Live in Midlands had no water , can't flush or nothing for 6 days now ! Had 5 plumbers out so far basiccly live on top of a takeaway there's 2 flats in on same second floor mine is a one floor flat and my neighbour has an upstairs , basiccly when I flush the chain it starts backing up and then if I run the tap it will back into the toilet and bath ! If my neighbour flushes or runs the taps it backs into my bath also !! First plumber didnt want to touch it and said its a severn trent water issue and they need to clear it from the main sewage they checked and said its clear from there ! We have a main sewage clean out in the back of the takeaway downstairs and the second plumber said it looks clear ! Thrid day a tried plumber came out and noticed because of the back up of water the pipe burst inside the wall and came apart 😳 flooded my whole bathroom and down into the takeaway!! That plumber didn't want to do it as we don't know the layout of the pipe work etc! When the water backed up into the bath we unplugged the pipe which went from the sink outside into a main drain line which leads downstairs to stop water coming in and got it to redirect outside instead ! The whole pipe when we take the sink pipe off is filled to the top of water backup! My landlord said that pipe thats full goes both left and right and has u bends! What would this problem be my neighbour is being very selfish and keeps running the taps etc and it backs into my bath! If we turn taps on or flush more then once same thing will happen pipe will fill and back into my bath and toilet it was so bad it broke the seal around my toilet and water was spraying out ! My landlord got another plumber which he chose to be cheap with to come and repair the pipe which was leaking and he ran my tap literally once and the tap for all but 3 seconds and said it was working so the landlord tried blaming us for taking a small pipe off the back of the sink which backed into the main pipe which has back up in ! If we didn't take that off water would have carried on coming in ! We saved him thousands in damage by doing that and quick thinking I grabbed every single towel bucket and even bed sheets etc to soak up the water ! And we were taking it in turns to empty the bath as it filled! The landlord refuses to turn the water off by mains and the problem still isn't fixed the pipe that came off in the celling thats been repaired but the back up is still there and backs up from my neighbours toilet above mine into my bath and mine does the same ! What could this be is this a soil stack blockage or is it something to do with the pipe that attaches to the back of the bathroom sink because that one is the one connected to the sink and bath and thats the one I took the off and was backed up right down into the celling! Would the soil stack back up into other pipes also? Because I thought it was a main line sewage problem and sevebrn trent would fix it ! But they said no blockage and the man who came to check the main line clean out whixh is inside the takeaway said it was working but he only got the takeaway to run there taps and toilet and we didn't get asked and we are on the 2nd and third floor ! :/ confused!
Wow….. that’s a real mess. Without seeing and testing everything it’s hard to work out what the issue is to be honest…… I would be pestering the landlord to get it sorted as it’s a health issue now with soul pipe water backing up
Little tip for next time you can get 40mm solvent through two joists have pull on it and bend it in it alright when it goes in then just coupling it up, flex seal instead of pissing about cutting that lip on inside good work though nice to see people using copper
I've lost count of how many times I've cut the side of toilet pans out 🤣 sometimes there's just not enough room for back to wall pans housed in a boxing. Great work pal!!!
Good progress mark with the bathroom, the only thing I would of done different would be to run 2 inch waste from the boss to the basin then tee off in 1 1/4 to the basin then 1 1/2 to the shower and probably fit a MacAlpine aav above the shower in the loft to stop the sink gurgling as I'm never keen on notching joists next to an already notched joist but each to their own. As for the sparks I know you said the ceiling is being over boarded but that's absolute lazyness banging holes in the ceiling like that, it's a mess and would probably take 20 mins in the loft. Anyway looking forward to the finished job 👍
If there was a loft they would of been in it mate…… but no loft hence going through the ceiling, plasterer is in tomorrow and you won’t see it as new ceiling and skimmed. I personally am not a fan of teeing waste pipes in together…. Seen and heard to many issues with it, plus notching out for 2” would of REALLY set the trolls off on here…. They are all ready having sleepless nights about a job they have seen on YT🤣🤣 As you say each to there own, always do the way that works for you👍🏼👍🏼
Just a personal thought question. I believe a 110mm dia. stack or should I say soil vent pipe (that is a pipe that is vent only) can be as narrow as an inch and a quarter. I mean, 110mm is (in my opinion) excessive, also at 110mm there is an uninsulated space in the room. If the vent pipe was less than 110mm, it could be incorporated into the stud wall structure................ Thanks.
Not on a main vent tge pipe diameter shouldn't be reduced.there wouldn't be enough air admittance when flushing the wc.i think, been a while from college lol
That’s a great plan out and first fix job. Quite a dare mode to cut that soil stack. I guess it must be the experience that you gained after all these year to make that decision or cut look so easy.
Great video on the bathroom rip out.could you not connect the basin waste and shower waste together so you only have one run into the stack pipe.tiles came off easy enough without to much damage to walls.bet it will look smart when finished 👍
Decent start to the job. As others have said I would of stuck a tee close to tbe stack taken the basin waste into the 1-1/2 & then just the shower waste. On the basin waste fit an antivac trap or self sealing valve. There's no chance a basin waste backing up the shower waste as you've then put the connection close to the stack. No chance of them pulling as you've only got an electric shower as opposed to one off a combi or pumped. I'd be more concerned as to almost little to no fall on the shower waste as electric showers generate so little water they struggle to run away & eventually block especially with knuckle bends . I'd of used a hole saw on the joists & atruggled with a few sockets but peace of mind I'd got a decent fall on it. But hey we all approach things differently . Could you not of got the customer to go for a pumped shower & run both bathrooms off of it to do the showers ? Give them a decent shower as opposed to dancing around an electric shower to get wet. All that graft for an electric shower even if its a 10.8 , you'll be replacing it in about 4 years !! Or converted it to a unvented win win for both bathrooms . Appreciate its extra cost to the punter . But a better shower performance ! Am interested in seeing you cut this pan as I detest back to the wall pans nightmare to connect up. 🤞it goes ok .
Can I ask what inserts you use for the soil pipe tees to get wastes in? I was on a job the other day to repair a leaking one outside and showed up with a BOSS rubber insert but it was too big (soil pipe tee cut out) so had to mangle the rubber insert with a stanley and a load of silicone to make it fit. I rang around asking for a slightly smaller insert but nobody seemed to know what I was talking about.
Great job mate, would it not beenbetter to bring the 4" under the floor and go in the side of the toilet T for the shower and basin, great jobs anyway.
@@MJTiffPlumbing yea seen that too, some times you just gotta do what you gotta do. I done a similar job with stack internal but brought it outside and back in again was tight and alot of measuring. But looks good pal, can't wait to see the toilet pan cut out I always have to cut the back of the back to walls as there is never room for anything.
That’s the problem , when you have bathrooms, the waste pipe work should be boxed in , you definitely lose a bit of space , the timber joist looks healthy, and it’s on a second floor, he can get away with it, but you definitely don’t do that on a first floor, those are most important joist.
Notches should only be an eighth of the joist depth. Would never cut joists that deep - stuff what the customer wants - they will be quick to blame you when something goes wrong.
The white pipe that you initially took off that shows the black rubber needs replacing(its currently leaking) 😮, can you just seal it with silicone or do i replace the whole part? Your advice is much needed thank you
Seen one inside a cavity in a converted student house in Manchester, it had a big hole in it and had been leaking stink into the wall for years. Nice smell. They ended up having to replace ends of joists, cost them thousands......
See these internal stacks a lot on properties I do. They can’t be a proper pain in the ass! All old, stuck and wedged in! Like yourself I sometimes just rip out the fittings and start again! Not everyone appreciated this part of the job and the thought process that goes into it! 👍 take care mate!
@@MJTiffPlumbing absolutely mate… did one about 3 months back… 3 way boss adapter under a bathroom floor 2 of which had split. Right in the corner boxed in, also went down into kitchen below with another 2 boss adapters feeding into it… again, leaking. Chopped it all out and slip coupled a new load back in… council job… full of crap and glad to get home! Give me your bathroom job all day ha!
Can you not take the soil pipe straight down under the toilet and then across to the stack? Saves cutting the toilet and having to add horizontal boxing in
Another interesting video and great to see the progress of a new bathroom. Trying to have my bathroom refurbished but what is it about people coming out to quote and then you never hear back from them?
Got exactly same issue on our job re BTW pan !! They look really nice but don’t work on internal soil stacks ,.. said the same - I’ll cut out but cannot guarantee it won’t crack ! 🤞🤞🤞 in morning 🤣👍
They do do pans with knockout points on either side like kitchen sinks, always dodgy doing it but they do them🙄 second fixing today and customer agreed one for electric towel rail position then changed mind so had to remove four tiles and re fit as the tiler had finished to move over 100mm🙄😂
Why is the shower waste so high notched in joist.. If the tray sits on floor normally waste is say at least 70mm to centre of pipe as it comes out of pot. Surely there's no fall unless the tray is risen right...
Weird that the customer is fine with overboarding the back wall. The bath is tiny right now and an extra layer of board+plaster can make a visual difference if it comes to the size of the bath in this case
Good job mate.though could you not have used 2 4x4 branches under the floor or was there not enough room.as you say real world plumbing trying to solve these problems
Great seeing how you think out the soil stack problem. Quick question for my own understanding, does the soil stack fittings not need to be cemented together?
Does anybody know please - In a new solid concrete floor, is there a standard distance the soil stack needs to be from the wall?? Once the floor is poured there's no going back, if its wrong its bad news. 😢
Hi mate, got a question, i turned off my stoptap under the sink I have an unvented white cylinder, I turned on the hot taps & it wouldn't seem to stop flowing? does turning off the cold stoptap, stop hot water coming out so I can change a tap / shower etc?
Hope u don’t mind me replying If it’s invented turning of the main feed to the house should stop your hot water If not though the cold feed going into the bottom of the cylinder should have a valve on so try finding that and turning it off and the hot water will stop 👍
@@jaffplumbs26 what a legend thanks so much for replying, I did turn of the main stop tap under sink and opened the hot taps to drain it down till it stops but didn't seem to stop so was a bit confused.
Hi, very impressed with your plumbing skills. I guess you are vat registered. Have you ever had potential customers complain or go with a non vat registered because of the extra 20%
Nice mate love a good rip out! Could’ve durgo’d that vent and boxed in lower level for a shelf maybe but extra work for no real reason haha, keep the vids coming 🤙
@@MJTiffPlumbing yeah fair enough mate I was just being an idiot. I work in offices up London and basically told to make it work no matter what 😅 apologies for questioning you. Love your content mate
I get that but sparks need carful guidance especially when they are wielding a hammer, I’ve got mine in tomorrow and he drops cable, tape and general stuff all over the site and thinks it’s someone else’s job to clean up after, I’m sick of tidying up after him so tomorrow he’s gonna have an interesting morning cuppa 😜
Surely with the customer wanting a back to wall pan, boxing out behind the toilet to house a concealed cistern would have been a good option, and would have also hidden the horizontal soil pipe

Your advice is much needed thank you
Just replace it buddy….
@@MJTiffPlumbing thank you so much for your prompt reply...
Urgh internal soil stacks 😩 what genius thought of that idea eh!?
We had one inside the cavity once which if never seen before
They can be a right nightmare
Seen one inside a cavity in a converted student house in Manchester, it had a big hole in it and had been leaking stink into the wall for years. Nice smell. They ended up having to replace ends of joists, cost them thousands......
Why didn’t you just put a 135 into the current shower waste for the sink?
A coach bolt, nut and a grinder disc and make your own internal cutter
👍🏼👍🏼
See these internal stacks a lot on properties I do. They can’t be a proper pain in the ass! All old, stuck and wedged in! Like yourself I sometimes just rip out the fittings and start again! Not everyone appreciated this part of the job and the thought process that goes into it! 👍 take care mate!
Thanks mate, you can fully understand the thought process that went on 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing absolutely mate… did one about 3 months back… 3 way boss adapter under a bathroom floor 2 of which had split. Right in the corner boxed in, also went down into kitchen below with another 2 boss adapters feeding into it… again, leaking. Chopped it all out and slip coupled a new load back in… council job… full of crap and glad to get home! Give me your bathroom job all day ha!
Move it outside.
Can you not take the soil pipe straight down under the toilet and then across to the stack? Saves cutting the toilet and having to add horizontal boxing in
Not in that floor space mate…. It’s all done now, take a look sunday
Gunner cut the side of the toilet pan out. 🙈. Jeeze, never seen that done before. Looking forward to seeing that.
Done it a few times mate….. needs must sometimes 😉😉
@@MJTiffPlumbing Never heard of it done before.
Brilliant video showed everything 👍
Thanks Lee 👍🏼
Yeah they do pans with the left and right side knocked out already I'm sure they're made by roca i have sold a few of them from City plumbing 😁
I will have to take a look👍🏼👍🏼
Lock your chuck fully! Then turn it back one click locks the chuck so your bits won’t fall out!
Oh they will…. They have a mind of there own sometimes…🤣🤣
Mark. What do you use as a lubricant? For connecting up. Many thanks Gray
Polypipe grease/pipe lube 👍🏼👍🏼
sorry stupid question time, why cant you plumb the shower drain into the sink drain and just have the one pipe going across the joists?
Not the best way to do waste pipes, will cause gurgling
Do you need toput pipes in the wall to feed the basin
I'm not a plumber. Why can't you use the existing 40mm waste for both shower and basin?
Not good practice to tee wastes into each other as it will “pull” and can cause gurgling
@@MJTiffPlumbing Thanks for your advice
Another interesting video and great to see the progress of a new bathroom. Trying to have my bathroom refurbished but what is it about people coming out to quote and then you never hear back from them?
Thanks buddy…… someone people just don’t want the work it would seem
Got exactly same issue on our job re BTW pan !!
They look really nice but don’t work on internal soil stacks ,.. said the same - I’ll cut out but cannot guarantee it won’t crack !
🤞🤞🤞 in morning 🤣👍
Gotta do what you gotta do…. Just cover your ass
Could timber it out and then put an concealed cistern in and btw pan no cutting needed
@@mikecave4154 not enough room for w/c pan pal, need a c/c for door opening 👍 thanks for your input though mate 👍
I hate back to wall pans, you can never be sure they are not leaking till it shows up on the ceiling below.
Yep very true…. Just have to trust you’ve nailed it when fitting 👍🏼👍🏼
HI Mark nice work and vid love the cutting tool must get one all the best
Thanks mate, they are handy
Another great vlog mate.Do you not like tile backer board rather than plasterboard. Thanks Gareth
I’ve used both over time….. either or is as good as the other 👍🏼👍🏼
Why would you notch the joists again when you can simply put a T into the small waste pipe and extend it to the shower?
Because I don’t tee waste pipes together as it causes issues including gurgling and flow issues….
I was just thinking.....
Is it not ok to use inch 1/2 for shower and T off for basin waste and just reduce to inch 1/4.
I personally never like tee’ing into shower wastes as it causes gurgling
@@MJTiffPlumbing most appreciated, I never knew that
Do you drain heating system to move that towel rail or is there a way of doing it without draining?
Had to drain the system mate….
Need more of the Dog in this series 😂
Hahahaa…… He’s a live wire!!!
How did you get the waste pipe under the floor without lifting the floor up? Great video as usual.
Fed it in one end then back on itsself….. always a way
Hi Mark great video as always how did you get the fall for the waste pipe when notching the joists and is there a worry of weakening the joists ?
No worry at all mate, just slowly make them deeper for the fall
They do do pans with knockout points on either side like kitchen sinks, always dodgy doing it but they do them🙄 second fixing today and customer agreed one for electric towel rail position then changed mind so had to remove four tiles and re fit as the tiler had finished to move over 100mm🙄😂
Well I never knew they did them 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing they are abit scary to punch out tho mate😬
Absolutely brilliant
Thanks mate….. hope your well🙌🏼👍🏼
Why is the shower waste so high notched in joist.. If the tray sits on floor normally waste is say at least 70mm to centre of pipe as it comes out of pot. Surely there's no fall unless the tray is risen right...
Plenty of fall on this buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing is tray sitting on floor
Weird that the customer is fine with overboarding the back wall. The bath is tiny right now and an extra layer of board+plaster can make a visual difference if it comes to the size of the bath in this case
Good job it’s just a shower then😉😉
An extra 12mm isn’t an issue👍🏼
Looking good mate, keep up the good work
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Good job mate.though could you not have used 2 4x4 branches under the floor or was there not enough room.as you say real world plumbing trying to solve these problems
Not enough room mate….. so many different ways went through my head but this was the best way I could work it👍🏼👍🏼
Knew you would have thought of that mate
Hi mate been following you for a while now. What sizes are recommended for basin/shower/bath waste please?
Basin is 11/4”
Shower is 11/2”
Bath is 11/2”
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for taking the time to get back to me and so quickly! Top top man!
One more question, you fit the flexi waste on the bath, can that be installed on push fit pipe or does it have to be solvent weld pipe? Tia 🙏🏻
Great seeing how you think out the soil stack problem. Quick question for my own understanding, does the soil stack fittings not need to be cemented together?
No mate, they just push together and seal
@@MJTiffPlumbing makes sense, haven't seen them before, cheers!
@@stephenhaley2k3 I don’t think I’ve ever seen a soil pipe that’s cemented together 🤷🏼♂️
@@MJTiffPlumbing haha well I'm not a plumber so I haven't seen many, but they've all been cemented. Based in Spain though so anything goes!
Why didn't you black off the old basin waste.. then add a new tee for the basin waste into the shower waste pipe but add a anti syphon basin trap.
Not a fan of teeing waste pipes together so I avoid where I can mate
Why cant you put the basin and shower down the same pipe?
Can cause suction issues and pulling water out of traps… along with gurgling
Does anybody know please - In a new solid concrete floor, is there a standard distance the soil stack needs to be from the wall?? Once the floor is poured there's no going back, if its wrong its bad news. 😢
No mate…. You can always adapt it…..
Nice job on soil pipe ...is the shower tray going on legs ? ....doesn't seem alot of fall on waste to reach shower tray ....great content on vids 👍
Fair bit of fall on it to be honest, looks deceiving 👍🏼
Could you not have shared the large existing notch outs on the floor to run your copper, not being negative love your vids
Always keep the pipes seperate in the floors to allow for board fixing positions
I’ve just started a bathroom today , the customer hasn’t stopped talking all day . You just can’t get on !!
I would say it’s going to take longer if you keep chatting 🤣
Could you not have connected the basin waste into the shower waste?
I don’t like teeing waste pipes together as they can pull on each other and drain traps causing smells to get out
Yea true but aslong as the fall ain’t to aggressive and Anti vac trap shouldn’t have any issues saves having big notches near each other in the joists
More bathroom remodels please Mark
Got plenty to come
Hi mark what’s the link to the internal cutter u use on soil stack cheers mate
www.amazon.co.uk/Internal-Plumbing-Diameter-Grinding-Replacement/dp/B09X5GWDNW/
Link is in the discription mate 👍🏼
Hi mate, got a question, i turned off my stoptap under the sink I have an unvented white cylinder, I turned on the hot taps & it wouldn't seem to stop flowing? does turning off the cold stoptap, stop hot water coming out so I can change a tap / shower etc?
Hope u don’t mind me replying
If it’s invented turning of the main feed to the house should stop your hot water
If not though the cold feed going into the bottom of the cylinder should have a valve on so try finding that and turning it off and the hot water will stop 👍
@@jaffplumbs26 what a legend thanks so much for replying, I did turn of the main stop tap under sink and opened the hot taps to drain it down till it stops but didn't seem to stop so was a bit confused.
Nice video thanks mate 👌
Thanks mate glad you liked it
I read soils stack have to be cut straight...is that true?
Always best to mate
Nice one Mark
Thanks Robert 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼
Hi, very impressed with your plumbing skills. I guess you are vat registered. Have you ever had potential customers complain or go with a non vat registered because of the extra 20%
Nice mate love a good rip out! Could’ve durgo’d that vent and boxed in lower level for a shelf maybe but extra work for no real reason haha, keep the vids coming 🤙
Then that creates the issue on the roof, have to get a roof tiler to come and fit a new one in the place of the stack etc etc
where part 2 carnt find it is there 1
Yep…. Follow on parts to This build
Great vid as always mate 👍
Thanks buddy
Am I being an idiot, but why couldn’t you cap that boss off and use the 1 1/2” shower run with a tee in for the basin?
Because it would then pull on each other and can cause gurgling from traps….. always pipe up separate
@@MJTiffPlumbing yeah fair enough mate I was just being an idiot. I work in offices up London and basically told to make it work no matter what 😅 apologies for questioning you. Love your content mate
Great video thanks
Thanks mate
"good job we are over tacking the ceiling then!" Sparks, get a hole saw and a dust pan and brush!!!!
He knew we were before doing that obviously….. if it’s a finished ceiling he wouldn’t be doing that
I get that but sparks need carful guidance especially when they are wielding a hammer, I’ve got mine in tomorrow and he drops cable, tape and general stuff all over the site and thinks it’s someone else’s job to clean up after, I’m sick of tidying up after him so tomorrow he’s gonna have an interesting morning cuppa 😜
@@chrisgunn121 🤣🤣🤣
Typical sparks making a mess
Surely with the customer wanting a back to wall pan, boxing out behind the toilet to house a concealed cistern would have been a good option, and would have also hidden the horizontal soil pipe
They wanted the look of the toilet and cistern for this bathroom
@@MJTiffPlumbing fair enough then, customers prerogative.
Is it not illegal to have joists cut like that?
Nope👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing fair enough haha
