- The Official Alexa app on Windows WAS rubbish, this video will show you how to setup Alexa on Windows 10 and a beta skill that extends the functionality to fully control your PC with Alexa as well as the usual Smart Home control and Amazon Music support.
This video will also show you how to use your echo dot to control your PC instead of a computer mic if you prefer. The Alexa PC setup is remarkably easy, and the software that makes complete control of your PC possible is just as easy to install and use. I'll even show you how to control Spotify on Windows 10 with Alexa, at least for basic functionality.
Finally I will show you how to do home assistant voice control locally and privately!

hello skills connect is not supported. I don't know why I tried it on multiple devices. I have the connect software installed on my PC and alexa and also alexa on my mobile device, but skills connect cannot be activated, what conditions do I have to meet? Thank you

I just started using the ASC v2.02 program by jez walter and I can't seem to figure out the setup. I've got an alexa skill made, the ASC app is setup properly, but I cant get the data upload page to interact properly with the alexa skill. For instance, I can tell alexa to "open (my skill name)" and she will reply with the welcome message that i've setup in the data upload page, but then if I tell her "do that thing", which is the phrase i've listed in the ASC app, she doesn't do anything at all. My computer doesn't open any of the programs that it is supposed to. Im looking for help everywhere, including emailing jez but I have no idea how that will go.
I'm trying to connect alexa to my computer but it does not have bluetooth conection, could u tell me if there is anyway to connect it without bluetooth, maybe with auxiliar cable or idk .
I tried downloading Alexa onto my Windows 10 PC but I get the error "Alexa is not currently available". My computer does seem to meet all requirements.

Hey Paul, I had this working up until recently when it decided to randomly stop working. To attempt to resolve this issue I unlinked my account with the desktop app so I could repeat the installation process. Since I did that I am getting an ' Unhandled exception has occurred in your application' message? I then tried to completely uninstall the desktop app and reinstall it which again did not resolve the issue. I have emailed the creator but thought you may have come across a similar issue when using this skill and desktop client?
All I really wanted was some way of safely shutting down my PC rather than killing the smart plug through my echo. This over delivered. I'm now making macros that can do anything on my PC. Theoretically I could play EVE online using a combo of this and a macro program with just voice commands with no effort (but a bit of knowledge). TBH the most helpful thing you can program is shutdown, play, pause and resume netflix/prime/shudder/whatever. I've done all these and it's easy. Thanks Paul

ON the tell my computer to link # step I get connected party did not properly respond after a period of time
Hi Paul, is Alexa Connect still functioning? When I download and run on my Windows machine it does nothing at all, nothing opens and nothing is running.
To add some better context here, the Windows machine I am using is a Virtual Machine running VMware Horizon, but Alexa does work this way I would just love a way of being able to get Alexa to open a PowerShell / Bat script to perform a function for me. I have tested on my physical laptop and things seem to work.

It really depends what you are using EventGhost for. I personally use both EventGhost and VoxCommando, although as time goes on I use EventGhost for less and less things.
I installed Alexa app on Windows 10, but there is a long delay between the wake command and results shown on screen.
I can't understand what you're saying when you're referring to the app that makes the changes to Alexa, could you please tell me what app you were using to do that

They shouldn't ever turn even the free PC one into a paid service. Using it gets you addicted to it and then you want to start adding stuff to it and you start buying devices for all around the house. Some people for around the house, car, and finger. You also start to subscribe to things like Amazon Unlimited Music, etc. There'd be no reason to turn it into a paid service, it would be an extremely unintelligent move.

I still prefer Jez Walter's Alexa Speech Configurator, less work to set up, and even better you don't need to always say "Alexa, tell the computer to ____". For many of the demos on your video, I do it by simply saying "Alexa, resume video" and book, there it goes. Granted it doesn't have as many features like media controls and as far as I know doesn't yet use macros, but for the simpler stuff of opening programs, webpages, etc, then it's great. Also you can create batch files that run a whole slew of commands, and just have it run a batch file - kinda like a macro I guess. Anyway, just my two cents, might be worth to check out for some others who want something a bit faster and simpler to setup. Thanks for the videos!

Thanks man! As long as the skill doesn't involve things you're taking with you then yes! Light bulbs and stuff, anything that's in the house will work just fine. 😊

@@iamcosplay7242 We do this using Alexa (or VoxCommando) and the OurGroceries Android app and skill. The nice thing about the OurGroceries app, apart from being very simple, is that you can both shop at the same time and knock things off your list as you add them to the cart. As long as you both have data both lists will be updated as you go so if you are in a hurry you can split up with two carts...

Does this work on laptop
I see your stream deck there. Do you think It's possible to turn an Alexa Show into one that functions in a similar way?
I use a combination of ifttt, push bulet and push2run with my google home. (All are free though push bullet has a preimum plan for using it to do certain things)
With the echo and ifttt I would have to set up a "ask my computer to open word" or "ask my computer to open iTunes"
With google assistat i can go to ifttt and just set up "ask my computer to (whatever I say) and set up push2run to open it.
I do still have to set up some aps individually in push2run but the wildcards still work.
I have set up, and please forgive the horrible call, "ask my computer to youtube (call)" and it will search youtube for that call and play the first matxh. Works better for music but does work.
Have you made it work with google music, to play a specific song?
@@neklamp2431 yes i can "ask my computer to youtube michael jackson thriller" and it plays that on RUclips. Baring in mind it plays it on RUclips in a web browser and not through youtube music.

Well, since I couldn't get the app to work (I am not in the US), I found something for my google home to play with. The PushBullet service.

hey paul i really need your help buddy, i finally recieved my braodlink RMpro, i have 2 main issues at the moment. 1. i am trying to add a wireless light switch, which has the 1 clicker to turn the light on/off, but i cant seem to be able to add the remote the rmPRO, i tried over 20 times, i get it to acknowledge the remote, but when trying to pair the on and off buttons, it fails every time...HELP.
2. i was able to add another type of on/off switch similar to that in your video, but, i was not able to discover the device in alexa, but, when i go the the list of devices, magically its there, and i am able to control it via alexa, but i get the alexa reply "the device is unresponsive. plz check the network and power", but the plug socket works.. what am i doing wrong. i even tried to diable the ihc app from alexa and reenable it, still, it works, but i get the reply, 'device is unresponsive'. helpppp.
Hey man, the first one sounds like it's not a compatible device is it definitely RF rather than Wifi or boluetooth? Is it on 315Mhz or 433Mhz? It may be on the opposing frequency range to the RM pro.
For the second one try renaming the device to "test light", let her scan again and then see if it works, it could be that she doesn;t like the name. Failing that I have heard of instances like this where you have to actually completely start over by deleting the RM pro from IHC and then pair it from scratch. That would be my next step.

@@paulhibbert the light switch is definitely RF. the swtich is wireless and uses kinetic energy to send teh siginal to the control unit ion 433 mhz.

Thanks dude. You can use voxwav on your phone to interface with vox commando on your PC. This means the PC still needs to be on for it to work unfortunately. Voxwav kind of turns your phone into a mic for vox commando.

Wait a minute.. I didn't see you sign up for Windows Insider Program. When I found Alexa for PC the other day I could NOT download and install it unless I was signed up for the Windows Insider Program which means you have to allow full telemetry to Microsoft. I think this step is keeping people from using Alexa on PC. I singed up for the Insider Program, installed Alexa then opted back Out of the Insider Program and re-enabled tweaks to lock off Telemetry.

Hi Paul, I'm a big fan of your channel and love what you do. On this occasion however I think you have missed one major negative as previously outlined in one of your previous videos "The True Cost Of Your Smart Home". Having the flexibility of "Smart" stuff accessible through an assistant needs the assistant to be permanently running. Surely the cost of an assistant with a decent speaker still remains the practical approach. OK call me dumb ass as I know this is perhaps a gimmicky option for "she who will not be named" on a PC which many will try.
Keep the videos coming I'm already looking forward to this weeks release ;-)
You can leave your PC off, and via some other skills and PC settings, have Alexa turn your PC on for you. Saves energy!

I guess not everyone will see the value in this. I totally do though!! I am sat at a PC all day 5 and a half days of the week. Having voice control is a big deal for me, especially for resuming Netflix when I'm pottering around my studio :)
