Women's football: Do I personally enjoy it? No. Do I appreciate and respect that it's a thing?: Yes. Is it on the same level as Mens Football?: No. Do I want it to stay and carry on? Yes.
The level of women's play has skyrocketed during my lifetime. Even as someone who doesn't watch games, highlights alone show how big the shift is, and viewership is rising along with it. I hope it continues. The sport has big names and recognizeable international stars, which was never a thing before. Goalkeeping is by far the aspect lagging the most. Women's smaller size and lower athleticism holds them back there the most. However, it makes for more goals, so it isn't all bad.
Yeah i always thought that smaller pitches and goals would really benefit the womens side, issue is alot of the allure for these games is the stadiums they play in all due respect.
@@danielmcgrath680 I actually think the mens pitches and goals probably need to be bigger. Especially the goals, the size of a goal hasn't changed in the past 100 years but the average size of a keeper has gone from 5ft 8 - 5ft 9 to like 6ft 3. Keepers are too big for the old goals now.
@@mintaz1602 I actually completely disagree. Most pitches in the prem are the same size as Old Trafford, Etihad and Emirates which are considered big pitches and i think its kinda perfect. Big enough to get rinsed for pace, small enough to not literally pass out from pressing. I also think the goals are fine. Are we seeing a drought in goals scored from a favourable xg position?, pretty much all 1on1s go in or atleast you except them to. Im not seeing it tbh
Right before the 1921 ban by the FA, there were numerous womens matches getting 40k+ attendances, which was often higher than mens teams at the time. On boxing day 1920 there was a charity match between 2 womens teams which got 53,000, which was higher than the FA Cup final that year.
As a Chelsea fan, watching the women's team has been like a comfort blanket these past two years. On a more serious point, I think people have to remember that not long ago even at the highest level a lot of the players were still semi-pro, they were working part time jobs. The standards have been improving very quickly very drastically, but it still can't happen overnight. That's part of what makes it exciting to me, the fact that we're seeing a sport in an era of rapid growth before it feels completely corrupted.
Same.. Been following the Woman's team actually thanks to Fifa but it is exactly as you said.. Kind of comfort blanket and a nice change from the chaos in the man's team 😂 I actually went to my first Chelsea match to watch the woman's a few weeks ago and it was really cool.. It was just chill
It's also refreshing to see Womens football Remind me of football basics, the good old days Fast, direct, even the players enjoy themselves more It isn't as complicated tactically as the men game Or at least that is what i think about it
As a Barca fan I can relate, and that was what brought in the numbers at the Camp Nou, the men had been losing a lot while the women were winning, the fans just wanted something to celebrate and the women gave them so much more, they came to watch them and stayed woth them, our women's team has arguably the biggest fanbase 💙❤️
Problem I also notice is if onana for example makes a mistake he gets mocked and he's called a bad goalkeeper blah blah blah but if a woman keeper makes a mistake we mock women's football as a whole
yes, a lot of it is just sexism. the goalkeeping is the worst part of it tbf though, although as the keepers are not as tall you get quite a lot of goals from the halfway line over her head, which is pretty great.
@@UserTheLion7722 Yep, like all those useless compilations made my by tater-tots & their ilk where they'll show mistakes from the women's game & then contrast them with worldies from the men's game. Like, do you not think I could do the same thing in the opposite direction, mate? Every single footie loving kid in the 90s had Nick Hancock's Football Nightmares on VHS, ffs.
It's a situation where the women's game is still gradually progressing as a whole but I do love to see that Europe at least is making more of a push for it in recent years rather than just letting the Americans dominate the world stage. Ideally, with the more competitive it gets, the more interest it can attract for sponsors and networks to make the investment to be more viewed and gradually drive up more revenue for all parties involved. It will take time but given that the WNBA's going through something similar in the U.S. right now and showing signs of growth, I'm optimistic about women's football having that sort of gradual growth in a similar manner over the next decade. Just...sports are cool. And the more opportunities and chances we can have for folks living and breathing that want to pursue them in a professional manner and make a living from it, the better.
I always knew women’s football as just, well really, football. I was only 9 when my dad had me watch the 2011 Women’s World Cup and I thought it was just as big as Men’s. I was so confused and a bit disappointed when people didn’t know what I was talking about when bringing up names such as Wambach, Marta, Sinclair, even Rapinoe before she became a social justice warrior. I don’t expect everyone to enjoy it like I do, but it does scream virgin when football fans have a weirdly strong and sexist opinion on it.
As a Canadian, I followed our women's national team far more closely than I did our mens national team for the first 18 years of my life. Prior to about 2019, Womens soccer was the only reason the sport was semi relevant in Canada. The quality of womens soccer has skyrocketed massively over the past ten years. And as interest in womens soccer increases, they'll make more money. I have no doubt that rapid progress will continue to be made in the sport.
I once went to a Serie A match, Napoli VS Hellas Verona. Instead of "normal" ballboys, there was Naples' women team (not affiliated with Napoli) who just trained on the sides, not bothering anyone, and getting the balls on the field. They seemed so fast and intense, and I appreciated them, all while enjoying the game. It was a fun moment, and I'd love to see more interactions between men's football and women's football like this
I think it's great that womens football is becoming more popular. However, the reason men get paid more at the club level is that they bring in more money. Im from Ireland, and the womens team gets paid the same as the men since August 2021. The men took a pay cut
That's fair play to the Irish Mens National Team for doing that, however they likely will as the vast majority of their income comes from their club anyway
As a barca fan, for the past few seasons, where the men's team is not in a good form, I always tune in the Femeni's match to cope. The femeni team never fails to deliver and give joy to us fan especially during those hard times lol. I respect both.
We heard We came We stayed 💙❤️ I love that team so much cos they gave us so much to celebrate, playing amazing football and winning trophies. I hope it continues with the new coach
As someone who has played women’s football my whole life it is refreshing to see it getting more attention. I wish people who hate it for no reason would just stay silent rsther than going out of their way to cause negativity. Football is a sport that should unite
Real Sexism will always exist, but I'll be honest, I'll make sexist jokes and try to make people laugh (including my wife) with irony, but I know in my heart of hearts that I want the best for my fellow humans no matter what color creed or gender u are. So don't take the jokes too seriously some of us are just stupid children still and we don't wish u any harm or Ill feelings. ❤
@@Vizeh I do some work at a club and have done filming for the women’s team at times, so I got to watch a lot of it and I really grew to love it, they ended up going up as champions and it was just great to see
As a woman living in US, a huge football fan. I think maternity leave is more important than equal pay in sports. There are a lot of issues that only apply to women in US that require solutions over who gets paid more to kick the ball.
Thought it was super interesting that Arsenal have had their first ever pregnancy on the team with Amanda Ilestedt. Saw a video today where Katie McCabe was talking about how it was great for the club to learn from the process so that it will be easier for the next person.
I never went to a woman's football match, until my niece wanted to go, she's only 5 but absolutely loves football, she's already told me "I want to play football when I grow up" she always wants to play football with me, her dad or her brothers
That depends where you are from. USA women are way more successful and better known than the men and England women’s team actually win trophies. Imagine Harry Kane the best scorer but with no trophies in his 30s 😂😂
I live in Orlando. I’ve never been to a Women’s soccer game. Turns out the best female player of all time plays every weekend 15 minutes from home. Just bought tickets after this video
Growing up i have always followed football but my family has pushed me to also look closely at womens football and im happy they did. As a girl playing and watching football but knowing i would not make it big beacuse womens football has never gotten that recognition. But seeing how much the game has grown is phenominal, seeing the attendance numbers and the rivalries and atmospheres at the games has been great. As a Chelsea fan, watching the women's team has been so comforting. The standards are increasing we have sides winning quadruples and 5 peats and its incredible to see. Also as a england fan and a women the fact that the only trophy we have won as a nation in recent years has been the Euros and reaching the WC final is super amazing
I started follow women's football as a whole after World Cup 2019. I know Lyon, i know USWNT, but i really even didn't know back then that Barcelona had a women's team. World cup 2019 opened my eyes and introduced me to Vivianne Miedema, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmati, etc. In my opinion, women's football will always most likely be associated with national teams performance like in world cup or olympics. Look at USWNT players, they don't even recognized while playing for their clubs and only relevant when they performed well in major international tournaments.
I am not some insecure, limp weirdo. I want Liverpool Women's team to be taken more seriously, tbh because more success across differing levels is only a good thing for the club as a whole. My niece is involved with Spurs, too. Still early doors, but she is in the youth academy anyway. I support her entirely. On the flipside, like with basketball, I don't know why they are so utterly offended by the suggestion a little smaller pitches and goalposts is a bad thing. I think both would improve women's football beyond the top 1% (City, Chelsea, Barca, and Lyon seemingly) teams.
all new stadiums would have to be built, when a big part of the attraction is playing in camp nou, the emirates etc.. it could be seen as patronising, would prob only give more men an excuse to shit on it, and also every existing and youth player would have to completely adapt to basically a whole new game.
As an American I think women’s football deserves more respect. I’m a Liverpool fan and I watch way too much of them, but, although at times there is a quality drop, women’s football has had some of the most incredible goals and plays I’ve seen. When they score though, it’s called “poor defending,” and when they miss it’s poor attacking. We should take a second to praise the hard work that they put into this that can’t be written off as the other team putting in a poor performance
It’s quite simple - how do you expect an industry that receives literally over 50x in revenue (which correlates with investment) to have the same quality? It’s silly to expect otherwise, and that’s why we need to support and give outsized investments into the woman’s sport so that it can thrive (as it is). Like Vizeh said, they were banned 100 years ago. They’d be a lot further along now if they didn’t have structural issues holding them back! Also - as any football fan, I want more football to watch, so can’t knock it down
The main issue could be how long would it need to be pushed and financially sustained by that original entity before it's seen as a burden. That's my main concern, would that glass ceiling be made because fundamentally I think it's a grassworks issue as you'll need to train younger girls to play football at a higher level early on which may takes 1-2 decades to see the overall quality level rise.
@@Vizeh we are talking about revenue figures that are 50x more! If you double the outsized investment towards the woman’s game (assuming breakeven, eg, Real Madrid of 7.5m, bringing it up to 15m), that’s 7.5 cost on men’s team, which is less than 1% of their revenue. Completely affordable (if not negligible). The footballer club should serve ALL players, not just the male players.
Fifa and uefa keep saying we want more games. Sure we do, but give the boys a chance to rest! They're exhausted and the matches suffer for it. Invest in women's footie. Top men's players could play over 70 matches in a year. That's way too much. Allow the girls to pick up the slack by making their tournaments more competitive and engaging.
@@Vizeh The sooner we invest on it, the sooner it will be sustainable. Young girlst interested in sports were always there, they missed the oppportunity. Imagine telling your daughters they can't play because it's not profitable.
The equal pay thing was valid in the USA where women's international football is at least as popular as men's. So it's fair enough to ask for the same money. I don't see any female players in Europe asking for exactly the same money as the men, because they know they are not going to get it. I'm now a bit bored of super-optimised men's football and prefer the more old-school and relatable style of the women's game, which as you said, is getting better and better. Plus no VAR. It is possible to really enjoy football which is of a lower technical level than the EPL or other top men's leagues, those of us who love women's football are not fooling ourselves it's the same level. I went to see a Barça Femení match last season, loved the atmosphere and the football was really entertaining.
If you enjoy the slowest and least steep roller coaster at the amusement park, go ahead, but I'm not wasting my time getting on it because there's a 100mph one with a 60 foot drop. That's how i see men's vs women's football.
My wife and I played soccer in high school and college respectively. As we are both 34, I think soccer or football on the women's side has inproved...we just don't watch it often besides the world cup or euros.
I mean I'm getting into women sports. Football when they had the world cup, I was a big fan of Spain. Fell in love with Bonmati & Salma Paralluelo. Also with Lauren James, Sam Kerr. Now I'm into women's basketball. A'Ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Jack Young etc are moving me. I just enjoy it for what it is. Nothing more nothing less
Women football's quality issue is not exclusively due to biological differences, but due to the lower standard, where the gap between good and bad players is huge as the investment on the sport is lower and it feels like most players are lacking competitivity. I believe that if the correct investment is made on the club structures, the future players will attain a level that most football fans will consider as worth their time to go to the stadium and support their teams
The problem is that women's football standards are meager to the point where the few who try to play in the men's league tend to disappear from the spotlight. While Rapione tried to stay in NWSL to stay in the spotlight, Yuki Nagasato tried to play in the Japanese lower divisions (I think the 4th division) and struggled. One of the worst cases was Stephanie Labbe who joined a Canadian team in the US 4th division (Premier Development League now known as USL League Two) and they refused to allow her to take part despite being a summer league that only runs for less than 3 months and the majority of the players are from the college system who want to stay fit during the summer.
As a Barça fan, I have watched numerous Barça Femeni matches. The team is great. The football is very good. I don’t know why enjoying men’s football should preclude you from also enjoying the women’s one.
I know this might be controversial to say, but supporting a men's team, 23 home games, and several away being televised, over the course of 40 weeks. I just don't have the time, effort or finances to support the women's team. Its not a issue over the quality or lack of respect, it's just had to commit time to view both the men's and women's, its a big ask.
I hope the best for Women’s football. As a spurs fan I have many friends who are very passionate about the women’s game. We have a good women’s fan base. The issue (and this also applies to men) is constant arguments when the best thing we can do is focus are energy on letting the sport grow, just like we’d do with any men’s game. Quality (which men complain about can get solved by letting the sport grow. The men’s game got that opportunity much earlier. And for pay (which women complain about) let the sport grow.
As someone who’s lives in the US. Being so close to home with that controversy I think k definitely turns some fans away. With that being said though I do feel at least in the US it’s starting to feel better and more appreciated.
In these last months my club (FC Porto) has had many changes in the team and on the direction of the club, and from all the good things our new president is doing (Vilas Boas) I really like the fact of making a women's team, as a man I was really proud of that, and I'm even more proud that we got (I think) the most attendance in a women's game here in Portugal It's clear they are never gonna be better than men, but that move was reallyinteresting to see!
I wish Women’s Football the best. However what I don’t like is Women’s Football being treated as a tool for politics. Or being treated as if it’s the same and on par with Men’s Football which it isn’t. Women’s Football has a long long way to go and who knows maybe in 50/60 years time it is on the same level, and tbh I hope it is. But that doesn’t mean it should be treated as a tool for politics, nor insult people’s intelligence with delusional statements.
My problem with it is them constantly comparing themselves to men's football superstars and pay wages. Other than that, I just don't know why I should bother watching it when men's football is simply more entertaining because it is faster, stronger and more history behind it. Nothing about women's football is that different or noteworthy enough to watch it. That, and godawful women goalkeepers.
@@KeeperCharlie so everyone should just watch the premier league and no other league because the premier league is of higher standard? Ur just sexist mate
@@ifan_1234 who said anything about premier league? I also watch the championship and la liga and the euros etc. And guess what, I also watch women's archery and volleyball, because they are better and more fun to watch. Sex has literally nothing to do with it. It is the entertainmrnt value and quality of the sports. Women football is simply not there yet in terms of quality in my eyes. Arguably worsr than some sunday league matches so why should I waste time and money to watch them?
The important thing is: Womens football has to grow naturally. The equal pay debate, even though it had good intentions, made the sport look bad. The wages and fees in mens football are so damn overinflated make equal pay flat out Impossible.
I fully support women's right to play football, I fully support anyone who loves women's football. Do I want to watch it..? No, do most people want to watch it..? Going by the numbers, no they don't. There's the problem. It's not as good/fast/beautiful, and it's an inferior product to men's football. If it doesn't make money, it won't grow.
I think women’s football is still in the pure form of football, it’s very national league, play because you love the game vibes. I also think it’s fun, it’s great to watch. I just wish the pitches were smaller and the nets smaller too, it doesn’t feel as fast or as physical because the pitch is too big. I think the more eyes it gets, the better and women should want to grow it naturally not ask for money that is unsustainable.
I feel like if you give it a decade or two where it gets more popular and gets anywhere near the revenue of the mens game. The game gets more funding, players get trained better, the quality of the game improves. I am completely in support but i also believe they should make adjustments for the women’s game like smaller goals and slightly lighter balls . Because id love to get behind it, and i want it to succeed but some of the ‘best goals compilations shared on official channels are absolutely woeful.
They are definitely getting better everytime I watch them but their games are basically like international break football to me...I only pay attention if it goes above the status quo
It's strange that the women's game isn't more popular because it's basically the antithesis to everything that people say is wrong with the men's game: oil money ruining football, overpaid, spoiled players, constant diving and crying, corrupt refereeing, etc...
The biggest level of difference that I’ve noticed is in the goalkeeping. The women’s teams just cannot get good goalies. I enjoy watching Women’s football, but if the difference between men and women field players is that the men are 2x better (just for reference), then the difference between goalies is that the men are 10x better.
I’m surprised you didn’t show any footage from the 90s and early 00s. Duncan Ferguson, Roy Keane, Alan Shearer, Patrick Vieira? But that Jan Venegoor of Hesselink (yes that is the player’s name) scissor kick to maldini’s dead was crazy.
Honestly, as an advocate for women's football, I just think that women's football should continue to grow naturally, and as time goes on, more will begin to watch it regardless of its quality in comparison to men's football. Albeit, it will never reach the same level of popularity as the men's game - and that's not necessarily a bad thing, nor is it a necessarily a good thing, it merely is what it is. Megan Rapinoe needs to understand that money doesn't appear out of nothing, and that you can't manufacture an audience to justify a bigger payment. Most female players I have listened to encourage people to watch them play, but they never make demands or assume the worst out of those who are dismissive at first - they simply cannot afford to make demands. All we can do is encourage, and if people don't want to watch then that's their perogative.
Rapinoe wanting `equal pay' is not even the issue, it's that she demanded a bespoke deal for the women's team, only to claim unfairness when that deal did not reward her as the men's deal would have. Short version: the men's deal was results-based. The better you do, the better you'll be paid. Rapinoe & her teammates demanded a deal which was NOT results-based, which instead ensured financial security (e.g. paying players the same amount, even if they missed games through injury / maternity leave). But then, the USWNT won the World Cup, and she demanded to know why she wasn't getting a nice bonus (as the men would have done under their deal). No results-based deal, no bonus for excellence. She then threw her toys out, took the US Soccer Federation to court. Courts ruled that there was indeed unequal pay, and that it was in the women's favour - they were getting paid more. Wah, wah.
Men's football took centuries to become what it is today, Women's football is going through it now, expect its actually faster and safer financially for them then it was for men,s football back in 1900s
Mens football clubs where only established since around 1880, and by WWI there was tens of thousands attending games with stadiums overfilled far beyond what would be allowed today. So it didn't take centuries to grow, it took about 10 to 20 years.
@@StephenC-k5o to this level? Im not talking about attendance, more on the financial side of things, bit youre correct about not being "centuries" more like close to the 100y mark
@@duarte11_pt40 You do realise there was professional mens football in 1885, and they earned above the average wage in England since the turn of the 1900. That's about 20 years. They actually had wage caps to stop players earning too much until the 60s.
I really like womens football. Those girls play for the love of the game. When they get into football, they have to do it against the circumstances and without any perspective of it ever paying out. You feel and see that passion, when you get to know the players. If everybody just wanted to see the best football, why would anybody watch Burnley? If you like to root for grounded players, who leave their heart on the pitch - just give the girls a chance, watch their game, and, if you are interested, check their stories.
I saw Paris vs Bayern in the women’s CL and the parc de princes had the PSG ultras and a lot of school girls. Quality of play was pretty good. The game got pretty violent during extra time with the Bayern keeper getting kicked in the stomach. Even if I wasn’t a Bayern fan, I would’ve gone tbh
I've spoken to so many people about this god knows how many times and I've said the same point everytime. Women's football doesn't have enough income, enough overall marketing as much as the mens game. So when a woman's footballer says "we need more pay" the simple truth is that sorry you were born in the wrong generation cause your club and national team doesn't make as much money as the men you don't have enough eyes watching the sport. Thus women's footballers will get paid less. As much as I don't want it to be a issue it's the simple reality that we live in. Until this is addressed this will continue to be a issue.
Well, I’m a United fan and I rode the coattail of the ladies winning their first FA cup last year to make myself better about the men’s abysmal season 😂😂
Why are you caring so much about profitability?? Women's football has a massive disadvantage because of the DECADES of neglect from FIFA and clubs. It's not that women didn't want to play football, they didn't have an option. We need to invest in them because they deserve it. Your daughters, as any other women, should have the right to be able to play. Eventually they will all be profitable. We owe them a lot.
Something you missed in this video is that Rapinoe is right with regards to her international team. The USWNT gets more spectators than the USMNT, so really they should be paid at least the same as men for their international duties.
Yes, but when she was saying this, the USWNT players' club annual of those playing in the NWSL was being paid by US Soccer, and that was like 100k each, on top of bonuses if they win, insurance, benefits, etc, while the men were paid X for winning and Y for not winning. And each team got their own prize money.
EA has helped bring more recognition to Women’s football I only knew like 3 of them but since EA24 i know freaking Kundananji Have I watched a single game? No Have I even watched highlights? Maybe once or twice Chelsea W won 4PLs in a row and 🙂
I always watched the USWNT play in big games but fc 24 and 25 legit made me a big fan of women's football as a whole. I started watching as many games as possible and love seeing my club legends actually play irl 😂😂
i am loving all the comments about fifa - obviously knew that the women’s players are included but had no idea that anyone who weren’t otherwise fans of women’s football were engaging with that side of the game
Women football will get more respect if they leave the politics behind and just improve the things that they could be good at. I told my boys that women's football will be good when they get as technical as the men. They'll never competenphysically, but there's no reason why they can't be as technical...... Then I saw the Spanish women in the WC final... some of the nations are already there.
this season we had 2 records in polish football Ewa Pajor went to Barcelona for 0,5mln euro (record in womans football and raków częstochowa sold Ante Crnac to norwich for 11 mln euro this summs all about woman game but i'm happy that girls can play this sport on pro level thats the beauty of football
It can be easy to say that women's football isn't at the same level as the men. But here is a big but for me. Is all men's football at the same level and the same kind of playing style and so on? Is all women's football at the same level and the same playing style? For me it's no to both those questions. The difference in football is vast within each gender it becomes impossible to draw any usefull generalization. As a thought experiment, try and think if you really enjoy the playing style of all teams you have watched in men's football and if every match has been equally exciting and amazing to watch. I know my answer at least!
not sure if i want to venture into these comments with some men being..... the way they are. anyway as a woman who plays and loves football thank you for talking about it!!! i feel like a lot of the issues with pay etc are rooted in the way capitalism has taken over men's football and inflated wages at the top flight massively when realistically... nobody needs to be paid that much, regardless of gender. and like you said, people talking about levels/comparing the two games in terms of play isn't really helpful. like can't we just appreciate various teams as being good in their league as they are?? on another point though as a queer person i find it mind boggling the differences in lgbt+ acceptance and openness in the men's vs women's game. would be interesting to see a video on this generally...
The only thing I have is the women’s game isn’t as enjoyable to watch as men’s and I can’t help but as I’m watching the keepers especially and just think I could do better myself I just feel like women’s football is like Sunday league level and just dont enjoy watching it, but I think it’s great what there doing and I know some people love it
On the equal pay bit. Equal pay in international events should be baseline, if you get called up for your national team you should have the same pay and bonuses as men. It's like, duh, ofc. But for club football you hit it on the head. Most first dev male players don't earn as a fifth of the top earners, if even that. With time it may change, but that will take time.
There is no much room for mens football market to grow, in fact its more likely to shrink. So its natural to look into womens football. Also its a great opportunity for smaller clubs to grow and that could be beneficial for both women and men section of the club because of better recognition etc.
I appreciate Viz for making a pragmatic video on the topic… even though i’ll admit I dreaded the comments section! I don’t understand why some guys feel the need to shit on women’s football in every available comments section. There are plenty of music artists, movies and indeed sports out there that are not to my taste - but you don’t see me talking shit under the posts on Sky Sports Golf. If the video is a great goal, they will say they could have saved that when they were fourteen with their hands tied behind their back… if the post is about record attendances, it’s because the tickets are sold for peanuts… you get the drift. These are both things that you could say about football much further down the football pyramid, but you don’t see these guys trolling players and fans of those clubs. I can’t see any logical explanation other than just .. wanting to bring the women players and fans of their game down a peg or two? Why not let them get on with it? As a fan of both the men’s and women’s games - I recognise that the standard at the top level of women’s football isn’t at the level of the men’s as things stand, and the tickets are way indeed more affordable (although nowhere near as cheap as i’ve seen some claim.) Both of these things have to be put in the context of it as a developing sport playing serious catch up and with a lot less money floating around. But hell - if you’re an emerging music artist, the production value of your show and the cost of your tickets aren’t going to be up there with Taylor Swift. For the same reason, I don’t think the calls for equal pay are especially reasonable at this stage and I agree that it needs to become financially sustainable and I really hope it continues to grow at pace in terms of quality and revenue. I do think the default hostility towards it from some male football fans is a big barrier to growth though, sadly.
Their world cup last year was entertaining imo. Got me interested in watching a bit of the bwsl. Even got me excited for womens career mode in fc 25 ngl. While not on the same level as the mens, it is entertaining in its own way.
Sorry Vizeh I’m not getting behind why equal pay is a bad thing. They don’t want equal pay based off money, they aren’t stupid, they want equal pay based off percentages, which they currently don’t have. In addition, Rapinoe is mad about what the USWNT gets in comparison to the USMNT from the federation itself, which should be more since they have brought more success. I hate the word “agenda” when we talk about this, it’s something that should happen.
Success in terms of trophies doesn't always mean financial success. It wasn't US Soccer's fault when in 2016, after the women winning the WC, the prize money they got was still less then the men got the previous year after getting eliminated in the round of 16. The pay structure un US Soccer is still not equal today, before, the men had a stucture where they would get pay X if they win and Y if they don't, while US Soccer was literally paying the annual salary of at leas 20 players in the NWSL that were frecuently called up to the national team, and would pay benefits and insurace and a bunch of othere stuff for the women, and on top of that they were paying a bonus for winning games. Now, they get all the prize money together and give the same amount to everyone, and both teams have the same paying strucutre, and they still give extra benefits to the women that they don't give the men, so technically, it's still not equal.
Remember watching a WFA Cup game recently and it was quite good. I just don’t think it brings enough views for a lot of women footballers to claim for equal pay.
Sadly, the current state of our women's league is depressing. By the end of last season, one of the teams in first division decided to withdraw from the league. And that's not even talking about the little exposure it receives. They deserve better.
Wasn’t the team you’re talking about Reading though? I agree that it’s a sad moment for the women’s game but it might be more reflective of the shitshow that is that club.
The thing is with Rapinoe's demand for equal pay as the men makes a lot of sense in the context of USSF and the national teams. The USWNT especially at the time of the statement generated more revenue than the USMNT so it would logically follow that the women ought to be payed at least the same amount as the men for appearing for the national team to which I'd agree especially as an American who still has war flashbacks at the mention of Trinidad and Tobago and Panama. It's understandable why fans outside of US Soccer wouldn't know that since that isn't the case with any other national team (to my knowledge) but I think its an important bit of context to that argument that goes discarded.
Women’s football is only at an elite level internationally. The World Cup, Olympics, and euros are absolute class. Club football however is horrible to watch.

It was a fun moment, and I'd love to see more interactions between men's football and women's football like this
Women have no place in sport or politics.
Damn this guy is a father? I thought he was those youths talking about football man God bless you
I think it's great that womens football is becoming more popular. However, the reason men get paid more at the club level is that they bring in more money. Im from Ireland, and the womens team gets paid the same as the men since August 2021. The men took a pay cut

I can probably count on one hand the times I've heard someone's opinion about women's football being positive
And rightfully so. It’s more the whole brigade that try to force it upon us and when we say we don’t like it we are ‘sexists’
Unc has been dropping videos like crazy.
Very well said!
Except all the women support deracination they are overweight 5 minutes after retiring.

Same here bro
You must be kidding they are nasty
I don’t know why enjoying men’s football should preclude you from also enjoying the women’s one.
anytype of football im a fan of womens football, futsal, paraolympic, college football, semipro i just love it all!

I mean North Korea just won the U20 women's world cup so that's cool
My guy that jersey!!! Beautiful!
4:37 This kind of "shot" also happens in men's football. In Poland we call it "centrostrzał".
Iceberg format would fit perfect on this matter but nice either way 🙌
The biggest level of difference that I’ve noticed is in the goalkeeping.
Its not as popular as men's football. But it still does deserve higher wages and more TV revune.
No
How
Rapinoe wanting `equal pay' is not even the issue, it's that she demanded a bespoke deal for the women's team, only to claim unfairness when that deal did not reward her as the men's deal would have.

If you like to root for grounded players, who leave their heart on the pitch - just give the girls a chance, watch their game, and, if you are interested, check their stories.
u gae?
100% agree with this take
I saw Paris vs Bayern in the women’s CL and the parc de princes had the PSG ultras and a lot of school girls.
If you have a local team, you should support it. Men or women's
EA has helped bring more recognition to Women’s football
I only knew like 3 of them but since EA24 i know freaking Kundananji
Have I watched a single game? No
Have I even watched highlights? Maybe once or twice
Chelsea W won 4PLs in a row and 🙂
I always watched the USWNT play in big games but fc 24 and 25 legit made me a big fan of women's football as a whole. I started watching as many games as possible and love seeing my club legends actually play irl 😂😂
you should defo start watching it, there's plenty of wsl games on BBC and live on RUclips
i am loving all the comments about fifa - obviously knew that the women’s players are included but had no idea that anyone who weren’t otherwise fans of women’s football were engaging with that side of the game
@@thestooshiesince they put them in ultimate team alot of the names are more recognizable
Love women’s football. You never know who attacks or defends.
Women’s football is football. I don’t get why it’s polarizing at all. Either watch it or don’t.
not sure if i want to venture into these comments with some men being..... the way they are. anyway as a woman who plays and loves football thank you for talking about it!!! i feel like a lot of the issues with pay etc are rooted in the way capitalism has taken over men's football and inflated wages at the top flight massively when realistically... nobody needs to be paid that much, regardless of gender.
and like you said, people talking about levels/comparing the two games in terms of play isn't really helpful. like can't we just appreciate various teams as being good in their league as they are??
on another point though as a queer person i find it mind boggling the differences in lgbt+ acceptance and openness in the men's vs women's game. would be interesting to see a video on this generally...
The only time i will see 2 Norwegian teams in a vizeh video
While not on the same level as the mens, it is entertaining in its own way.
just like watching football, innit
I don't get the hate on women's football. It's two of my most favorite things into one thing. It's the best
Women’s football certainly has their knockers
Chelsea women go hard. Hopefully the men start catching up this season. Up the chels 😤
I watch both, my university has a women’s team that was quite competitive
I’m rooting for yall ladies 🙌🏼
Sadly it's still not profitable which is a huge problem long term
