      The last time I built one of these was about 2 years ago and the material cost from our local hardware store was around $250-$300. That includes and pump barrel and all the hardware bolts and washer you may already have. With the amount of time and precision I would not feel right pricing one that high. If you decide to build one I would happy to answer and questions along the way as best as I can I will now be active on this channel and uploading outdoorsman DIY type of things.

    Question. Wouldnt it be better to pull water into pump from the bottom of barrel. Filter material below pump with holes drilled into bottom of filter pipe for water intake. This way you would be picking up waster from bottom. Appears your design may not be picking up water from bottom of tank. Want to build one for shad. Thanks for video, you got me thinking. 😂

    • @MichaelHaygood-dw6hd
      @MichaelHaygood-dw6hd 10 месяцев назад

      Yes I agree with you ,and also I've heard you have to keep pumping fresh water in and waste water out for shad .I would like to know if that is a fact .

    Building my first one now, love your design and video!! Only parts im missing to complete this would be a reducer from my pvc elbow to the spray bar and the spray bar end cap. Any recommendations on what to call those parts/where to find them?? Thanks for an awesome video and all your help!

    • @biga1859
      @biga1859  2 года назад +1

      Awesome David! Glad your building one!! The specialized reducer that transitions you from the 3/4 pvc to the spray bar is not all that special. Because I got mine at my local Lowes home improvement.. I've purchased all of mine there. Just find someone in plumbing and show him the picture of mine. They will have it! The end cap as well 👍

    This is a great looking tank. How did you make the lid set flush. The opposite side of the hinges when you open and close lid is it hitting some metal tabs? You don’t really show it in the video. I’m wanting to make a similar tank. Thanks in advance

    • @biga1859
      @biga1859  3 года назад +1

      The lid is setting on top of 5-6 1in "L" brackets. The brackets are screwed into the plastic tank, down from the top at the exact thickness of the wood. Then I screwed up through the bottom of the brackets into the wood to secure it.
      Yes the lid comes down and sits on two small metal tabs that are screwed into the bottom of the lid.

    Hey y'all, So when I uploaded the first bait tank video I had no idea I would have so much interest. Honestly I was just proud of my work and wanted to help other with a limited income make some pretty cool outdoors stuff. Since then I have completed a few other projects like an elevated box blind, food plots, apple trees for your deer and other wild animals you may hunt, homemade furniture, home renovations, and videoed wild game hunts, id love to start sharing some of things if anyone would be interested!? if you have any specific projects you'd like to see just let me know. Thanks everyone!

      I only built these for myself and my brother in law. I can't build them cheap enough to feel good about a selling price. Materials typically run about $200-300 but the time it takes to build them is very time consuming. So I don't build them to sell I'm sorry..

    What demention did you cut the lid to get it to fit that good

    • @biga1859
      @biga1859  4 года назад +2

      So sorry for the delayed response but this is a great question. This was a trial and error I can save many people from going through if your just starting your tank. The exact measurement is 22-5/16. I would suggest cutting the lid 22-3/8 and fine sanding from there to an exact fit. Hope this helps!

    • @biga1859

      I sprayed on 4-5 coats of polyurethane. Which was one full can.. That was after 2-3 coats of minwax stain. Stain soaks up quick you can get all 3 coats on, in one full day..

    How does it pick up poop off the bottom of the tank? Looks like those slotted vents are 4" from the bottom.

    • @biga1859
      @biga1859  3 года назад +2

      Remember the tank is made to keep bait fish alive for 1-3 days.. Anything longer than that should require a more sophisticated system.. I will say this. I have kept bait fish alive in this exact tank for over a week,,, but that's pulling the drain plug and replenishing the whole tank with fresh water and shad keeper everyday. If you are doing that, the poop at the bottom, will flow very freely out of the large drain plug that is positioned at the very bottom of the tank.

    Does it matter how high the water goes over the cut outs in the filter pipe

    • @biga1859
      @biga1859  4 года назад

      Another great question Nathan sorry for the super late response. Ive had great success leaving 3/4 to an 1 inch at the top of the filter cut outs. You could go lower if you have less bait fish.

      1 in stainless steel L brackets. Mount them around the plastic tank, set the wood top onto it, then screw 3/4 in screws up through the bottom of the plywood through the L brackets.. Hope that helps!
