Hi Dr Lee,New subscriber finished my CNA course few weeks ago i notice you empty the bassin in the sink ,but was told to empty bassin at the bedside commode never in the sink .
Hello Lovelyne, Prometric allows the student to empty the basin in the sink. We are washing the body. It is no different from a patient washing up at the sink while sitting in a chair.
Hello Raquel, Prometric does not tell the candidate how to check the water. We must check the water and have the patient check the water. Therefore, the applicants can test the water with their fingers, wrist, elbow, or a gloved hand. There are no guidelines on how to check the water.

Good day Dr Lee, where do you advise we pour the water, in the toilet or wash hand sink, our teacher said anything from neck down goes to the toilet. I'm confused. Thanks Ma
Hello Eky, The only thing that MUST go into the toilet is our waste products (BM and urine). Bath water is acceptable to put in the sink even if you are doing peri care. Remember during the state exam we wont be cleaning BM or urine from the mannikin. Some patients even take a wash off or partial bath at the sink and not over a toilet. (LOL)
Thank you for your wonderful videos. I have a question. Which is first to wash, labia area or a catheter? Although you cleaned up the catheter first, the order was labia area first on the checklist of Prometric.
Hello Megumi, We are doing the catheter care skill, so I started with the catheter. Prometric does not tell us where to start at with this skill. If you go back and review the modified bath skill, you will notice that Prometric SPECIFICALLY tells us to start with the eyes. Therefore, we can't get marked off for starting with the labia or the catheter because a starting place is not specific for this skill. I hope this makes sense.
Dr.Lee, thanks for your demonstration. Ok, do you remove gloves to cover your resident? Or just do as you've done,go ahead cover with same gloves you washed resident with? Yours, CNA
Hello, Great question. Let's look at the instructions from the state. Pay attention to #3. The gloves MUST stay on until all supplies, including the dirty linen, are put up. So, please keep the gloves on if you'd like to pass this skill. Does the candidate: 1 Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self? (IC) 2 Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care? (IC) 3 Wear gloves while providing catheter care, cleaning equipment, and handling soiled underpads, washcloths, and towels?
My instructor had taught us to wipe one side then the other then the labia. If the groin is included when washing the side is the sufficient or does the groin need to be done separately?
Dr Lee thank you for this work!! One question that's ok if I put some gloves in my pocket? I have fear to need more gloves when I have everything set up
Hellos Dr lee, I have a few questions. If you’re going to perform your first skill out of the 3 tested do you have to actually wash your hands the first time even if the evaluator said you can assimilate? Also, shouldn’t you have a trash bag and dirty linen bag with you and if not are you allowed to set them on the table after using? Thank you you’re videos are very helpful!
Hello Natalie, You will have to actually wash your hands for your first skill. The evaluator will grade you on hand washing at that time. For the remaining skills, you ONLY need to tell the evaluator that you are washing your hands. You don't need a trash bag for the dirty linen with you. The site should have a linen container close by the bedside when you test. If you are using the bedside table, you must place a towel or something on the table before placing clean or dirty items on it. Prometric will NEVER count it wrong is you place dirty things on top of a towel that is on the bedside table. I hope I understood your question. Good luck with your exam.
My advice would be to change gloves after washing. Charge gloves again before putting on underwear/ brief. I personally used one washcloth for each area just to make sure. For state exam. New rule says never touch faucet with bare hands. Paper towels turn off and on.
Hello Desreen, Can you please send me the link to the document where Prometric says to Never touch the faucet with bare hands? Just link the document here. Thanks. I have NEVER seen that rule.
Would you doff gloves & wash hands before providing patient with call light since your hands are considered dirty after providing catheter care, then take care of supplies?
Good day!! Thank you so much for making these videos. As an instructor they are a great tool. I do have a question. Our Manikins are small and one of my students is cleaning in this manner. 1 wash cloth folded in 4 she washes the right peri area and groin with one wipe, next side of cloth the other side of the peri area and groin, 3rd side the labia area, the 4th side wraps the catheter tubing and wipes it. She rinses in the same manner. Will this be acceptable??
Hello Christine, This is an interesting question. I don't know. The instruction doesn't require the student to use a different towel for the catheter and genital area. I will ask around to see if I can find an answer from other instructors.
Hii Dr .Lee on Tuesday im gonna take my test on McAllen TX am watching your videos 🤞 I’ll let you know on Wednesday if i passed Thank you so muchh for all your videos and answers ❤️🙏 God bless u!!
A gown should never be used as privacy protection. Some women wear very sheer gowns, and their body parts are exposed through thin clothing. A bath towel should be used to dry the client.
Hello, Prometric DOES NOT require the use of an alcohol swab for this skill. Did you read anything in the instructions about the use of an alcohol swab/wipe?
Hello again Dr Lee! I am taking my skills exam at the end of the month so I am watching all of your videos continuously. You make things so much clearer than in my skills class. One question if you start with washing the catheter before moving onto the peri area do you need to dry the catheter? In skills class they told us to do so, but it seems silly since the catheter gets wet again as you clean the peri area. I noticed for your video you only dried both areas afterwards.
Hi Dr. Lee, after catheter care, you did peri care. What about the rectal area? Does all prometric guidelines are the same in all state? I'm from NY. Thanks Dr. Lee.
Hello Albert, Prometric guidelines in New York is the same as we do in Texas. Please see the link below to New York Guidelines. www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/NAClinicalSkillsChecklist.pdf So, to answer your question, Prometric only required the candidate to clean the front perineal area with catheter care. See pages 5-6 when you click on the link above. Cleaning the rectum is NOT apart of this skill while testing.
Hello Ventura, You don't have to replace the barrier under the patient with catheter care. The only skill that requires you to leave a barrier under the resident is PeriCare.
hi on cath cath once we are done and we are putting supplies away basin etc and then i removed gloves and wash hands -are we allowed to do all that and remove privacy blanket with no gloves on?
Hello Raquel, You must have on gloves when putting away the dirty towels and cleaning the basin. Look at number 3. Prometric's skills checklist states the following: Does the candidate: 1 Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self? (IC) 2 Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care? (IC) 3 Wear gloves while providing catheter care, cleaning equipment, and handling soiled underpads, washcloths, and towels?
@@txcnaskills2599 is privacy blanket considered that? We were told to wash hands after the gloves then go back remove privacy n closing steps Now i am getting confused.
Hello Julie, You will actually wash your hand with running soap and water for the first skill. After the first skill you will just tell the evaluator that you will wash your hands at the appropriate time.
Hello, Prometric does not grade against the student if the student touches the call light or curtain with gloves on. This is not a requirement in the skills checklist.
You must Wash, Rinse, and Dry the Catheter. Most people dry the catheter immediately after washing and rinsing, BUT, Prometric will not count it against you if you dry the catheter later. The key is to wash-rinse-dry before saying I am finish with the skill. You must also Wash, Rinse, and Dry the front genital area.
Hello, The steps you speak of ARE NOT tested during the state exam. Those are personal choices to make when providing catheter care. No where does the state require students to cross legs and arms and roll a patient to place a pad/chux under the patient.

Hii Dr .Lee on Tuesday im gonna take my test on McAllen TX am watching your videos 🤞 I’ll let you know on Wednesday if i passed
Thank you so muchh for all your videos and answers ❤️🙏 God bless u!!
Good luck to you. I wish you all the best.
Can I use a towel or chuck pad as barrier on the floor for foot care?
Hello Candie, Yes you can.
I've noticed that you did not check and lock the bed. And are you supposed to wash your hands before and after every skill?
Hello, According to the Prometric guidelines for this skill your comments are NOT correct.
Dr. lee how many prometric skills require for us to leave the patient with a clean linen towel at the end?
Hello, I am not sure what you are asking. Please rephrase the question.
good job ma...
Thanks a lot
Do we have to use a bath towel? Can we just use the gown and blanket as privacy protection?
A gown should never be used as privacy protection. Some women wear very sheer gowns, and their body parts are exposed through thin clothing.
A bath towel should be used to dry the client.
Hi Dr. Lee on the catheter drainage bag my question is. Is there supposed to be an alcohol swab in this skill
Hello, Prometric DOES NOT require the use of an alcohol swab for this skill. Did you read anything in the instructions about the use of an alcohol swab/wipe?
Yes It did
Dr. Lee I notice you only did front do you still have to do back also? Need to know this asap?
Hello, For catheter care the state only requires the student to clean the catheter and front genitals ONLY.
When completing skills is it necessary to complete in exact order
Hello, you need to clean the catheter tubing away from the client and the peri area front to back.
Hi.please is it compulsory to check and raise the bed before skill begins
Hello Annie, When testing through Prometric, it is not necessary to check the bed wheels or raise the bed.
Best of luck Amie! I am so glad the videos are helping you.
Hi Dr. Lee, after catheter care, you did peri care. What about the rectal area? Does all prometric guidelines are the same in all state? I'm from NY. Thanks Dr. Lee.
Hello Albert,
Prometric guidelines in New York is the same as we do in Texas. Please see the link below to New York Guidelines.
www.prometric.com/sites/default/files/NAClinicalSkillsChecklist.pdf
So, to answer your question, Prometric only required the candidate to clean the front perineal area with catheter care. See pages 5-6 when you click on the link above. Cleaning the rectum is NOT apart of this skill while testing.
Please subscribe if you have not done so already. Thanks
Thank you Dr lee.
Dr.lee thank you for the video, one question please, can i use a paper towel as a barrier during the prometric.
Hello Lily, Prometric does not tell us what to use as a barrier. We need to keep dirty supplies off the bedside table that the patient will eat on.
Thank you Dr Lee 🙏
Please where is the place is? I'm watching the video for practice before going for exam
Hello, This skill is on catheter care. I am not sure about your question. Catheter care is performed in the private area.
@txcnaskills2599 thank you for responding.
Yes I understand that. I finish my class just trying to find places to go take exam.
Hi dr. Lee in this skill when we finish we don’t have to replace the berrier under the patient with a new one ?
Hello Ventura, You don't have to replace the barrier under the patient with catheter care. The only skill that requires you to leave a barrier under the resident is PeriCare.
@@txcnaskills2599 ok, thank you for answering dr. Lee
You so good !!
Thank you Mary Mary. I hope you subscribe.
hi on cath cath once we are done and we are putting supplies away basin etc and then i removed gloves and wash hands -are we allowed to do all that and remove privacy blanket with no gloves on?
Hello Raquel,
You must have on gloves when putting away the dirty towels and cleaning the basin. Look at number 3. Prometric's skills checklist states the following:
Does the candidate:
1 Greet resident, address by name, and introduce self? (IC)
2 Provide explanations to resident about care before beginning and during care? (IC)
3 Wear gloves while providing catheter care, cleaning equipment, and handling soiled underpads, washcloths, and towels?
@@txcnaskills2599 is privacy blanket considered that?
We were told to wash hands after the gloves then go back remove privacy n closing steps
Now i am getting confused.
Should we wash hands at the beginning of every skill?
Hello Julie, You will actually wash your hand with running soap and water for the first skill. After the first skill you will just tell the evaluator that you will wash your hands at the appropriate time.
Curious why the same dirty gloves to touch the patient and the call light as well as the curtain
Hello, Prometric does not grade against the student if the student touches the call light or curtain with gloves on. This is not a requirement in the skills checklist.
The facilities I've worked at never have enough washcloths to do it this way.
You may want to speak with the administration about the issue.
So we don't have to dry catheter as soon as we are done washing and rinsing it ?
You must Wash, Rinse, and Dry the Catheter. Most people dry the catheter immediately after washing and rinsing, BUT, Prometric will not count it against you if you dry the catheter later. The key is to wash-rinse-dry before saying I am finish with the skill.
You must also Wash, Rinse, and Dry the front genital area.
Believe it or not I got this skill
Can't see anything in this video, we were taught to cross legs and arms roll patient over place pad or chux.
Hello, The steps you speak of ARE NOT tested during the state exam. Those are personal choices to make when providing catheter care. No where does the state require students to cross legs and arms and roll a patient to place a pad/chux under the patient.
Is turning the patient onto the side mandatory? @TX CNA Skills
Hello Fatema, positioning a resident on the side is a skill that a candidate may be asked to perform during the state exam in Texas.
Can I touch the call light with dirty gloves?
Yes, Prometric will not count that against you.
I thought we were to give patient call light at the end and definitely not with the same gloves we were doing bath with
Hello Jackie, I try to remember to give the call light during the closing at the end to be consistent. I am sorry if the video was confusing to you.
Can the basin touch the sink?
Hello, Prometric will not grade you on the basin touching the sink. So, my answer is yes the basin can touch the sink.
This is for Texas right
yes, and ant state that test under Prometric.
I see you didn’t removed your gloves before you closed the curtain
Hello Nahomie, Removing the gloves when closing the curtain is not a requirement. Did you see it as a step?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love ya right back,
Dr Lee hey 💖💖 do you have an email 📧 my question can’t be on here
Hello Phyllis,
I don't have a public email, sorry.
So is it providing catheter care and then peri care? But without cleaning the buttocks
Hello Ashantiana, That is correct for Prometric guidelines.
@@txcnaskills2599 thank you so much for the videos! I take my skills test tomorrow and I’m so nervous.
Hello. Dr Lee I need your assistant on how to proceed . can you contact me?
Hello Raquel, Can you place a general question here? Please don't place anything person online.
