I've watched several of these McDonald's "How They Make It" videos now, and one thing keeps bothering me. Everything has Dextrose added into it. And all of the McDonald's people seem to go out of their way to say "It's a NATURAL sugar". And this started bugging me. Why don't they just call it sugar. Well, simply put, it's not natural at all. What most people think of as sugar is simply Cane Sugar, which is natural. They also think of the sugar you buy at the grocery store in the big white bag labeled "Sugar". This is usually Sucrose derived from Beets. But again, it's still simple natural sugars. Dextrose on the other hand is made from starchy plants like Wheat, Rice and most commonly Corn. Which most people would not consider to be sweet at all. The plants are broken down into something called Monosaccharides (Which is a big word for simple sugars, like Glucose). The problem with those is that your body doesn't need them to create energy. In essence, they are empty calories (about 4 calories per gram) which provide no nutritional value whatsoever. Now then, the starchy plants are VERY highly processed with Enzymes and sometimes even acids to break them down and turn them into Dextrose. But by legal definition, Dextrose comes from a natural plant like Corn, so they can call the by-product which is Dextrose, Natural. But ANYONE who is not a Lawyer, or corporate sell out would NEVER call something so highly processed and chemically manufactured "Natural". Any way, I'm just throwing it out there that I find it odd they go to the length of calling it a "Natural" sugar every time they mention Dextrose. Why not just say the ingredient name of "Dextrose" and call it a day......

I work at Simplot. We make fries & pre-form items like hash browns/tater tots & the like for a bunch of different clients. The process is clean and simple with strong controls. You would think working in a fry factory & watching that endless parade of product rolling by would leave you faintly unimpressed/bored with the idea of eating them but they are so pervasive that I still eat the things upon occasion. Nothing wrong with fries.

I worked at McDonald's once, and honestly, it's all clean. When I was younger, I always thought McDonald's fries were extremely fake and bad. However, it's very simple and up to the point. I'll uncover this myth. We just get potatoes, make dem shape, fry that fatty potato, salt those dead potatoes, and boom! That is in a nutshell, so it isn't the most specific. It's just a summary. Honestly, a dollar for these fries might be sketchy, as healthy fries will never be that cheap. Of course, it isn't healthy, french fries are fast foods. Some are, but in return, it tastes pretty bad. Just be glad that you get intermediate fries for a dollar, it's not healthy but at least it isn't bad. Eating one cup of french fries won't harm you, eating them every day will harm you.

They have a machine for the peeling process, I'm a student inside the company located in the Netherlands. They can produce up to 25 tons of fries in one hour. I'm a student in their lab and I know for a fact how many hours they put in the research of their product. It's really amazing.
My home in eastern Oregon is about a 30 minute drive away from that Simplot plant in Caldwell, Idaho. I used to commute through there daily via Simplot Boulevard.

I work at Simplot. We make fries & pre-form items like hash browns/tater tots & the like for a bunch of different clients. The process is clean and simple with strong controls. You would think working in a fry factory & watching that endless parade of product rolling by would leave you faintly unimpressed/bored with the idea of eating them but they are so pervasive that I still eat the things upon occasion. Nothing wrong with fries.

I worked at McDonald's once, and honestly, it's all clean.
When I was younger, I always thought McDonald's fries were extremely fake and bad.
However, it's very simple and up to the point. I'll uncover this myth.
We just get potatoes, make dem shape, fry that fatty potato, salt those dead potatoes, and boom!
That is in a nutshell, so it isn't the most specific. It's just a summary.
Honestly, a dollar for these fries might be sketchy, as healthy fries will never be that cheap.
Of course, it isn't healthy, french fries are fast foods.
Some are, but in return, it tastes pretty bad.
Just be glad that you get intermediate fries for a dollar, it's not healthy but at least it isn't bad.
