After finishing up the Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath story on stream, I thought about it, and I KNEW I had to cover the whole MK timeline! So today, enjoy this video summarizing everything that happened from the FIRST EVER Mortal Kombat all the way up to Mortal Kombat 11. Some non-canon/not so important stuff was left out (Shaolin Monks, Mortal Kombat Mythologies, etc.) to make room for some of the most important details.

So that's it. I really thought Raiden was a total badass throughout the whole MK history, but he's just that guy who always makes the dumbest decisions and does mistakes on daily basis. Hell, he doesn't even learn after one mistake he did. He would somehow learn his mistakes, but still proceeds to do dumbshits.

Fun fact: In the original timeline Sindel is 100% a good woman who was put in an absolutely fucked situation. She looks evil yes, but when she's taken out of the mind control (around Deception I think? ) she's a major force for good and does whatever she can to save her daughter from a screwed situation she technically caused because she took the easy way out and killed herself to avoid Shao Kahn's. Also the plot twist of Sindel lowkey makes NO sense in this timeline because in MK9, her bio and ending plainly state that she was indeed brainwashed and is a good person without it, so the fact she's clear of mind control and is not only genuinely evil but also murdered her husband for power in Aftermath is pretty stupid and kind of a twist for the sake of a twist.
This is without going into questioning how Aftermath happens to start with considering Kronika reset time already OR how Shao Kahn is even still alive despite having his frigging throat sliced opened (not cut, SLICED OPEN).
All that bitching said, good work as always. I'm doubling down on asking for Kiryu Kazuma or at least a history lesson on Yakuza
No you are DEAD right. Sindel was supposed to be a good guy. And I def peeped that Shao Kahn should've died. A lot of plot holes in this story. Which is why we unfortunately have to turn our brain off for it.
Also, I really want to cover the Yakuza series, I just need a lil break from all these long ass game stories though.

Sindel turning evil was honestly ridiculous in my opinion. You expect me to believe that someone who was so distraught over the loss of her husband and her homeworld that she committed suicide as a way to tell Shao Kann to shove it, is resurrected and suddenly loves Shao Kann?? They also explain that she didn’t kill herself she was killed. So in the new time line it makes sense. Not an entirely out of left field.
I’m bittersweet about the situation. While I’m glad the story is going back to the first Mortal Kombat tournament, I don’t like how they did my boy Takeda. A telepathic that trained under the Shirai Ryu?! That’s some main character shit!

The advantage of having "The great Kung Lao" in MK12 is that it creates the opportunity to introduce Siro "THE GREATEST MORTAL KOMBAT CHARACTER" to the MK games.

Random thought: Tilda Swinton should be Kronika in the live action MK films
I've watched a lot of full story / timeline videos but your constant reminder of your hatred for Raiden made this one unique ND hilarious! The entire video was full of great quips that made this video, in my opinion, the best out there.
Liu Kang now is the most broken character in MK, right?
He has the same kind of soul absorption as Shang Tsung, Fused with Raiden becoming a god of Fire and Lightining in the process and also fused with another Liu Kang by absorbing it's soul.
He's the MK analog for Bruce Lee, dude. He's been one of the most busted characters since day one.

Side note: In the original timeline, Kitana somehow managed to survive the events of Armageddon, fought buffed Shao Khan, beat's him, saved Edenia and all realms, the end. Of course, that doesn't happen because Raiden changed the past and changed it for the worse. Well at least for Kitana.

@@alexandrpeterberg390character endings are no longer canon unless referenced or outright stated in story mode like Johnny’s ending or Smoke’s from MK9. Can’t remember all of the X ones but I think none of them are canon. Kitana’s in particular can’t be because she has like a ghost Jade in hers but in 11 we are shown Jade is still a revenant. Then there’s MK11 where again no ending is canon. Also in MK9’s opening, we see Kitana on the ground next to Lao. Now granted she isn’t fully shown, just her arm so I guess there it could be possible that she isn’t dead.
10:02 Im pretty sure The reason Johnny can beat those two is that the Revenant forms of these characters are not as strong as the normal versions. Or it could be that during the two years between MK9 and MKX Johnny got proper training and became less cocky

That was incredible. The lore breakdown on its own was exactly what I was hoping for, but I really appreciate that ending. Having things like video games, films, comics, etc. to escape to is necessary, but we always need to bring it back to what matters.

Liu Kang era story is done, I guess they'll go 500 years prior from the main storyline to The Great Kung Lao changing the future because I'm assuming God Liu Kang will train Kung Lao to win against Goto, Shang Tsung and Shao Khan. At least he'd be a better guide than Raiden lol.

This is why I fuck with you, Donte. You legit exposed all of the issues with this story by running through it. They catered so much to self bias, fan bias, and plot devices that they completely lost control of the narrative. In the end, what did we even learn?
You had Conscience exposing these sorts of problems and it was *BRILLIANT* writing on your part. I don't even know how they write Lu Kang a win against Titan Shang Tsung. I mean, dude is even more powerful than the only Titan in the story up until that point. There never should've been a scenario that anyone could've won simply because of her existence being what it was. If someone kills the Titan of Time without replacing her, *nothing* can exist. She's time itself; the very fiber of it. And then, how could she be so stupid as to reorchestrate the same events that would lead to her being found out or let them do what it was they set out to do in the first place? It's not like she couldn't see it happening and prevent it.
I would've made Khronika completely amoral. She exists because she is and she omnipotent. Things happen as they may, with or without her interference. It's up to everyone beneath her to figure out the way forward. When they inevitably blamed her for everything and marched on her throne, she would give them a quick history lesson and then banish them without even needing to rise to her feet. And every bit of time travel they did would be fruitless because The Grand Father Paradox. That's why.
What makes this work is the mechanics of the narrative itself. They'll be caught in a loop, as they need to figure out how to break the cycle. Each time they aim for Khronika, they'll fail and be sent back. That makes for more MK games until they decide the characters are all no longer idiots, and they finally end the series with the moral of the story. And the rather complex moral of the story would be deep:
_Not all fights can be won, but they can be changed. Sometimes things are simply what they are and cannot be changed. Of those that can, however, appreciate the opportunity given to do so. Unlike the characters in this story, not everyone gets a second chance. Be forward thinking._

Well it's a reboot so everyone is back, maybe the eldergods get revenge on liu kang, or the same villains being villains, or one person remembers their previous lives and becomes evil again. Or a slip in sands of time creates an uh oh stinky in the timeline, etc. They can go anywhere but probably are gonna go the reboot trope route

IN MK12 I definitely want to play as The Great Kung Lao with the help of Fire God Liu Kang and you play the original MK tournament and learn about the Elder Gods, the Titans, The One Being, and any other ultra powerful entity in the MK universe we dont know about yet

Holy fuck this gave me a headache. Last Mortal Kombat I took seriously was Trilogy, then Sub Zero Mythologies, and finally MK9 that got shit together again in terms of gameplay and going to the roots.

I really do like how they rebooted the series while still keeping the former timeline canon.
At the start of this video I was ready to compare Raiden to Supreme Kai, but after learning how Subzero Qui Li Yang became a cyborg in MK 10,(or was it 11?) I retract that notion. Because Supreme Kai had some blunders but none THAT bad. That and the cryptic "He must win" message from future Raiden.

MK XII The Great Kung Lao...the very first Earthrealm tournament. Yes. Or/also what about the Edenian MK tournament?? That’d be cool as a side shoot game, all new characters (Edenians) and of course Sindel and King Jerrod. Shao Kahn victorious as canon would be awesome to play through in a game.

Ok so even though this Aftermath DLC is great, I would have preferred if they just ended it with Liu Kang and Kitana. Whole point of Liu Kang becoming the new protector is to do things differently from Raiden, but Aftermath makes him too much like Raiden.
