      @Hbmd3E My bad, I missed this being the top fantasy hockey forwards list. I get it that these lists are always offensive.
      If you watch the last 2 seasons, Barkov affects the game more defensively than any other skater. Gretzky in the finals said he's the best defensive forward since Trottier. That means better than Bergeron, Kopitar, and Datsyuk. I'll take the Great One's call. Look, I'm not saying he's first or second just saying he's better than Sid and Drai. If you want to have an argument about Matthews in 3rd and Barkov in 4th, I think the case can be made.
      At the end of the day, Sid isn't who he used to be and his career to this point has been better than Barkov. But the pens have choked away playoff positions the last 2 seasons in the last week, and Barkov has carried the Panthers to the cup finals both years. Yes I get it he doesn't have the best fantasy numbers but he shuts down opposing lines and still manages to put up ppg numbers.
      The Drai case is simple. Over half of his points are a direct result of McDavid. Furthermore in the finals, Drai came up empty and was frustrated enough to throw a cheap elbow that was borderline suspendable. Nobody who wanted to keep playing in that series would have thrown that elbow unless they thought their team was better if both of them were off the ice. Barkov took the elbow and the cup home with him.

  • @alainnervedamaged1669
    @alainnervedamaged1669 3 месяца назад

    Alright, so we’ve got a section of this video where he says that the reason Marner doesn’t make the list is because, come playoff time, he gets real quiet, whereas a guy like Tkachuk has the playoff resume to push him ahead.
    Ok, let’s look at the two players and see if that actually makes sense, or if he’s relying on the narratives surrounding Marner and the Leafs’ lack of playoff success.
    Tkachuk career playoff stats:
    GP-71, G-24, A-37 with a +1 rating.
    Marner career playoff stats:
    GP-57, G-11, A-39, with a +11 rating.
    This means Tkachuk scores at a rate of 0.86 points per game. Marner scores at a rate of 0.87 points per game. So Marner gets a slight edge there… Fewer goals against when Marner is on the ice, compared to Tkachuk too.
    You can argue that Tkachuk gets into the corners and mixes it up, and provides the snot needed for playoff success, and that’s why he makes the list, and that’s a good argument…. It’s just not the kind of player Marner is, but he is very skilled defensively, and that shows up clearly in the +\- (Marner plays against other team’s top lines, and kills penalties.)
    I haven’t done the comparison for Matthews and people ahead of him on the list, but I bet he deserves a higher spot too. His performance dips a little in the playoffs, but not by a huge amount.
    Playoff success absolutely matters, but the Leafs failures have been team failures. It gets more clicks to lay it at the feet of a particular star player, but it’s not reasonable to do so IMO.

    Very good list. There's a couple guys I'm kinda shocked didn't make the list but at least one of them, Marner, you had pretty solid reasons for not including. I'm kinda shocked Rantanen didn't make the cut but I bet if this went to 13, 14 or 15 he easily makes the list.
    It's also kinda funny that for a list like this the top is so much more obvious than the bottom. For everyone McDavid is in a league of his own followed by MacKinnon and Kucherov in some order followed by Matthews and Draisaitl in either order.

    I believe Rantanen is a better forward with better stats than either Kaprizov and Eichel. He has had since 2018-19 495 pts in 405 regular season games. Those are better stats than Kaprizov, Eichel, Barkov and tkachuk. Crosby too. My list would've been different, but it's for fun.

      I am thinking this means more who is the better player, then who should have been drafted first. Mackinnon seems like the better skilled player. Both have cups now so you can't really use that argument either way. Barkov would need to keep up his defense and start hitting 100 points for the next 3 or 4 years and have another cup to add to that to say he was a better overall player.

    • @FalconPunch1505
      @FalconPunch1505 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, that was what I was getting at (who finishes as the "better" player). I find it interesting to look at re-drafts once the players of a class all retire. With MacKinnon and Barkov having 2 vastly different playstyles, it'll be entertaining to see how they finish their careers.

    • @nicka652
      @nicka652 3 месяца назад

      Barkov will always be undervalued because Defense in hockey is team oriented. I mean I'm not sure either team gets a cup of the pics are reversed, but Mackinnon's speed I think gives him the edge.

    I like your rankings. There is not doubt no body is as game breaking as Mcdavid as he is the best point producer in hockey. But what Mackinnon brings to the table in terms of intensity, speed, tenacity, physically and with his capabilities to bring a "i will do what it takes to not lose attitude" and not needing to rely on point production to make others around him better allows him to be one of the most all around players in hockey. But man oh man, the dawg is someone you want in your corner when the chips are down.

    Not bad list, but few changes I’d make. Crosby too high. He’s the best player of his generation, overall, but not necessarily last 5 years. Still have him top 12, but lower. Also, not sure about Kaprizov. I’d take Rantanen and/or Petterson over him every day of the week and twice on sunday. Also Eichel, big fan of him, but idk if I’d put him on the list. Ah maybe I would. The sample size is a bit lacking. “The best ability is availability”
