    Geology made simple:
    Igneous - it came out of a volcano
    Sedimentary - it eroded from other rocks
    Metamorphic - its been heated at pressure beneath the Earth's surface.
    Don't think of it as three totally separate groups, there's grey areas in-between, don't think of it as being linear, its more like the exposure triangle, except its not a triangle !
    The Faroe's is made up mainly Igneous rock that is geologically young, so not much of it has eroded away yet. Which is why its so spiky ..... and doesn't have fossils.
    Whatever its made of its bloody awesome 👍

    • @paulcomptonpdphotography
      @paulcomptonpdphotography  2 года назад

      wow mate thank you, so there are fossils just to low to see yet

    • @garyalawrence
      @garyalawrence 2 года назад +1

      No Paul. No fossils! Any dinosaurs would have nothing to eat and be cooked. Faroe islands are three layers of basalt formed from molten lava so no plants or animal s until relatively recent times .

      @@paulcomptonpdphotography Not really. Volcanoes happen on the edge of the tectonic plates of the Earth's surface. Think of it as the cracked skin on a cooling custard. As the plates float about over millions of years the lighter rock skims over the top of the heavier rock pushing the heavier rock down. The heavier rock melts, heated by the Earth's core, and all fossils in it are destroyed; before eventually it comes back out of a volcano somewhere (think of it as rock re-cycling). Metamorphic rock is a bit of a half-way house and can retain some fossil structures. Marble often has bits of fossil in it but the matrix is so dense that its very difficult to get individual fossils out.
      There are lots of RUclips videos that explain it better than me. Just look up 'Plate Tectonics'. 🤔

      Sorry Paul really cocked the message up... I wondered what bag you used in the Faroe Islands. The one with the pocket for a drinks bottle or your small tripod. It looks just what I need. Would you recommend magnetic filters. I would love to join you there in 2023 if possible. Your videos especially the Faroe drone footage are amazingly amazing.

    do you need to get a tour or can you just hike up there alone?

  • @hikerdude10
    @hikerdude10 2 года назад +1

    Epic adventure Paul. Hope you don't mind a couple of questions. Since this was a guided tour that included non 'serious' photographers, did you find yourself pressed for time to compose, set up and take your shots? Also do you mind saying how much the tour cost? Regarding processing, I generally like your results. However, have you tried using the AI enhance sliders in Luminar? I know many folks look down on this software, but I have found that it can do a great job bringing more 'life' to images taken in flat light, by bringing out tonal and color contrast. I think that it would help to pop the greens in some images. Thanks for sharing your on-gong adventures.

      hahahaha wow you read my mind, i have just been contacted by Skylum and given the new Luminar Neo, and i have a very rough video out this Friday... 73 euro for the dragonair hike and i had time to sort out the imaes i wanted.. yes your on a time limit, but saying that it was more about getting the boat, Helga said i could stay and walk back if i wanted to..

    This for me was the highlight of the trip, a place i have wanted to vivsit for quite a few years now never thinking i would get there, seeing it was amazing. Our Guide Helga was very nice and made the walk interesting but saying that i think i did most of the talking.. I am sorting a return trip out for September 2023 and have a couple places left and this hike is 100% on the trip and in the price of the trip..

    I've looked at hike complexity and all I realized, there is none, the only reason there is a guide is for pure money grab , these paid guided hikes discourage me visiting Faroe...

      The reason is to stop the ware on the land, they only do two walks a week. its to stop the paths and land getting messed up
