    I have the same cooler but it is green, with a lid in the big lid. Im building this, for the sun fish I use as bait. We dont use shad here. Great job, dude.

    I’ve been seeing all these live bait wells, and I was wondering why people were using a cooler like you are. Great way to control the water temperature and water environment and take it with you!

    Great job and great video. You gave a lot of ideas. And here in northern Cali. We halibut fish in the bay of San Francisco and use live anchovies. Now I can get live anchovies and be able to keep them alive.

    JB Weld is good for fixing cracks also. I used some to seal a crack on an old toilet tank. It was sealed and ready to hold water in a couple of hours. Works good!

    Excellent video,love the way u went extra,the only thing is,I would have took some aluminum angle,and went around the edges,for a splash guard....lose a lot of water without it.

    Very nice build! I’m glad you built a filter! Most folks don’t use one on their builds. One caution is 5200 is not considered aquarium safe so it can kill bait but if you let it cure a week it should be fine

      @OMFishingUSA  2 года назад +1

    I was thinking you were going to bring the wire straight into the back of your junction box and just silicone around the box. Keep the wire protected outside from being snagged on anything.

    I have a second pump on mine so that I can pump out and recirculate the water depending on what way the valve is turned. And I also have inner plexiglass doors so that the fish can’t jump out when lid is open

    • @OMFishingUSA
      @OMFishingUSA  Год назад

      I put a Y valve with cutoffs so I can pump it out. 👍

    I followed your plan to the T and it all works good. I have questions about not including an air pump. The recirculating water would provide oxygen if the ice chest is vented. But, your plan is a sealed system. Eventually you would think your fish would use up the oxygen in the water. I haven't put fish in mine yet and will wait to see if all goes well on my first trip. I plan to test O2 levels now and then. If low, I guess I will add a bubbler.

    • @OMFishingUSA
      @OMFishingUSA  Год назад

      I never even thought of that. I am opening and closing so much that I guess it’s always getting air in. But that is a very valid point. If you are going to have it closed a lot then yeah that could present an issue.

    • @OMFishingUSA
      @OMFishingUSA  Год назад

      Honestly I don’t lose bait but I could see how a bubbler could help for sure.

    Good way to help from any splitting or cracking is to drill your hole in reverse with your drill. While it’s also cutting, it melts the plastic around it at the same time and creates a better hole.

  • @michaelsanders7587
    @michaelsanders7587 2 года назад +1

    You don't really need the mesh screen on the intake since you are using filter material.

    Really cool build! Nice work! I would try to stay away from 5200 on anything that touches the inside or water moving spots as it is not considered aquarium safe and can be harmful to the bait. It’s a slight chance that any harm can come but better safe than sorry

    How many shad can fit 8n this cooler when done or flathead bait can fit in this

    • @OMFishingUSA

    I'll bet water sloshes out in choppy conditions. That's why they make livewells with a squar hatch on top to access bait. Then water can't slosh out. It can shlosh, but not out. This has vertical walls with no lip.

    • @OMFishingUSA
      @OMFishingUSA  Год назад

      Yeah but you just don't fill it all the way. If you lose a little water no biggie. I have never lost much.

  • @ChaseA185

      Yeah fill it with hose water add a cup of natural salt (water softener) then add 10ml of stress coat and 10ml of ammonia blocker

  • @kevenbeene4585

    Why not run 100% of wiring through the junction box. , Nice build , i made my own aerator out of 1/2" pvc and drill holes. I made it full length.

    • @OMFishingUSA
      @OMFishingUSA  Год назад

      I ran everything I could in the junction box. The only thing that isn’t in the box is wiring going to the pump and going to the battery. I used the spray nozzle because it helps circulate the water. Shad need moving water down here.
