Ricoh GR in 2022?

- A look at the old school Ricoh GR 16 megapixel APS-C camera that kicked thing off and why I still gravitate to this older camera. All images are straight out of camera JPEGS.
Apologies right off for the shifting exposure and pulsating auto focus. I have no idea why the Fuji XE-4 was acting up s much on this video.

Thanks for the down to earth video. BTW 16MP is PLENTY as you said. I shot international magazine covers with 5MP and shot ads for Olympus, Panasonic and others with 12MP cameras. No one complained ever.
Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated and yes. I feel so many photographers get hung up on the megapixel war.
Of course its plenty. But the 24 MP gives you so much freedom for cropping, that essentially turns your camera from 28 easily to 35 and up to 50/60 mm with very good resolution still left. I also use the topaz labs gigapixel ai for upscaling tight crops, and sometimes I feel like carrying a dslr with a 28-70 f2.8 with me all the time ;)
picked up a GR on ebay last month after thinking about it for years.. best decision i ever made
One of the better reviews i have seen for this particular camera. To the point and the essentials.
Great video Joe! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Your so right, Joe! Old techniques can let us still learn a lot and hey people made great images with them as well. Great video. Cheers!!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
those colors are amazing!!! fantastic shots 👌
Thank you
I love my GR Limited Edition. It's a great camera and a great setup. Also have the GRIII Street Edition, and wish they'd brought the same back control set up into the new bodies.
Side note: Love your videos and appreciate the info you share. The lighting and hunting is all over the place and a little distracting.
Yeah the camera I happened to be using wasn’t working out the best. That has since been resolved. Thanks for watching and the feedback.
Bought a GR this year and it has been one of the best camera purchases in years. I agree the exposure comp buttons alone make me pick up my GR most days instead of the GRIII. Great video!
Much appreciated
I bought mine in 2021 and am happy with it. Got it very cheaply and in great condition. Thanks for making the video.
Great to hear!
Excelente!!!! Totalmente de acuerdo con su opinión. Un cordial saludo
Thank you for this video, well explained and I appreciate the thoughts in this. I really don’t want to feel like I gotta get the newest shiny thing to break the bank when the GR 1 or 2 will work out just fine for me .
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
I've had the original GR from the first day it came out. I've also used the Sony A7s with the Sony-Zeiss lens. I prefer the GR due to to the creamy organic film-like look . An absolutely amazing little camera.
Yes it is
Great video. In your settings what do A:2 and G:4 stand for?
Thank you. That is referencing the Amber and Green white balance shift values.
Great video! I really liked the settings you used. Was interested to know what settings you use for black and white? and wondering if you could share them please. Thanks!
Rarely shoot monochrome in camera. Usually RAW then apply monochromatic presets I make.
My GRIII street edition has seen extensive use and has had its fair share of abuse, but the wheel is still working correctly for me. It is subjective of course, but I would not get back to the GR/GRII. Awesome cameras, but for me the new 24MP 14-bit RAWs are soooo nice to work in post-processing. That is my perspective, because I don't use the Jpegs, I enjoy editing as much as I enjoy the actual shooting. But I agree that a second hand GR is a killer deal for anyone passionate for photography.
I have the Fuji GFX50R system. Bought this about 6 months ago and I now only use my GFX for commercial work in the studio. The GRii is so fun to use and the tones are stunning. 16mp is more than enough. The GRii is a camera to capture expressive photos. It's like using charcoal to draw. You capture moments you just couldn't get with a large camera.
Agreed. Thank you for commenting and watching.
Yummy photos
Good for landscape photography too.
Hi great pictures! I’m trying to decide between the Ricoh GR i/ii or the x70, which one would you recommend?
Tough call for sure. The X70 seems to be pricier. Regardless you can get crest colors out of both. Hard choice. I think it comes down to what features each camera has and which of those features works best for you.
Great video on the GR. Are you from Jersey/ Philly?
Thank you. I’m in NJ by the beach.
Nice! I used to love in Atlantic County, NJ
Bought GR2 after I had GR3X for a month. I gravitate towards more to GR2 because it is easier to use and feels lighter in the hand. It feels like a workhorse to me more than GR3X does, best purchase in years!
Absolutely enjoy the controls more on the older GR cameras.
Alright, how did you manage to get the Peak Design anchor threaded onto the GR?
Dental Floss is your friend. Lol
Bought a GR 2 few days ago .don't need anything else
Nice move.
