  • Hey there, DIY enthusiasts! Welcome back to our channel. Today, we're bringing you a step-by-step guide on pouring and shuttering a concrete countertop.
First things first, you'll need to prepare your form. Make sure it's level and sturdy, and add reinforcement if necessary. Then, measure and cut fabric strips into the desired shape to fit over the form.
Next up is the concrete mixture. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper mixing. Once your concrete is ready, pour it incrementally into the form, using a trowel to smooth out the surface as you go.
Remember to tap the form gently with a hammer after each pour to release any air bubbles trapped in the concrete.
Finally, add the shuttering by laying it over the top of your concrete slab. This will give your finished countertop a neat and professional look.
And that's it! You've successfully poured and shuttered your very own concrete countertop. Thanks for tuning in today, and remember - safety first when working with materials like concrete!

You need to densify with a lithium densifier before using a 200g even if you’re starting with that. This hardens the cream cement layer on top and stops you exposing aggregate. If you don’t do this, sand particles are dragged out the surface and catch in the pad basically turning your 200g into a 50g which is why you’re exposing the aggregate with this pad. Densifier is remarkable stuff.
The American stuff I think you’re referring to is probably GFRC, it’s typically far stronger to normal concrete, up to 8-10,000 psi, 3-4 x stronger than normal concrete, it’s a bit of a faff though.
I do counters 50-60 thick unless they’re cantilevered. I use 6-8mm limestone and fine washed sharp with a small amount of kiln dried.

Can you recommend a brand of lithium densifyer. I would not need much probably just enough to cover a couple of square meters.

@@derekrobertson1548 I’ve used various, Carr Crete, Spektrin and unbranded. It’s usually £30-60 for 5L but it goes a very long way. Unfortunately it’s not supplied in smaller quantities as it’s usually used for large areas like floors. I would google it and find the cheapest 👍
