  • Tucked away on a quiet street in Seville’s historic Santa Cruz neighbourhood, lies an extraordinary repository of vintage, antique and modern ceramics, handicrafts, pieces of pottery and azulejos (tiles). The dusky blue-fronted ‘Populart’, established in 1977 by collector and craft expert, Laura Salcines, winds and stretches far back from the street, its walls and shelves bursting with treasures. “You enter here and it gives you serenity,” she says. “We’ve grown up together, the shop and I.”
Escape with us into the slow, magical world of Laura Salcines’ Populart, a remarkable legacy now passing into new hands.

Beautiful woman, whom, took the time to care and curate local authentic pottery and shelve them altogether.
The good the pretty and the ugly.

Incredible collection! What an inspirational woman, and such a naturally skilled story teller too. The way she shares the stories of her beloved items with such honesty and passion is captivating, a great teacher. So glad to see her children are continuing her legacy.
Thanks Cabana, for always bringing us such uniquely authentic places and people.

As an ex-potter this moves me. The vessels contain so much. Creation and cracks, movement and stillness, all the elements, memories, simplicity, the poetry of every day use. Throwing is like recording time in a way, not unlike how vinyl records were made. Ceramic vessels have been used for water, food storage, drinking, eating, oil lamps, medicine, religious figures, embalming and ashes since the beginning of time.
Her shop is a treasure trove of human history and loving human forms made with bare human hands. ❤️❤️❤️

I have been visiting Triana in Seville for about 20 years I have never visited this shop. How has this happened? It can be so difficult to find older things unless it is at a market. Triana itself is changing so fast. I must visit next time!

When she sold her collection of Sevillian azulejos (tiles), she produced a book. Actually, she made only one copy, to "keep" all the tiles with her.
