This was pretty much filler but it's so cool David Marks got to do a lead vocal, and his rhythm guitar playing is fun to hear so prominently. Furthermore, David was a mere 14 years old when he made this.
So innocent at the time. David Marks was such a cool 14 year old and I believe this was recorded before they used the wrecking crew! Filler for an album but so right for the time...
I'm 4 years late to your comment, but yes this is from before Brian employed the help of The Wrecking Crew. This cover is on their first album Surfin' Safari, it was not until their eighth album The Beach Boys Today! that Wrecking Crew musicians began to feature heavily in their studio recordings.
@@susanpowers1492 Mine too! I heard it on the radio when I was a little child and it burned into my brain and legs! I like this kind of music still today!
Yes, this may be one of the few videos to have David Marks. Al Jardine decided to go to dental school (!) and left the band in 1962. The Beach Boys began having wider success and Al asked if he could return to the line-up. There was no room for two rhythm guitarists and so David was asked to bow out. I think David may not have been upset at that time, but perhaps later he did have some regrets. He's now back in the fold having toured and recorded with the reformed band this year!
David Marks was a friend of Carl's and was in a couple of the early recordings. I don't know what he looks like, so that might be him. He later joined the group officially, and is now part of the "original" Band touring this year with Brian.
My question to Chris Dolmetsch is, were you there and if so, why would Brian or Murray ask David to bow out especially after they both expressed opinions that Brian could indeed write songs for a much larger band.
David Lee Marks is actually one of the 5 signatory Beach Boys! After decades of conflict and court cases, Michael Edward Love does INDEED own total control and title toTBB name. He and Bruce Johnstone continue legally to tour as "The Original Beach Boys" without Brian, Al and David since their 50th celebration in 2012. Sad, but true.
Mike Love does not 'own' any control or title to The Beach Boys name. Brother Records Inc owns the it. Mike Love legally leased exclusive rights to tour under the Beach Boys name. Hope this clears any confusion.
Anthony Mollica.....Thanks for your reply! D.L.'s comment above states that David Marks is "one of the 5 signatory Beach Boys". I don't know if that's true, if it means that David was IN the group before Al, or who was actually & legally in the group first, but I was told that David replaced Al, when A.J. went to dental school. Don't think he got his DDS or stayed in school very long, but I'm wondering when he left the group, and when he returned? I think that once Al came back to the BB after his "school days", he never really left the group again (maybe not until 2012?). But I get the idea that David's been in and out several times between 1962--20??. Guess if he wasn't working with another group, they would call him if/when they needed him, but I'd still like to see a time line for the spot they shared?? 10-5-17

It was Carl Wilson who sung this actually
The Greatest Band of all time the Beach Boys.
Very true.
My mother says that she is a Beach Boys fan~a~tic
@@blakenapier3125 My grandpa was one....
Agree 100%
❤Happy Anniversary to this song,released in July 1st 1970,a great good year😂😂😂😂❤
The only Beach Boys song with David Marks on the lead vocals. Cool stuff.
Never heard it before, great.

Nice compilation. The early Beach Boys at high school performing "Surfin`"
This video is a lot of fun!
Great job on Eddie's classic song and a perfect video to go along with it!
One of my early favorites!

Great job love your sense of humour and creativity!

Great work putting the video together with a great song !!!
OUTSTANDING !!! Thank you for making !!!
Yes! Chapeau!
such an innocent fun time, sure miss it
Carl Wilson on lead vocals along with producer Nick Venet.
This is the best and closest version to the classic original - even down to the backing vocals and guitar rift....
No. Have you actually "LISTENED" to the original by Eddie Cochran?
@ Of course I have. Read what I said properly. The main vocals are not similar but backing vocals are similar as well as the guitar rift
Super! Thanks :0)
Oh, hot stuff!
Good Cover.
Summer
David Marks in an interview said he left the BBs because he thought he could start his own successful band
@mdefil23 Haha thanks! Yeah I did make it. I just used some 1960s stock footage and the "Surfin Safari" video.
I'll be honest I first heard this performed by Rush....and as a nerd of the 80s....thats going to be the defininate version for me.
how about original Eddie Cochran version from 1958?
I like David Marks' little hair flip haha
Yes, it`s so cute! I like it too!
David Lee Marks
0:36 Carl Wilson as a child?
Looked like him
The film at 0:14 is surely the same as the Azusa concert during Surfin' Surfari, isn't it?
I think yor`re right!

Dance.....
First time ever hearing this. Pales in comparison to Eddie Cochran's version and I am a fan of The Beach Boys.
QUE PENA.CON UDS PERO ESTOS NO SON LOS BEACH BOYS
SON IMITACIONES!
Can we talk about how cute Dennis Wilson and David Marks are?
Hey, Brian was sporting that greaser look pretty well here! 😎❤
No
Yea, you don't see so much of Dennis in this video. But he became the sex symbol of the group. And David was obviously cute too.
I actually read somewhere David Marks stayed with the band for awhile even after Al Jardine left. He left because he had a conflict with Murray.
Yes.
0:41 david was only 14
Chuck Connors
Aclaro que soy fan de beach boys , aunque debo reconocer que tomaron "prestadas" algunas notas de la melodía de Bonnie Morronie
Good, the Beach Boys put their own stamp on this hit song.
This is a great song and there are a lot of good versions of it but the Beach Boys version is by far the best of all.
Sounds more like they stamped on it.
What film is the clip from that has Chuck Connors in it?
Is that The Rifleman near the beginning?
Yes, looked like Chuck Connors.
Zeppelin.......Definitely Chuck Connors but clip might not be from "The Rifleman? 9-29-17
Zeppelin ♫ sure looks like Chuck Conners
I thought it looked like him
Yes, Chuck Connors in a scene from the 1956 film "Hot Rod Girl."
Sorry I meant even after Al Jardine Rejoined*
They were kids when they recorded this. The were so talented
there's no way that's Al jardine right?
Wow Beibers haircut and flip thing was just recycled Beach Boys. I guess that doesn't surprise me
Na its David Marks
Should be called the Beach Children
What is the band actually playing here?
Surfin Sufari
HAHA ... the joke's on somebody cause The BEACH BOYS are singing Surfin' Safari in these clips, not Summertime Blues.
Hmm....not bad. It kinda works even though it doesn't work.
It doesn't work. Worst rendition of this song I've heard, to be honest.

+Darius Lawson Brian doesnt give a hoot. PETSOUNDS 50 this year.
Darius Lawson.......So, Al Jardine wasn't one of the original five?? 9-29-17
He was but left for college, thats when David came in.

Don’t yell at me- I am die hard Beach Boys fan, but this song just doesn’t work for their sound/style of music….. the original is the best
I never cared for that song. It has been recorded to death.
Better than Metallica 👍

Uh oh someone's politically butthurt.
