What fun. Malibu PJ is one of my all time favorite dolls. I'm your mothers age because the Malibu dolls were everywhere in my childhood. They remind me so much of that era hippie laid back period. The Malibu dolls were barefoot and many fashion packs in that era were shoeless. We thought nothing of this because we were used to barefoot hippie folks! You would find these dolls shoeless in the backs of vans and on front lawns. Barbie in this counter culture era was less fashion oriented and more adventure oriented. We had a camper and an A frame tent.Very bohemian. PJ was usually presented as a free spirit friend of Barbie and I thought she was so breezy and cool!
You know, I was dressing my Malibu barbie in a best buy orange capri length jumpsuit the other day, and I could not for the life of me find shoes that went with the capri length. I thought she looked better without shoes. So what you said about the dolls being barefoot makes sense! I see PJ very much as a free spirit too. I currently have her dressed in the multicolor patch print long skirt and a cropped peasant style yellow top. She feels very bohemian.
I saw somewhere, possibly on dontcallmedoll that during the seventies, fewer plastic accessories were made for the dolls due to the oil shortages. We have similar taste! Love your channel!
Thanks for sharing part of your story! When I was a kid I Loved the “girl aisle” I also had a younger sister who was close to me in age and friendship! In a way I had her to hide my own shame or embarrassment by being in that aisle! Thankfully though my parents did buy the Barbie’s or dolls I wanted as a kid! Cool story though about the Mattel employee and the doll hair!
That's cool you had a sister close to your age. I had a brother close to my age and he was very much into the "boy toys". So unfortunately he would tease me about liking "girl stuff". I'm happy I got to meet that employee for Mattel! Really made my day!
@@somelikeitvntg I also had an older brother close to my age 😅 he kinda teased me too about the girl toys stuff, but ultimately he was as an awesome older brother who really looked out for me when other kids picked on me! We shared a room for years growing up and he got used to my dolls and girls toys. Me too! That would be such a cool experience! Keep up the good work, I love your channel!
I'm going to need to go to this doll show sometime! Not to be bossy but just to add to your knowledge , the skirt for your black Barbie goes to fashion photo barbie, and the pink tights goes to a 90s Barbie that bends at the legs ,rocker Barbie tights don't have feet . the Malibu sweater is a ken sweater she's in great condition!
Good for you Manny! Another great doll haul Doll shows are fun I went to them in the 80's and 90's I went to a vintage toy show last year and picked up some vintage outfits but not complete Vintage for them is kindergarten for me because a lot was Funko pops, recent comics and stuff that mostly went back to the 80's Vintage to me is the 50's and 60's when igrew up Next to the doll outfits I scored the only things vintage there were my sister and ! Thrift stores and flea markets are fun places Cheers Manny Happy Hunting!
That’s awesome that you went to Sherri’s doll show. I was in the area but couldn’t go. You got really good deals. The 1980 Black Barbie has been on my list to get but she’s expensive and hard to fine. The clothing was at a good price especially the Mod clothing. P.J is one of my favorite characters especially the Malibu PJ.
I'm sorry you couldn't make it! Maybe you can come to the next show! I'll probably be there too. I saw someone in the LA area find black Barbie at a flea market. I was so suprised! Do you follow jayroberts2000 on insta? He posts his fleamarket finds and he's the one who found her! And Yes! PJ has some amazing dolls.
@@somelikeitvntg Yeah im going to try and go to the next one in February. I agree, it’s amazing what you find at flea markets and the prices you’re able to find them.
I can definitely relate to those feelings as a boy liking dolls growing up. My grandma supported me having them so it was my favourite place to be. I had jewel hair Midge! There is also an AA version of Jewel Hair Barbie! Add her to your list❤
Love, love, love the orange and yellow outfit! It's very Yukko chan and also the red jacket with hound's tooth collar is very similar to a Jenny jacket I own! Yaaaay for a black Steffie! For the spotting on the Malibu you can try the zit cream to prevent it from spreading... She's in great condition! And 40 dollars for a mint in box mermaid was a great deal! The boots are all clone except for the cowboy white ones!
Love your Barbie haul! Wish my daddy knew your dad when we were kids. He would’ve let your dad know that it’s ok to let you play with dolls. And yes, I’m 35 and call my father daddy 😂 My daddy framed one of my glass slippers… I’ve gotta find it so I can show you
Prices are too much right now so i haven't gone to this show. I did find Neptune Fantasy on ebay for a really good price a couple of days ago. I use to go the Disneyland doll show with my mom in the 90s.
Manny do you have one particular doll you like the most? Mine is the brunette vintage flip and freckle Midge which I think I mentioned ( ad nauseum) I really only wanted one doll with a massive wardrobe but got the chance to get more vintage dolls
@@somelikeitvntg It was a paper doll set but I made a mistake It was Malibu Barbie,Ken, Skipper and Francie I just checked in my book on Barbie paper doll collectibles book but there paper dolls of PJ but not Malibu Sorry Manny! Cheers!
I have 3 Black barbies ....one boxed with a really full head of hair. Your missing the red drop earrings and necklace.I use to go to these shows all the time!!!I thought she stopped doing them.I payed under $40 for the boxed black barbie about 15 years ago.I walked into a store at griswolds in Claremont Ca and there she was!Yours is missing all the acessories so $60 a bit high to me.Have all the clothes you showed...most i got on EBay in those fun grab bags!I also have the repro and several vintage malibu Barbies. That out fit doesnt go with it.The eyes look more like my repro........wider.
Sherri's doll show is still going! I grew up in Claremont! Griswolds doesn't exisit anymore. Also keep in mind inflation, so $40 could be close to $58 in todays money. I wish I collected vintage Barbie 15 years ago. Their values have since changed. You could fetch a good deal for your 1980 boxed black Barbie now a days!
yes I remember my 1st doll show. I was in Aw of it all. Also as a kid I begged my parents for a malibu ken instead of a GiJoe. I got the typical comment,"that's for GIRLS". Eventually I got him! I still have him after all these years, and all of the malibu friends
Im so happy you go5 black Barbie, you deserve herrr
ty :)!
The jewelhair barbie just gave me so much nostalgia 🥰☺️
Black Barbie is from my childhood I love her!!! ❤️💛❤️💛❤️💛

No problem , just trying to help you out so you know what you need to complete your dolls and their fashions (of you choose to do so).
Good haul👍🏽That sun valley fashion is one of my favorites! Can’t wait to see your Malibu collection grow 😊

Will the zit cream treatment get rid of the spots?
