He was a box office juggernaut. Back then, if you heard about a new Eddie Murphy movie, it was an automatic day at the movies - no question.
Both of y'all are right. He wore the red and black outfit in his one stand up he did and also honoring Michael Jackson. All in all just a good movie with some good comedy and and some decent action
Its not a nod to his stand up, he’s laughing at the thriller outfits becoming wearing the full gear was kinda corny back in the day. Lol. Besides, his outfit was different. The only similarity was that it was red.
Eddie Murphy was a super star back in the day, I still rank Delirious as one of the greatest stand up comedy performance of all time. I’ve never seen any comic drip with as much charisma as he did that night.
Yes, and did you catch early on in the movie, the two in the red leather, same as he wore for the show? I just noticed that and I've seen this movie A LOT.
Those outfits were not from Eddie Murphy’s stand up. Those were Michael Jackson Thriller jackets and that’s why he was laughing. Everybody was wearing them in those days. The same way girls were wearing lingerie and lace bows in their hair, trying to look like Madonna.

It had a higher budget than Karate Kid, Gremlins, Splash, Romancing the Stone, Footloose, Revenge of the Nerds, 3 times higher than Police Academy or The Terminator. similar budget to Star Trek 3 or Conan the Destroyer. Only a handful of 1984 movies had a higher budget than Beverly Hills Cops. 15 millions might not seem like much these days but it was by no means a small budget movie.

2 years before this, Eddie starred with Nick Nolte in 48 Hours, but I think this is the movie he's most known for. The soundtrack is terrific. And like a true 80s movie, it's rated R, but they never waste time with a cheap romance between Axel and Jinny Summers. They're just close friends. This movie is such a classic! Every line delivered by Murphy was just chef's kiss great! It was the perfect vehicle for his quick-on-your-feet comedy! Beverly Hills Cop II is pretty good, too!
Here is a fun fact about Beverly Hills Cop 🙂The lead role was meant for Sylvester Stallone but Eddie Murphy ended up getting it because Stallone wanted to change too many things in his rewrite of the film. Sylvester Stallone ended up making the rewrite into a movie called Cobra! The difference between Beverly Hills Cop and Cobra is enormous, there is no way that anyone can guess that it is a rewrite without reading about it.

Director Martin Brest had some very good films on his resume. Sadly his career was wrecked by the infamous disaster Gigli. I don't think he has made a film since then.
Beverly Hills Cop is a classic that'll live forever. Eddie Murphy ruled the 80s as a comedian. He kept SNL from getting canceled. Great reaction! 👍🏿 Please react to the sequel.
The “Rolling Stone reporter” scam he pulled to get a cheap room in the Beverly Palm Hotel always has me in hysterics, no matter how many times I watch it ✋️😂. The humour in this movie NEVER gets old, especially with “Serge”, the worker at the art studio 👍😁
''Billy Rosewood'' is played by Judge Reinhold, who played ''Brad Hamilton'' in ''Fast Times at Ridgemont High'', and ''Pvt. Elmo Blum'' in ''Stripes''. He was a highly popular everyman actor in the 1980s.
"Look at the jackets they got on!" Eddie laughing at the leather outfits is a joke about his costumes from the comedy specials Delirious and Raw. Very funny stand-up.
My all-time favorite Eddie Murphy movie! I also love Beverly Hills Cop 2 and the Golden Child. And the soundtrack for this movie is an 80s chef's kiss.
This is a hilarious film. I was fortunate to see this on the big screen some years ago when they did a rerelease with a bunch of classic films. It’s always great to see the films of when Eddie Murphy was a huge mega star and seeing Jonathan Banks as young as he is in this film is really cool too. Great reactions guys, take care and have a great evening!
Gil hill was literally a Detroit police officer when this film was made and Eddie Murphy. An absolute Genius of an actor. This is possibly his #1 movie ever in his career
The guy playing Billy is Judge Reinhart. He has another fun movie called "Ruthless People". Good job. Eddy Murphey was a hot talent back then. Lots of SNL appearances and movies. "Beverly Hills Cop II" is good too.
One of the funniest action comedy movies ever made! Originally, Sylvester Stallone was going to star and write the script for the movie, as his version of Beverly Hills Cop was more darker, violent, and action packed, lacking the humor. When Paramount executives read the script, it was immediately rejected and Stallone turned his unproduced version into the 1986 thriller COBRA.
At 25:00, Axel makes fun of the high-voice cop. Shows him the right way to speak. Made BJ nervous because he does the low-voice, few words macho approach.
I grew up watching Eddie Murphy!👍 He is so hilarious!🤣 You also should watch his stand up comedy shows, "Eddie Murphy Delirious" and "Eddie Murphy Raw"👍👍👍 I can't wait to see your reaction to this movie, one of his best movies!👍👍👍
That part when he's mocking the cop about the banana in the tailpipe line always makes me laugh...but back in the 80s when I saw this in the theater I laughed for so long that everyone around me started to get annoyed.
The price of the Beverly Hills Hotel is currently about $250.00 a night for a single room. A suite can be as much as $2500.00. This movie followed Edde Murphy's debut in the movie 48 HOURS. You guys really need to look at that movie. His successful career was launched on Saturday Night Live a few years earlier and included a comedy concert film called DELIRIOUS. Sometimes, you guys are as funny as Eddie. Like when Asia starts fussing at BJ about something random. I did notice that BJ NEVER, NEVER, fussed at her. But that's the way love goes. Enjoy
Just looked up the room rate for the Beverly Hills Palms Hotel ... Trip-Advisor lists a single room rate of $1902.00 per night for a standard single room.
What you have here is a young comedian that earned a spot next to experienced dramatic actors that he would need to adapt to. But since Eddie is so charismatic in the way he steals the scene, you clearly see these actors adapting to him.
I remember seeing this at the theater for the first time. The opening police chase is one of the best car/truck chase scenes in movie history, IMO. The scene in the car between Billy and Taggert about the red meat was improvised by the two actors during their screen test when they were trying to find the best duo. The thinking was that a partnership between cops is not much different than an old married couple.
I also remember seeing this movie on a first date. The chemistry of bickering between Rosewood and Taggart is a precursor to what Riggs and Murtaugh had in Lethal Weapon.
Eddie Murphy started his comedy on Long Island and did quite a few gigs the same time as Jerry Seinfeld (same clubs, same night) back in 1978. In 1982 he was hired to bring SNL back to life after they lost their original cast from the first 5-6 years. He also release comedy ALBUMS, called Delirious in 1982, Comedian in 1983, and RAW in 1988. He started in movies in 1982 and became the biggest box office male for the 80s. He had an incident with a transvestite prostitute in the early 90s and went away, came back as a kids movie actor.
That "little revolver" was probably a .38 special, a pistol designed for police use. It can handle .357 as well as .38 rounds. (same diameter, but the .357 is longer) As you finally discovered, the cops weren't dirty; they were just unbelievably by the book. At the end I think the chief knew they were BSing him. He just wanted to see if they were going to stick with a "perfectly good lie." 😏 During the 80s Murphy was box office gold. The 90s, not so much, except for his voice work as Donkey in the Shrek movies. Yes, that is genuine laugh. In 1987, Robert Townsend (one of the most underappreciated creative minds in Hollywood) wrote Hollywood Shuffle, about the stereotypes black actors have to deal with. I mention this because there's a small scene where a casting ad said they were looking for an "'Eddie Murphy type." Cut to the waiting room; every single actor is practicing Eddie Murphy's laugh. That's what they were looking for. 🙄
Asia you yourself have a very unique laugh! I love hearing it! I recommend you react to “Beverly Hills Cop 2” and eventually check out “48 Hours.” That’s another one of Eddie’s early films, and it’s hilarious and very gritty as well.
Great reaction! One of my favorites from back in the day. Another unforgettable role by Murphy is in a shamefully underrated movie called Bowfinger (1999). Steve Martin plays an aging, never made it film director trying to scam his way into a major movie deal. And Eddie has a great dual role as two brothers: one is an over the top Action movie star, and the other is a nerdy, socially awkward nobody who isn’t close to his brother. Eddie is perfect and completely opposite in both roles. It’s a crazy story with a great cast that was largely neglected, as sometimes happens. It would make a great reaction.
This is one of my grandmothers favorite movies. And what I find so ironic, she loves Eddie Murphy for his movie, thinks he's wholesome, adorable and funny, but she's never seen his stand-up. 😂😂
I was eleven when this came out, and it's been one of my favourite movies ever since. Hilarious comedy, great action, and a classic 80's soundtrack (especially Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer, which was my favourite tune for months afterward). Truly one of Eddie Murphy's finest, and that's a long list. The second one is great too, and then They Never Made Another One. 😉 Y'all are awesome, Cheers from Canada. 🥃✌❤
This is a favorite of mine. Eddie Murphy is excellent in this. And yes, he actually laughs like that. Here are a few other movies for your list: Quigley Down Under. 13th Warrior. Warcraft.
Great reaction! On a side note, I came across one of your old videos yesterday where you mentioned your music. First time I heard about this. I listened to your stuff and your voice is beautiful! Loved medicine! Good stuff!
Everyone wanted Eddie Murphy for movie roles after his superstar status from Saturday Night Live, and his national stand up comedy tours. My favorite was "The Golden Child"
I was in grade school when this movie made it to cable. My mother couldn't stand me watching it because of all the vulgarity. Funny enough though, the thing that made me laugh the hardest wasn't vulgar, at all. Rather, it was when Axel mimicked the other cop saying, "We're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe."
BHC is such a classic, glad you added it to your channel. The sequels are also good too. The killing of Michael Tandino was so dark. For an action comedy, that scene was very raw and realistic and really bothered me when I was younger. I was not expecting such an brutal death that was just so unflinching in it's execution. Honestly though, it really set the tone for Axel's motivation and it's such a great film. Great reaction!!
The scene where Eddie Murphy laughs at the two guys walking by on the street, those outfits were not from Eddie Murphy’s stand up. Those were Michael Jackson Thriller jackets and that’s why he was laughing. 💯 Everybody was wearing them in those days.
Serge was the man! 😂
@@tattooedman42 … I remember Bronson (aka: “Serge”) in the hilariously funny sitcom from the 90’s called Perfect Strangers 😂😂😂
@@gerardroll6468 He has a great role in True Romance as well
''Billy Rosewood'' is played by Judge Reinhold, who played ''Brad Hamilton'' in ''Fast Times at Ridgemont High'', and ''Pvt. Elmo Blum'' in ''Stripes''. He was a highly popular everyman actor in the 1980s.
When Bj said:"Yittdiddy", i cracked up!!🤣🤣
Yes Asia, that laff IS Eddie's natural laff.
Eddie Murphy was first cast on Saturday Night Live and he actually saved the show from being canceled. I watched those. He was hysterical.
Nice 😊
I was privileged with watching this when it came out on the big screen. Damn I miss the 80’s.
That red leather outfit he laughed at - he wore that exact outfit for his standup special, Raw.
"Look at the jackets they got on!"
Eddie laughing at the leather outfits is a joke about his costumes from the comedy specials Delirious and Raw. Very funny stand-up.
BIlly was played by Judge Reinhold who has another classic 80s comedy worth watching, Ruthless People (1986).
I totally forgot about Ruthless People. Got to go watch that again. Great movie
The biggest smile appeared on my face when I saw this!!! This will be fun! Thank y’all ❤😂
My all-time favorite Eddie Murphy movie! I also love Beverly Hills Cop 2 and the Golden Child.
And the soundtrack for this movie is an 80s chef's kiss.
You see a lil naked man running around with a hundred dollar bill?
"I say I-I-I he he-want the knife!"
I laughed way louder in the theater at that more than anyone else.
@@BoondockRoberts "pleeeeeeeeeze"
YEAH ASIA, YOU'D WATCH IT AGAIN, ESPECIALLY WITH THE GREAT SOUNDTRACK IT HAS! 😊I'VE SEEN THE TRILOGY 100 TIMES SO
RIP John Ashton , Sgt Taggart .
A classic....still referenced "banana in a tailpipe" to this day....40 years....CRAZY 😭
Y'all gotta do The Last Dragon. Another 80s classic
"Catchin' bullets with his teeth?" 😂
"WHO'S THE MASTER?" 😆
I read, then confirmed, if you pause when Jonathan Banks gets thrown over the buffet that it's Richard Pryor standing in for Murphy.
Growing up I only seen my dad laugh to 2 movies...Smoky and the bandit and this gem right here
oooh all I know about Smokey and the bandit is it kept Star Wars out of the Chinese Theater in LA in the first month! And also Burt Reynolds ^^
This is a legendary movie, and Part 2 is equally awesome, and that's where you can stop. 👍🏾
Gil hill was literally a Detroit police officer when this film was made and Eddie Murphy. An absolute Genius of an actor. This is possibly his #1 movie ever in his career
The late Gilbert Hill was a police commander with Detroit Police and later in life he served on the Detroit city council as well.
@@rccraig7580 wow I never knew that. Awesome
The guy playing Billy is Judge Reinhart. He has another fun movie called "Ruthless People". Good job. Eddy Murphey was a hot talent back then. Lots of SNL appearances and movies. "Beverly Hills Cop II" is good too.
Big up vote for Ruthless People! Perfect script
I am thankful both exist, great movies.
At 25:00, Axel makes fun of the high-voice cop. Shows him the right way to speak.
Made BJ nervous because he does the low-voice, few words macho approach.
I remember watching this movie at the theater with my dad. He laughed so hard, and it wasn't even his type of movie. Great memory
RIP Gilbert Hill. His boss in Detroit. He was on Detroit City council and a heavy hitter in the city.
BHC is the perfect mix of action and comedy. A HUGE hit when it came out and is still loved today. The 2nd one is almost as good too.
This one is right up there among my top Eddie Murphy films.
Eddie's made a lot of great movies, but (IMO) this is his best, hands down.

(same diameter, but the .357 is longer)
As you finally discovered, the cops weren't dirty; they were just unbelievably by the book.
At the end I think the chief knew they were BSing him. He just wanted to see if they were going to stick with a "perfectly good lie." 😏
During the 80s Murphy was box office gold.
Taggart was play by John Ashton, who was really good in Midnight Run with Robert De Niro and Charles Gordon.
When this Movie came to our Cinema in the 80s, I ran into it seven times !! 😁😂😂😂
1984 and 1987....best movie years of the 80s
I was eleven when this came out, and it's been one of my favourite movies ever since. Hilarious comedy, great action, and a classic 80's soundtrack (especially Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer, which was my favourite tune for months afterward). Truly one of Eddie Murphy's finest, and that's a long list. The second one is great too, and then They Never Made Another One. 😉
Y'all are awesome, Cheers from Canada. 🥃✌❤
I fully endorse and also echo pretty much everything you said, but I particularly lost it over, "and then they never made another one" 😂
@@Taylorswiftfan13308 😁
This is a favorite of mine. Eddie Murphy is excellent in this. And yes, he actually laughs like that. Here are a few other movies for your list: Quigley Down Under. 13th Warrior. Warcraft.
Great reaction! On a side note, I came across one of your old videos yesterday where you mentioned your music. First time I heard about this. I listened to your stuff and your voice is beautiful! Loved medicine! Good stuff!
ooooh
Everyone wanted Eddie Murphy for movie roles after his superstar status from Saturday Night Live, and his national stand up comedy tours. My favorite was "The Golden Child"
Heck yeah, this is a great movie!
And you've absolutely got to watch Beverly hills cop 2 because it's twice as good. 💰
Those leather track suits he wore a similar one of those in his stand up special “Delirious”
Saw this in the theater with my cousin when I was 11. We laughed so hard, the entire movie, our faces hurt by the time it was over.
Eddie is pure Cool, and Happy, best vibes
I was in grade school when this movie made it to cable. My mother couldn't stand me watching it because of all the vulgarity. Funny enough though, the thing that made me laugh the hardest wasn't vulgar, at all. Rather, it was when Axel mimicked the other cop saying, "We're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe."
That's my favorite moment too! 😂
When Nokia cell phones first came out , you could change your ringer. And my ringer was changed to this movie theme song. ❤ great movie.
The same way girls were wearing lingerie and lace bows in their hair, trying to look like Madonna.
Eddie Murphy is a national treasure. And yes he does really laugh like that!
You have to watch the 2nd one it's the best (IMO).
@Asia and BJ while there is part of me that goes wtf.... what rock were you two amazing people under not to see this :). However, the 75% of me is just too damn happy to see you both enjoy what I FEEL is one of his top 3 or 4 films. NO ONE ever came on film as Murphy did his first films were 48 hours, Trading Places, and This, He was a megastar. To see Asia laugh and Bj laugh too was a treat. ty Both and thanks to your amazing patrons who allow us all who can not to enjoy you all full time.
Not sure if it's been said yet, but the mansion where the final shootout takes place is where Arnold does his shootout in Commando a year later.
Another one of my favorite movie series 😁
BHC2 and Bowfinger, which stars Eddie and Steve Martin.
