I really enjoyed this video, your the only guy on the internet that gave a in depth analysis of Pnc credit cards. I have their trifecta so thanks man !
Glad to hear it sir. I try to work the smaller banks in because to your point there is a gap on YT about them. Also you can find some gems like the cash rewards card which is on my list to get one day
Pnc definitely isn’t talked about as much. Nice coverage of these options RJ!
Appreciate it sir. Gotta give the little guy some love... or not that little after this merger lol
Been saying this for years and commenting under other videos especially when folks mention best category earners etc and i mention PNC for gas obv. Most underrated card. Mark Reese was the only guy i ever saw mention it as its been a staple of his forever
Yea I agree, the cash rewards is by a long shot their best card. All of their other cards are just not there as you can do better elsewhere
I stared at the points card for a long time trying to figure out what the catch was... like this is too good to be true... and sadly it was
The PNC Cash Rewards 4X on gas is the only card that I would consider. They did copy & paste Bank of America's Tier system, too bad they can't match or beat them on redemption.
It took me awhile to figure out what the catch was... BofA is the way to go especially if you're going to have that level of capital committed to a single bank
They are a good financial institution, relatively solid. During 2008-9 they avoided the bogus housing bubble and real-estate crash that Citi, BOA, and others fell into. Good rates on other loan categories - if you qualify.
I love their bank bonuses. Working thru a biz checking one now and just paid out on a personal checking
great analysis RJ. i used to bank at PNC & almost applied for 1 of their cards, but decided to skip it. glad i did.
Just hit a checking account bonus with them the other day. Cash rewards is solid but once I drilled into the points card I was disappointed. Good call on the pass
Have the Green Card. Its okay for everyday purchases. I like it and I bank with PNC! It offers allot more than my other cards(points wise anyway) also. Thinking about the Premier card (from PNC) or the US Bank connect or GO Cards.
I like the Premier from Citi. Altitude Go is also a great one. Connect I'm not as high on in year #2. Annual fee seems high compared to the Premier. Especially adding a Custom Cash and Double Cash to the Premier, I think that's a solid setup.
@@RJFinancial I have checked into the Citi Premier. They have sent me every card application except for that one! Altitude go my be my choice as I prefer to get cards from banks that I have a relationship with and the go is no fee with the No FX fee I am looking for. Not looking to get lots of cards also. Have four now and two more is all I want for my purposes. Will get the Amex Plat card and find the best visa Signature card out there.
While I was listening, I paused to do the math and was noticing 4x points with 75% boost is 7 points per dollar. My instant thought was "This is gonna end up being some Hilton Honors points type stuff..." haha Sure enough; it's worth even less lol ah well some return on spend is better than none at all. *shrug* Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge. Take care, sir.
Haha sorry to be a kill joy. Honestly it took me so long to figure out what the catch was on the clear points card... have to dig into the TC and then the Bankrate article to put it together.
@@RJFinancial You definitely aren't a kill you, sir. Happy to have the knowledge. 😁 At least saves us the "leg work" of digging thru the T&C and all fine print. 🔥
PNC is my main bank that I use while churning others. Although, I do funnel all my money through Porte and Capital One before I ACH transfer into PNC. I also have a Core card with them but now that I’ve paid my balance transfer off I really don’t know what to do with it. I don’t want to close it and give up the $15k line of credit, so I guess I’m stuck doing the random pack of gum on it for the rest of my natural life.
Just hit a checking bonus with them the other day. See if PNC does product changes and switch it to the Cash Rewards maybe?
@@RJFinancial I thought about that when I paid it off. A quick Google search told me that they don’t but, I really should call and find out from them directly. I’m waiting until the end of July so I can convert my account from the Performance Select ($400 bonus) to the regular Virtual Wallet account and not have to worry about the $5k direct deposit every month to avoid fees. I’m really liking Porte and would love to make that my main bank but my wife likes the convenience of PNC being a half mile from the house and being able to deposit cash in the ATM.
…The things I do for love.
I'll have to take a closer look at PNC
Just finished my checking account bonus with them. May hit them again for a business checking soon.
@@RJFinancial I'm a big fan of Biz acct's. Opening a 5th tomorrow with PNC.
Secured card has a $3 monthly fee
Yuck, would avoid that and look at an entry level cap one card. Thanks for the catch
After my next chase and that capital one savor one the cash back and that $200 bank bonus is what I'm checking out around October.
I just got paid out for my PNC checking account bonus. $5k in direct deposits for $300. They pay quick, I recommend it.
My credit went bad due to a divorce and foreclosure. I paid off my Capital One credit card and closed the account. For nearly 10 yrs I have not used a credit card. Now I need a credit just to sign up to sell books on Amazon. What are my chances of getting a PNC credit card with the lowest limit? I've been a PNC customer for about 7 months.
Should be doable. I imagine your credit has improved in the 10 years. If not PNC then Capital One is probably your best bet. They're focused more on people building or rebuilding credit. Plus Cap One cards are probably more interesting (outside of the cash rewards from PNC)
$0.0021 per point? Ouch. That 50,000 point bonus is worth about $105 in gift cards, then.
I looked at this one for so long trying to figure out what I was missing... why is nobody talking about this amazing card...oh because math... Cash Rewards is still a gem for gas
@@RJFinancial 100% agree. I was digging through T's and C's last night, trying to determine "how much is a 'point' worth, eh?" -- and got the impression it couldn't possibly be a penny each. Then I did a google search and found your channel and this video! I subscribed, too.
@@DugrozReports Hey, I appreciate that sir. Similar minds lol. Now you can hand the homework off to me when you want! Welcome aboard and let me know if you have any questions
RJ,
Awesome coverage of PNC bank. You don't see a lot of people cover them. I do know the PNC cash back card is the one most people talk about for good credit cards. I have heard nothing on there business cards. Uggh you are lucky to get that 300 dollar bonus. PNC bank isn't in CA yet. But with the recent merger and buying of BBVA they will be soon. I got my bonus from BBVA for opening a bank account sweet 200 bucks for one direct deposit. They paid fast in 3 days after deposit they pay out. Love quick pay outs. I wonder if the credit card lineup on both BBVA and PNC will change and get better now? I sure hope they offer a big bonus to become a member once the merger is final. I will be right there to get there money..lol.
I couldn't get BBVA bonus up here, just the way the game goes I guess. With the merger I'd guess it would depend on how big the card business is for BBVA. Could be some things PNC takes or if its not great, just convert them to PNC cards. PNC had a $400 bonus at one point, so they know how to be enticing lol
4x on gas with $0 AF is great, the only card worth getting, question, how is the redemption? direct deposit to any bank account?
I read this as only can be deposited into a PNC account.. which is weird
www.pnc.com/content/dam/pnc-com/pdf/personal/CreditCards/cash-rewards-terms-conditions.pdf
try to explain more each product. There are multiple concepts that I particularly did not understant. thanku
Anything in particular I can add more context to now?
Remember PNC is still a Bank and they play safe so your credit score needs to be over that 740 marker to get approved without an account with them
That's funny considering they don't have the card catalogue offerings to demand that level of a score. Either way, thanks for sharing
Yea they're more risk adverse, but better rates on other loan categories
RJ,
Did you see the record 100k offer for the CSP card. That is insane 100k points on a 95 dollar credit card.
It's shaping up to be a Chase heavy weekend recap show. Lounges, 100k, and making it harder to add a P2....
@@RJFinancial of course they are going to make it harder. Banks like money and like to keep it.
Is the categories quarterly ? Or can you use the 4% cash back all year around ?
The multipliers work on combined purchases up to the first $8k per year. Then it drops to 1x until the new year starts.
@@RJFinancial so if I use the card for gas it would still give me 4% cash back even if I don’t hit the 8k in that year ?
@@divine6133 did you figure this out? Trying to get first cc
Hi what is the credit score requirement?
Wallet Hub reports 750 but that seems really high for these kinda cards. I'd say low 700's should do it but not sure of this articles source.
wallethub.com/answers/cc/credit-score-for-pnc-credit-card-2140684063/
Does the 4% include costco gas?
I believe that should code as a gas purchase. Costco fuel or something like that
At my local Costco it does code as gas eligible for 4% cash back!
I don’t really like this bank.
Worst UI I’ve ever seen at a bank
Solid!
That cash rewards card is a gem. Amazing that PNC doesn't push it more
250k plaque card
USA bank news
25,000 or 2,500?
Been awhile, in reference to what?
@@RJFinancial minimum redemption you stated toward the beginning of the vid was 25,000 points
@@FinanceNation That's my bad. It's $25 or 2,500 points
@@RJFinancial thanks for the response! They have a really good card 4 pt for everything plus bonuses for banking there up to 8 pt for everything for dollar but I hear its hard to get card
@@FinanceNation The Green cash rewards card is their best one. I've heard similar. Likely easier if your an existing checking customer. They offer some good bank bonuses as well. www.profitablecontent.com/pnc-200-400-checking-bonus/
PNC bank is in trouble. Over Exposed and Under Insured. First Big bank domino. I wouldn’t feel safe.
business card 😂
Simple and to the point lol
