Very well done video. Straight to the point. I have a friend who lent us a 2006 Toyota Sienna van with a noisy flex pipe. Went to a local chain to get a quote: $550 including an O2 sensor "Because it's rusted in there and might not come out". $380 without the O2 sensor. I told them 'yo mama' and put some muffler wrap on it as a temp fix until I can get the actual flex pipe for it. Thanks again for making this for all of us.
I have a cracked flex pipe in my 2007 Camry and am hoping the garage I called will fix it with out the rest of catalytic converter. First garage told me no, they would only do the whole thing. So I wish you were in my area!!! Thanks for the video, now I see it can be done.
Thank you sir. Crisp clean and no caffeine video. Have the EXACT same problem. I work for BMW and my BMW tech advised me to get the whole exhaust from manifold to cat. he was going to do it off the clock at the shop. He said because of that o2 bung and not enuff space to get around to weld. Based on your vid I think he didn't want to get too involved lol I'll show him your vid and alwalk away lol.. Thanks again. I have another guy at our Infiniti shop that'll do it your way! Much appreciated....
Thanks for the video. All was helpful except the manifold pipe should be inserted into the flex pipe, not the other way around. Clearly the way you did it will work, but its not the way you route exhaust gasses to hit a hard edge of a pipe as it won't last nearly as long as doing it the proper way. Even so, thanks for the look at the job ahead.
Hello, I have the same car, and im having a tuff time welding mine in. Also, did you put your car on jack stands? I used ramps, which was a little tough for room. I used a stick welder with 6013 sticks. Thanks in advance, for your prompt reply!
Where and when do people have to do an emission test? Sounds pretty common yet I have never heard of it here in ky, I mean we don’t have to do a test or whatever
Your caliper will work better if you put a battery in it. Good tip on the blade reversal, will keep that in mind. You don't have to plug the saw in, it just takes longer to cut through. ;-) Boy your camera does not like all the RF coming off that welder. I watched this to see if a clamp version would work, and I think you answered my question. I guess I'll just go buy the whole pipe section, since that is easier than trying to pull the welder out from where it is currently buried. Too many tools, not enough garage.
Do you have any recommendations on what I should do I have an inch and a quarter of a hole but it's before the flex pipe and it's right as you're going near the manifold I'm not sure if that's a manifold pipe but right where it starts to curve out words is where the hole is I'm kind of in a budget so I was wondering if anyone on here could possibly help me especially knowing the size my car is the 3.5 l v5 .
so I'm going on a 19-hour trip, and I don't want to spend 600 bucks on a downpipe, do you think this will hold for that long of a drive? also, do you have any tips on reinforcing it? I was thinking of welding it, and also putting on some clamps in case the welds broke. Mitsubishi has such a bad design for where this thing it, its always under pressure which makes exhaust leaks faster
@@GrungeVeins actually was great, i was driving from pa to Tennessee for a guys trip with my older brothers and i. held perfectly fine, in fact i haven't touched it since, and ive put on about 20k miles since then, still holding fine.

Learn. You can do this with an $100 harbor freight flux core wire welder, and a $40 Harbor freight auto dimming helmet. (Remember gloves and ear pro and cotton or leather long sleeves for welding underneath a car)
Buy the flex pipe your self it's cheaper & labor cost is different every shop & only takes an hour mine cost me 80.00 & flexpipe was 30.00 bucks with warranty always be careful who works on your vehicles you don't need screwed over just

if you want to shake the living shit out of your entire exhaust system then use the saw if you want to do it right use a cut off wheel ..leave the sawzall for carpenters
If you're worried that a Sawzall is going to shake the rest of the exhaust system, you're definitely not gonna want to actually drive the car. That's gonna shake things way worse. A Sawzall is perfectly fine and way faster.
@@RestoCar i did watch after i opened my big mouth. Lol i ended up using some old rusty ramps i found but clamps were a no go.. I ended up buying some kind of putty that dries as a weld and it was good enough to get me through emissions so I'm good until I can get the thing high enough to pull that stupid front pipe out. It probably doesn't help that I need to do my front struts as well

lol You're welcome! The price they want for the full exhaust is crazy. Hopefully you were able to do this with your BMW.
Exactly my issue I am having now. 2011 Camry. Great video. Where are you located?
When welding a flex pipe, is it better to insert it inside the pipe or outside, or does it not matter? How about when using exhaust clamps?
I would say outside so you don't restrict the exhaust size.

He would’ve had to buy a bigger diameter flex pipe right?

Did you have any problems getting up behind the flex pipe? About to do the same with my titanium 125 flux welder on an 07 Camry lol

Will it pass the emission test if I don’t fix it?
Where and when do people have to do an emission test? Sounds pretty common yet I have never heard of it here in ky, I mean we don’t have to do a test or whatever
I just know last week, if you get 2.1/4 x 2.1/4 x 10 '' they fit on both sides and used 2.1/4 clamps thas it, yu don't have to weld.
For which car ? I have an 02 camry that needs this but I never done welding before
I can confirm it's the same size on 2008 carmy LE 2.4v. The body length of flex pipe is 6 inch.

Why didn’t you take the 1/2 off existing exhaust? Straighten up those cuts?

Why on earth would people down vote this video?
his welding
When i come to a stop when i have the air on it vibrates the exhaust a little and the rpm seams a little low
Can you do a video with the option of using clamps instead of welding because most of us don't generally know how to use a welder.
Learn. You can do this with an $100 harbor freight flux core wire welder, and a $40 Harbor freight auto dimming helmet. (Remember gloves and ear pro and cotton or leather long sleeves for welding underneath a car)
I have a 2002 Toyota Camry & it has to be welded when replaced not clamps I'm doing mine today & I'm a female.
Where there is a flex pipe there is a lot of movement and stress in the exhaust and clamps will not hold up nearly as well as welding.
I have this issue on my POS 2014 Jeep , but I'd rather drop as much as the exhaust as I could so I can make sure to get a perfect weld .

Awesome, thanks!
So about how much is this job at a small shop?
It should take the shop no more than 1 to 2 hours to install, so $50 to $100 plus parts would be my guess. Depends on the hourly rate of the shop.
Cost me $120 total
Like my tie rod was done in Feb & now it's June parts can be defective so always have warranties on parts so you don't have to spend more money.

Hi . What's the brand Welder do you used. is it used 110v or 220 v . Thanks
