    Mercerized cotton is also ridiculously good for core spinning (and cheap!)

      Great to know - I actually don't like knitting with it because I'd normally make washcloths with cotton, but mercerized isn't the best for those, but I still have some floating around to be used!

    HI;
    Thanks for posting this and this was actually what i was searching online.
    i have NO experience with this ,and no vocabulary for it either ( learned a few words here !)
    what i want to do is use a core yarn and spin some lurex over it but what i want is a really tight and even and perfectly coated yarn so that you cant see the core just the lurex
    so two questions
    A) does it matter what the core IS in order for the lurex to stick ? i want a relatively thin yarn and would prefer to avoid wool- Eg a thin cotton yarn.
    B) any thing i should know here?

    DO YOU PUT EXTRA TWIST INYOUR CORE YARN? WHICH DIRECTION ARE YOU CORE SPINNING? CLOCKWISE OR ANTICLOCKWISE

    oh and the bobbin i have on my old machine has hooks but these are not open ended hooks like a C , they are like an inverted V , solid into the wooden thing that goes around the bobbin.
    any thing i should know about this ?
