Entire Subnautica community: I am not ready to die but I want to scan it.
I remember getting killed by the reaper while trying to scan it
This is the way
Bro NOT THE SCANNER
I scan all leviatan
Its like "i know is gonna eat me. but is it scannable"
I do actually wish they would add something as ridiculously scary as this, even if it only had a .00001% chance of spawning. Something that instantly reminds you that you're nothing but a tiny speck.
Considering there’s no spawn rates in this game I don’t know why they’d do that.
The ghost leviathan is actually a plankton at the bottom of the food chain in the void. Creatures like this thing used to be commonplace down 4K+ meters, but kharaa killed them all off when the asteroid hit. The only reason any creatures are still alive on the planet is because the sea emperors (which were the equivalent of fish in the void) adapted to deal with the bacterium.
@@alphastronghold715 I’m like 99% sure this isn’t true.
Did you know that you can't make out a single star when looking at a universe? A galaxy in the universe is like a star is to a galaxy. And our sun is thousands of times bigger than earth, but it's actually incredibly small compared to some other stars. And we're a speck on the earth.
@@gaughodge4781 you know, not a single fact about sizes of something in space can scary me since I've learned about space voids. That shit is REALLY MASSIVE and knowing that there are areas of hundreds millions of NOTHING which even light will travel for a absurdly long time is a very good reason to cry in your pillow.
14:00 The most terrify moment was seeing the creature revealed in the sonar.
Yeah
Haaaa nope.
@@A-bit0 haaaaa yep
@@RegenAgent aren't you dead xd
Would have been even scarier if it was just the head, and then next sonar it was closer and more of it was revealed
“How does a creature like this survive?!”
According to subnautica, it doesn’t.
@@SkullkeeperVSK It probably is on a similar level with sea dragons in population density aswell
@@SkullkeeperVSK There’s probably at least maybe 100 in the nearby void area if we assume they’ve been around for a while. You gotta consider that they need a gene pool and to have evolved from similar creatures to exist at all to begin with. It just depends if they’re near extinction or not.
@@SkullkeeperVSK Do you think Ghost Leviathans could supplement their nutritional needs? Ghosts seem to only have a small amount of muscle in their bodies with everything else being liquid and shell; not much protein or nutrition for a Gargantuan to gain from them.
@@SkullkeeperVSK Also, take into consideration that the Gargantuan Leviathan has canonically been extinct for millions of years. Megafauna that could serve as substantial prey could've been plentiful in its time.
@@SkullkeeperVSK if they do pull a jurassic park then they should go find a waterworld.those are basically sandbox planets in the world of subnautica
I swear, 14:07 is actual peak horror that is almost too perfect for a video game, you'd see a trope like that in movies. How the sonar pings, and 1 second later the massive body shows up accompanied by a big scary sound effect, and then it becomes invisible again. THAT is so fucking scary.
The unknown is always scary especially when you know it's here but not WHEN it will come out
Is subnautica VR a thing cuz that would be terrifying
@@yakume1851 yes you can play it in VR
I commented a similar thing
is there any movie that have a similar scene?
"How does this thing survive?" There is a gigantic drop off at the edge of the map, so I'd imagine it would live there and eat ghost leviathans. I like to think the gargantuan leviathan isn't extinct; the one in the lost river just got stuck while hunting and wasn't able to get out.
OooOoh nice one!!
That is interesting, imagine if they make an expansion where you can go over there and see even more skeletons, and find a huge cage with a gargantuan leviathan stuck in it.
In the PDA it says that the Gargantuan Leviathan died and over the time of three million years the planet shifted around the fossil.
"The fossilized remains of an extinct super predator. Its sheer size would have prohibited it from entering such an enclosed space, suggesting the geography of the planet has shifted around it over time. A true apex predator." -PDA

13:45 The Gargantuan might be the king of the food-chain but the Reaper is still the king of jump scares.
I would say he's very low on the food chain. Since where we play is a volcano on the planet basically meaning we only play on one food chain meaning there's many more food chains and probably bigger fish.
@@gaughodge4781yeah but that’s just speculating, it’s a low possibility that the other creatures aren’t going to be as massive or as versatile as the gargantuan leviathan considering a size that big they’ll need a lot of space to manoeuvre around in order to survive.
what if it spawned farther out in the void where it fed on ghost leviathans, to give you another HUGE reason to not go there. Like if you managed to make it past the ghost leviathans, this thing just one shots whatever vehicle you're using.
Not just the vehicules you straight up just die with the last thing you see is but a fraction of its huge size

The gargantuan leviathan and other skeletal remains really makes us all feel like oceanographers for a time. For instance, how many other undiscovered leviathans are there on 4546B and how many extinct ones existed before our time, or perhaps do the types of species of the skeletons we find still exist somewhere, alive in the depths of 4546B? Absolutely no fear because the energy it would expend if it chose to chase you would massively outsize the energy in sustenance you would give it, thus slowly starving it. It knows this, so it would go hunt some sea emperors instead because those are big enough to actually be worth chasing
First of all, it’s subnautica, we got aliens displaying a doomsday device like a museum piece, and second, if you think the radar is scary, wait until you are gliding through the dunes at night without radar, and suddenly this Cyclops sized creature comes charging at you from the darkness with no warning.

@@kumar9346 That might be the case with what we know about earth creatures, but who's to say that big giant thing isn't set up in some way where it does actually feed of smaller things? And even then it's probably fast enough that it could catch you if you tried to flee, even in a seamoth, and even more so in a cyclops which would to it look not much different than a big ghost leviathan snack. Point is, nature doesn't care if it should or shouldn't do something, it'll still try and kill you
Imagine this was in the game, you get the sonar, just go on your business and then you see this in the dark.

The gargantuan leviathan probably goes into a dormant state when not engaged in hunting. It has large sensory organs that probably double as the bioluminescence bulbs. It feeds on other leviathans and possibly filter feeds when food is low. It’s like a sleeper shark. Being able to probably stay alive for years at a time while food grows around it. It’s definitely an omnivore as it would need to consume proteins much more often than not. Plants grow fast so yeah. Probably because of their large size they have a periods where a few wake up and then eat while others sleep. It’s also probably cancer resistant due to its large size in which it would get lots of cancer tumors. It might even participate in chemical making of proteins through consumption of chemicals and minerals in the water which might explain its biological bioluminescence which is a side effect. It probably feeds on reapers, ghosts, reefbacks, and other leviathans, which are a main source of energy for it. It probably also isn’t a picky eater and will eat everything it comes into contact with that’s not another gargantuan. It will have plenty of food on the bottom of the ocean. It is effectively the master of consuming all lifeforms. It probably naps in underwater caves which seem to be predominant on this planet. Theoretically the whole ecosystem is shaped by how many there are around an area.
It probably ate other massive extinct leviathans like the one with precursor lights around it in the Lost River
@@DragonSlayerknowsdawae we don’t know that they’re all extinct, maybe they evolved to handle extreme depths and live in the depths where the sensory equipment can’t reach. For all what we know that one wasn’t dead very long as the lost river probably experiences lots of silt shiftage due to reaper Leviathans and currents. If it died let’s say around 100,000 years ago, it would be covered in sand and silt. So it must have died around when humans began to devolve technology. And assuming this is thousands of years away, it might have been around during the late Bronze Age. If you were to explore this planet you might find a it’s secession in genetic heritage or them being in a dormant state. If they made subnatica 3 and have it be in a different part of planet 4546B, you might be able to find a dormant gargantuan leviathan. It’s possible that they still exist because of large prey items like the trapped monster in subnautica: below zero and the existence of other emperor leviathans. But it’s still possible that it’s extinct due to changes in pray size and such. But it’s such a cool concept to imagine.
Dude you just mate thet op or is this the truth if you mate it up je dan goed in making monsters bio
@@rolanddewit7160 it’s my theoretically analysis of it’s biological behavior
Honestly. The first message in this is a good theory. It would explain how such a massive lifeform can survive. Though, have you guys accounted for the fact that There are probably bigger levithans down in the void across the planet in areas we haven't explored? There are probably plenty of bigger levithans out there than this one
100% you should definitely do a moded playthrough.
We would all love that. Well most of us.

@@hugofox4529 that makes no sense he MIGHT do it just cus he hearted it that doesnt mean he will do it

14:08 Gargantuan leviathan: I SEE YOU
"Are you certain whatever you are doing is worth it?"
Man, even the AI knows when what you're doing is bonkers
that message was for reapers, but still cool because of the moment it started playing made it look like it was for the gargantuan xD
Time code please?
14:30 that’s literally just like a scene straight out of a movie. The sonar pinging rhythmically as the deep bass follows each whenever it reaches the leviathan. Oooooooo, I don’t even know if that’s cause of editing. There’s no way the game would be able to produce the sound like that in correspondence with the sonar and it detecting it. It has to be editing. And as such, that means it was REALLY freakin good. Absolutely Awesome
Aliens
It might be an effect from the base game?
@@master1900mc it literally is a base game effect iirc
Am I the only one that actually think it looks kinda beautiful? Especially with its bioluminescence? I don't know, seeing it glide like a serpent through the ocean so fluidly looks so... majestic. Like... a part of me would rather pet the darn thing and bask in its glorious presence than run from it.
Maybe I'm just weird lol
Not weird at all!
Maybe that’s part of its trap… to lure you in

the moment the reaper showed up was like perfect scary movie timing
I had a heart attack
but when he said "now lets go to the void for the bigger one" i though he was joking
I jumped when that happened
Yooo saw this comment & thought I already saw the moment. I didn't. Pretty sure I jumped 20 feet in the air.
"This creature remains stealthy until it has found its prey"
Gargantuam Leviathan: Don't mind me, just a 900 meter behemot sneaking through the sea *wissels inconspicously*
Now I am just picturing it hiding behind a single stalk of sea grass or a really thin pillar yelling "YOU CAN'T SEE ME!"
But given its size would anyone or thing want to argue with it?
Well fuck me, he needed a sonar to see it. That's bout as hidden as it gets.
In deep waters, you would never know it's there until it made a sound.
Don't underestimate the darkness of the sea and it's ability to hide things you really don't want to see.
@ Cho Gath behind a bush
Wow~~ Super cool modders remade these creatures, especially the Gargantuan Leviathan :O
13:46 the scream was timed perfectly with reapers mouths lmao!
"How would this thing even survive around here?" Well given that they are presumed extinct and the only one that exists in the base game is a skeleton... they can't.
yea they obviously couldnt cuz something with that mass and size has to eat pretty much every second it lives and eventually some smaller creatures would gnaw away at the giant fuckers leading to their eventual death
@@dumdum6711 thats if we base its metabolism off things we know but something like this could have a system similar to a bears hibernation cycle where it eats so much then goes into a less active state or it might have multiple methods of nutrition intake not listed
@@thewatcher9778 it could even have a symbiose with other creatures all around him, and just need to eat to grow.
@@dumdum6711 you have to remember that the location of the first game was in a volcano that raises far above the avg sea floor (The abyss). i would assume it ate other leviathans like the common Reaper or ghost leviathans that inhabit open waters. i am sure they would provide a proper source of nutrients. maybe they ate something. maybe like the MUTO's they absorb radiation.
@@thewatcher9778 this is a possibility but prolly unlikely considering its large size cuz like where is this big ass thing gonna hibernate? not like it can fit in any caves and if it just slept on the sea floor it would eventually get eaten by smaller creatures nibbling at it
13:46 that is absolutely priceless.
That was like a horror movie
dude I shit myself, that made me jump so hard lol
I pooped my pants.
I have screamed like this at this game, only game to make me do so
The audio in this video in particular is amazing.
idk why but this was so relaxing to watch
Fun fact: the adult gargantuan leviathion can swallow the cyclops when finished
Edit: it can swallow reapers and sea dragons whole and can 3 shot adult ghosts
Just imagine being in the cyclops just casually going from A to B when suddenly your entire Sonar is being filled with one big red dot and the next thing you know is the adult leviathan charging at you and swallowing you in one chomp

I think the gargantuan leviathan would work as something that literally would have no interest in you, your seamoth, or prawn suit. But you make a Cyclops and you better hope you don't go into it's territory.
