- Now it's time to cover a character I feel like has been asked for since the conception of Honest Gaming History. Since 1988, this ninja has been giving evil the hands NON STOP. He comes from the ICONIC Ninja Gaiden series and has also made an appearance in Dead or Alive. Today on Honest Gaming History, we're covering Ryu Hayabusa, the legendary dragon ninja.

@@shoriyuken9483 Technically they didn't fight, Ryu saw the final boss crippling Kasumi's brother as Kasumi's fight, so he quit their fight to let her fight the final boss and avenge her brother. Then they fought doa2 and he destroyed her.

Honestly i had more trouble on ninja gaiden games then i did on dark souls 1,2 or 3 or sotfs

Ah yes, Ryu Hayabusa. One of my favorite gaming characters.
He's a boss
The thing about Ninjas are that they were the most real bad asses in history, they were people from the poorest parts of society and were oppressed by the Samurai, but they didn't lay down and take it they stood up to them through espionage, and the use of farm tools that became some of the most iconic ninja weapons. Fun fact the Nunchaku were originally made for thrashing grain.

The ninja worked for different feudal lords mainly as spies for hire. They may have been peasants but they didn't do what they did because they were oppressed and wanted to "stick it to the man". They were a tool for one daimyo to gain advantage over another through espionage, counter intel, sabotage and assassination.
The ultimate super ninja. Always ready to slice every wrong doing, even when faced with unsurmountable adversity, his sheer willpower knows only how to win, that is the life of a super ninja.

I remember Samonosuke! I remember the Onimusha. I had Onimusha 3.. i may have even had the ones before it.. I had the one where the story had that time travel event going on where the past and future protagonist wind up having to fight the final boss, Nobunaga!
I still remember Nobunaga's quote after you defeat him..
"A man's life.. is 50 years... but a wink.. in the life of the cosmos.."
I forget what else he said after that, but it was an awesome game.

I liked how Onimusha was a pitch for another Resident Evil game set in feudal Japan. It even had the iconic "this game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore" that resident evil had

Just like with Terry Bogard Ryu Hayabusa was first introduced in the Ninja Gaiden series and made a appearance in the Dead or Alive series.

Ryu always been that dude... I was confused by the series of the game cuz I played the modern ones so I got the jist of the story behind him... This clear everything up for me... Also his Izuna Drop is HARD to do in DOA lol

I am really digging your guys' gaming history lore videos. No doubt Ryu is probably the more famous, popular and successful game ninja but my favorite gaming ninja will always be Joe Musashi from the Shinobi series, probably cause I'm an older gamer.
The first NG came out on the nes back in 1988 tho. But to each their own

I really hope we do get a Ninja Gaiden IV in the near future, Team Ninja's recent claims to the contrary. Ninja Gaiden 3/Razor's Edge was such a mess. And "Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z" doesn't really count...

This series has been looking very appealing to me ever since I saw TheGamingBritShow's coverage of the modern trilogy (especially Ninja Gaiden II). It's been feeling a bit inspirational at this point and I may have to get into these for one or two original IPs I've been working on; one for the combat and one for the character. This was definitely the rundown I needed to get a better idea of writing this kind of character, as I knew I wanted someone with more "blue oni" leanings, but not quite a "Vergil", if that makes any sense.
This my 1st time seeing ya channel and lemme tell you....that instrumental in ay intri go HARD brodie real rap!!

Ryu was a character I thought was really cool. I still think that even if most of the dead or alive games usually tend to have him saving everybody, including Ayane. But now I finally have a good grasp on the time line.......Damn 3's plot was a mess though. And Ryu did fight damn near everything and now I know Momiji was an apprentice to Ryu and then a priestess who can kick ass and as par DOA/Team Ninja tradition, she has to have big boobs. Great job with breaking down this history of Ryu Donte as always!
