As an owner of the pre-facelift 2017 Discovery and a 2021 Defender 110, I think that you hit the nail on the head. The Discovery is a much better family car than the Defender. It’s more luxurious, and can fit a ton of cargo and 7 full size adults, whereas the D110 is more utilitarian and off-road ready tan the Discovery. I’m keen to try out the I6 MHEV D5 and compare it to the supercharged V6 in mine. Great video as always!!
I love your perspective here. I am a Jaguar XE owner and love hearing from other JLR owners. I noticed the difference between the two when looking in the showroom. The defender is large, but somehow smaller in terms of cargo space. The discovery has much more plush second and third row seating.
@@esteban75lover23 the XE was my favorite car in the segment from a driving dynamics perspective. I had an XE S loaner a few years ago and I didn’t want to give it back. The second row seats on my Discovery are terrible - the cushion is so hard. I know that they fixed that issue with the mid cycle refresh.
@@cincyrovers Yeah, the XE is really amazing, I am very satisfied with my purchase. Also, yeah, I was comparing a 2021 Defender 110 SE with a 2021 Disco R-Dynamic S.

Spot on comments on who buys the Disco and Defender. In the UK Disco sales have crashed with the mark 5 due to its looks - Disco 4 owners are holding on to their cars (which are holding on to their value better than the 5 as a result) and now buying the Defenders. Unfortunately LR did not sort out the unfortunate rear end treatment with the recent facelift (bum-lift?) but you can get an aftermarket kit to “centre” the number plate.
Spec the roof bars takes your eye away from the rear hump and get the kit fitted that centre's the rear number plate and you end up with a good looking vehicle. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I think you’re spot on in terms of demographics. All I see are mums in Discos and dudes in Defenders. JLR May just have stumbled on a way to double vol off 1 architecture.
It's a good job the Discovery and Defender are made on the same track at J.L.R. Nitra Slovakia plant. When demand drops for one they can make more of the other, smart move. East European engineering at its best.
I had a new defender for a bout 3 days, gave it back ( delivered with wrong spec ), the boot space is unworkable.I knew it was small, but I thought I can make it work. Now I know why you see them with all things hanging outside of it. It is sad, defender. is a good looking and capable car but almost unusable for long trips. They sacrificed the boot space so they can keep a fat dictator of a small county happy in the back seat. Since I had a second chance, I looked at a disco, and the boot space and practicality won. Don't be blinded by the looks of the defender, give the disco a chance, it is a much more usable car...
Nope. JLR stopped using 2.0l Ford engines about 4 years ago. Stopped using Ford V6 when they made the switch to I6. The V8 are now made by JLR too after buying the production line from Ford.
Wow!! The MPG is terrible!! for a mild hybrid car..I don't want to know what sort of MPG it would do without the electric motor. And the second problem, the complexity of having a petrol engine and an electric motor. I feel sorry for the person who buys this car after its 5 years old

Don’t understand why people in the US buy these. They are not attractive and are expensive in comparison to other choices. Not to mention more reliable options that also cost less. Range Rovers I get, but still overpriced.

The screen is convex, it curves out toward the driver.
I think he’s responded to this comment before, but I totally agree with you.
likely an attempt to minimize reflections, which are unavoidable when the overall slope of the screen faces up into the windshield.

Anyone know why the AJ300 in this model makes 355hp versus the 400hp it makes in the Defender?
