Me as a 80's Barbie doll collector i always use conditioner for their hair, it feels so much softer and shinier and it is easy to calm through their hair and just let it air dry and it's all new again. I do agree that some dolls haven't that much hair as the Superstar dolls from 1983-1984 you can tell the deference between them but i must say that my "Twirly Curl Barbie" and "Horse Loving Barbie both from 1982 have great thick rooted hair, maybe it depens on the country they where made, because my first "Great Shape Barbie" that i got in 1984 had much more hair then my second "Great Shape Barbie" that i bough a couple years ago.

I had Whitney! Her name was Princesa Laura here in Spain. I just had 2 fashion dolls: her and Great Shape Skipper. I've got a pic of myself with each one 😊. I gave Whitney to a cousin when I grew up, it's a very happy memory (Skipper is still here, hehe...)

You did a great job but I agree, the crimps are too small. I recently purchased a crimper from Amazon with 4 different plates since I didn’t know which size would look like the original when restoring my Totally Hair Whitney.
And I believe the one you have is the Malaysian version, her bangs should be curled to the side, unlike the Chinese version whose bangs are fluffy and curled to the front

You did awesome on the restoration and yep the hair of the totally hair dolls is a nightmare to restore because it usually is knotted all the way up to the roots! XD
The sequin top of Dream date Barbie is one of my least fave pieces ever made the fabric they used is such a weird choice, it is NOT pretty and it is so shapeless!!!!

I always prefer brunette Barbie dolls over the blondes, there is one called Barbie as Snowhite that is a ballerina and she totally looks like my older sister and doesn't really look like traditional Barbie even her eyes are a grayish blue instead of the traditional color they use!
I only have the base doll but not a single piece of her outfit!
Here in Europe returns are only allowed if the item is in a sealed package and unused so being cheeky is not an option... :C

I do love Whitney. I gravitate towards blonde or raven black haired dolls. I got a hawaiin barbie 1975 steffi mold a while back, and I pulled her out the other day and dressed her up. I didnt realize I like the steffi mold this much lol.
