Never be another person like ray he is the best at what he does. Thanks for the songs Ray. I have a lot of great memory of my dad and me listening to you back in the 80s
I always looked forward to VBS week in early June every year because after each lesson we were rewarded with fancy store-bought cookies and real fruit punch, not just Koolaid. I sat through the lessons quietly and patiently with only those refreshments on my mind.
Vacation Bible School was a very important part of the summertime. It's changed some now. Many churches have it at night instead of day. Several use the same programs. Hopefully this album and Surely You Joust will be reissued on CD. The used copies are very expensive. Even downloads would be nice!
I remember going to VBS every summer here when I was kid, did arts and crafts and all kinds of things, one summer I even memorized Psalms 23 for a recital at the end of the week.
I have these on Cassette, and Record Album, even back in the day when these alblums where new. I grew up with Ray Stevens, I was a fan of him, this song was especially funny, the silliest one he ever did was the Dooright Family, I played it so many times, my older brother came into my room and crushed the boom box in a million peices, he got tired of hearing it over and over.
This song as well as so many in your collection were (in my opinion) the perfect example of use for popular music when I was young. I thought I would never hear many of them again. Thanks for posting!
@TheShospitali Thank you for commenenting, and this is one of my fav's, and I played this one over and over. I think it is a great song. I will be posting the Dooright Family soon, so stay tuned
I'd not heard this one before or if I had, I'd forgotten it. Ray Stevens has many great story songs that I love, this sadly is not one of them for me, but not all of them can be homeruns, I guess.
I heard most of them, the squirrel revival and the one about Doris and the snakes.... But that had to be 100 to 120 proof for a man to quit his preaching job
yes when I was about seven years old an old Tampa Nugget cigar box spray painted gold with the shell macaroni noodles on top...used that pencil box all year at school
Well of course! I remember gluing popsicle sticks together then sticking a ceramic gray elephant to the middle and voila, a wall plaque. Good memories.
This was so funny I cracked up laughing that's ray Steven's for you
Yes it is
Ray Stevens is a national treasure!

+swauer80 I ended up finding this one and like 2 or 3 different records by Ray Stevens in a record lot that I bought
Reminds me of my childhood. That's funny
CLEAR CREEK BAPTIST WHAT??? L.M.B.W.A.O!!!
Is the aluminum siding salesman reference to something from Jerry Clower?
Possibly.Ray Stevens & Jerry Clower(I know that you read that in his voice"Haaaaaw!") were good friends.
have not heard this one in idk how many years
Anyone in vacation Bible school ever make those cigar box things with the macaroni glued on top then spray painted ?
yes when I was about seven years old an old Tampa Nugget cigar box spray painted gold with the shell macaroni noodles on top...used that pencil box all year at school
Well of course! I remember gluing popsicle sticks together then sticking a ceramic gray elephant to the middle and voila, a wall plaque. Good memories.

How many did YOU make? I used to steal all the fake diamonds for those.
I remember doing that.

Ah, the things we used to do........
This song is so funny.
I would pay real money to go to VBS and have this happen. Hilarious.
Missippi squirrel revival
Yes YAH. ??? Lol lol
His tale of drugging an entire church congregation is both amusing and slightly disturbing.
Audio sucks on this.
