Each birthday, I receive a bit of money from my parents and my in-laws, and that's my dedicated tarot and oracle budget for the year. I try to spread my purchases out, rather than buying all at once. Once that money is gone, I have to wait for the next year to buy more. This works well for me, as I do think my collecting would probably get out of hand if I didn't have that automatically set budget. As much as I love watching tarot and oracle reviews, I do wonder how those with literally hundreds of decks (with new ones constantly coming in) can ever have time to build a relationship with their cards. At what point does collecting decks start taking focus away from the actual practice? If we struggle to connect with the decks we already have and are constantly searching for "the one" that will totally revolutionize our practice, perhaps it would be a better use of our energy to try and identify what exactly we feel like we're missing with the cards we already have. I would bet that most of the time, and I'm including myself here, it has nothing to do with the cards themselves.
I love the point you made. I too searched for 'the one" but realized that such a thing doesn't exist, lol. I do limit myself though by buying only decks that fit with my interests - nature, art, medieval times, fantasy. It really helps with not overbuying.
There is no ‘practice’ if people just buy and do not practice. If people buy and open and store this isn’t a practice - this is hoarding. People should investigate Amber mining and how people are displaced from their homes. Crystal buyers are doing the most damage unfortunately to this earth. National geographic did a great story on this. This is what woke me up and I will but buy any crystal now unless from a second hand or antique store on a necklace. Many one a year. If that.
@Nightsong's Cauldron & Cards yes!! I went to a local Gem Rock and Crystal show recently and was appalled at this, fake, dyed, so much of the same crap. So sad; didn't used to be that way. Consumerism. I've boycotted and stay to my small collection I've had for 20+ years now and ones I find on hikes when I get to go.
True. I wasn't aware of how crystals are ruining people's lives (almost slavery, people risk their health and even their lives mining for big companies in third world countries). It is also an environmental disaster. 😮💨We actually don't need crystals to tap energy or to protect ourselves. You can collect plain rocks and stones from your local area and realise that they work as well as the glamorous ones. They are stronger because they were found by you. That said, I won't lie, I own a beautiful collection of small tumbled stones that I have acquired over the years, some are second hand and I treasure them. I use them for divination, but not very often. The fact that this video came to me means that I really need to stop buying things, I feel. A wake up call.
I don't buy crystals any more for this reason. I also feel terrible for the crystals. I see them as being that have been ripped from their homes and forced into slavery. I try to honor those I have and rescue others from second hand stores as well!
Obviously, everybody has a different opinion on this because people buy things for different reasons. I buy tarot cards mostly for the art. I don't believe in divination and don't use it that way. I don't have a 'practice' but I have a 'collection' and often (every day) pick up a deck just to look at or play with. I don't buy crystals but i think that the 'engagement industry' has a huge impact on environment as well. Gold and diamonds are mined, too.
I collected so many tarot and oracle Decks in the two years since I started learning. I found it very healing to look at great diverse art on these universal themes and read the beautifully written guidebooks. I believe that once Once I got to a new stage in my development I just suddenly felt to stop focusing on acquiring but allowing tarot practice to fit into my life. I'm on a no buy year this year and enjoying rediscovering my Decks.
I go through those stages, too. Buying and enjoying. I never beat myself for acquiring all those decks because each serves a different purpose and I love them all. I never 'declutter' tarot deck but I did declutter some oracle deck.
@@OfWavesAndWinds I relate. I find it so hard to decluttter Decks because each one brings this real interesting different energy to me. But of your collection is growing bigger rapidly then I guess its the hard choice to make.
@@selfdiscoverysupport Unfortunatelly, there are sooooo many new decks coming out it's becoming very difficult. I made a list of 'deal brakers' and try to talk myself out of buying decks that catch my attention, lol. (I research info about the creators to see if i vibe with them, I consider the art, the backs, size, production quality, price, feel, smell...)
@@OfWavesAndWinds You're right. Some kind of personal strategy is needed to vet new decks. For me I keep them in my cart for at least 3-4 months. If I keep coming back to a few in particular after all ths research then I get it.
Your video is such a gift! I understand what you are feeling, as I am a full-out consumer of Tarot Decks. Here is my personal take on my own massive collection - a collection I would not have dreamed would be possible in 1968 when I acquired my first deck at age 18. Finding any occult book in a conventional bookstore was almost impossible, and tarot cards were RARE. There was no mass communications to raley around. Unless you were old enough and educated in the Liberal Arts - these spiritual schools of thought - would not be picked up by your radar. So, when I saw Tarot exploding on the scene after the 21st century dawned - I was thrilled!!! Finally! The word is out and a much younger generation would be given the opportunity to pursue Tarot and all the other subjects it takes you to. I LOVE all the subject areas Tarot encompases: Spirituality, Art, Psychology and Politics. My enthusiasm was my ticket to buy. Now, I am running out of room with perhaps 400-500 decks lovingly contained in my library with all of my books. At my age, 72, I realize I have a much more limited time ahead of me than I did at 18 - PLUS - so many decks to re-visit is like Christmas time and being surprised with the "newness" that Tarot can still elicit from me, while telling a story that, if repeated enough, just might give way to a modicum of understanding on this JOURNEY of the FOOL. Tarot makes me very happy, and now that I seem to have enough decks and books to keep me out of "trouble" I shall be satisfied - FINALLY. I love your videos! Finding a channel like your's to drop into makes me smile. I particulary LOVE this video's presentation as a nature walk. Here in New York right now it is SOOO cold...............reason enough to stay inside and spend time with all of my decks.
Thanks for the kind words. I love my collection, and I will continue in some capacity collecting. I love it for all the reasons you stated, and I feel very lucky to be alive at this time in history to enjoy it! I want to come to your house and see your collection!
Best story ever. I was gifted my first deck in nineteen SEVENTY eight at age 18 and I just knew there was magic in that box. I love and absolutely identify with your analogy of Christmas time and the fact that your Fool's Journey has brought you so much Tarot happiness. Thank you for making me smile 💜 It's freezing in many parts of Oregon too! I'll put another log on the fire and have some time for Tarot today, life is definitely good🥰
Firstly, I've never heard a chipmunk before, omg it sounded so cute! Thank you for taking us out to the coast, it was really lovely to see a little of the wild spaces near you. What a beautiful place to be able to spend your time. I hope you're finding some peace and balance with your tarot collection/practice. x
I enjoyed this video. I went waaaaay overboard last year. I've only been reading about a year and a half. I realized many decks I've purchased weren't being used so I decided to list all my decks, and then schedule 2 decks for each month of 2023. The decks assigned each month are the only 2 I can use that month. This way I can get to know each deck, and if there are decks that just aren't working for me, I can pass them along. Well, I found out I have 56 decks!! Way too many. So this year is a no buy unless somethingvreally special shows up.
Thanks for addressing this topic again, April. Deck consumerism is a real thing for many of us so it’s good to keep this conversation going. It starts out innocently enough and then can easily get out of hand for numerous reasons, both personal and collective. I’m working on a related video on having fun curating our collections but I’ll add this topic to my list of VRs to make. Namaste 🙏🏼🪶🌿
I am now focusing on the meaning of each card and the journey, known as the Fool's Journey, and what this journey means to me. I try to keep the purchases of my decks based on my journey. Recently, I purchased several animal decks as I have developed a deeper appreciation of animals. My budget is limited, which puts me in a position to reflect before purchasing a deck, although there are a few decks that I regret buying and would like to sell or pass on. I do love walking on nature trails and appreciate that you took us along on those Oregon coast nature trails - so beautiful and peaceful.
I have a teacher for my craft, and I was becoming dependent on always pulling cards for every inconvenience. He challenged me to use them, only when I truly needed help from my spirit guides. In my waiting, it taught me to go back to using my intuition and problem solving skills rather than continuously purchasing a new deck, only to use it once. I've bought at least 3 decks now that I don't use or have barely used.
It's a real trap. Even now, I see new shiny decks and want them, but I have more than enough decks now! I wait for decks to come to me, except for a few artists that I love....
Tarot purchasing is a complicated subject (as we know). We are raised, most of us, to purchase what we need -- sort of puritanical but also practical. We buy a toaster and we use it until it breaks and then we replace it. Etc. There are some items, however, that we collect, and these often tend to be in the arts or they have historical significance, whether that's classic cars or thimbles. Tarot is inherently conflicting because it is both art and often historical but also it's a spiritual tool. This dichotomy places us at odds when purchasing beyond what we decide we need. For me it's a constant balance (perhaps battle) between the joy of getting something beautiful and all that goes with that, but also using and really getting to know the decks I already have for spiritual work. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, April.
Hey Beth, I so agree. I still have not actually worked with my Grateful Dead tarot. It is a piece of art but also a piece of my history. I do look forward to diving into it and I'll never regret the purchase, but it was a lot of money for something that I haven't really used. I look forward to doing an update on how I feel about this now as this footage was really old.
The place you visited in this video is beautiful ❤️ And yes I fell in this trap. Consumerism. It hasn't hurt me yet. Everything is paid, but it has been 5 months of spending too much. Watching this video and reading some of the comments has helped in backing up my decision to organize my mind and act accordingly. Thank you
BlessIngs! I love the walk in the woods and along the coast with you! Thanks for taking me along. I know you recorded this a while ago, but you seemed so stressed, but I'm sure you got it all figured out. Please, please don't spend too much time in shame - it just puts way too much needless pressure on us. You are wonderful just the way you are. Enjoy your beautiful cards!
I'm in such a different place than I was there, but I still wanted to share with others. I'll be doing a follow up in a few months. You know me, nothing gets me down for long!
Hi ! April , Beautiful country . Thank you for sharing . I have been collecting decks for ten years or so . At first I purchased every new deck . Now , I only buy the decks I am really attracted to . Enticed by the artwork . Sometimes written description of the deck . The decks I did not resonate with I dropped off at the used book store for other people to enjoy . At the start of my journey working with tarot and oracle decks I was inconsistent in reading . Currently I read often . I find working with oracle and tarot decks keeps me in line . Other times reading is the greatest therapy . A wonderful place to find advice and comfort . A kick in the butt when I need it . I treasure all of my decks . Each has something special to offer .
Interesting. Honestly believe that all the decks out there is a load of cashcows AND all the different decks are so overwhelming! So we buy alot and then were like wait what happened?! The wants and needs, the environmental aspects and then the consumer-driver (creator or MM), are things to think about. I started out calling me a collector, and i am, but i stopped collecting shit i wont use. To avoid that i made a list of importance for me. Like an indie creator values, or with MM i dont need hundred decks looking or contain the same kinda energy and/or keywords. My most important though before purshasing is; whats the items value, compared to the footprint it leaves including the stay after i’m gone.
😊✨♥ on my current deck purchases, mainly because I think I only bought 2 decks in the past year+. I have somewhere in the ballpark of 300 decks I'm guessing (I plan on doing an unpacking of my decks on my channel soon-ish as I finish setting up my new office) and definitely went though a spell of retail therapy for a couple of years while recovering from childbirth. I do love my collection and had actually greatly weeded it down in 2021. Last year with moving to Oregon and barely working/doing readings and taking a big break from tarot tube, it helped to even fine tune my deck purchases more. And oooh, I'll have to go to Yachats later this spring or summer. I think I've been to that coffeehouse on a road trip up 101 years ago. oh and p.s. Your address is visible on the Brady receipt in case you want to blur that out.
I've been a collector for many years and will admit that it's been mainly for the art. I don't read for anyone other than myself. I love and appreciate every deck I've acquired and the thought of 'decluttering" or 'rehoming' any of them triggers intense anxiety. I suppose I'm a hoarder.
In regards to purchasing, I think I’m done for a while. I have all that I need. My last little itch was a lenormand (that I don’t read- yet) in which the art struck me. I think I have enough decks for any mood that strikes. I want to go on a hike on the Oregon coast. That’s the new itch🌞
I bought my first tarot deck years ago and I still have it. I use it as my general daily deck. Never bought another one. I have recently really started my journey again and seeing all the decks online is really tempting. I love all the beautiful artwork. I have bought a few Oracle decks and one new shadow deck to help me with my shadow work. I love it. I feel like it is a slippery slope and I could see myself easily going down that slope. I want my purchases to be sacred as well and really mean something. I did buy a deck that I wasn't as pleased with because I do think I was rushing it a bit. Thank you for making this video. :)
It certainly was a slippery slope! But I seem to have found my footing. I love that you have your first deck as your primary use and love it. I would imagine it is a deck that speaks truly to you!
I have been buying tarot decks for only one year, but in that time I have at least 20 decks. I feel since I began my relationship with tarot I have grown a lot and my taste is becoming more refined and mature. I may have already found my "soul" deck. I feel extremely satisfied to stay with this. deck as my main conversation, but I do think there will be other voices coming in to join the conversation. Having said all that, I do want to slow down the purchases and get to know each deck as they enter my sacred space.
I really enjoyed this vlog-style video. It was almost like being brought along with you as you figured out your own thoughts, found your center, and re-grounded. It’s interesting because I actually found myself calmer and more centered at the end as well! Thank you for your thoughts and taking us on this journey with you 🌸🌷🌼
I feel like I've finally squared with what spins my top. I've bought decks, hoping I would BE the type of person that would click with a style of deck.
❤ I had to put myself on a low buy year. 😯 I bought way too many decks last year. So I have guidelines I set for myself that I put in the front of my tarot journal. 😊
Thank you so much for this. Oregan looks beautiful. I got back into Tarot about a year ago and have bought lots of decks. Ive decided for the coming year to concentrate on the decks Ive already bought. I think some deep dives are in order.😊
Each person is so different. I think checking in with your needs and pursuing that is important. I hope your decks really feel like an adventure this year.
I love this conversation we’ve started having- it’s important to talk about! From personal reflection, I’ve realized that I’m allowed to buy new decks but (and here’s the but!) …I have to be USING it. As long as I’m using it (whether I’m studying it, learning symbolism, or just plain looking through the cards and having fun), it’s justifiable. Otherwise, I often am itching to buy but then am like but girl, will this cute deck be usable in your practice? Or will it be clogging up your space for no damn reason? 😂
Gorgeous walk! Thanks for this video. Seeing all the wonderful green was amazing. Not used to seeing such lushness (I live in Texas). Needed this video today. 😃
i am really glad that i have found your channel ...i just bought power of surrender and vice versa tarot, after watching your videos and the are amazing to work with ....thankyou for making such informative and deep videos❤
First of all...I enjoy both your channels. Thank you. I'm a minimalist...when it comes to art supplies and crystals and tarot...I choose that to be my "hygge" lots of love from Denmark. ❤🇩🇰🎈
Hi, April. I found the nature scenes in this video to be so, so beautiful. I wish I could teleport myself to that beach. Someday I will get to Oregon; it is on my bucket list. Thank your sharing these images and sounds. I find that, the more I buy, the more I want. The less I buy, the less I want. When I am in that space of buy, buy, buy it can feel compulsive and thoughtless. And sometimes it feels like a hangover afterwards! I don't have a good answer but I can say that taking some time for a "no buy" can really help, at least for me. I find the longer the no buy, the easier it gets. I also find taking breaks from reading Tarot to be very good for me. When I take a month or two without reading, I find I am more refreshed, and oddly, less apt to buy more. You'd almost think the opposite --- but no. Tarot does evolve and I will probably always purge some decks and bring in others. But I really don't want to make my collection much bigger than it is. I do enjoy having multiple versions of the cards -- I love just sitting with the artwork, often not reading at all. Just contemplating. I think I've accepted that this will always be a bit of a challenge. I think it's just something I will have to continually manage.
I hope you do make it out here someday. I'm not really buying right now. I had a pre order in January and a kidkstarter of a friend in Feb. Feels great to just be sitting with what I have!!!
💕🌈💕I’m on a low buy journey, taking time to appreciate what I have. Having less than 200 decks, I see Tarot/Oracle decks with a trained designer’s eye. I appreciate these portable art pieces. As a spiritual person, these decks are tools that helps me stay connected & grounded within myself and all around me.
I do feel like this is actually cheap art. To be able to have so many incredible pieces of art from one artist in your hand is amazing. And sometimes I buy a deck just because it is an art piece
I have accumulated lots of decks over the last 30 years and my approach to tarot has changed. I'm not as interested in new images. My interests lay in the creator's writing. I don't want the stock LWB. My interest lays in what a person has to say about a card or their practice that expands my perspective.
This is where I am too these days. I started when I was 18 (turn 51 in March). I took breaks having gotten bored at times, or so overwhelmed and realizing this was a big reason why. I was collecting just to collect, for all the wrong reasons. Once I stepped back and realized this it was such a relief. Now I'm cleaning house of all those impulse buys to only keep ones I love. Not just to say I have such and such.
I've got to say, I'm so into the books. I want decks that come with meeting books that tell me all about why the creator put what they did in the cards. I want to know their heart and soul and what it meant to them so that I can expand into my own tarot practice 💗
I'm looking at what I can do with Dex but I'm not really working with. Some of them I know will be collectors items someday and I'd like to keep them for that purpose or for my children, but I don't want stuff for stuff sake
That scenery was so breathtakingly beautiful that I had some trouble focusing on the discussion at hand. Thank you so very much for sharing this walk and these views with us, I felt transported. As for consumerism, I have probably made two or three impulse deck purchases in my life. For the decks I want, I have a wishlist that doubles as a cooling rack, so I don't have a problem with my (large) collection because the purchases have been mindful. It's a great discussion though and I really loved the way you framed it within nature. Thanks for sharing 💛
Beautiful video! Just found your channel and subscribed. Im brand new to Tarot and was really surprised seeing how many decks most people have. I can see how easy ir would be to go down the rabbit hole! Ive had my one and only deck for a week now, lol! I have the Gilded Tarot and love it! tfs
Welcome! It is easy to go down the rabbit hole. Check out my beginners library playlist for lots spreads and such. ruclips.net/p/PL1vRFSEF2NnT3lWm417oyyu6lg_qAlMsq
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. I recently reconnected with my joy for divination through tarot and oracle cards, and have found myself making lists of decks I want to acquire. I feel the obsession coming on! But I'm also trying to be mindful about each purchase and ensure I align with the deck before I make the purchase. Do I REALLY love the artwork? Does that artists story connect with me? Can I find it in person first (and support a local shop), before I go online to buy? Is this duplicating a theme or deck I already have? I found a lot that are in my list are similar in nature so I try to really diversify what KINDS of decks I'm looking for; Answer based, action oriented, foundational, clarifying, etc. All of these make the acquisitions so much more meaningful and joyful for me, knowing they already have a special quality before I use them and knowing that I'll use them (whether for a specific purpose or not) once acquired.
Love the juxtaposition of opening/working with your decks while out in nature, surrounded by the Earth ☺ I've been intentionally spending time outside more these past few months, even if it's just sitting in our courtyard with just one or two decks. It provides such a great sense of focus and quietude, sitting outside of my normal environment and away from my occasionally-cluttered environment. It keeps me motivated to keep my living space tidy and uncluttered so I can feel calmer at home too. Also, I have been there with the "I totally forgot I ordered this deck"... not a good feeling at all 😅
Hi, Thank you for this video! This brings up a lot of feels for me. I used to be an avid collector, but lately I've been seeing things I thought I wanted, but wasn't 100% sure. I bought them anyway. So here is an emoji description of my experience of looking at SO many new decks, and my latest purchases. 😵💫 🤔 😊 After looking, and looking, and looking....😵💫 So much. TOO much. And it all started to run together after a while, BUT, I did choose several that I really thought I could work with well. 🤔 And sure enough, intuition came through!😊 The purchases were good, the decks were real, not counterfeit, and I work with them all very well. So, pleased with recent purchases. And now I'll stop buying decks for a while. Really! I mean it!
Lol! I think we all have our journey and it's important to be conscious of what that means to each of us, individually. I'm so glad to hear that the decks you got are decks you truly love and use!
The forest and all the ferns makes it look prehistoric. How awesome to be immersed in that! I've gone through a similar thought process about my consumer habits. And when it comes to tarot decks, I've been really picky and I only want decks that I know I can use a lot. I don't need to buy any that will just take up space. If they are beautiful but I won't use them, I can just watch a video about it instead. I have some favorite decks that I want to get closer with and that's where I'm at. 🛒🚫🤷
Yes!! This is exactly what I’ve been doing recently. Soo many times I see a pretty deck but it’s not usable in my personal practice and so I just have to let the consumerism itch pass 😅
@@TarotandWitchery it took years of inner-work to develop that restraint, I didn't always have that vision! I'd also like to thank tarot-tube for furthering my philosophical process. 💚💚💚
It is not so much the waste and the environmental aspect, because it is on the same level of harm as as purchasing a book---which people buy many of without a single mental quibble. It is more of the dangerous idea that by buying these spiritual tools I am getting ahead or I am accomplishing something while doing nothing. I would put things on hold, saying well I don't have the deck for that yet, or buy a deck with the idea that it is step one and then never follow through. I am making what I purchase define me and my soul won't let me get away with that illusion for long. The real world is waiting, and it has so much better medicine for me than owning the perfect collection of...anything.
Omg! The rocky shoreline of the ocean was calling me. The ocean speaks to my spirit...the sound, smell, and view.......breathtaking. I have been spending money like crazy and not really spending any time with the decks I've acquired except for one or two favorites. This not what I want to be. In one of your videos, you talked about your "no buy" period and how you planned to spend more time with the decks you already owned. That struck a cord in me and I've decided to do the same. The only new decks in my collection are coming in from preorders or kickstarters, much like today for you. I'm new in tarot tube and really learn alot from you and a handful of others. Thank you for your authenticity. My three emojis re my decks... 🤔🤨🤑
Many thanks (!) for another great video. I also live in the area in the woods. I'm right there with ya on the subject matter. I'm long term obsessed. But a few things keep me from worrying about it. I don't pay for therapy. I treat people and situations in life very differently than I used to and it's very much a result of Tarot deep dives and so called shadow work. My stress level is amazingly low now; words cannot really describe what these Tarot studies did, and continue to do, for me in tumultuous times (seriously impactive). I no longer add to my book library which is massive; this Tarot and Oracle reading and beautiful art has replaced that. During the pandemic and aftermath I quit, absolutely stopped, getting expensive hair and nail services (you know how restrictive Oregon was and may be again) and found I didn't really need them. I no longer impulse buy at the grocery store because I rarely go there anymore since all the covid mania; fear energy permeates everywhere (inside) and that does nothing for me. I don't shop for clothes or shoes because of the same reasons, I no longer find it enjoyable and the fact that I have two closets full of fine clothing, why would I need anymore? I absolutely love my collection and the offsets in time and resources spent are more than worth it for me. I love that you are getting your outdoor on! It is the absolute answer to a balances life in my humble opinion as well. Thank you again!
We all have our treats in life and this is one for me. I'm moving into a new phase with my decks, and that's so much fun. Yes, always getting my nature on or I go CRAZY.
❤😮🥳 I’ve definitely had regrets on some purchases and I don’t plan on buying anymore anytime soon. I want to really focus on studying tarot and using the decks I already have. Also I love your videos! I live in the PNW too and feel so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty 🌲
Hi April, I hear you....its tough loving oracle and tarot decks. I had to cut back also. I now only order 1 deck and I have to wait until it arrives before purchasing the next or I write down all the decks I love and only purchase 1 deck a month from my list. If the left over decks on my list make it into the the next months list, one of them might be the lucky one to be chosen that month to purchase. My birthday month (May) and December for Christmas... I allow myself 2 decks in total that month. I live in Australia and some decks take 2 to 6 even 12 weeks depending on where it comes from in the world. So doing this practice for me helps....but like you said. We are all on our own journeys and each one of us have to find what works best for us. I love watching your channel and everything you share. It was truely lovely come along to the beach and rainforest with you. It look and sounded awesome. ..Terri from Australia.
🤔 😇 😊 I've always done a low buy, but last year, I've purchase 4 Decks ( 3 were pre-ordered)done 2/3 trades and let go 3-4 Oracle Decks. No regrets. I'm actually planning on two decks a year, So this year in January I pre-ordered Tarot of the Owls and 2 days after Christmas I ordered The Avalonian Oracle. So no more deck purchases. There are two Oracle Decks I am planning on repurchasing next year, one got lost and the other I rehomed due to the card stock was very very thin and Blue Angel redid their card stock and would like the ''Australian'' version of the deck. There is a Tarot Deck that I've been hemming and hawing at which I will be sharing my channel on thus weekend. Plus I did a reconnect Decks VR I did at the end of Dec that was started by Larksand Legend. So I have Decks I would like to reconnect this year, plus using the Tarot of the Owls and the Avalonian Oracle. Anyways, I'm blabbing!!! Looking forward to your third video of Tarot Consumerism$$$!!! Late and Blessings!!! Loving the woods and the Ferns and the Northern Pacific Northwest 😍 We were stationed in Tacoma, WA and Southern Oregon so I recognized the area and those lushly Greens. Very beautiful place.
You are wonderfully controlled with your deck purchases. I feel like you're super balanced in knowing what you want and don't want. I can be a little bit impulsive, as the video shows, but I'm getting there. I feel like I'm coming to the end of whatever this hunger is. The dive into what I have feels really good and I could do deep dive On every deck I have comment and have enough content for over a year!
Thanks for sharing! I started reading only a couple of years ago and I have circa 100 decks (oracles, Lenormands and Playing cards included) More than half are second hand. I have rehomed some of my decks already. I remember when I only had two decks. It was better in many ways. I don't use all my decks and it doesn't feel right .At all. I think I want to narrow it down to decks that I truly connect with and feel like using. It's hard because I love all things Tarot, some decks are so beautiful that I don't want to part with them. and new ones are sometimes very alluring and you wonder how they would read... Perhaps I should stop watching Tarotube...🤔😂
I watchbless TarotTube about unboxing and more about Tarot talk. I want my channel to me more about reading the cards this year. Any ideas are always appreciated!
Oh my gosh, you live in such a beautiful place! You are so lucky to live in a forested area by the ocean! The streams, trees, rocks, ferns, moss, and waterfalls are so naturally magical. I can't say I am really into tarot or divination, but last year I did buy a few oracle cards decks, which I use in a kind of "self-help" sort of way. Any decks with animals or with a Nature or Celtic theme appeal to me. I know I bought some just because I love the artwork! Maybe we just like to support artists and authors who share our views or beliefs? I wish they had oracle and tarot decks at the library, so you could review them before you purchase them. Do you do readings for others? I think it would be so nice to share my decks with others. I don't know anyone who uses them, but it would be nice to join an "Oracle Cards" club or something and share. Maybe if you know others who have a few decks as well, you can share with them. 🌻
I do do readings. My scheduler will be up on my site this week and I will be announcing it. You can always email me to book a reading! Tarotandwitchery@gmail.com
@@TarotandWitchery Cool! I love both of the decks you showed, too, by the way. Thanks for reviewing the Earth Alchemy deck in another video. That is one deck I recently purchased, which I had a fun reading with. I need to make some time to connect with each of the decks I bought.
I received a package 2 days ago, whilst it isn't a deck, it has given me feelings of shame. I think I have bought 5 tarot and 4 oracle plus 1 extention pack in 2 months. I am one person; I have to revisit why I do this... only 3 oracle were mass market. The rest is all indie. I am spending roughly £60 per deck plus international shipping. WTAF? I do not have this money to spend! I want to get a puppy, go to Dakar, take my Son to Barcelona. Pay my damn car insurance. Like what am I doing? Yeah. I am going to have to cull the type of videos I watch as well. I love your witchy channel. I'll see you over there
What?!!! I can’t believe I was unsubscribed…ugh. I read your comments on another’s video and thought…I wonder why April hasn’t put any content? Oh geesh, I have a lot to catch up on. I am LOVING the scenery and sounds in this video❤ wow, the Brady tarot is gorgeous! I love tarot. I can see issues with consumerism, but I take responsibility for anything I do. I do not collect tarot. But I love using it ❤ this video is so well done! I have missed you ❤😊
My main problem is the channels that I watch get decks and go on and on about how cool they are then declutter them a year or even months later. I have decks I don't like or have been really disappointed in but I try to work with them before I get rid of them. I have most of my decks. I use them all. Just sayin.
💸😐or🥰 but I'm not really that interested in buying decks right now. Nothing coming out mass-market seems worth the money too me, and indi decks are a rare treat due to shipping and import taxes, and at the same time, I get pissed off when an indi deck goes mass-market 6 months after I've paid twice the worth of the deck in shipping and import (not the artist I'm 100 for supporting art in all forms).
Yes yes and yes! I love my indies and prefer the ones I have, but have also learned not to jump the gun on them anymore. I'm much more selective than I used to be.
I don't regret the indie decks I have that have gone mass market. There's something special about the ones I've purchased, but I don't have that many of them.
This video was so beautiful!! I loved this idea of going into the forest to unbox the deck, so inspiring and magical. I'm sorry you feel bad, I've been feeling very similarly these days honestly too, about a few things. So, sending love. It's been helpful for me to shift to gratitude instead. I live in Costa Rica although I'm from the states so purchasing anything is a lot harder and consumerism is very different here. I do my best to buy what really calls to me or what I think I will love or will bring me joy. Recently I've been thinking I should stop and focus on what I have because I feel full but if something amazing comes along, I may buy it because I was called to buy a deck and I really really love it and connect with it. I feel like it connects to me actually. Which is preferable. Also I think it's nice to support deck makers.
I feel that these decks are like books. If I can afford them then why should I feel bad? I use them and if I am no longer interested I donate them. My taste isn't very eclectic however, I can see how someone might want to try everything. If this is the case then I would go slow, one of each type maybe? There are different deck for different purposes. If you are a pro however, then they are tools and you might as well invest in what the client wants.
Thank you for taking us on your journey! I find myself wanting more decks, having deck ideas, wanting a mix of decks to come out. All those things! Maybe as a bigger picture it shows how close we all want to be with Spirit. And that it's a liberation almost, to HAVE a spiritual tool/topic SO widespread and accepted.
Hi April, I feel you. I’ve done a frenzy of tarot & oracle consumerism last year and January. So, I wrote down all my pre-orders, online shopping when I was going through some stressful time. Of course, my Ferrari brain 🧠 went for some Dopamine hit. In fact, I received 4-5 decks today in the mail. 😂 Tbh, I probably purchased about 40 + decks around September of 2022 and went bananas in January 2023. 🙃 💰🍀♾️🥂🦸🏻♀️ No shame, guilt, and blaming for me these days. Some of them is definitely a trauma response for me. 🧠 Although, I’m slowing things down when it comes to buying more oracles.😁 Oh, yes, the ocean is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing the beauty of Mother Nature in Oregon. It reminds me of my tropical world back then. 🇵🇭 😃🎨 Yes, why do you feel shame about your tarot consumerism? What do you think is the root cause of that deep shame you’re feeling that you can remember back when you’re a little child? Who made you feel bad growing up? I hope you can dig deeper and be willing to process your unprocessed feelings of shame. Sending love and compassion from 🇨🇦😃✨. You got this! 💞♾️😃✨
I loved reading your comment, that you don’t blame or shame or guilt yourself. For me it’s also been a self soothing journey and having self compassion is so important ❤
I try to give each purchase time to settle before I make the next, so that's 2-4 weeks between decks at least. But I've also watched a video where someone spent six months agonising over a deck, putting it on their wishlist, taking it off, debating it endlessly, and thought 'it's a mass market deck and you're obviously fascinated by this, drop $25, scratch that itch, and decide whether you want to keep it.' You can be too careful, just as decluttering can be unhealthy. I've just done a major cull of my collection, and I refuse to constantly look at my decks through a lens of 'why should I get rid of this'. Maybe I don't use it often and I don't 'need it' but if it brings me joy, why not keep it?
@@TarotandWitchery Looking forward to that! Decluttering (which improves the overall quality of your collection) is a Good Thing; culling (which is the word I should have used) often isn't healthy.
What beautiful nature you have to explore and breathe in. I calmed right down on "our" walk. 😊🩷👍 I worked with 3 tarot and 5 oracle decks for years. Then, in December 2020, I came across a tarot yt channel. As I hear so often, down the rabbit hole I went. If the channel creator was so happy, enthusiastic, and over the moon about a deck, well then, I would be so as well, right? Well, I learned that lesson quickly....don't get caught up in the excitement of a content creator. I ended up gifting or returning around 20 decks in the first 3 months of watching tarottube. My daughter is enjoying most of those decks now. Lol Last January I set a goal for myself, not to make an impulsive deck buy, and I haven't. I will ponder, watch multiple reviews on mute, write down how/when/why I will use the deck, what I have to pair with it, why the artwork moves me, and if I already have a deck I love that it would compete with. I find I often end up changing my mind about a deck after that kind of scrutiny. If I'm still enamored with the deck, I'll wait a minimum of 7-10 days before I click the buy button, just to be sure I'm not going to regret spending the money. The decks I currently have I use daily, regularly, seasonally, or specifically. That said, I have several decks sitting in various carts waiting on me to decide if they will fit into my practice. ☺️ I enjoy your videos, so much, April!
Yep! I can relate 😊 avoiding impulse deck buys is one of my biggies. I would rationalize "still cheaper than therapy, right?!" (Sure but now I need shopping addiction therapy also... brilliant plan🙄🤣) I put similar parameters on this year, and by sticking to them (especially the impulse part) so far they are working. Much less buyer's regret and fewer to have to rehome or sell later.
I love the idea of watching the vids on mute. That is brilliant. I, too, have been swept up by the fervor of another enthusiasm, only to think, what was I thinking?!
Great reflection. So true. Thanks for sharing.💫
I SO AGREE. My practice is front and center this year!
I love the point you made. I too searched for 'the one" but realized that such a thing doesn't exist, lol. I do limit myself though by buying only decks that fit with my interests - nature, art, medieval times, fantasy. It really helps with not overbuying.
What a wonderful post -- thank you. I like the idea of having a limited annual budget for Tarot.
This is also what concerns me and why I'm trying to avoid the unboxing and deck collecting videos where you know that's all it is & all they do.
I am diving into the decks I have and making practice important. It feels right on schedule!
I hope you're finding some peace and balance with your tarot collection/practice.
x
I am. I want to do a follow-up video. This was taken so long ago that I have found new peace with it and want to share
@@TarotandWitchery That's great April. I look forward to your follow up.
I love the idea of assigning decks. I did that loosely last year. I'd pick at the beginning of the month
Please, do a VR. I would love more talk on this. This IS old footage, and I have some fresh thoughts, so maybe in March I'll do an update....
Yes! Choosing a deck for your next step on the journey sounds 👌
Thank you
Yay!!!!!
I recently put all my decks in a box and decided to just keep one beside my bed. Sanity.
I love this. I've move a lot of them out of my reading room into this really neat case I have in the entry. It feels really good
I love how our journey shifts ☺️
I agree. THE carbon footprint of these purchases is a little revolting to me. The amount of plastic that piled up was SIGNIFICANT.
Whooops! Thanks for the heads up. Yes, you must go to Yachats. It's such a fun little town.
I've been a collector for many years and will admit that it's been mainly for the art. I don't read for anyone other than myself. I love and appreciate every deck I've acquired and the thought of 'decluttering" or 'rehoming' any of them triggers intense anxiety. I suppose I'm a hoarder.
That doesn't make you a hoarder! No shame here at all.
Unless your art collection is causing hardship, or creating a hazard, enjoy it!!!!
I definitely have enough decks dor any mood
What beautiful surroundings! I kinda felt like we were going on a walk with you. Really lovely, and thanks for sharing your thoughts ❤
Glad you enjoyed 😉 This a favorite place for me and I loved sharing it 😊
I have been buying tarot decks for only one year, but in that time I have at least 20 decks.
I agree, taking the time to get to know what deck makes it very special.
I really enjoyed this vlog-style video. It was almost like being brought along with you as you figured out your own thoughts, found your center, and re-grounded. It’s interesting because I actually found myself calmer and more centered at the end as well! Thank you for your thoughts and taking us on this journey with you 🌸🌷🌼
Noting like nature to set you right!
🤯🤑🥰started so fast and blew up. Wasted so much money. I’m finally getting the hang of what works for me and slowing down.
I feel like I've finally squared with what spins my top. I've bought decks, hoping I would BE the type of person that would click with a style of deck.
Thank you for taking us with you into nature while you open your decks and continue navigating the vortex! 🥰🙏🏻☀
I'm looking forward to heading over there this week!
🥰happy, 🌼i feel like i'm buying the decks that really connected with me so far..🌠
Brilliant 👏 some people are really great at this
❤ I had to put myself on a low buy year. 😯 I bought way too many decks last year. So I have guidelines I set for myself that I put in the front of my tarot journal. 😊
And now you have so many wonderful decks to explore this year!
I agree. I want to be using them in some capacity, not getting ro it some day!
What a thoughtful video! Can't believe it took me like two months to see it!
🤔😶🌫
I think we are all crazy busy. Good to see you over here!
Gorgeous walk! Thanks for this video. Seeing all the wonderful green was amazing. Not used to seeing such lushness (I live in Texas). Needed this video today. 😃
I'm so glad to hear this. Hope your day is lovely
i am really glad that i have found your channel ...i just bought power of surrender and vice versa tarot, after watching your videos and the are amazing to work with ....thankyou for making such informative and deep videos❤
You are so welcome
Love this! Nothing better than connecting to nature 💰🌪💖
Couldn't agree more!
First of all...I enjoy both your channels. Thank you. I'm a minimalist...when it comes to art supplies and crystals and tarot...I choose that to be my "hygge" lots of love from Denmark. ❤🇩🇰🎈
My mother's lineage is heavy in Dainish! I'm super excited to have connected with the land from all the way over here 💗🕯🕯🕯
@@TarotandWitchery You do look scandinavian and for sure have celtic energy.
Same here re low buy and connecting, and nicely said 😊 I too see them as mini canvases!
Keeping a list helps me. You have such wonderful focus and self control ✨️
Beautiful video! Just found your channel and subscribed. Im brand new to Tarot and was really surprised seeing how many decks
most people have. I can see how easy ir would be to go down the rabbit hole! Ive had my one and only deck for a week now, lol! I have the Gilded Tarot and love it! tfs

@@TarotandWitchery oh, thanks! I will! 😊
These are all really good questions to ask before buying another deck!
Also, I have been there with the "I totally forgot I ordered this deck"... not a good feeling at all 😅
I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgot they'd ordered a deck!
Hi,
Thank you for this video!
🤔 And sure enough, intuition came through!😊
The purchases were good, the decks were real, not counterfeit, and I work with them all very well.
I love this idea of watching a video on it instead!
Excellent restraint...
This was beautifully said. ❤️
😍😍😍❤️OR, and I am collector, but feel like now I give deck purchases a full thought process, instead of impulse buying like when I started!
Love that!
Oh my goddess! I loved the emojus you chose about your decks! Let me know how it goes when sparking up new relationships with those unused decks?
We are very lucky indeed!
Oh the anticipation of waiting that long for a deck!
🤔 😇 😊
I've always done a low buy, but last year, I've purchase 4 Decks ( 3 were pre-ordered)done 2/3 trades and let go 3-4 Oracle Decks.
And you're not blabbing
I'll see you over there
Do what you have to! My latest financial hemorrhage has been in books. I need to unsubscribe from Troy Books!
I have missed you ❤😊
I had this the other day with Candy's channel. Is Candy ok? She hasn't put out a video in ages! Then I found out I was unsubscribed!
My main problem is the channels that I watch get decks and go on and on about how cool they are then declutter them a year or even months later. I have decks I don't like or have been really disappointed in but I try to work with them before I get rid of them. I have most of my decks. I use them all. Just sayin.
I think that something can look great on the surface, but once we dive in, we Dinsmore they just dont do it for us!
@@TarotandWitchery yes I agree.
I'm learning to hang tight too so I can wait and see whether or not it's gonna go mass market.
I share so many of your thoughts. This was done 6 months ago, and I plan on doing another video to talk about how I feel now on this journey....
@@TarotandWitchery 6 months ago! haha well it's relevant now. Oregon is gorgeous I had no idea
This is where I'm landing these days, but there has been something profound to uncover here for me.
I agree 👍
It’s so gorgeous where you live! Those ferns!!! 💕
I know!! Oregon really is an amazing place to live. I feel very blessed to be here and I want to take as much advantage of it as I can
Hi April, I feel you.
No shame, guilt, and blaming for me these days. Some of them is definitely a trauma response for me. 🧠
Although, I’m slowing things down when it comes to buying more oracles.😁
Oh, yes, the ocean is so beautiful.
Thank you for sharing the beauty of Mother Nature in Oregon. It reminds me of my tropical world back then. 🇵🇭 😃🎨
Yes, why do you feel shame about your tarot consumerism?
What do you think is the root cause of that deep shame you’re feeling that you can remember back when you’re a little child?
Who made you feel bad growing up?
I hope you can dig deeper and be willing to process your unprocessed feelings of shame.
Sending love and compassion from 🇨🇦😃✨.
You got this! 💞♾️😃✨
I loved reading your comment, that you don’t blame or shame or guilt yourself. For me it’s also been a self soothing journey and having self compassion is so important ❤
Yes, this video footage is a bit old. I want to do a follow-up on this to really share what I have uncovered and how I am finding peace with myself!
I try to give each purchase time to settle before I make the next, so that's 2-4 weeks between decks at least. But I've also watched a video where someone spent six months agonising over a deck, putting it on their wishlist, taking it off, debating it endlessly, and thought 'it's a mass market deck and you're obviously fascinated by this, drop $25, scratch that itch, and decide whether you want to keep it.'
You can be too careful, just as decluttering can be unhealthy. I've just done a major cull of my collection, and I refuse to constantly look at my decks through a lens of 'why should I get rid of this'. Maybe I don't use it often and I don't 'need it' but if it brings me joy, why not keep it?
I've been really thinking about this whole deck decluttering business. I've kinda changed my mind a lot about it. Video to come!
@@TarotandWitchery Looking forward to that! Decluttering (which improves the overall quality of your collection) is a Good Thing; culling (which is the word I should have used) often isn't healthy.
😊😍😊
Another wonderful day in the wooda

Thanks for being here
@@TarotandWitchery thank YOU for creating a ‘here’!!! 🤗 Absolutely love your content and spirit. Truly appreciate ya 🥰
I enjoy your videos, so much, April!

Sometimes life sucks and buying beautiful tarot decks (like the Brady tarot) makes me happy. No apologies, lol.
LOL I've got this one in my cart right now for this reason, just waiting on payday. No shame here!
@@steffymuze You'll love it. It's like a pocket art gallery 😍
