    As an Electrician, doing his own barn conversion, I feel able to tackle the plumbing because of this channel. Shitter fitters do have some skills after all it seems. But top tip, if you spill your glue, just mop it up with some £50 notes you have laying around.

    top tip when drilling a boss hole make sure your drill is done up tight and the hole saw doesn't fall down the stack and stuck, so you haven't got to dig up up the group to get it out !!;)

    If you're welding together with solvent type glue, it's important to apply glue to both pieces before joining - also abrading the gloss off the pipe and socket, either with acetone or light sanding will give a leak free joint forever.

    Here in America the same stuff is done, they've got a newer style called "Pex" that I don't quite trust yet too. PVC plumbing is great, but I too am careful to stay clear of the acetone plumbing cement, when I was a teenager I enjoyed that kind of thing, but not now. Cheers from across the pond :-)

    James , my soul pipe terminates in the loft with a valve on it . It’s hidden behind the false wall where the shower barn is above the bath . I want to rip out the bath and take away the false wall and move the pipe into the corner and box it in. Does it have to terminate into the loft space or can I just box it in halfway up the wall and drill a few breather holes in the ceiling ?

    Love all the video's. What is the grey fitting you glued into to the black boss called? Can I use one of those to push in the metal tube from a chrome bottle trap into that goes through the wall to the soil stack outside? Cheers

      @ZanderKaneUK 6 лет назад

      In the UK the boss I have used are 2"/50mm the fitting James used was a 2" to 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" reducer which will allow him to connect the waste(s) from either the bath, basin or shower into the soil stack, however each manufacture sizing can slightly vary (+/- 1/16") to keep you in their parts catalogue because capitalism.

    I’d like to switch round my sink and toilet. Cast iron shitpipe and boxed in through downstairs room so don’t really wanna have to rip it out. The toilet and sink are only about 700mm away on same wall. Is it the norm to use a 90 to connect from new shitter position (back to wall concealed cistern so I can hide the pipe run) along a short run across to another 90 into cast iron shitpipe? What kinda distance would this add to the shitter position given I’m swapping close couples to concealed

    Why are some parts push fit with a rubber o-ring (that I guess could perish) and some parts solvent weld which all being well last to dooms day? Always struck me as being silly as I would assume what you've done there will be boxed in so it can't be an access deal, can it?

    i'll much rather use a direct 110 by 50 by 110 tee with 50 mil branch being 45' and in combination with 45' lbow to create a seamless one piece tee. and another thing with the 50 mil strap bus that i hate is that it looks unprofesional. so yeah. nevertheless, nice work James! cheers mate

    It`s kinda weird to watch regulations of the UK, I`ve been working aboard about 4-5 years including norway/sweden/iceland and mostly everything is different. Why do you guys don`t use same parts everywhere? - You used couple of fit-in elbows and glued the rest. when you could just fit T instead of drilling the pipe.
    P.S. It is always fun to watch you! @HOLDTIGHT

    Find this very strange. I have been doing this for 15 years in iceland. We use pvc, pp and skolan dp all with rubber rings. Why do you use pp with rubber ring then at the top you clue it. The you drill a hole instead of useing a T.

    Too much glue results in damage to the plastic of the pipe on the INSIDE. This makes the surface rough and is somewhere where the wet wipe will catch and block the sewer! Do not use too much glue, just enough, DON'T 'slop it on'!
