I'm definitely feeling the need for a depth/low-buy year. Last year I bought a ton of decks, largely due to TarotTube but also because I was new to the world of modern tarot decks (for many many years all I had was my basic Marseille and RWS) and hadn't really identified my own tastes. Now I think I have a much better handle on what I like and what works for my practice, I've decluttered a bunch of decks and am buying fewer decks more mindfully. I'm also trying to declutter the rest of my house and create a more serene environment - I know exactly what you mean about the overwhelm of endless projects and jobs to do!
I find walk-throughs to be a double-edged sword; sometimes they cause FOMO, but other times they lead me to realise that, while I liked a deck at first glance, it was enough for me to see all the cards on video and I don't need to own it after all. I've committed to trying to find the stuff on my wishlist through swaps, which is not easy when you're in the UK and most swappers are in the US.

So interesting to hear your thoughts and hear about your experiences. I think most people struggle to some extent around the idea of consumerism, or excess, or filling voids with distractions, or however you experience it or want to characterize it. I have been decluttering for some time now -- at first before I left California I decluttered before the movers came and put my things in storage, which was more for practical reasons. Now after I've got my new home, I find myself decluttering again, but with a different motive. I want this home to contain only those things I either need or really love. I don't want to have random lamps, or chotskies, or things hanging on my walls that aren't meaningful to me. It's good for me to declutter. To see what things are really important to me and why.

I want to do everything all the time.... boy do I hear that! I love collecting. But... I'm starting to feel a bit swamped by my collection and this year I want to actually USE them. I also live in a house with more stuff than space where not everything has a home. I'll never be minimalist but I know I've reached the limit of how much stuff I can store! Thanks for sharing this lovely video.

I found your reflections and intentions really fascinating and in a few ways I am in a similar place. My aim for the near future is to only have things I absolutely love or really need. I am a comfort spender and I LOVE getting parcels (I always have done since I was really young!) however, enough is now slightly too much and I have so many lovely things that I'm slowing it all right down. I'm going to have a big sort out and rediscover all the lovely things (and decks) I already have! I feel better just thinking about it and thanks for a lovely thought provoking video 💕✨

I really admire your honesty Candy and I am trying to be very mindful about deck purchases too. Less can definitely be more sometimes and also it isn’t always about buying a deck but the reason behind it and if that’s to escape or seek some temporary comfort from what the real issue is then that can make things worse. Good luck with your no buy year ❤️

I understand feeling overwhelmed. That's how I feel about my healing journey. I decided to focus on healing for 202 but I was overwhelmed for most of it and I end up doing less than expected.
No tarot. No journaling. I just spent most of my days busy doing things around the house numbing myself by occupying myself with everything else but me. I realize now that I was/am scared because my wounds are raw. My therapist isn't available as much as I need her; my last appointment was in October and my next is in March, and between those dates I am "lost" and "alone". I tried getting a self-help workbook because I can see how my anxiety is getting worse. However, I am not yet able to push myself to sit and work with it. I am also still struggling with my triggers being around and me not being able to be safe. I hope I can have peace and safety back in my life. I know that would help me a lot.
    Sending you lots of love

Gosh does it help to know your words resonate deeply. Running away from ourselves and the words of others in our head not helping. Chasing and not having time left or the will to light a light when we are sitting in the dark. All of this my dear friend is resonating with me and I know so many others. That’s why slow living is my word. I’m not asking myself to do anything any more. I’m slowing, peace and Space. 1 thing to focus on only, 1 voice only in my head …. My own one kind and considered and softly spoken. We’ve got this. I will try and share lots more too. Thank you for watching you are so appreciated here ❤️

Candy, thanks for sharing your reflections on mental health and consumerism. I’ve often thought about the connection between buying things and trying to help myself feel better. While I’m okay with this to an extent, I can get distracted from my intentions. Your video reminded me what joy depth can bring. Maybe that’s what we’re looking for when we buy!

    • @CandySoulAndSoil
      @CandySoulAndSoil  2 года назад

I think you are so right! It is that joy isn’t it. I think that’s why I’m finding things so hopeful at the minute because I’m finding so much joy in the Spaces I’m creating now with less ❤️

Everything you said makes so much sense. Guilt comes very easy when purchasing for comfort. I've been on the same path. I've accumulated around 75 decks and haven't been able to use or connect to many of them. Crystals also. I have sold, or passed along many now and getting down to around 25 decks and only a few crystals. I am becoming more aware of watching unboxing videos and not purchasing only for comfort. I think getting down to my spiritual roots and only using and working with decks that I have an absolute connection and am willing to sit down and work with and put effort into. A spiritual journey can bring you down many paths and you have this spark to do anything and everything that comes along which can become overwhelming and lead to over buying and confusion. I went back to the beginning and got back to simplicity and started working with my very first decks and reconnected with my crystals that I had a personal connection to. I've become much more grounded and have accumulated much more gratitude for the things that had been with me from the beginning and their special purpose on my path. Blessings to all who are walking along their special path!

We tend to forget that we can still give back things we bought. We don’t need to keep them. Overwhelm is a response and right now I try to manage my first response that comes naturally or that was programmed into me. We are in power of our responses, we can observe first. ☺️

I'm doing a no-buy depth year this year inspired by you! It's been great hearing about your experience and how it shifted over time, this way and that. It's only been a month but mine's already shifted from "all these projects I want to complete using the things that I have and studying the decks that I have" to "what am I trying to prove and to whom?" Not in the sense that I'm giving up, but it's completely turned around into a theme of presence and self-acceptance, I've been going way too fast at the start there. I hope the year takes me to a place where I too can consider and recognize it as a gift to myself. Looking forward to more of your thoughts, if you'd care to occasionally update us on how this year is going for you :)

I am by nature a slow living person and often de-clutter always trying to reduce my material needs. But I collect and consume ‘knowledge’. It can, and often does, get overwhelming. I research and retain information on almost anything that catches my interest. This year I’m going to revisit what I already know. Is it useful to my life? Am I putting that knowledge to good use? Is it enhancing my life? Am I really living my own philosophy and spirituality everyday? I shall also be accepting that I cannot manage to keep my garden like I would want. I have two chronic illnesses and my eldest daughter also has one and this is making it impossible to keep the garden how I would like it. So it will be a year of simplifying and making it manageable. This will be my depth year for 2022. Love this video Candy💕🙏❤️

Thank you for sharing your personal journey. You gained such profound insights into yourself. 💖
Something that popped into my head as I was watching was the phrase "Shop your stash." People in the planner community use the phrase to encourage themselves and each other to use the planner items and stickers they already have, instead of buying new stuff. What you were saying made me think of that. 😊 Maybe when/if you feel yourself craving something new, you could "shop your stash" and work more with something you already have that maybe you hadn't necessarily planned on. 😊
I've definitely been doing more "retail therapy" the past 2 years. I still try to be mindful about my purchases. I typically put a deck on my wishlist, watch walk throughs, and give it some time before I decide to buy. But so far this year I've made 3 deck purchases a bit on impulse, well impulse for me, after seeing them in other people's videos or mentions. I've decided for myself, I'm ok overall with my spending. I typically stay within a budget. I enjoy new things and don't find them negatively affecting my mental health. Of course everyone has to do what they feel is best for them.
Oh, and those Hay House sales... 😁 I bought FOUR decks during the pre-Christmas 50% off sale! 🤦‍♀️ 🤣

    • @CandySoulAndSoil
      @CandySoulAndSoil  2 года назад +1

Yes shop your stash is such a great idea. Thank you so much. I will definitely be doing this after no buy. The hay house sales were a big pull for me as I wanted the girls to have decks but of course it didn’t stop there! Honestly it’s like a slippery slope for me. If I’m not looking or buying I’m fine. The second I crack open the door to it I’m sliding down the greasy slide with no ability to stop. ❤️

But I am determined to resume next month because like you said falling off the waggon and giving into spending only makes you feel worse in the long run. One thing I did right this month though is starting decluttering...and I feel so proud about it because letting go of things has always been a tough challenge for me.

Each year I say that I will delve deeper within my metaphysical practice, which has been true to the extent that I discover a new direction that I want to move towards.
I feel 2021 was part of that experience where I did a bit more research to see where I was gravitating towards. The calling is there and sense I'm moving closer to it.
The irony is the "Strength/Justice" (8) archetype is my birth card for 2021 and "8" is my life path number.
But my 2022 birth card will be the Hermit, which in lieu of recent circumstances of "signs and omens" seems apropos as I feel I'm reaching a crossroads where I may have to hunker down and reverse inside myself for deeper guidance.
If I was to have a "personal word of the year" I would say "SHIFT".
Honestly, I'm not at all motivated to invest in any decks.
I'm quite happy with the current tarot deck family that I've connected with.
They feed my body, mind, and soul just fine.
I think you are going to have a very "expansive" and awakening" 2022 year, Candy! 🌹✨🕯

Hi, Candy!! It's interesting how depth year means different experiences for different people... for me, I feel that I went on a depth year when I finally allowed myself to buy decks that I knew I could afford, because my default mode is to always think I am spending too much even though I am just spending with what I need to survive with the bare minimum (except for maybe trips, all my extra money goes on plane tickets but pandemic...), my chiron is in taurus in 2nd house, it took me forever to realize difficult times had stayed in the past and it is okay to buy a deck if I really want it, but it was a PROCESS to get there. I find it fascinating that opposite paths lead to the same outcome - feeling connected with our decks! I really enjoyed your reflections!

@@laynagilbert4450 Saturn in virgo in 2nd house: one needs self-discipline when it comes to finances, it can be a blessing or a curse, it is a blessing for those who are naturally organized with money and can stay within a budget, its a curse for those who overspend and are not disciplined enough. Needs to makes grounded decisions, often put in situations of difficulties in order to learn how to manage money and possessions... if the lesson is learned, you pass the test and achieve success. My two cents! Ah... and chiron in Taurus in 10th, difficulties finding stability in career (or maybe not willing to have something stable), among other things, but once you have a taste of what it feels like to be safe and secure, it transforms your life for the best. Not the only possibility, but again, just my two cents, you need to see the whole chart to really know!

Ah yes...the slippery slope! Quite the goodie box you have there. Do you think there might be decks in there you'd declutter before you get to 2023? Just wondering.

I'm slowly learning a very similar lesson about what will get my finger hammering the 'buy' button! It was really helpful and interesting to hear you talk about the lessons your learned - thank you so much for sharing your reflections Candy.

I appreciate your frankness with regards to why you were buying decks. I think that is an important thing for us to realise as consumers in a capitalist society, regardless of what we're purchasing. So you may feel you fell of the Depth Year wagon somewhat but like you said, you still took away important lessons which is great.
I get overwhelmed really easily (and easily burn myself out by overdoing things) so can really relate to needing that space and stillness.
My words for the year (Gentleness and Consistency) are all about trying to be kinder to myself and to slow down, for this reason.
I LOVE your word/phrase for 2022, I look forward to seeing how you embody that this year.
    Much love Candy.
    xx

Aww Gigi thank you. 2 decks in. Who knows it might be the only 2 or they hold a key to something profound?

I'm having a no buy year but what I'm not buying is much gasoline cause I'm walking everywhere, no Netflix cause I can read a good book instead (free from the library), and no brussels sprouts....that last is no sacrifice at all, by the way! 🤣 Glad your depth year paid off in self-knowledge and self-confidence, and thanks for sharing! 💖💖
