Tough to NOT say Lidstrom though. Lidstrom was a rock star in Detroit. I had went and seen the Red Hot Chili Peppers play a show at JLA the year he retired. They played in July or so?
The applause for them was loud... but when they brought out Lidstrom as a surprise, it was the LOUDEST I've ever heard the JLA, with the exception of the Darren McCarty goal when the Wings swept the Flyers in 1997.

My favourite player growing up was Wendel Clark the guys was heart and soul great shot bone crunching hits.

    • @malakaspawt3190
      @malakaspawt3190 21 день назад

I think Wendel Clark would have scored multiple 90+pts per season, if he had not suffered that terrible injury in his third season.
He had a better rookie and sophomore season numbers than Leclair and Neely, so I think he was supposed to have a higher ceiling.
Neely also had a high ceiling, though he managed to get into his prime before it was cut short during his 9th season (1991-92).
He returned in his 10th season and participated in the post-season, then scored 50goals in 49gp in his 11th season.
Neely's numbers dropped in his 2 last seasons, so he retired. He played 13 in total, like Clark.
Considering the Bruins got Oates in 1991-92, Neely easily would have scored 50 goals in each and likely 100+pts in 1992-93.
Leclair was the healthiest of the three, and played 16 seasons, including his 10gp rookie season with 3gp in the post-season.
Leclair's prime lasted the longest, about 4-5 years, but it took a hit when Lindros was no longer around.
This kind of proves the point that Clark and Neely had more offensive potential, then again does it?
Leclair should get some credit because his prime was right in the middle of the dead puck era.
You don't score 50 goals in 3 straight seasons simply because you're paired with Lindros, you've got to have chemistry.
Would have Selanne or Kariya score 105pts each if they hadn't been playing together? Anyway, I regress.
Clark and Neely had more clutch potential. We see this simply by looking at their stats in the playoffs.
Leclair played a lot more games as he missed the playoffs only in 3 seasons, whereas Clark missed them 9x, and Neely 4x.
Neely had the best prime technically, then Leclair, but Neely was more unfortunate with his health.
Clark was even more unfortunate, but he managed to play a long career.
He could never play the same, but then again, he never stopped playing tough.
      All three are legends.

However, the tone was actually set in a 1975 pre-season game at The Spectrum when Robinson and the Canadiens not only pounded the Flyers on the scoreboard, 6-2; but even worse in a third period bench-clearing brawl.
Schultz and his teammates were left mentally broken and knew they were in trouble after that game because they realized that fighting was not going to help them against the Canadiens. Respect the hell out of the cliff ronning pick but it’ll always be linden for me. I was born in 2001 and barely saw the end of his career but he’s always stuck with me. Getting older and I just looked into his stuff more and more and I truly believe there’s never been a better Canuck than him. There’s more talented players that have been on the team but he is the guy I think of when I think of the team to this day.

    a 64 year old NHL historian''s picks!
Pittsburgh - Mario Lemieux, greatest comeback in NHL history
Ottawa - Daniel Alfredsson, the heart and soul of the franchise, still!
Boston - Bobby Orr, any other pick is mindless
Colorado - Darren Helm, because he's my uncle's grandson.
NY - Eddie Giacamon, most underrated goalie of the 20th century
NYI - MIke Bossy, goal scoring machine, pure class
Florida - Matt Tkachuk! Finally they have some personality
    Montreal - Guy Lafleur
Columbus - Sergei Federov... well at least they had one superstar that played for them!
NJ - Laurie Boschman, too nice a guy to be ignored
LA - Marcel Dionne, so fun to watch
Sea - Joe D'Accord, still can't believe Ottawa let him go!
Toronto - Frank Mahovlich, most underrated player of all time, and pure class top to bottom
Dallas - Marty Turco, great puck handler
Minnesota Wild - Karill Kiprosov... plays like Marcel Dionne
Winnipeg Jets 1.0 - Teemu Selanne, incredible rookie year. Broke our hearts when he left for Anaheim
Edmonton Oilers - Paul Coffey, most fun to watch, what skater!!
SJ Sharks - Owen Nolan, tough!!
Anaheim - Paul Kariya, what if....
Vancouver - Pavel Bure, every other Canuck is the epitome of boring.
Vegas - Mark Stone, like a mini Mark Messier
Hartford - Davey Keon, because I gave my Toronto pick to the big M
Winnipeg Jets 2.0 - Dustin Byflugien... irreplaceable!!
Phoenix Coyotes - Jeremy Roenick, again, any other Coyote is boring in comparison
Chicago - Bobby Hull, wife beater, jack ass... but dear God what a player!!
Philadelphia - Mark Howe, would have had twice as much attention if his last name wasn't Howe
Detroit - Stevie Y!!! He's more Red Wing than even Gordie Howe!!
Carolina - Rod Brind'amour... how can ya not love him?
Tampa Bay - Martin St.Louis, gotta love a short guy that leads his team to a cup!
Nashville - Mike Fisher (Underwood), good player, great guy!!
Washington - Adam Oates, Mr. Assist!!
St. Louis Blues - Garry Unger, so underrated!!
Minnesota North Stars - Gump Worsley!!!!
Calgary Flames - Deserves the title after what he endured under Ballard
Buffalo Sabres - Gilbert Perrault, most exciting player to watch who's name isn't Connor!
Atlanta,- Ilya Kovalchuk - No fuss, no muss, no cups, just an amazing player!!
Quebec Nordiques - Marc Tardif, dominated the WHA, and good enough in the NHL!

the only way I can explain Haseks saves is that if he whiffed on a deeke, he knew where the shooter was going and got as much of his body into that place as he could. i know a lot of people hated him flopping around the crease like a fish out of water, but he did his job at the end of the day. One of the greatest of all time.

Another amazing thing about Hasek...he was drafted in the 10th round with the 199th pick by the Blackhawks in 1983. And he was traded to the Sabres for pittance...G Stefan Beauregard and futures.. His ascension to all-time great status was even more amazing because, despite having a great European career, he came from literally nowhere. Sometimes, all a feller needs is a chance!

    Tampa Bay = Enrico Ciccone
In those early days, playing in the giant Thunderdome with 30k seating, the way you filled the seats was to have someone go out and beat up other players. No one did it better than Ciccone, even leading the league in penalty minutes at a time when no one on the Lightning lead the league in anything.

Before the Sabres entered the league, my favorite team was the Blackhawks. My favorite player on that team was Stan Mikita, for a couple of reasons. While Bobby Hull got all the attention, Mikita was a steady player who basically just went out on the ice and did his job...and did it very well. Also my dad's name was Stanley, so... Tim Horton was that same type of player; the strong, silent type who did his job well without a lot of fanfare. I too was devastated the morning that Tim died. A terrible moment for all of hockey.

As a Blues fan, I was so mad when they traded Ronning and Courtnall to the Canucks and it potentially cost them a cup because with those two gone they lost their second scoring line and the team’s could focus on shutting down Hull and Oates. It was also stupid to sign Shanahan for a 2nd line scorer because it cost them Scott Stevens.

Boston - Nobody in the 20th century was as great as Number 4, Bobby Orr
New York Islanders - Mike Bossy as much as I love him, Denis Potvin was the best defenseman in the NHL after Bobby Orr retired (don't believe me, just ask him😅). Bryan Trottier is the last player to be the NHL's best player before Wayne Gretzky entered the league.
Montreal Canadiens- No argument, from me but it should be noted that in the 1979 Stanley Cup Finals, 3 months after the 6-0 slaughter of Team NHL by the Soviet National Team, Soviet coach Viktor Tikhonov called Bob Gainey "the best technical player in the world". He was the recipient of the Selke Trophy for the first three years of its existence. There were so many players to choose from that team.
Chicago - Denis Savard? Doug Wilson? Jeremy Roenick? Tony Esposito, Bobby Hull?
Quebec - totally agree but honourable mention should go to Réal Cloutier, Marc Tardiff and Alain Côté.

Marner the criticism is the cap hit 100%. And how it squeezed out Hyman and others. He was beloved and we figured he'd sign for 9M, but then cut throat fighting for every dollar just took us all by surprise and it broke our hearts. We thought he loved us and the team and winning above every dollar. Since then, he has been over criticized, but he did it to himself. His production in the playoffs is okay, but needs to be 11M good. If he was making 9M and Hyman stayed or we had 2M more to work with, we would still love him.
