A bandmate & friend suggested we should build a better mandolin case for me, so we went to his father-in-law’s place and essentially watched his father-in-law build the box. We did it off-rectangular because I’d miscalculated the needed amount of plywood to bring. It was built as a closed box with nifty dowel corner joints, then bandsawed open. Fortified with Bondo all over, the exterior sprayed black and lined with foam rubber and fake fur. Leather dog collar made a great handle. It’s held up for 40+ years, although that mandolin has been retired for a long time and my present one doesn’t really fit in it. I’ll never have a better case.
Great stuff Chris and some useful general tips. I have a couple of those wheeled fabric cutters and really recommend. Razor sharp and accurate with a lot of control, especially with curves. They also work really well with veneers, softer woods and plastics.

But, like yours, we didn’t provide a storage nook. The only flaw.
