@@DarkkirbyKRPG I still remember playing that escapade. I was sitting there like "This guy, with a magic headband that constantly floats in the air, wears it cause of a tongue twister? AND HE DIDNT EVEN REMEMBER It CORRECTLY?"
@@thejonbrownshow8470 well there is a difference in observation and practice. Seeing the results without the formula can only help so much, you don't see what clicks in the defense attorneys brain to come up with the answer they give, so someone who can observe the situation from multiple angles and then attack from said angles is most devastating
@@optimaltt6070 That's a good point though. Kazuma wanted to kill Gregson, but he didn't. He can still be redeemed, and Kazuma himself wants to overcome his demons. Karuma's tip may be broken, but it remains a solid weapon.
I love how Kazuma feels so much more aggressive than he did the first time we saw him in court, but when you go back, you realize he was just as aggressive back then, but now it's directed at us instead of Auchi.
In hindsight it's quite obvious because some introductions and even Naruhodo's personal view call Asogi a hot-blooded youth, not to mention Asogi's DLC case. DGS1's first case simply fools players into thinking he's a cool-head character/mentor. It's also funny to see such a character end up becoming a prosecutor.
@@PatManDX Yes. There are two DLC cases : Japan's and London's sides. There are fan translations videos of them on youtube. Apparently the cases can't be included in the Chronicle edition because of legality issue regarding the marketing in Japan.
Of all the major themes this game had, the “Your idols aren’t as perfect as you imagine them to be and are real people with flaws just like you” is the one I expected least
Everyone is talking abt how Asogi was always so merciless and intense, and how he had already accepted the assassination mission. But something in the first case stands out even more with his turn: He was willing to put every last part of the assassin exchange in jeopardy for Ryunosuke in 1-1. Even with the burning desire for revenge we see consume him in DGS2 being present in DGS1, he was still more than willing to throw it all away. He truly valued Ryunosuke more than his revenge. What excellent writing.
idk if it's ever mentionned that he knows that the first killer is an assassin sent by great britain or if he knew that Wilson was to be a target or something, but if he knew all about it, I think it shows even more that he had some massive balls of steal to basically send a middle finger to the government even though he accepted their deal.
The other way to interpret it is that he was so confident in his skills and so sure of Ryunosuke's innocence that the idea of failing hadn't even crossed his mind, which I feel is equally heartwarming
That's a good point. I never really saw Asogi as a villainous character. Barely an anti-hero. He just wanted revenge for his father and justice in an injustice system. Most of us here can relate to this day.
As I keep saying to people, with Kazuma and really all of DGS 2 I feel like Shu Takumi really tapped into something special he hasn't since Godot in AA3.
@@Gabo2oo it’s part of why I think the GAA collection is possibly the best story the series has told. There’s real impact on seeing this happen to a character you know, and it’s one of those moments that makes it clear they planned the two games as one grand story.
@@kraydel and how would a new player know that without extra knowledge? they wouldn't. if they figure it out from the beat, that's not a spoiler at that point it's just clever thinking.
@@TheUltimateRare why would a new player be listening to the tgaa: resolve soundtrack in the first place??? if they were listening to it as a playlist the song LITERALLY DIRECTLY BEFORE THIS ONE is called Kazuma Asogi - Great Return which spoils the fact that kazuma is alive anyway. and it would be pretty impossible to search for this song of their own accord prior to G2-4 because they WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT THIS SONG EXISTED PRIOR TO KAZUMA'S APPEARANCE AS A PROSECUTOR. i would understand if you were telling people to place spoiler tags if this was the video for Samurai of Destiny, a song that appears in TGAA: Adventures, but people who willingly go to osts for a game that they haven't played or haven't finished are just asking to get fucked over with spoilers
@@kraydel well yeah the video in question matters. but i doubt they would find that other video first. besides, music videos shouldn't have spoilers anyway unless the song itself is named a spoiler. Either way it would still be scummy to make it worse by trying to spoil.
Theme of wanting to keep the trial going forever lol Ryunosuke: the defendant wasn't the killer! No! The defendant orchestrated the assassin exchange! Ryunosuke: no, he didn't! No! The defendant is the Reaper of the Bailey! Ryunosuke: no! He isn't! Dx
I love how one of the first lines he has after we hear this theme is: "In truth, we've been looking at all this backwards." That's not a prosecution line, that a defense line. In the Ace Attorney series, it's always been the defense bringing new ways to view the case that completely shake its foundation and make previous assumptions null and void, while the prosecution is more likely to bring up new evidence or simply point out a glaring flaw in the defenses logic. But of course, Asougi would use defense tactics against us. *He studied law as a defense lawyer* Thus theme is more than just his prosecutors theme. It's his *Objection* theme.
I love how this song reuses the leitmotif in Asogi's original theme. Hits you with a real emotional one-two; you think "Oh cool! Asogi's back!" and then you realize he's your opponent and you think "Oh shit, Asogi's back."
When I found out that Kazuma was a prosecutor now, i was like "man wouldn't it be cool if he prosecuted the next trial? but why wouldn't Van Zieks prosecute the next trial? unless he was the defendant?" and then low and behold i was exactly right.
This song is the SINGLE GREATEST PROSECUTOR THEME of all time. The way they implement Kazuma's motif? The dark, foreboding, intense feeling as you face your best friend once more, but this time, as an enemy. Familiar, yet different. Just absolute shivers down the spine.
I think my favorite aspects of this are the instrumentation and the use of the professor’s motif. The former shows how van ziek’s tutelage affects his style and how he’s been influence by van zieks while the professor motif shows how he’s here to clear his fathers name and to show how he’s also connected to this case
If I had a nickel for each time a defense attorney died and came back as a prosecutor, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
One of the best re-interpretations of a character theme I have ever heard. What was once a reassuring, kindhearted chord is now a troubled, but fiercely determined and merciless one. You can just feel his inner turmoil by listening to this. Overall I consider this to be one of the best tracks in the already fantastic DGS soundtrack.
AGREED! The track alone is absolutely amazing, and really makes him a terrifying prosecutor. But the fact that its a perfect reinterpretation of his original theme, mixed with so many new elements yet still sounding familiar.. its perfect for Asogi
I love the fact that this is an. british version of him, since he is now a prosecutor of london, his once samurai-like theme is now a british royalty one
I love how after the final case, Asogi is still Asogi but in a less “rose tinted glasses” kind of view. He still laughs with his best friend, he trusts him with Karuma, and he encourages Susato to travel with Ryuu. But, it’s clear that he’s haunted by his inner demons of when he genuinely wanted to kill. The way they end the game off with a display of Asogi but for who he actually is makes it one of my favorite endings. Especially after we’re slapped in the face with the determined, ruthless, and callous nature of him. But, we’re taught throughout the game that there are many facets to him that are all still Asogi. The foreshadowing in the first case of who he is, of the mission he accepted, of the determination he harbored for his whole life. Asogi didn’t die in my opinion. He was right when he said that Ryuu changed. Because Ryuu became a formidable defense attorney. He was no longer the “replacement” for Asogi. Ryuu grew and stopped idolizing Asogi as the perfect student, best friend, and defense attorney. He’s able to see things in a different light, accept them, and work to find the truth. And, on the note of the piece itself, I love how you can hear bits and pieces of Kazuma’s previous themes at 0:47. This theme feels so strong and scarred in a way. It shows the turmoil Asogi has he’s been going through for his entire life. It sounds theatrical in a way to me. His story of who he was, how he ended up in London, his father, etc. As if the melancholic and dramatic tumultuous pain he’s held is making its way out and manifesting as something he needs to conquer.
Agreed. And I love that we never hear Kazuma’s original theme after this point in the game - he’s not who Ryuunosuke thought he was, and he never will be. At 1:13 you can hear a part of the Professor’s theme; deep within Kazuma, there’s a hint of a willingness to kill. Kazuma is fighting for the truth, but at the same time he’s also struggling against himself. Against the part of himself that would do exactly what Klint van Zieks did. The tip of his katana breaking off in Gregson’s trunk is a symbol of that one moment when darkness consumed him, a moment which will stay with him for the rest of his life. At the start of the game, Ryuunosuke stands terrified at Kazuma’s side, while Kazuma seems to be an infallible embodiment of righteousness. But by the end, he and Kazuma duel as equals in the courtroom - Ryuunosuke just as skilled as Kazuma, and Kazuma just as vulnerable as Ryuunosuke. This theme makes that all the more apparent as they stand opposite each other, dressed in opposite colors, destined for opposite sides of the ocean, but still stand together as equals… as friends.
Dammit I want to cry after reading this for some reason lol. It went beyond "great ace attorney", it was the greatest story I've ever played. Greatest game of my life.
Expertly summed up. His inner demons very much still haunt him to the point of nearly losing himself. I feel that's best represented in the chip that Karuma sustained when he nearly killed Gregson; Kazuma's very soul has been damaged by his own actions.
this is just brilliant. Asogi is a character that I am pretty sure we will never get something like in any other piece of media. the idea of a character you initally perceive as this some sort of self righteous saint, who would do nothing wrong, because you are looking from the eyes of the protagonist, his best friend. only to pop up later and do the exact same things he has been doing, only the rose tinted glasses are off now. you see how a bit flawed he is, his arrogance, his hotheadedness being used the wrong way, his persistence to uncover the truth. the reason I think it is an AA exclusive thing is that you got to face him, fight against him, without necessarily any betrayal happening. that's the beauty of Ace Attorney, you cn have two characters battle wits with each other as if they are mortal enemies, but they are just doing their jobs and can laugh and drink with each other after that. it is just brilliant how they did that, it is very realistic too cuz a lot of times in our lives we see some people with rose tinted glasses and refuse to see their flaws, and you refuse to believe there are some aspects about them you don't know considering you just met them, and also shows how perspective matters, cuz at first we found Asogi funny and charming when he was poking fun at Auchi and humilating him, but now we see Naruhodo being a bit hurt by how aggressive Asogi was against him.
The reveal that Kazuma was still alive was fantastic but I think the first time you hear this theme was an even better moment. Kazuma patiently waits for you to finish pressing Van Zieks, then raises his own objection, and points out lies and contradictions using the court record, just as he taught you to do and you’ve been doing for almost two whole games at this point. This theme kicks in and you think “sweet, a new objection theme” and then halfway through your argument getting pulverized his leitmotif kicks in just to remind this is Kazuma motherfucking Asogi you’re dealing with, your best friend who taught you everything you know AND survived for almost year as an amnesiac under Barok Van Ziek’s tutelage.
I agree, when it first plays is amazing. But actually, Barok never lied in that initial testimony. Kazuma merely thought he was because the truth didn't match up with what you'd expect in reality. Kazuma assumes Barok is lying but everything Barok said was true, ironically.
When the part from his original theme came thru I lost my shit I had to stop playing for a few minutes and just appreciate the OST like god DAMN I wasn’t ready
I dunno. I was honestly dreading the idea that Kazuma might still be alive from the first time we meet him in Van Zieks office because, if he did turn out to be alive, he'd turn out to be your enemy. And that's exactly what happened.
1:13 I just realized that this is the professor's leitmotif, and for that I fucking love this theme so much more now, it really lets you know that he's only here for one thing, to avenge his father.
doesn't matter. these guys in the comments ruined everything by spoiling new players who look up songs from this game, if they find this song too early, and read the comments... they get spoiled a huge plot point. The title and Desc isn't even a spoiler. so the comments are ruining everything LOL
The Revived Prosecutor has to be one of my favorite themes in the game. From a musical standpoint, it pretty much symbolizes Ryunosuke’s point of view from learning about Kazuma’s “revival”. It starts off with a very strong section, and from the instruments you can tell it is similar to van Zieks’ theme. First and foremost after meeting Kazuma as the masked apprentice, your initial impression of him is someone of the same status and aura as van Zieks; someone prestigious and someone who you shouldn’t get on your bad side. I feel like this shows how differently Ryunosuke sees Kazuma after the reveal. It shows how he still sees Kazuma as someone who’s “strong”, but a different kind of strong than Kazuma was before the SS Burya incident. Next is the very familiar melody of Kazuma’s original theme. It does a great job of making you (playing as Ryunosuke) grounded in the fact that this man (who we established as intimidating and wholly different in the first section) is still Kazuma, your best friend. He is the same person who risked his future to defend you in court, and risked being caught to bring you to London. However, this section’s sounds a bit different. In 0:54, the bass note is different than the original Samurai With A Mission. It adds a hint of terror to the original, and makes you feel that your idolized perception of Kazuma after his “death” has suddenly been corrupted upon meeting him again. I love it. Lastly is the sad and slightly calmer section. I love how they did this. I feel like even if Ryunosuke saw how much Kazuma changed into a prosecutor, it’s evident that Kazuma is a pained man. This is the section wherein it shows Kazuma’s vulnerability, and despite not getting used to Kazuma’s change, Ryunosuke still has to push through to help him see his troubles through to the end. After this section, the entire thing loops again. I also love how this last section lasts pretty short, and transitions back into the strong, intimidating first section. I think it symbolizes that despite the trauma and pain Kazuma faces especially in regards to the Professor case, he swiftly switches back to his normal side, as a reborn prosecutor, apprentice to the Reaper of the Bailey. sorry i needed to get this off my chest i love kazuma he is baby
Oh my god I love this???? You were able to put it into words I'm absolutely speechless. This song is so beautiful and symbolizes so many things. It nearly makes me cry anytime I listen to it because it's just so beautifulllll. Great job!!!! Also I 100% agree Kazuma is baby
Kazuma: I have 2 swords. You have none, Ryunosuke Ryunosuke: that's because I gave you Karuma back, you dunce Kazuma: I have 2 and you have none, Ryunosuke
I love how this feels like a twisted version of Asogi's initial theme. The bits and pieces of the original theme make their way into this one, providing this with such mixed emotions, accurate to how he's portrayed in the Great Ace Attorney 2. He's still Kazuma, he still cares for you, and he still wants justice, but now he's haunted by his inner demons, and he's afraid of the harm he could bring to others. And now he stands across from you in the Old Bailey, once your ally and now your opponent in court. It takes a lot to turn a theme of a once-compatriot into that of your new rival, and this pulls it off great.
We hear both the instruments from Japan and from Britain playing together. However, instead of being something like a blend, it feels like London was forced into him, seeing as London's instruments basically dominate most of the song (almost like a culture shock). Despite this, Asougi is still there in some capacity. He's still the man we loved, but corrupted partially by the journey he's been through. He's still the rugged, clever and determined man, but now it's amplified and pointed at us. Seeing from the plot alone, your analysis is spot on.
The beginning is slow, yet that must be Naruhudou coming to terms with that Asougi did not die from Nikomina's push, and that he became an amnesiac and turned into a prosecutor. It then goes to heavy tunes usually seen in a prosecutor's theme to make you realize how serious they are about getting a 'Guilty' verdict. But then you can also hear some of 'Samurai on a Mission', Asougi's original theme, signifying that the Asougi Naruhudou knew is still in there, but he likely won't be back.
eh i really wish you used spoiler tags so newbs wouldn't get a huge plot point completely spoiled just because they wanted to look up some music (which is a common thing to do, the sound track is insane)
@@TheUltimateRare The tune of the song itself is a spoiler, and you should be expecting this sort of stuff when searching up music to a game you haven't finished and then looking at the comments.
The balls of this trial. When Barok said he didn't notice the body because it was too dark, I presented candles, since they were right next to a victim. I got a penalty. Then Kazuma did the exact same, this played and he was correct...
Usually every ace attorney game has maybe one instance where this happens, you present evidence that makes sense but you actually have to wait until the next scene/after pressing/after examining the evidence. In this game it happened 10+ times, still one of my favourites but that was it's biggest flaw
@@ftl_ow Yeah, one of the game's flaws. This game also had the problem that was mocked heavily in Justice for All, in that in the third case's testimony you need to present evidence on the first statement after pressing the third.
The moment you feel amazed that Kazuma would want to help Ryunosuke to get into the court in the first trial of the game, even he wants so bad to go to Britain to find out the truth of the reaper. Chances that never know the truth about his father vs his best friend. He did choose his best friend.
This literally screams trouble. The beginning is slow and intimidating, then the music picks up and the heavy tunes make you realize that this is serious and tie the listener's thoughts to prosecutor van Zieks, and only then comes the 'best friend' part, hidden in the heavy tunes of baroque. The Japanese of his theme is hardly there - as if this is a new person.
Very true, however unlike most prosecutors he doesn't care for the perfect record, more so for truth like Klavier and Edgeworth. So some of the old him is still there.
@@muhammadsban2009 no, he might have a grudge against japanese, but he said it himself to naruhodou that his cravery for seeking truth was what intrigued him so he decided to take cases against naruhodou, even just small ones.
What makes this the best prosecutor theme ever is that we already knew Asogi for a long time before he became a prosecutor and heard several versions of his theme already so this intimidating version has even more impact in it's familiarity. I think it's the whole notes behind the main motif and that transition into the "British" part afterward that sell it for me. So much power
There's many details on this: his outfit, classical black student outfit to a bright white, the contrary just like passing from lawyer to prosecutor. Karma of course represents the Asougi houseline but remember that Kazuma has 2 swords as a prosecutor: he has found his own resolve even if it's different from what his ancestors expected (the loss of Karma also means his failure for his "mission") And of course this theme where we hardly recognise the Asougi we knew.
boy you guys love to spoil on music videos don't chu? xD the song title doesn't even have spoilers. you guys are just ruining it for new players who look up music.
@@user-jd4eb6xl7y You know, you have a very good point. but still avoiding spoilers should be our goal since this game(s) are very good and the story is quite intense. at times.....
DGS2 SPOILERS I see some people saying that when Asougi returns, it really feels like he’s not the same person and did “die” in some way, but I personally have quite a different analysis. To me everything he went through after the boat incident forced him to reveal a side of him he had always concealed. Remember that when we meet him in Case 1 of DGS, he has already accepted to go to Britain to assassinate someone ... And even though he didn’t want to carry out his mission he however genuinely was dead set on getting his revenge. Since the beginning he’s had this absolute, extreme side within him, it’s simply that we met him through Naruhodou’s eyes that was obviously blind to all of it and idealised him (and now that I’ve replayed the first case, there already was some foreshadowing). I find that quite interesting that the character that was supposed to motivate our main character during the first game (and thus us too) was deconstructed in such a way in the second game, as some fundamentally flawed and messed up individual with tons of issues. In DGS1, everything Naruhodou does, he does it for the memory of his late friend, to “replace” him, yet in DGS2 his duty is now to confront Asougi to correct him, but I think it also represents Naruhodou growing up, and stepping out of Asougi’s shadow, by first recognizing that Asougi is no god, shouldn’t be put on a pedestal, and needs to be saved from himself.
god you said it so well. its so interesting how after dying all the characters. made asougi into an ideal. he truly was this paragon of justice and doing what's right and when he returns and he's just FUCKED UP. its SO fucking jarring. god its so good
When people claim how different Asougi acts as a prosecutor, I can't help but disagree. Asougi is often very intense as a prosecutor and even a little vicious but *he acted like that in DGS Case 1 too* It's actually kind of clever because the reason no one noticed it was because it was all directed at Auchi who is the comedic punching bag of the AA series.
cti23gy YES I also think he’s a very interesting opponent and prosecutor, because he’s quite clever and honest, truly wants the truth, while not holding back and being quite ruthless and efficient. He never attacks the defense either (Klavier is the only one not to do so). He has the potential to be an excellent prosecutor when he doesn’t have, you know, a personal grudge against the defendant
Chlo H. HONESTLY YEAH. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN SUCH AN INTERESTING PROSECUTOR. AND I WISH WE COULD HAVE SEEN MORE OF HIM! OF THAT! i heard that dgs was originally intended to be a trilogy and that would honestly help SO MANY OF MY PROBLEMS WITH IT. looking back in it dgs2 was pretty rushed and i just. wish it could have gotten a third game. god i miss asougi.
h j Yep you’re right, it was supposed to be a trilogy. My guess is that the third case was supposed to be the end of the second game, so we would have had more time with the “masked disciple”, which would have been cool, and an entire third game with prosecutor Asougi (no idea what they could have done with Van Zieks tho). Yeah, some parts are rushed, but these parts personally don’t bother me and it’s still my favourite AA game. I can’t wait for Scarlet Study to finish their translation of the game
Kazuma's theme from GAA1 was so proud and graceful, like the theme of a hero everyone is counting on to save the world. And then there's this, which is the theme of a hero who vanished long ago and has just reappeared as the villain. Legit had chills the first time I heard this. And it first plays when he goes and attacks witness credibility in the exact same way we've been trained to do.
This is the best prosecutor theme in the series. The Great Revival is great, but this one has so much more emotion to it. And the moments it friggin' plays are PERFECT. It fit the atmosphere of that trial PERFECTLY whenever it was played. DGS and GGS2 proved one thing: Ace Attorney games could keep on being made without becoming stale. I would love to see another duology of DGS with Naruhodo in Japan reforming the legal system there.
I would prefer an Investigations game following Asougi and Gina back in London, the most endearing characters are all there. Also, that would mean more references to Sherlock Holmes characters, and I'm all for that.
What it proves is that to make surprising great Ace Attorney game, you have to separate yourself from characters people already love and create something completely new setting-wise.
i mean... replaying dgs1 i realized asougi had always been that way ahahah he really cares about the ones close to him and he's determined to fight for them... and that's it XD
I think it's one of many other parallelisms between him and Edgeworth. Van Zieks may have the looks, but Asougi has the personality and backstory After all, both of them were very sweet and kind people some time ago, when they were friends with the protagonists and wanted to become attorneys. Then after an incident they become cold and ruthless, distance themselves from their Naruhoudo and become prosecutors. Then after fighting Naruhoudo in court and solving the case that had been tormeting them, they finally reconnect with their old friend, even tho they still are kinda cold and serious compared to their old selves
And nope ! The best friend who defended you in the first trial and helped Ryunosuke to come to England was in fact a murderer all along and is now against you !
It was me, it happened long time ago back in July or August i guess? I was exercising and then go to my room, turn on the pc, click on youtube and try to find something to watch. Then i saw this video, i panic because the thumbnail is from the second game and i am only playing at the second case, I don’t want to be spoiled! You know what happened, my hand was sweaty after all that exercising and i clicked the video on accident. Literally scream cuz when i read “Revival” i knew it has to be Kazuma because he fricking died in the second case and he is a fricking lawyer, who else would turn into a prosecutor? And then my bro don’t want to be spoiled like me, I threaten him if he don’t do what i say i will spoiled him. He has to do what i told him for literally 2 or 3 weeks
I find it kinda funny that Kazuma Asogi was pretty much in the heart of a betrayal triangle. Stronghart betrays Gregson. Asogi betrays both Gregson and Jigoku. Jigoku betrays Asogi. Its even funnier when you realise Jigoku hasn't yet heard the news of Asogi's revival while everything was happening. That said its certainly lucky for Kazuma. Although he didnt originally intend to kill Gregson, he certainly intended on exposing all of the shenanigans behind the Professor and was already expecting to get into trouble when he decided to bring Ryunosuke.
I like how there's enough here for you to recognize the heroic nature of Asogi's initial theme but there's a sinister - almost warped - undertone to it. Making you think "Oh hey, it's our old pal Asogi...but something's off about him"
Everyone who understands music here knows that this piece is a MASTERPIECE with invoking emotion. The bits of his theme mixed in, the “antagonistic feel,” the english instrumentals… it’s truly so so good. Sorry Barok, but I think this theme takes the cake on being the best in TGAA
there are so many things i love about this theme. i love the flat 7 chord at 0:37 and 0:43. i love the threatening low quarter notes from his main theme. i love how the japanese instruments from his main theme were replaced with western instruments like the harpsichord. everything about this is so regal and powerful
after hearing this song for the first time, I had to just put my controller down and listen to it. easily my favourite song in all of Ace Attorney now, superb in every regard.
Really love this theme. When it first plays when Kazuma raises an objection, it nicely transports that "damn, he's good" thought. It's a shame this track is missing in the in-game auditorium, along with some other great ones. :(
The theme we heard was us thinking that Kazuma was the best human being in the world. But since Naruhodo/Us didn't know about Kazuma's true intentions, we had that epic theme. But this... This is his real theme. There is no denying it.
one of the best things you get from replaying this game is hearing the initial theme again in 1-1 and realizing "oh shit, that's not Asougi's theme. That's the "how Ryuunosuke sees Asougi" theme".
This theme shreds away the perfect person we knew to be Kazuma, and replaced him with a person whom, whilst just and a man of principles, possessed unsavoury motives founded by his origins and rightful rage. The writers didn't make Kazuma a villain. They made him a human.
I love how some bits of the theme have fragments not too dissimilar to Reaper of the Old bailey, as if the song itself was screaming that Barok and Kazuma are not only more similar than either would like to believe but that also that both of them are similarly tragic victims twisted by the machinations of a cruel single-minded monster, which made them blind to crucial truths. Plus...y'know a reflection of his stint as Van zieks disciple.
gosh I love the beginning of this song. Like, the first slow notes on strings. Really feels like the announcement of a grand revival. Also, whenever the original theme starts playing halfway through the song I always get a rush of emotion cuz of the comradery and loyalty I associate with the original tune but then there's so many epic instrumentals layered on top. /spoilers I'm only halfway through GAA 2-4 at the moment, but whenever this tune played, story aside, it really felt like I was working with Kazuma rather than against him. I think the game has conditioned me to feel warm feelings whenever I hear Kazuma's theme haha.
bulldozed through the rest of the game. Wow what an ending. Defo my fav ace attorney game. And loved to see how Ryunosuke's grown alongside all the supporting cast, I noticed he didn't stutter at all during in the last trial.
SPOILERS What I like about this theme is the darkness you can sense when compared to his original It's the theme of you're best friend who returned from the grave! Hurray! But...something's wrong with him, it's like something dark got a hold of him while he was trying to claw his way out of the afterlife. It's really a theme that makes you say "what has happened to you, my old friend?"
It’s initially a shock to the system how [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS] acts during cases 4/5, because to you it seems so out of character for them, but when you actually [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS], you see that they were always this way, but you weren’t the one opposed to them at the time. God, DGS2 is amazing
I honestly felt that after Kazuma regained his memories at the end of the third trial, he was testing Ryunosuke to see if he had developed the skill to walk on his own two feet, instead of relying on him or Susato all the time (That's how the first 3 trials of TGAA and first two of TGAA2 went, despite that being more of a recap, after all)
Me: Wow, it literally feels like I'm up against Edgeworth himself. This is gonna be good. Kazuma: Objection! *theme starts* Me: WHOA. The prosecution gets his own objection theme!?! That's awesome! Theme: Begins playing Kazuma's theme OH MY FUCKING GOD STOP BEING SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!
probably my favorite soundtrack of the entire ace attorney series, the way that they put some of the parts from kazuma's original theme "samurai with a mission" in there is just *mwah* perfection. too bad i probably can't just tell people to listen to this all willy nilly though, since even listening to this can a be a huge spoiler for someone who has played the first game but not the second game. they can probably just connect the dots from the title and the fact that kazuma's original theme is in there alone.

*[Spoilers]* So this is Kazuma's prosecutor theme and this is how I like to interpret it It begins with Kazuma's motif, giving you the hope that your dearest friend has now returned, standing in front of you, before abruptly changing into something drastically different, hinting an unknown side of him which you have yet to know. At 0:47, it returns to his motif again, but it's much more fierce and distressed in contrast to his gentle and tranquil personality. As if his characteristics have flipped due to his becoming a prosecutor,
@@TheUltimateRare now I’m a very anti spoiler person myself. Spoilers below: One of my favorite prosecutor Kazuma Asogi moments is actually when you chat with him at Barok office during case 4. Of course, you get some hilarious dialogue from Kazuma about how Barok rearranged his wine barrels once a week, which is not only funny but also great insight into Barok as an OCD perfectionist. But there's also some really great symbolic dialogue here too. To me, a great symbolism for Kazuma character arc is actually when you speak with Kazuma in Barok van Zieks office during case 4 investigation. If you click on the giant portrait of Klint in the background, Kazuma will claim that he has no idea who it is and never even noticed it was there, despite being Barok apprentice for 3 whole months. It really shows that Kazuma is just so blinded by revenge that he'll blatantly ignore anything that stands in the way of his determined path. He'll even ignore the obvious that's staring him in the face. Then, after Ryunosuke tells him to open his eyes, Kazuma does such and realized the truth: telling Barok that without the bias, he's starting to see him a new light. And now he realizes that it's Barok who has been living in delusions all these years regarding the Professor's identity. It's so brilliant to show that Kazuma HAS awakened and opened his eyes to the real truth now.
I wonder if the intent here was to show how similar Kazuma is to Barok during his pursuit of Revenge. The darker tones are very similar to the "Reaper of the Old Bailey" and i can't unhear it.
Whenever I listen to this, I imagine a scene like this: Ryunosuke goes to talk to Kazuma about him prosecuting Van Zieks’ trial, however in this scenario, Kazuma doesn’t want ryunosuke to defend Barok because he wants a sure fire conviction of him. Kazuma is talking to Ryunosuke with his eyes looking out over stormy London through the window of Barok’s office. Ryunosuke tells him that he’s going to defend Barok. This theme starts, they converse for a bit, Kazuma scolding Ryunosuke about how Barok sent people to their death as the reaper. Ryunosuke tries to explain that Barok had no part in those deaths but Kazuma isn’t listening. He then raises his voice: Kazuma: “that man sent my father to death, an innocent man” Ryunosuke: “how could you possibly know your father was innocent” Kazuma, having already talked to Gregson about the forged evidence, begins to speak but holds his tongue. He begins to walk towards the door, Ryunosuke: Kazuma… Kazuma! Ryunosuke walks after him, we see his feet walking and then suddenly they stop. The sound of thunder lights up the dimly lit room for a split second. The camera pans up. Kazuma has drawn Karuma on Ryunosuke but still faces the door. At this moment, the theme hits 0:46, Kazuma’s old theme, but it’s different. It’s raw, it’s emotional, it’s angry. Kazuma: “this was my purpose ryunosuke…this is why I needed to come to Britain.” The theme hits 0:58, Kazuma turns his head and a tear runs down his cheek. Kazuma: “Van Zieks showed no mercy when he sent my father to die. I will give him exactly what he gave my father. And if you’re intent on defending him, I will show you no mercy either” Kazuma sheaths Karuma and walks out the door. Thunder strikes again in the room, shedding light on ryunosuke’s face, but also on the painting of Klint Van Zieks in the back, as the theme fades out. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Stronghart: do you have any argument, counsel? Ryunosuke: no, sir. I've made my point. Kazuma: I have no arguments! Only that the defendant is the Reaper of the Bailey!!

Everyone is talking abt how Asogi was always so merciless and intense, and how he had already accepted the assassination mission. But something in the first case stands out even more with his turn:
He was willing to put every last part of the assassin exchange in jeopardy for Ryunosuke in 1-1.
Bro I'm gonna cry, this is all too bittersweet wth 😭

I love how one of the first lines he has after we hear this theme is:

That's not a prosecution line, that a defense line.
*He studied law as a defense lawyer*

I think my favorite aspects of this are the instrumentation and the use of the professor’s motif.
But the fact that its a perfect reinterpretation of his original theme, mixed with so many new elements yet still sounding familiar.. its perfect for Asogi
seconded!
I am actually crying right now. This game is so beautiful. 😭
Very well said.
Asogi is a character that I am pretty sure we will never get something like in any other piece of media.
the idea of a character you initally perceive as this some sort of self righteous saint, who would do nothing wrong, because you are looking from the eyes of the protagonist, his best friend. only to pop up later and do the exact same things he has been doing, only the rose tinted glasses are off now. you see how a bit flawed he is, his arrogance, his hotheadedness being used the wrong way, his persistence to uncover the truth.
the reason I think it is an AA exclusive thing is that you got to face him, fight against him, without necessarily any betrayal happening. that's the beauty of Ace Attorney, you cn have two characters battle wits with each other as if they are mortal enemies, but they are just doing their jobs and can laugh and drink with each other after that.
it is just brilliant how they did that, it is very realistic too cuz a lot of times in our lives we see some people with rose tinted glasses and refuse to see their flaws, and you refuse to believe there are some aspects about them you don't know considering you just met them, and also shows how perspective matters, cuz at first we found Asogi funny and charming when he was poking fun at Auchi and humilating him, but now we see Naruhodo being a bit hurt by how aggressive Asogi was against him.
i didnt even play the game but i can already feel the emotional trauma from this song alone.

There actually is a prosecutor in this game who is a clear Godot analogue, but it's not this guy.
Think about it.

Kazuma: I have 2 and you have none, Ryunosuke
After this realisation, Does Nikomina get out of jail? If so I’m happy about that

The balls of this trial.
When Barok said he didn't notice the body because it was too dark, I presented candles, since they were right next to a victim.
I got a penalty.
Then Kazuma did the exact same, this played and he was correct...
Well ace attorney always had and always will have the same fault. Sometimes you just gotta wait for the script.
This game also had the problem that was mocked heavily in Justice for All, in that in the third case's testimony you need to present evidence on the first statement after pressing the third.
yeah both contrdiction you could have easily did yourself. but the game wanted to show you who you are dealing with.
@@xela4183 thats more a case of " you have the info now you can point it out." situation. alot of fan games use this.
Barok didn't care about a perfect win record though
I’d say he cares more about his revenge than the truth, until later on in the trial.
@@muhammadsban2009 no, he might have a grudge against japanese, but he said it himself to naruhodou that his cravery for seeking truth was what intrigued him so he decided to take cases against naruhodou, even just small ones.
This really intimidated me the first time it played
Ever noticed that Kazuma in the case 4 is way ahead of you but by the time of case 5 you're the one cornering him.
it's a nice chracter moment.
And he gets more and more frantic
Probably because it was his plan all along was to pin Van Zieks for Gregson’s murder and after that failed he probably had to improvise
Dude really was different when prosecuting you can tell he used a lot of a defence attorney's method and was very formidable
thank you for not using his name. don't be part of the spoiler problem ya know? :D
@@TheUltimateRare its obvious but somehow people don't want to admit it
@@TheUltimateRareWhy would you look at the comment in a OST from a game you are currently playing ?
What makes this the best prosecutor theme ever is that we already knew Asogi for a long time before he became a prosecutor and heard several versions of his theme already so this intimidating version has even more impact in it's familiarity. I think it's the whole notes behind the main motif and that transition into the "British" part afterward that sell it for me. So much power
Samurai with a Mission: Are you familiar with a technique known as Fusion?
Reaper of the Old Bailey: ...Go on.
I think it's more of a fusion of Samurai with a Mission with The Living Phantom, to be honest.
There's many details on this: his outfit, classical black student outfit to a bright white, the contrary just like passing from lawyer to prosecutor.
Karma of course represents the Asougi houseline but remember that Kazuma has 2 swords as a prosecutor: he has found his own resolve even if it's different from what his ancestors expected (the loss of Karma also means his failure for his "mission")
And of course this theme where we hardly recognise the Asougi we knew.
boy you guys love to spoil on music videos don't chu? xD the song title doesn't even have spoilers. you guys are just ruining it for new players who look up music.
@@TheUltimateRare But why would you look at the comments of a game you haven't played yet?
@@user-jd4eb6xl7y You know, you have a very good point. but still avoiding spoilers should be our goal since this game(s) are very good and the story is quite intense. at times.....
@@TheUltimateRare completely your fault for looking at the comments on a song that is pivotal to the biggest spoiler between both games, lol
@@TheUltimateRare If you get like a minute into the song you literally hear Asougi’s theme
DGS2 SPOILERS
I see some people saying that when Asougi returns, it really feels like he’s not the same person and did “die” in some way, but I personally have quite a different analysis.
Asougi is often very intense as a prosecutor and even a little vicious but *he acted like that in DGS Case 1 too*
It's actually kind of clever because the reason no one noticed it was because it was all directed at Auchi who is the comedic punching bag of the AA series.
cti23gy YES I also think he’s a very interesting opponent and prosecutor, because he’s quite clever and honest, truly wants the truth, while not holding back and being quite ruthless and efficient.
I would love that. Japan certainly had its shadows in the early 20th century, I would love to see Ryunosuke take it on.
What it proves is that to make surprising great Ace Attorney game, you have to separate yourself from characters people already love and create something completely new setting-wise.
I was shocked at how merciless Asougi was as a prosecutor, DGS1 completely fooled me into thinking he had pure and just motives
It shows how Von Karma in the future came to be.
i mean... replaying dgs1 i realized asougi had always been that way ahahah he really cares about the ones close to him and he's determined to fight for them... and that's it XD
I think it's one of many other parallelisms between him and Edgeworth. Van Zieks may have the looks, but Asougi has the personality and backstory
After all, both of them were very sweet and kind people some time ago, when they were friends with the protagonists and wanted to become attorneys.
He is driven by rage so ofc he is
And nope ! The best friend who defended you in the first trial and helped Ryunosuke to come to England was in fact a murderer all along and is now against you !
Imagine accidentally clicking on this song without having played the second game. There has to at least been one person right
Howdy
@@jaretframe Oh no. Don't tell me I actually predicted what happened
I dont have a switch, so neither for me
this happen when i was listening to gregson's theme.
I??????????? ASOUGI YOU *WHAT*
this song PICKED ME UP AND YEETED ME BY SURPRISE
I’ve listened to this song so many times I’ve started humming along with the god dang triangle dings.
Kazuma: you should be an attorney
Also Kazuma: beats down Ryunosuke every time
I like how there's enough here for you to recognize the heroic nature of Asogi's initial theme but there's a sinister - almost warped - undertone to it.
This is a really twisted version of the theme from the first game, if you pay attention to the melody
Yes, for me this one is more fierce and aggressive(?) And it matches him at the 2nd series.
I can also here the Phantom theme as well representing his father
there are so many things i love about this theme. i love the flat 7 chord at 0:37 and 0:43. i love the threatening low quarter notes from his main theme. i love how the japanese instruments from his main theme were replaced with western instruments like the harpsichord. everything about this is so regal and powerful
You know you're in deep shit when the prosecutor's theme feels like an objection theme
you thought he died
and he kinda did
Millivanillia Lose but it’s true
same. I don't think I'm seeing the same person, even though it's him.
It's as if he only spiritually died and reborn.
I don’t think his knockout changed him as a person he was always like this it’s only in the second game where we actually see his true self
He knew from the beginning he was going to the UK to kill Gregson, even though he didn't do it. This is just his true form.
after hearing this song for the first time, I had to just put my controller down and listen to it. easily my favourite song in all of Ace Attorney now, superb in every regard.
Great way to put it
one of the best things you get from replaying this game is hearing the initial theme again in 1-1 and realizing "oh shit, that's not Asougi's theme.
/spoilers
I'm only halfway through GAA 2-4 at the moment, but whenever this tune played, story aside, it really felt like I was working with Kazuma rather than against him.
SPOILERS
What I like about this theme is the darkness you can sense when compared to his original
It's the theme of you're best friend who returned from the grave! Hurray! But...something's wrong with him, it's like something dark got a hold of him while he was trying to claw his way out of the afterlife.
It's really a theme that makes you say "what has happened to you, my old friend?"
If you hear this theme and then the original 'samurai on a mission', even if you didn't play TGAAC you'll still get huge nostalgia... and weep
*theme starts*
Me: WHOA. The prosecution gets his own objection theme!?! That's awesome!
Theme: Begins playing Kazuma's theme
OH MY FUCKING GOD STOP BEING SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!
the defendant is edgeworth as is the presecutor. they knew what they were doing.
Damn, the professor theme leit motifs there... I love dgs2's ost so much
Peak prosecution and defense
probably my favorite soundtrack of the entire ace attorney series, the way that they put some of the parts from kazuma's original theme "samurai with a mission" in there is just *mwah* perfection.
too bad i probably can't just tell people to listen to this all willy nilly though, since even listening to this can a be a huge spoiler for someone who has played the first game but not the second game. they can probably just connect the dots from the title and the fact that kazuma's original theme is in there alone.
When i heard the leitmotif for the first time i had to pace around for a minute because damn
ANGST AND FEELS this screams
me hearing kazumas theme in TGAA 1: aww this is great!
me hearing his theme in TGAA 2: *GOD DAMN IT*
I have to say, I love the little Professor leitmotif in this song. Really pulls the song together, in context.
you don't know how much I love this track
this theme screams death and destruction in the most polite way possible. it’s like his original theme’s floating in a fish tank belly up.
I didn't play the second but that melody sounds... Familiar...
Play it, there's subbed gameplay on RUclips
I second Domyeet, this game is truly worth it. There is a subbed game play on RUclips and if you like let’s players and commentary I advise Taisa’s channel, she managed to play it with a translation and she basically voices it while she plays (she’s pretty good too)

@@ChloHB ikr! i meant like, not to give spoiler or anything but dgs2 is like the root of the whole story so if they dont play it they are missing big things of it.. still kinda sad about the story but its worth it!

So this is Kazuma's prosecutor theme and this is how I like to interpret it
It begins with Kazuma's motif, giving you the hope that your dearest friend has now returned, standing in front of you, before abruptly changing into something drastically different, hinting an unknown side of him which you have yet to know.
At 0:47, it returns to his motif again, but it's much more fierce and distressed in contrast to his gentle and tranquil personality. As if his characteristics have flipped due to his becoming a prosecutor,
"Oh yeah, I can definitely not tell by the theme who it is! NO WAY I can guess it!"
New players might not pick up on it. so the comments shouldn't be spoiling either.
@@TheUltimateRare now I’m a very anti spoiler person myself. I don’t think the experience should be ruined for people except there’s a certain point where it’s not the responsibility of others to prevent them from seeing spoilers. You genuinely don't wanna know how many times I've listened to this

This music is so catchy and so well-composed I can listen to it without getting tired or bored.
How did they manage to turn the most hopeful, encouraging theme into a feeling of dread
Spoilers below:
One of my favorite prosecutor Kazuma Asogi moments is actually when you chat with him at Barok office during case 4.
The theme of "oh, my friend's actually not really as great as I remember him being"
Whenever I listen to this, I imagine a scene like this:
Ryunosuke goes to talk to Kazuma about him prosecuting Van Zieks’ trial, however in this scenario, Kazuma doesn’t want ryunosuke to defend Barok because he wants a sure fire conviction of him.
He then raises his voice:
Kazuma: “that man sent my father to death, an innocent man”
Ryunosuke: “how could you possibly know your father was innocent”
Kazuma, having already talked to Gregson about the forged evidence, begins to speak but holds his tongue. He begins to walk towards the door,
Ryunosuke: Kazuma… Kazuma!
Kazuma: “this was my purpose ryunosuke…this is why I needed to come to Britain.”
The theme hits 0:58, Kazuma turns his head and a tear runs down his cheek.
Kazuma: “Van Zieks showed no mercy when he sent my father to die. I will give him exactly what he gave my father. And if you’re intent on defending him, I will show you no mercy either”
Kazuma sheaths Karuma and walks out the door. Thunder strikes again in the room, shedding light on ryunosuke’s face, but also on the painting of Klint Van Zieks in the back, as the theme fades out.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
Excellent
Just throw me a bone every once and a while man I’m trying my best!
Basically the theme of "I don't have any arguments but VAN ZIEKS IS THE REAPER"
Stronghart: do you have any argument, counsel?
Ryunosuke: no, sir. I've made my point.
Kazuma: I have no arguments! Only that the defendant is the Reaper of the Bailey!!
The first thing I thought when I heard this song in game was "Oh shit he's actually back"
great ace attonery 2 spoilers
i love how after you presss all of ziek's statements kazuma just spends the next 2 minutes useing your own tatics against you.
it truly is what would happen if a defense attonrey became a prosecutor.
Despite this, Kazuma first and foremost acts like a Defense Attorney by defending his late father’s honor. It’s honestly great.
Best Ace Attorney track of all time. Filled with emotion.
By the title, I was sure this was going to be for Van Zeiks, but I guess it's for a certain masked man who's identity is probably obvious from the song anyway
