      Auston Bobber good point. Its kind of strange to say someone "is the next xyz", because theres a million thing that would have made them unique, nit just their playstyle their personalities, their motivations, etc. Its probably best to just use the players own name and see what they can do as themselves before comparing them to the great ones

      @onjah56 4 года назад +6

      I think you're misinterpreting the comparison, he was never said to be the NEXT Wayne Gretzky (correct me if i'm wrong) but I think what was meant is that the impact he has on the game for a player his size (not the tallest, not the most muscular, to be honest; fairly average build) is Wayne Gretzky-esque, meaning that he can dominate a game using high IQ and a wickedly deceptive shot (sort of like Gretzky's skillset) however, Wayne had a hockey IQ that nobody will ever be able to match. It was more just a comparison of skillsets, not the actual skill itself.

    I also think it's so stupid when someone compares a young, talented player to more than one amazing player, especially when the players they compares to are not even the same type of player, for example I have a friend who said that Larkin would be a players type like Yzerman, Shanahan and Lidström. I mean they all 3 are amazing, but their play-style are completely different. Shanahan had a more aggressive and more of a power forward kind of play-style, Yzerman could play tough, but his primary role was to be a play-maker and a game-director and make his teammates better, Lidström is more of a two-way defensive player with a lot of elegance and rather used his smarts rather than using his brawn. I hate comparing players in this way, but I would rather say that Larkin is more of a Zetterberg kind of play style, but as I said this is why I don't like to compare players in this way because Larkin is his own player just as Zetterberg was his own, like I said I do not like it.

    Lafreniere is at 2.19 points per game at age 18. When he was a year younger than Lafreniere, Sydney Crosby was averaging 2.70 points per game in the same league. The era was lower scoring than today too. So Crosby was probably much better. Lafreniere is obviously very good but a player at Crosby's level comes along only once every 10-20 years. Howe, Richard, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby. The only player since these guys who even gets in the same sentence is McDavid. Lafreniere is not one of these guys.

      Lemieux was injury plagued and played far less games than Yzerman despite being only slightly behind him on the leader board. Lemieux's ppg stats are consistent with Gretzky and the two of them stand in a league of their own, being a good 30% ahead of everyone else. As such, he's widely regarded as being better than Yzerman though obviously, your personal opinion is yours to realize.
      Other detail worth noting: this was '93. Lemieux had just raked in the Art Ross, Hart, Lester B Pearson, amongst others while Yzerman was a finalist for none and Lemieux was a good 20 points ahead of Yzerman in season scoring despite playing only 3/4 of the season while Yzerman had played the entire season.

    Bob McKenzie didn’t compare daigle to nhl legends, he compared them to top centers in the league his draft year. Sakic and Yzerman hadn’t won shit in 93. That being the number 1 compared to the others is just stupid. That was realistic given the potential he’d shown, to be a star center
