- In response to the question of whether Janie Liszewski, Eddie's second wife, feels "jealous at all" in light of Valerie's book about her relationship with Van Halen and her interviews promoting it, in which she discusses their love and how she was there when Eddie passed away in October 2020 following a long battle with cancer, Bertinelli said: "Honestly, I don't know. I mean, she moved out a few years before Ed died, so he was alone in his house for the last few years of his life. I know that she still loved him as well, and she was there the day that Ed died. So they were still trying to stay close and be in each other's life. But, yeah, she didn't live there."

I don’t know if they were together at the end or she moved out. To me irrelevant. As someone who has dealt with addiction in a family member a long time what you said was completely false and doesn’t work that way. There is no “cleaning up an addict” I wish you could trust me. First thing they tell you in Al Anon meetings about addiction is the 3 C’s, you didn’t Cause it, you can’t Control it, and you certainly cannot Cure the addict. Eddie simply chose late in life to stop. Sometimes they bottom out and get clean. Other addicts use until they are dead or jail and never seem to bottom out.

In my own experience I still loved my ex husband of 24 years. I left for valid reasons. I still loved him until the day he died 6 years ago. I took care of the estate for my daughters. My dad was my rock through the whole thing. No, Valerie prob shouldn't be doing the things she does. I believe it is regret based that EVH is gone and Wolf now is his dad's legacy. I was a big fan of Van Halen. Saw them in 1986. And collected many books about them. They are all a blur to me now, so I can’t say with absolute certainty of which book.
But I do vividly remember these comments about her cuz it was the first and only time I heard that said about her.
It was a very brief mention from someone really close to Ed. His guitar tech, I think.
He simply stated, “It was obvious to everyone who was close to Ed, that Valerie was only interested in Ed to get in on his fame and fortune. She was the worst thing to ever happen to him.”
Short and simple. There was a little more to his comment. Just don’t recall the rest with absolute certainty.
I think there was something about her desire to change him, too.

We don't know why his 2nd wife wasn't there. I do know I had a friend whose brother died from cancer. He didn't visit his brother.
He said to a mutual friend, "My brother may think I didn't care in the end, but I couldn't handle seeing him like that. I couldn't bear to see what the cancer did to my brother." You need to ask his 2nd wife why she wasn't there instead of drawing your own conclusions.
I also think Eddie was Valerie's one true love. She left because she couldn't handle his addictions. It's not easy living with an addict. And his infidelity.

Kind of tacky for Valerie to comment on Janie Laszewski. However the public never knew that she moved out a few years before he died. I never heard that before. So guess its ok since Ed alone is something that changes the dynamic! I seen all 3 VH era concerts, bought all 3 era CDs of VH, plus bought DLR, Extreme and Hagar CDs. It is very difficult to grieve and accept the death of a loved one. Add to that constant media poking and prodding and it’s nearly impossible. EVH was a musical genius. That did not make him a nice person. Imagine being taken advantage of by so many people for some money. You build up a thick skin to people and initially suspect everyone of wanting a piece of you. Let the man rest. He gave us all he could. Just be grateful he lived during our time.
