NPC Advantages: arboliva (seed sower) cannot be on the team because it gives a 1.3x boost to grass knot. intimidators (tauros, staraptor, arcanine), gardevoir (life dew, synchronize for burns), bellibolt (discharge, light screen), umbreon (thunder wave, synchronize for burns), drifblim (will-o-wisp), sylveon (charm, moonblast), and dudunsparce (thunder wave) are helpful.
Strategy: wait for orb steal, 3x body press. wait for infernape to use nasty plot. if your HP is high, terastalize into haze. if your HP is medium, terastalize into rest. if your HP is low, do not terastalize yet and use rest (small chance you survive and heal but most likely you get KO'd). terastalize and/or haze if you haven't already. rest if HP gets low. 2x iron defense, body press, iron defense, body press to victory.
Notes: blastoise doesn't stand much of a chance soloing with water tera because its only way to boost its attack or special attack is shell smash, which lowers its defense and special defense 1 stage for every 2 stages that it raises attack and special attack. iron defense can reverse the defense debuffs, but it has no way to reverse the special defense debuffs (without also reversing the attack and special attack buffs). in duos, it would do better with water tera, with a supporter buffing its attack (e.g. coaching or special attack (e.g. decorate), or debuffing infernape's defense (e.g. thunderous kick) or special defense (e.g. acid spray).
Pros: supereffective tera type matching base type, excellent defense and special defense stats. resists flare blitz before terastalizing, resists tera blast after terastalizing, iron defense buffs 2 defense stats, rest heals full HP bar. haze cancels nasty plot by wiping everyone's stats. body press has 80 base power, 100 accuracy, and deals supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. it uses the defense stat rather than the attack stat when calculating damage (which makes more efficient use of EVs and nature). shell bell heals when attacking, an amount equal to 1/8 of damage dealt.
Cons: weak to grass knot before terastalizing, which has 80 base power due to blastoise's weight. mediocre HP stat, outsped by infernape
