Back then the skits were rehearsed a lot more and fewer changes were made, whereas now rewrites occur up to the last moment. It's debatable which method is 'better': we have to remember that we are only seeing the best of the old skits on here and all the trash is forgotten. But I agree I like this more theatrical style, depending on the skit. We are watching one of the all-time greats here after all.

@@michaelsix9684 Very interesting. I never picked up on her stage fright. Now that you mention it, she did seem a bit on edge whenever I saw her. She must've used that anxiety to hone herself into a great talent.
I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. At my worst I was afraid to go outside my home. We're lucky Jan didn't have that problem. She was able to shine despite her difficulty. She picked the right job to challenge herself. Her adversity made her Stronger.

First, most female comedians refer to themselves as comedians, not comediennes. Second, gendered terms can be distracting, especially where the traditionally male forms have long been standard for describing people of both sexes (as is the case with comedian). Third, such gendered terms can be interpreted as sexist, especially when the person’s sex is beside the point."
