, as someone familiar with the Middle East and Islam, I am sorry but most of the points you raised seem to sound like the standard Western liberal cope used to deflect any criticism from homegrown patriarchy and religious fundamentalism that exists in many Muslim countries regardless of Western involvement.
To suggest a country like Afghanistan would naturally elect a secular liberal democracy given the chance, and that the only reason they are today fully controlled by one of the most backwards extreme Islamist puritanical theocracies around the world is because of US meddling, is quite ridiculous.
That's not justify any of the US incredible mishandlings of foreign policy and meddling in the Middle East. But at worst, US engagement assisted in amplifying regressive cultural/religious elements that already existed in that region. But to suggest that something as consequential to Afghanistan today as the Taliban was wholly a result of specifically American design is ridiculous (yes even if we recognize that US militarily backed Mujahedeen in the 1980's).

Totally distorted and biased view, the narrative (that Muslims are being lynched in India) was done by Islamists themselves. The actual unfortunate and tragic numbers are less than 10. All of them were smuggling beef illegally through a state (UP) that has a ban on selling beef. Out of the 200 mil Muslim population in India, a very few unfortunate events happened. Burka/niqab are not explicitly commanded by Muhammad in the hadiths, but to claim they're some cultural phenomenon completely seperate from the religion as if it was some alien innovation is completely disingenuous.
First, some scholars do suggest it or encourage it, however much some would consider them fundamentalist.
Second, one can't ignore the plethora of other oppressive and repressive attitudes and policies towards women in Islam and muslim societies, that have the logical feedback loop of encouraging further excess of fundamentalism in taking the "safe bet" of fully covering, because gender situation is already so segregated and how dangerous it still is in many regions to lead an independent and free lifestyle as a woman.
Also, how is some anecdotal instances of electing women in recent decades any relevant? Forget for a moment that even the opportunity to those elections and democratic systems were brought about thanks to the West, in the pre-modern world there was almost NEVER an instance of a female ruler in traditionally Islamic lands. The ruler was almost always a male dynastic monarch who almost universally wed himself to multiple if not tens to hundreds of wives and concubines.

I've been an atheist/agnostic longer than either Krystal or Saagar have been alive. I've read Dawkins, and for awhile was under the "leadership" of his foundation after, with his foundation, essentially took over the Center for Inquiry. His arrogance in that merger led to the departure or sacking of a lot of good people, and many of us from CFI left. His foundation is very top-down, doesn't want local chapters, especially ones with paid staff, and I'm not unhappy with parting ways with them. He can be more than a bit of an ass and full of himself.

India is becoming a religiously intolerant and fanatic state, with rampant discrimination and violence against Muslims highlighting severe human rights abuses. In this context, Sagar’s focus on Muslims becoming more religious and their internal debates over divorce laws, rather than addressing the broader intolerance, suggests a bias likely rooted in prejudiced influences inherited from his background. Additionally, he expresses disdain for Qatar, yet paradoxically lauds India's religiously fanatic government. This hypocrisy ignores the fact that millions of Hindu Indians migrate to Qatar in search of a better livelihood, a reality that starkly contrasts with his glorification of India, which fails to provide the basics for its citizens, yet somehow is portrayed as superior and on the same level as Japan? Simply outrageous. He is catering to a Western audience that is not informed of these details, which makes his approach blatantly disingenuous. But the nature of the internet means maintaining hypocrisy is challenging, especially with a significant Muslim viewership attracted by his channel's commendable coverage of Palestine and the work by Krystal. I, and likely many others, find Sagar's covert racism deeply unsettling.

Well said! Just to add Sagar talks about living in Qatar and seeing women in burqas walking behind the man. How did he know these women were married to this man. It could be a brother or a relative. Islam doesn't have a law for women to wear burqas. Islam says a woman should wear modest clothes and cover their hair with hijab. Burqas is cultural traditions in some minority Muslim communities and so what if they wear burqas? Live and let live! people can practice their believes and customs as they wish! Similarly Amish people in the states have their own traditions and communities and don't fit into the main stream American culture. 95% of muslim women don't wear burqas and most muslim countries have diverse types of people including westerners who live there and are respected and accepted.

The natural inclination to guilt any wrongdoing that happens between those 1.8 billion people on islam is false, imagine if we did the same for christian countries? we are talking about a number of different cultures and races with different economical situations. To have islam as a scapegoat only hurts the religion which many people care about. those who dont care about islam or refuse to see the good in it find that getting rid of it is a net zero or plus… in their minds its not a minus.

Make a column of passages that endorse humanism/charity/respect for women and another that supports authoritarianism/violence/misogyny. Contrast and compare. The Bible is much longer but on the whole if you do this fairly, you'll find no difference. Read the one column and see the utopian society that could emerge on the basis of either text. Read the other and it sounds like hell on earth to me based on either religious doctrine. Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens cherry pick these texts to support their white, European perspectives.

Christians stopped observing their religion leading to these developments. So, no. It's not "I'd rather live in a christian country than in a muslim country." What Saagar is saying, is "I'd rather live in a secular/godless society than a religious country." European cultures which date back to the Greeks, Romans, and tribes of northern Europe. Christianity has also had an impact, but it it's nowhere near the absolute source of all morality that Christians want us to believe it is. People's moral values come from culture as a whole which itself is the result of what humans innately feel as a species and what we realize is necessary to live in a society that provides for our happiness - with order and justice and manners etc - with various random bits mixed in that are more arbitrary and superficial like which hand gestures you use to greet or insult someone.
You should also ask where religions get their moral ideas from. Much of it is based on the same things - practical need and observing what keeps order. Unfortunately one of the thigns that makes religions dangerous though is that they are dictated by a single person (like Muhammad) or small group (like the priestly class in ancient Israel/Judea) which leads to rather warped extreme positions and personal tastes becoming moral doctrine for an entire society.

There was a secular socialist movement in the Arab world that peaked the 60s & 70s that naturally aligned itself with communism. Of course at the peak of the cold war America was very concerned with the red wave and propped up regimes and ideologies that countered this secular movement, aka ones with a more religious conservative ideology, which served as the root of many extremist movements later on, or in some cases (Shah of Iran) their intervention and attempts to install puppet leaders have lead to the opposite reaction.

Sagaar's interpretation is rather silly, acting like US imperialism has no impact on people's lives. It's a very simple connection: The US is (rightfully) seen as a force of evil in that part of the world and any resistance to US imperialism is welcomed with open arms. It just so happens that the people who resist US imperialism most (at least in rhetoric) are some of the more fanatical groups. If you create that window for anyone, then after years of dealing with puppet governments, of course they'll fall into the arms of extremists.
