Correction: the Muv Luv Psychedelica games are also available on steam! However right now the only way to get them physically in the west is on the vita.

@@Ad-us8vjpersonally I prefer the oled for the better screen the colours and deep blacks look amazing and I feel the oled model feels more premium but you do have worse battery life than the 2000 model and a proprietary charging cable so it's up you what you'd prefer really :)
The slim is also well slimmer lol and a lot lighter so that could be a pro or con depending on what you prefer

You have a good-sized Psvita physical collection. Psvita is one of my favorite underrated handhelds. Sony gave up on the Vita. Way too soon, but Indie games gave the Vita a longer life span. I love collecting for the Vita because of its unique library. I originally played Trails of Cold Steel 1 for the Vita and had a wonderful experience, and it got me into the Trails series!😁👍

    • @orbalology

I played the Cold Steel 1/2 games on there initially as well! (though on my modded system). I was amazed how different the approach was from the Sky games :)

Welcome to Vita Island Emily! That's a pretty good collection you picked up despite starting late. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has both a modded Vita Slim and an OLED to play the physical collection. I was fortunate enough to start collecting most of my games when GameStop started selling the preowned copies for 12-25 bucks back in 2016-18, (I have new copies of games as well, but back then I had to be really frugal with my game collecting by buying preowned copies). By the time 2019 came around, you had to ask the GameStop clerk for a printed list of what they had in stock since GameStop was still selling them, but did not want to provide any shelf space for them. The only thing that I'm missing from my collection that I really want is Tale Of Hearts R. GameStop was selling it for 18 bucks back in the day, but unfortunately I didn't pull the trigger. and now the physical price has tripled. I am a fan of the Tales series how you are to the LOH Trails series. Love your channel and collection set-up! Keep up the good content!

Not exclusive to the Vita entirely but Dissidia Duodecim and The Force Unleashed (PSP) are highly underrated. The Vita Ports of Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 and Split Second are actually pretty solid. And if you haven't played Threads of Fate, it's one of the few available ways to do so. LOVE that game.

Might I suggest Utewarerumono: Mask of Lies and Utewarerumono: Mask of Truth. I got those for the PSVita a long while back, they fit into a strategy RPG meets heavy on the visual novel aspects. One of my favorites. Also God Wars, but also a visual novel strategy game mesh and was released on the Switch as well where I have it there too.

I own these on the PS4 actually! Heard the performance & load times are a bit better on there (& wanted it to go with my prelude PS4 game too 😅). God wars I have on the Switch - I think that one has the DLC or something making it the 'complete' version. But not bad choices for others to consider on the Vita!

I would love to see a port of Muramasa Rebirth to the Switch. I loved the Wii version, but never owned a Vita. I'm really not someone that double dips with their collection, but for this game I might.

I hope so too because Muramasa is one of my favorite Vanillaware titles. The DLC Rebirth received was great as well, as it introduced 4 new original stories with characters that play vastly different from each other. The Nekomata, the cursed ninja and the one starring the Oni girl were my favorites.

I played the Code: Realize trilogy on the Switch and I liked the experience via the Switch, just for the fact I could switch between a bigger screen (TV) and a handheld device. From what I know, I believe in the rereleases, Wintertide Miracles (last game) has a few extra story scenes (unvoiced) that are extremely short, so if you go with the VIta version, you aren’t missing out on much.

I bought a Vita just to play Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star because even now years after release it's only available for the Vita and PS4, and I wasn’t about to buy a PlayStation given I was a college student then lol (I still don’t have a PS).
I absolutely LOVE the Psychedelica games, some of my favorire VNs ever, but they're both available on Steam now so I don’t recommend buying a Vita just for those. But Sweet Fuse was only ever in the Vita and PSP and I really enjoyed it!

      @orbalology  7 месяцев назад +1

Oh I may be mistaken, but I think Umbral Star is available physically on the Switch now! Along with Link. I want to say I own one of those now and have the other on my to-buy list. But the Psychedelica games are so good! It's good they're available on steam now - hopefully they'll see Switch or other console ports at some point.

I know Otomate just announced that 7'scarlet is getting a Switch release at least in Japan, and that game is on Steam, too, so there's hope yet for the Psychedelicas to be on the Switch - but we'll have to see if that carries over to the English versions 🙏

They're often described as cross between Ys gameplay with Trails/Persona social links.

The Tales series of Games is a fantastic series to jump into. The first one that I had played was Tales of Symphonia on my GameCube when I was kid back in the early 2000s. After jailbreaking my vita and finding out about Tales of Hearts R, I had to grab it to relive that real-time party combat game play and awesome story that comes along with it.
It's a good "sit down and play" game, especially if you're on a long flight.

It's honestly aggravating that they locked the Muv Luv trilogy Switch port behind a $200-$300 collectors edition. I was hyped when i heard that they were porting it last year amd then they announced that. It's confusing as to why they think this was a good idea. Hopefully it gets a release outside of the collector's edition down the line.

love vita videos, other channels i watch that do them all agree, when youve experienced vita, you trulyappreciate it a lot and see how big of a wasted oppertunity it was had sony not given up on it, (for those wondering, xbox performmed a kamikaze at e3 2013 and allowed sony to take the home console throne, so for the whole generation, sony allocated all resources to the ps4, giving up on the handheld market, and while it is sad, we had an incredible generation as the ps4 is now one of the best of all time thanks to the vita's sacrifice lol) but the vita is truly a special device, the switch owes everthing to sonys foundation it left with vita, all vita franchises migrated to switch now, so the vita is truly an important device!

Hi Emily! This is my first time seeing your channel as this video randomly showed up in my feed. Great to see a fellow Vita collector talk about their favorites. I've owned my Vita a week before launch (Sony did an odd pre-release and came out with the so-called "First Edition" that came with a 4GB card and a copy of Little Deviants which was an Augmented Reality type game that I have yet to open up 😂) Seeing this system from launch all the way up to PSTV and the LCD version, I just wanted to give you some.of my favorites and suggestions as well.
The first three games I picked up within that window are Uncharted: Golden Abyss (absolute must play, I know you will love), Ninja Gaiden Sigma (I know this was released on a ton of consoles but at the time, I wanted it portable so it was a no brained for me) and Unit 13 (This is also a great Vita exclusive shooter and it was the last game created by Zipper Interactive, the team behind SOCOM US Navy Seals). If you like shooters, Unit 13 may be worth it.
As time went on, I got Ragnarok Odyssey (a Phantasy Star Online / Monster Hunter style Action RPG based on the Ragnarok Online series), Dynasty Warriors Next (a decent, well playing game in that series) and Soul Sacrifice (an early exclusive that has a unique sacrificial mechanic that you use to get more powers in hopes of defeating your opponent.)
Like yourself, I also have Muramasa Rebirth (was so glad that game was released because I missed the Wii version) and Tales of Hearts R (which was a Game Stop Exclusive in the US).
Since Vita did not have Monster Hunter, I embraced a lot of excellent, Monster Hunter style Action RPGs on the system. In addition to Ragnarok Odyssey, I also picked up Toukiden: Kiwami (this was a more complete version of Age of Demons that was themed around Samurai, Japanese lore and mythology), the absolutely incredible Freedom Wars (I never played this online but the offline is still a ton of fun, story based and totally worth the playthrough. Think a Cyberpunk-ish Phantasy Star Online meets Attack on Titan with Mecha and robots in place of the Titans and you will get the general idea. Also, it seems enhanced when playing it on the PSTV and can be played with a PS4 controller which makes it feel like a console game). Also, in that genre, as you can probably tell by now, I'm a huge Phantasy Star Online fan as well as Monster Hunter so I imported a fun little single player action RPG called Phantasy Star Nova (which was a combination of efforts between SEGA and Tri-Ace, the team behind the Star Ocean series). Yes, it's in Japanese and in terms of reading, it will be difficult to regular players. However, I'm quite adventurous and will play despite my extreme lack of knowledge when it comes to reading Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. Once I got the menus figured out, the game was insane Ina good way! Giant Mecha Prawns with Rail Gina's and missile launchers? Absolutely! Chef Gundam in your party? You better believe it! I've been bugging the hell out of SEGA to localize this for release in the West on the Switch. I truly hope they eventually listen because we have not seen any single player Phantasy Star game since the NDS.
I also really enjoyed Dragons Crown. Originally, it was a times exclusive for the Vita. It has also been released on PS3 and PS4. It may be on Steam and Xbox One but I'm not sure at the moment. Currently, the Vita version is the only way to play that game portably. Along with Muramasa, this is another Vanillaware game I would love to see on Switch. We just recently got a demo for the upcoming Unicorn Overlord so hopefully, that's the sign we need for remaster or ports of other Vanillaware classics.
For anyone who wants to get into importing and likes custom firmware, despite the fact that a lot of RPGs do not have English versions, keep in mind that some games get English Translation patches which help significantly increase the playability of these games.
Anyway, I've rambled for way too long. Great video! Good luck with your channel and I look forward to more upcoming content. I could keep going on as I haven't covered my entire collection but it would take me forever to finish this. Have a great rest of your week and keep up the great work!

I owned the Vita while owning the PS3, PS4, and 3DS, and I think the only reason that it's called a RPG portable imo is because PSP. People see the Vita, see that had Persona 4 where the updated version was an exclusive and then just assume that it's got the wide variety of RPGs that the PSP did but the system has almost nothing compared to the PSP or its competitor the 3DS. I'm more of a Sony fan, but the Vita was the most disappointing console I've ever purchased next to the Wii U.
But while Vita has a few ports and I really do mean few because as many ports as it has, the 3DS has more exclusives as well as some of the best ports from the DS, atleast where the Atlus published games were concerned.
I own 97 Vita games. I kept throwing money at it to try and justify my Vita collection but it only made me feel worse and I just couldn't stop spending money on it to try and change that.
I will say though that the Vita does have one of the best RPG dungeon crawlers ever made imo. Not something you can play in public due to its extreme oversexualization, which is also not the reason it's one of my favorite dungeon crawlers, but the class system, combat, and overall design puts it easily at the the top 10 in the genre at the very least. That game is Dungeon Travelers 2. Dungeon Travelers 2 has multiple characters throughout the game that can be one of the base classes of a specific class. The game has 16 characters, one character for every single advanced class in the game, however, every character can be any class in their particular class type. Each base class can upgrade into two classes, and each of those can upgrade into another three advance classes based on the second tier of classes you chose to upgrade to, except for the mages which can upgrade to three different classes and then those can upgrade to up to four classes.
Dungeon Travelers 2 is developed by Sting, but if you want a game that I find extremely similair in design to the point that I thought Sting developed it(and simply because I've never once liked a Compile Heart game until I finally played it,) but a series of games you'll actually find similar to Dungeon Travelers 2's class system is the Mary Skelter games. The Mary Skelter games start off where you can choose one of several classes for your characters and each skill you learn from each class carries over to any of your other classes, allowing you to build your characters around all of the available skills you can gain and in some cases you'll have physical classes that have magic skills which are good to learn and carry over to a magic class. While each character in Dungeon Travelers 2 is sort of a class type upgrade to their original base class, your skills from each new skill tier is added on each class up.

I bought a Vita and Persona 4 Golden in a Black Friday sale a decade ago and for nearly that entire decade P4G was the only game I owned for it. It wasn't until some time last year while I was on a long travel trip that I visited some retro games store and saw among their stock the Vita versions for Final Fantasy X/X2 Collection and the standalone Virtue's Last Reward part of Nonary Games and thought "Eh...why not? Like I already own both of those on other consoles but I may as well buy them so that I have more than literally one game for this console after 10 years." Though I barely played the console when I got it and then just put it back in the box and onto my shelf where it proceeded to sit for years to present day. At least I own 3 games for it now. (Though I also did order the LRG Switch release for P4G)

Thanks for the recommendations! I will definitely be looking into some of the jrpgs you mentioned! I didn’t buy my Vita until 2020, more or less just to put it in my handheld collection, but I ended up really loving the system and wishing I had picked it up when it was more current. The OLED display is just stunning and I absolutely loved playing the first 2 Danganronpas on it.

Oh my god... What's wrong with people?
Why wouldn't people support consoles when they were active?
I got 70+ Games that I bought when the vita was active and alive.
Got two OG oled 3G vitas in pristine condition too, I'm never selling any of it, especially not to people who weren't there supporting the platform when it actually mattered.

I was with the vita since launch. I have over 40 physical titles. Vita store is still up, so you can snag some great ps1 or psp titles to play on the device. The rachet and clank collection is a good one for the system.

I really wish the Vita store had more PSP titles here, i believe the US has a really good list but the UK only has a few of the great PSP titles. Its sad that Sony just let the Vita die, its launch lineup were kinda the only exciting games we got.
(I haven't looked into it much myself but I have heard the localisation with the P4G ports is questionable. So maybe if you are picky about that stuff then the Vita version would be worth it.)

The PS Vita was definitely my favorite console to collect for as someone who is a fan of rhythm games, visual novels, and JRPGs.
While collecting for the console can be expensive, it got me interested in game importing, something I have carried over to my Switch collection.
Definitely get Gravity Rush for the Vita, such a great way to experience the game, and easily my favorite Vita title.
Furthermore, Dungeon Traveler's 2 is definitely worth playing. As someone who previously never played a DRPG, the game is surprising deep with character build customization and is very
friendly to new players of the genre. Once you get past the excessive fan service, there's a solid game there, glad I gave it a chance.
Finally, getting Trails of Cold Steel 1 + 2 on the Vita & PS3 allows you to take advantage of the cross save feature, weird that Sony didn't promote this more since it was basically a precursor to what the Nintendo Switch does.
