People watch these because they are clever and unique. You didn't just win the campaign, you won in a completely new and interesting manner, and you did this for the whole game. It is a fantastic accomplishment, and you deserve the surge in subscribers you got for it. Brilliant job mate.
And not just win the campaign, but win it on hard difficulty (and do the achievement of destroying the wonders without allowing the factions to finish their construction) which is also quite the feet!
"Overcome with grief for the Hunnic warriors who had laid down their lives in the name of pacifism, the people of Sofia cut themselves in mourning. Unfortunately, their inexperienced hands cut too deeply, and those who did not succumb to blood loss fell prey to tetanus and died."
Not only the art. The music is creepy as f***. It sets the mood for the story and makes it feel like a horror story more than one about war. They destroyed that mood in DE replacing the music with generic drums.
One the many things you have built over the course of these videos is your storytelling ability to weave a narrative around these pacifist runs. Discovering your channel was one of the better things that happened to me in 2020!
Making cities to starve to death, destroying buildings, making villagers slave, letting your own units die - I would not call it "pacific" in any way...
Father Armand: "The river banks were covered with human bones-..." T-West: "uhmno" Father Armand: "...-and the stench of death was so great that none could enter the city-." T-West: "lol nope" What kind of sick, twisted, fantasy, clearly fictional world does Father Armand live in to talk like this??? 🙃
Clearly the deaths being blamed on the Huns was propaganda of the Roman Army; the actual cause of death was a plague accompanied by severe dehydration, hence why so many people died by the river.
The Tarkan torch is a powerful symbol of peace. Even the earth bows down in front of their honor, crumbling walls and buildings that obstruct their noble mission.
The last mission was basically an epic thriller with how you framed it. I was at the edge of my seat. I happened on your channel by complete chance and frankly I love both your pacifist runs and your custom campaign runs, especially the Gwyndlegard trilogy. You're easily one of my favorite AoE content creators and I hope you keep doing your quirky shenanigans.
i love how mr t west narrates attila's conquests like if they were the kidest people of earth :) keep the good work mr t west and congrats for the 16k subs :)
"You question my every decision. It is as if you seek to lead the Huns yourself. " "No, no, brother, all I want is for everyone to live long and happy lives" - Real historial discussion between Bleda and Attila.

26:34 C'mon Travis that's the Adriatic Sea (part of the greater Mediterranean Sea), not the Caspian Sea... the Caspian sea is around 3000 km away in Central Asia 111 But congrats on pacifying the original campaigns man! It was a really creative idea, and I am glad you've gotten so much success from doing it :)
I even wrote Adriatic in my script! Didn't notice I said the wrong one despite rewatching that part over and over 11. At some point soon I'll rerecord that line and edit in the correct sea, then reupload an unlisted video and link to it here.
There's actually a way to j-bait the scripting while the boar kills bleda. If you run in the forest hit the boar once and run back to camp you'll trigger the nomad script right as he dies resulting in bleda being dead and the archers being converted along with getting 2 sets of tributes. I can post a video to my channel if people are interested in seeing it.
He had me at 16:35! 18:15, enough internet for the day... 16k subscribers and you still read each and ever comment. Hats off! God Bless you for your Pacifism!!!
I had a feeling of deja vu watching the first mission (especially when you targeted the Market and the Monastery of the Romans) but realized that it was a speedrunner who defeated the Romans the same way.
6:14 "Stay there and we'll send Dave to help you out on his way back from picking up his wife from the mall" This is a very inside joke with the deeper layer that the scout will never be picked-up by Dave! HILARIOUS
There's something about this game...that makes it never, ever die...the background music, the in game dialogues (back in the day) the stories...the best game ever! Don't even try to change my mind
I love how the Narrator keeps saying that you were brutal. In mean, you just beat your Opponent, without killing them, while your Men die. Thats like the ultimate power move
Definitely my favoutite of the original campaigns. The story and voice acting were excellent and it always felt like the most elaborate of the old campaigns with many of its missions having an above average number of triggers and memorable moments. Having Tarkans must have been a breath of fresh air after having to use castle age battering rams in most of your videos :)
As person who's only subscribed in the past few weeks -- randomly saw a pacifist video recommended to me and I think the idea is so unique compared to most of the AOE videos I've seen. edit: Can't wait to see you play the other expansion campaigns! I think they are a bit harder than these. Already have thoughts on which may be trouble for pacifism.
Finally!!! Loved all your videos!!! Really liked how you stated in the video description that Attila is a pacifist. i had to re-read it before i could comprehend it!!!
While the main draw to these challenges (pokemon and the like) seem to be a lot of the challenges. I just want to say I appreciate your writing. It's clever and witty and entertaining, it really comes out in your narration. The opening piece was great.
I wonder if down the road we'll ever see the AoE team legitimize the pacifist runs and add achievements for them. (Guess the only way to find out is to keep hitting the subscribe button)
Putting "Huns" and "Pacifism" in the same sentence is almost anachronistic yet such a fun concept too! Love the effort you put into your videos, really an inspiration for many! Keep it up!!
Dang, this is so entertaining, not only the gameplay, but the commentary too. Felt like borderline of delusion.....for the ingame narrator that is, how can he not see the way of pacifism.
Your videos are great! Not only are you finding fun ways to play the campaigns and play them competently, your editing is also on point! The way you composed the gameplay and prologue/epilogue narratives together for maximum dissonance in tone was the funniest AoE 2 content I've seen in a long time!
You did it you madlad! Congrats to this amazing achievement which surely will open every door for you. Who would dare to try to stop the great pacifist?
I would've never believed that a pacifist Attila campaign could be possible if I hadn't watched this video myself! Once again, it was an absolutely amazing video man! Cheers!
I know I've said this before, but the new civilization themes work beautifully with these pacifist runs. The Hun theme in particular fits the framing of the story as a "wholesome tale of happiness and warmth."

8:32 Ah, The Pacifist Attila didn't kill anybody in his raids. He just drove them to severe depression and made them kill themselves
"Overcome with grief for the Hunnic warriors who had laid down their lives in the name of pacifism, the people of Sofia cut themselves in mourning. Unfortunately, their inexperienced hands cut too deeply, and those who did not succumb to blood loss fell prey to tetanus and died."
Can we all just take a moment to admire those last story panels? I always thought it was a clever little twist, especially with the great art.
Absolutely. The Hun's campaign narration and panels were probably out of all campaigns. Absolutely marvelous.
Shame what DE did to them...
I was so disappointed playing this campaign in DE when I saw how flat and emotionless this narration was.
